  1. I am a bit baffled as to why everyone here thinks that the Germans are doomed. Gus kills when he has to but is businesslike about it. Killing off a gang of workers would be bad business...either they were trustworthy enough to hire in the first place (after a ton of vetting by Gus and/or Mike) or a crew that could be trusted would've been found. If there is a network of people prepared to do such work--and Mike didn't find Werner in a phone book--then there also has to be MUTUAL trust that the workers will STFU about the job in exchange for not being sent to Belieze once the job was done. Gus can't afford to get a name for being an unreliable employer.

  2. Second week in a row that the divine Liris was made to look upholstered rather than dressed. She still worked to sell it but that top was hideous. Brandon's commitment to the flamingo fabric is admirable from an artistic standpoint but it really limits his collection. Outdoor fabric is just NOT going to drape no matter what you do to it, which is why the look with the buttery leather top worked so much better than the all-flamingo look.

I know all about this.  My adult son has a serious mental illness. My son had a very promising and productive future until he got sick at 18.  When your child has a serious mental illness, you suffer alone, trying to navigate an unfamiliar and often hostile and grossly underfunded mental health system trying to get services and treatment. When your child is in a psychiatric hospital, you keep it a secret because of stigma. No one sends flowers or cards. There are no well wishes.  Fortunately, I have found support through the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  Maybe your friends can get some answers and support through NAMI too.

So sorry that this is in your life. It must feel very lonely and I am glad that you have found support. NAMI is a terrific organization, and I would not hesitate to suggest it if my friends were actually looking for help. They are not. Their attitude is that the daughter-in-law 'left' the family and that's it. Their son,  however, is still in touch with his sick wife and is trying deparately to get help for her so I concentrate on supporting him.

This is way off topic so: Brandon. Straps. Swatch. Corset. Millennial pink. Tim Gunn Save. Cup o Noodles.

  4. I am now rooting for Anaya. At the beginning I thought that her self-imposed modesty standard would sink her but she has surprised me. She also seems kind. And, based on the lame-ass 'boxing boot camp' that was shoehorned into last night's ep, she kicks ass.

  5. Such a stumble for Kentaro. Liris summed it up in her mirror TH: Pocahontas about to play football. With different styling it could have been okay. With that styling, SO appropriative. Cuddly Kentaro dodged a bullet because Michael's was so much worse. We seem to be headed for Brandon/Kentaro/Anaya in the finals, no? The winning look was very cool in the transformation of materials, especially in that meager time frame, however the hard hat bugged me. How much cooler if she had made the hard hat into a purse.

While I think this is often true - it's no accident that Yolanda managed to squeeze out three children in her short marriage - I've read that Georgina's parents are billionaires.  I believe Georgina that she didn't know Weinstein was assaulting women, but she had to know he was a cheating dog.  Some women are just attracted to powerful men, even when they themselves come from a very affluent world, and said man is a dog to women.  I wonder if Weinstein reminds her of her father.  We often marry our fathers even if our fathers are alcoholics, cheaters, abusive, etc.

People get married for all sorts of reasons. It isn't always a love match. That said, couples can have an understanding: Fool around if you must but don't embarrass me. Ol' Harv couldn't possibly be more of an embarrassment right now.

Back to this ep: I didn't love Kentaro's design this week but I love him. I want him in the finals just because he is a damn delight. If Brandon doesn't make it to the finals (and I think he is on the bubble), I would love seeing him come back to assist his brother during the inevitable Fashion Week surprise challenge.

I think many of us just learned this. One always wonders when a lovely young lady marries an old toad. Several examples come to mind.

Having heard the audio tape of Noted Toad Weinstein pressuring a young model to come into his hotel room, I shudder to imagine his marriage proposal to Georgina Chapman.

Sure - but does *sheer* fabric really protect that much? It seems odd to me.

Depends on what fabric was used. I give Michael props for caring about the comfort of his model. His concern meant that he had to make an entire second piece during a very tight time frame.

I think that you are reacting to the fact that nearly nekkid images of this model were aired. That isn't on Michael. Of necessity, models are nude or nearly so all the time in the workroom. The decision to film and air the model in a transparent bodysuit (uncensored) was made by the producers, not the designer.

  9. As honorary Bubbe to a five year old girl, I have to admit that Shopkins are a pretty good prompt for an avant garde challenge. In my opinion, Anaya came closest to avant garde. The pink was a little too on-the-nose and the construction looked rough, but that was likely related to the lunacy of this being a one-day challenge. It certainly helped that The Divine Liris sold the hell out of it on the runway. The styling was perfection, too. In fact, with luxe fabrics and impeccable finish, something like this look would not be out of place on a McQueen runway.

I wish they would always allow two days for the avant garde challenge. Most of them did prettt well for having one day, but I would have loved to see how much more they might have accomplished.

Why did Meisha (?)(Michael's model) have to wear a sheer nipple suit under her melting disco ball and more specifically, why was it shown to the TV audience? She didn't seem uncomfortable but I sure hope Harvey Weinstein wasn't watching.

I believe that the under suit thing was for the model's comfort. Sequined fabric can be hella scratchy and it would be easier to make a separate bodysuit than to line the jumpsuit.

I do think that Michael's design would be easier to transition to doll sized couture, but the pink cupcake dress was both more avant garde and VERY Shopkins-adjacent. Oh, Lord, how I wish I didn't know that last bit!

Zac really appeared to honk Michael's model during the close up examination. I know that he was examining the stuffed swirly thing, but man! Hubby and I looked at each other and simultaneously said 'Zaaaaac!' in a chiding tone.

    Ugh.  Weinstein.  Barf.

  11. This show has gone from being compelling to annoyingly predictable. The multiple stabs at various careers bugs the crap out of me...I'm an actress! I'm a shoe designer! I'm a playwright! I'm a caftan designer! I'm a photographer! I'm a video artist! I'm a stand-up comic! It's like they are playing aspirational Mad Libs. They have just enough clout (or the production company does) to be able to indulge their fantasies and then move on. This, plus the manufactured inter-Shah drama = yawn.

  12. This is overly simplistic and reductive (and not original but I can't recall where I first read it):

A church is difficult to join (various rites, rituals & learnings to be fully accepted) and easy to leave (you might be asked why you have stopped attending but no one is going to stalk you or punish you for doing so).

A cult is easy to join and difficult to leave.

If CoS is so stinking insistent on being thought of as a church, see above.

I hope that Rinder is healing through the process of interacting with the people that he has harmed. He and Leah both appear to own their former CoS related assholishness. I like him.
