  1. Finished Armor of Light by Ken Follett a few weeks ago. Big meh. Loved the whole original Kingsbridge Series. Then came the prequels. The Morning and the Evening was not bad. Armor of Light was a slog to get through. The beginning chapters were the best part.

  2. Getting TC Dallas vibes with this one. Didn't they have to skewer their protein in the snow or something ridiculous like that? I remember Paul's snow scenes specifically. Great chef!

It may be wise to study up on outdoor/camping cooking with fire if you're chosen as a TC contestant. You never know.

Upside cake. Yum! LeAnn's dish looks very LeAnn-ish! She's gonna be tough to beat.

    Brother with the Caraway. Nice!

I think it was Gail, but I do know what was said was the more challenges we throw at them, the better they cook.  Yikes.  Next thing we know, they're going to have to hunt their own protein with a Nerf gun.  Blindfolded.  With one hand tied behind their backs, and one leg bound to another contestant.

Definitely sounds like a Gail comment. Padma makes the most irreverent comments when it comes to food and cooking.

I want that grilled cheese Caesar salad like whoa. Tanya’s Mac & cheese, too. I appreciated the touch that the lil’ judges were children of chefs.

I thought Tanya's Mac & cheese, though it looked scrum, would be too simple and literal for TC judges in past seasons. But then the spaghetti and meatball guy wasn't literal enough. Maybe because they were cooking for kiddos? It seemed off to me but again, my last TC viewing was Dallas.

Omg it's LeAnn from S1. She's pregnant? She was 29 in S1. I was 21. Oh, she just said its been 12 years. This is an older season. Yay for her! And she's in the competition! Is this to give her a win? I will stand by Harold winning S1 all day long.

Anyway, he said that Dodi had an American accent but with Egyptian vowel inflections.

I really want to hear someone speak like this. It sounds intriguing to me. If only Chat GPT had audio.

Mohammed is the ultimate royals fan, a wannabe, who bought the place in Paris because Edward lived there.

He's not the first rich guy who wanted to buy his way into the aristocracy.  Who can blame him for trying, after all other had done it and he had been able to buy just about anything with his money.

From the start of the series, it was clear that the Royals benefitted from modern celebrity, from the first overseas trips that Elizabeth took shortly after she was coronated, to the chase that led to the crash in the tunnel.

Diana was going to be popular because of whom she married and what she married into.  She was personable on her international trips and praised for hugging that AIDS orphan.

But did most of the people remember her trips by the time she died?  Did her immense popularity also have to do with how she was perceived to have been mistreated?

The popularity of the RF probably kept the govt money coming, keeping at bay any critics of the English monarchy.  Hell Diana alone probably kept Australia in the fold, at least according to the show.

This is curious. He is of Middle Eastern decent and they also have Royal families.

I get it since I'm American and read everything I can about English history from Henry I to Richard III (where the legitimate royal line ends). It's seriously entertaining as heck.

  5. Sorry but the scenes of Charles weeping? I lol'd. He treated her like garbage when she was alive. I don't care what the state paid BBC claims, I don't buy it for a second.

Why was Charles allowed to throw a party for Camilla and Diana not allowed to see another man, like Dodi? The royals are hypocrites. Including the Queen.

Was just talking to somebody about this. Apparently the actor didn't have anything to go on because Dodi was very private. He had like a 35 second clip of him talking and went from that.

So I don't know if for some reason he had an American accent or maybe he tried to have one in the US and it worked in that tiny clip? Because it seems like surely he should have had an English accent? Why would his father the anglophile raise him in the US?

I don't know. But it's an odd choice for an actor if he was raised in England. Definitely an American accent. And not regional, just basic.

  7. Did Dodi grow up in America? I'm asking because of the actor's accent. I was young when this all happened so I don't know a lot of details.

The so called "phone call" between Dodi and his father near the end was odd? It sounded like he was speaking to a lover, not a father. Not necessary at all.

I read a comment earlier about Dodi's father being portrayed as a villain due to racism. Racist against an American, which is what I consider Dodi since he speaks like me? OK, sure. However, I thought this deviated from the usual "Diana's death was a setup by the Royal family" story. IMHO, it still makes sense.

  9. I'm starting this season out of curiosity but haven't fully watched since season 4. I cannot get behind this show choosing a man far too handsome to portray Charles. And the actor isn't that handsome. But Charles is yuck.

  10. Just starting the third episode and it's not exactly bad but I find it slow. Just my opinion but, I can't get past the Cisco character's looks. He's not handsome, his hair is awful and I can't for the life of me believe the Lorna character would be with him much less marry him. Sorry but not realistic.

Just binged it here in the US. Wow! It was really a great show. Can't wait for the movie. Guess we will have a Tommy sons battle. Really missed Polly but they did a proper send off and Ava stepped into her shoes pretty well.

Remind me who Finn is...another brother or a nephew? And what did he do wrong? He let slip the plans to off the fascist, right? What did Billy do?

Did we watch the same show? I struggled with S6. The absence of Aunt Pol was devastating to the family dynamic which made this show what it once was. Arthur was MIA due to opium addiction for 5 of 6 episodes, no Curly, only a sprinkling of Ada, no Finn, Michael locked away. The first 2 episodes were intriguing but then all the time wasted on Ruby's death and the Gypsy curse felt like filler. I had no investment in Ruby as a character. Natasha O'Keefe gave a brilliant, moving performance as Lizzie but otherwise...

The Boston baddie is a letdown and Mosley's despicable fiance was only fun in the scene with Ada. Haven't seen episode 6 but I'm sure it's setup for the alleged movie coming out in the next 10 years.

I've loved PB since it first appeared on Netflix but man did Helen McRory's death kill this show. Either that or it's way past time for it to end. I'd watch anything with Cillian Murphy. As usual, his performance was worth any time I've invested.

  12. I love Mrs. Wheeler. Season 4 Vol. 1 hair choices aside, (though I personally love it), she is trying. And yeah, her being tempted by Billy in the past was sus but can you really blame her for looking with a husband like Mr. Wheeler? Billy was a jerk but he was nice to look at.

  13. Has anyone else noticed that Dustin's mom is played by the lady who was Rose's mom in Mindhunter season 1? The one that cried all the time and had the son that cried and was involved in the murder of his "fiance"? Just me? Lol. I heard her say "Are you lying to the police, Dusty?" In a whiny tone and bam! I recognized her straight away. Maybe I've watched Mindhunter a few too many times.

I like Eddie though he's super charismatic to be thought of as a pariah at school even if he's been held back. The jock teens are so out of character, imo, that I'm tempted to fast forward through all their drama. Maybe their behavior was typical for basketball players in the 80s?

I wish they'd given Will and Jonathan more to do. Will's actor has been a standout of the younger group and his facial expressions during the shootout showdown at Joyce's reminded me how good he was. Such a waste. Can't stand the Russian shenanigans any longer. The lab/Papa stuff is getting drawn out too.

On WWHL he chose Kate over Francesca, and said we haven’t seen the drama yet in this season.

So, in your mind, it all comes down to Francesca vs. Kate? Kate most likely chose not to return. It's not a competition. Wow. OMG Captain Lee complimented Francesca! And Francesca isn't Kate!!

FFS, these boards used to be entertaining too.

I thought it was kind of refreshing! Maybe 'cause I'm old, and getting wasted and staying up until 3 in the morning holds very little appeal. Though TBH I didn't do the 3 am stuff much even when I was young.

ITA. I guess I'm getting old lol. And they are working. I'm not a huge Kate fan which will be a unpopular opinion on this board. I don't dislike Kate but I didn't think she made the show in past seasons or anything. I was ready for a new chief stew, tbh. I think Kate was ready for something new too.

Not sure how I feel about the new chief stew yet. I don't watch BDM so I can't compare to Hannah. But I won't discount her for crying. Some are more emotional than others. Doesn't necessarily mean they are less competent.

Shane is annoying. The chef is just, I don't know, odd maybe? I feel like she's been focused on less than chefs in past seasons so far.

I was so puzzled about the ties to Cruise to Nowhere I could barely focus on All In. Why the fuck did they change the characters names? Even if they couldn’t get the actors back to play them, use the same names if you want to do a follow up. Beyond weird - another weird thing from season 8.

I'm puzzled too. I've seen Cruise to Nowhere quite a few times and when I went back to watch All In after reading here, I didn't even recognize it as the same actor.

I like those too and I have to add Tomorrow. Merrit Wever as Hannah was beyond terrific. Adding some memorable last words: "Stones around my neck! Stones around my neck!" and "Egg cup! Egg cup!"

Yes, I liked Tomorrow, as well! I actually loved the twist of the soap opera. And funny you mention Merritt Weaver because she made such an impression on me (especially that scene at the end of the episode), that I immediately recognized her on Nurse Jackie. It's one of the first I looked for when I got Peacock. She is super talented.

Lol, Egg Cup! That was a decent episode too. Too bad her real parents both turned out to be horrible people.

As a side note, CI has a lot of actor crossover with The Sopranos, Falucci included.

I was bummed that Peacock Original Recipe L&O starts at season 13. So no Mike Logan, no Ben, no Jill Hennessy, etc. I was looking for an episode I saw in college on reruns. It was about a child dying in the hospital after the mom refused treatment because of her religion. The State prosecuted. I want to say Ben was the lawyer and Logan and Brisco were the law duo. Not nearly as familiar with original L&O as with CI. Anyway, I can't imagine why NBC doesn't have rights to old L&O.

Oxygen has gone from S8 to S1. "One" is about to end with "Art" to begin next, then "Smothered". I still love Bobby's line to creepy Sylvia Moon at the end as she was crying for sympathy and Goren just says, "Welcome to the human race!"

Still amazes me - as I did not know for some time - that the same actress to play Sylvia Moon (Elizabeth Marvel) would play Jenny Hendry/Wendy LeBlanc in "Prisoner" from S5 (which just aired again recently). As said, that episode and "Homo Homini Lupus" are the only two episodes of the franchise where there was no murder!

(Which, I have read, is more in line with the real Major Case, which deals with art thefts and such. At least "Art" was in the ballpark!  🙂  But I imagine the show could not sustain no murders for 10 seasons, soooo...)

I didn't realize this until I read your post in the old forum! She looked so "harsh in "Art". Maybe it was the hair? Sorry I can't think of a term other than "harsh" to describe it.

Sorry for the continuous posts. I'm just so happy to be with others that love CI like me. Well, at least the Eames & Goren CI 😉

I'm not hard core, but I do think there is more than just a working relationship. A strong friendship, at the very least. But I'm a romantic at heart. If they are just friends? Great. But I do think - with both forever being unattached - more would not be impossible. But that is all I'll say, because we all have our own POVs, which I respect.

Oddly, however, the way you feel about G/E is how I feel about Stabler/Benson over on SVU. Maybe because of Stabler being married forever with kids. Or maybe because Olivia has bugged me for some time now. But I wish they'd stay just friends and stop cross pollinating their respective shows.

Back to CI, Logan's first CI partner was Carolyn Barek. Who, incidentally, popped up on an episode of SVU around February.

Yes, it's definitely possible and maybe even probable. I saw the last episode for the first time a few nights ago but didn't realize it was the last episode until there were no more episodes to watch and then I got to a few posts about it here and was like, ugh, I didn't even pay attention the end because I was Twittering while watching. Lol. I think they would be good together but I just never saw them that way. Goren did really care about her though. The way he freaked out when Eames was kidnapped.

After I posted above I came across a few posts about Barek (sp?) And yeah, it was Annabelle Sciora! Her character just came across as not wanting to be there. Very low energy and not into it. Hard to explain. Maybe she wasn't happy with the role? Idk.

Love Goren's mannerisms in the first seasons. Love how he bends forward and gets in the perps faces during interrogations. It really boggles the mind that VDO wasn't a bigger name in Hollywood. Such talent!

Rodgers definitely had her roots in the Mothership, no denying it. But as I have said before, she was practically another semi-regular part of the CI cast, at least in later seasons. Of course, much had to do with her....whatever...with Ross, but Rodgers still had good interactions with Goren [and got involved in his family drama], Eames, Logan, and such.

As an aside, I wish Leslie Hendrix kept her red hair. [Not even sure if that was her natural color, but she looked good as a redhead - and had the temperament for it!]

I agree that red is best on her. I do like that she changes it up though. And she can pull off every color! I envy anyone who can do that.

  21. I've paid for Peacock for two months now to get my fill of CI. I got rid of cable in 2007 (I've been streaming ever since) and although I bought season 1 on Prime video, my favorite episodes are in seasons 3-5. I've also been reading through the CI forums. I can't get CI's forums on TWOP with the Way Back Machine for whatever reason. Love to read others comments since I'm the only person I know who loved CI IRL. Early Goren is a masterpiece thanks to VDO. Love him and absolutely abhorred the personal crap they brought into the show in later seasons. That's what made CI a good show. It never got personal, unlike SVU (ugh that show is awful and how it's still going is beyond me). People have shite taste, I guess? Lol.

I think Nicole Wallace became overused but I also think Olivia D'Abo did a great job with the character. I personally saw a little bit of a crush or an attraction between her and Goren (not a popular opinion, I know). I first saw CI episodes in my later teens and I thought that "attraction" was apparent. And I whole heartedly agree with others that having Declan kill her was a terrible decision. So anticlimactic.

Surprised little is said of Logan's first partner here. I'm drawing a blank on the name of the character and actress at the moment. I wasn't a fan of Logan being brought in because I loved Goren so much. Now I've watched many of Logan's episodes this time around and he grew on me a bit. But yeah, I hated the "bad cop" crap they constantly brought up in his episodes. Like that's so rare in NYC? Ha! It was a bit much.

I am not and never have been a Goren and Eames shipper. I love them as a working team but can't see them as lovers or a couple for some reason.

I can't decide which episode is my f favorite. I love Suite Sorrow, Tuxedo Hill, In The Wee Small Hours, Death Roe, No Exit, The Gift, But Not Forgotten & Bedfellows (My Adelaaii!!) I read on the old forum where someone said the actress that played Charlene was on other episodes? I never saw her on another episode. She was not in Slither.  She was very good as Charlene. I envy her physique so I looked for her on rewatch and no go. I saw Lena's actress at least 3 times. And the actress in Suite Sorrow played the killer in that episode and in the astronaut episode.

Edited to add that I LOVE Deakins. Now that is a great looking older man! I also like Carver a lot too.  CBV knocked that role out of the park.

It SHOULDN'T be. So many (NOT ALL) people in this country are approved for SSI and SSDI and are perfectly capable of sitting on a chair/answering calls doing customer service.

Maybe Tammy doing something called a real job might give her some self worth and a legitimate income. Customer service call centers are a great way to meet people and learn alot about life. Lots of nice folks call in, and some a-holes but Tammy seems like a very calm person. She might do well as a CSR.

I'm actually liking Tammy more than Amy. Tammy has a longer road ahead but at least she's making legitimate mistakes (still over eating) as opposed to Amy who has already used the free weight loss surgery to get pregnant. Now Amy has crossed the line by bringing in an innocent child who will be raised by a bunch of  dysfunctional selfish morons.

I completely agree about the self-worth issue. And yeah, CSR would be a great way to take her mind off of food and give her confidence. And she can work remotely. She doesn't have to be seen, just heard. She has so much time to think about food and dwell on her resentments. Not to mention how easy it is to eat when you're bored.

  23. Since getting Hulu, I've been watching seasons 2-7 and reading your comments and live chats at the same time. Thank you all for being so entertaining with your thoughts, comments and delicious snark!! So I'm always curious why there's no medication prescribed like Naltrexone for addiction? Not saying medicine is a cure all because it's not. I just know that a drug similar to Wellbutrin and Naltrexone are often prescribed by doctors to curb addiction. I suppose these people don't visit a doctor but I don't get waiting till you're at deaths door to do something. I understand feelings of depression and hopelessness but damn... if I gain weight, I'm on the phone to my endocrinologist asap to check my hypothyroidism which I was diagnosed with at age 10.
