Those guys?   He got rid of Ty Law who was practically considered a Saint in Foxboro.   And that was after their first or second Super Bowl before everyone understood the "Belichek Way."

And Lawyer Malloy (one of a young Tom Brady's best friends on the team) and Richard Seymour and Darrell Revis (which, while prescient in retrospect was, at the time, felt to be a potential fatal blow to the secondary). Yeah... there are a lot of great players in Belichick's wake. A year too early is better than a year too late in his eyes.

I agree that Gronk isn't as indispensable as many may have previously thought, primarily because of his injury history. But I also think that his family's (particularly Paps Gronk's) meddling in the teams management of Gronks injuries is likely getting tiresome. I mean, I get that they are being protective but it seems to have gone past simply that and into "here's how it's going to be done whether you like it or not" territory (especially the "joint statements" that are very uncharacteristic for the Pats), which I think BB will have a low tolerance for.

That said, from all accounts, Gronk really is great in the community and does a TON of work in the community.

Has Robert Kraft had a stroke?

No. Speculation is that he was a wee bit drunk. ( I wasn't sure what was going on but all I could think of was that he sounded like the late Mayor Menino...!) Go Pats!

  3. I was disappointed that she sent Wells home. I really liked him. And I liked him precisely because he isn't the stereotypical "smooth, chiseled, says-all-the-right-things, cool guy". He's a bit dorky, a bit awkward (is that redundant? LOL), a bit cynical/guarded, and just... real.  And he's adorable!  (and after checking out his twitter/instagram, I think so even more.  And he seems to have remained friends with quite a few of the other guys, which is refreshing).

I can't get a read on what's up with Jordan. I heard him on a podcast recently and he actually came across as fairly charming, but on the show he comes across as cheesy and kinda suspect. So who knows. It's obvious that JoJo is completely into him though.

Luke does nothing for me. I don't see the chemistry that JoJo says she has with him, and I find him kinda "ken-doll"ish.

Alex... meh.  And the others really haven't made much of an impression one way or the other.

  4. I have seen Spotlight and was delighted it won Best Picture.  Was also delighted to see Mark Rylance win, as I loved his work in Wolf Hall (yes, I know) and was glad his talent was recognized for something, FINALLY.

I know that he's got a much lower profile in movies, but Mark Rylance is one of the best Broadway actors around (as well as a very decorated one). He's won 3 Tony awards (I saw him in Jerusalem, and he was AMAZING!)

  5. YAAAAYYYY!!!! Spotlight was SOOO good!  So happy for it.

And really happy for Leo. And loved his speech (and the fact that the orchestra didn't even attempt to start playing any music. There may have been a mutiny had they tried. Knew to just let him speak as long as he wanted!).

Damn. Boo you whore. Plus, blah, blah, climate change. That's all well and good and, yes, important, but seriously, this venue? Nobody cares.

Given that the global audience for the Academy Awards is so huge, I completely understand why someone might take the time to bring attention to something as important as this. And whether we like it or not, actors/celebrities can have quite a bit of influence.

    edited b/c spelling is important

  6. I thought LVP was pretty condescending throughout every conversation she had with Eileen,

Yeah, adding "if"'defeats the purpose of an apology in my book. What's to say "if" about when the other person is saying clearly "You did/said this thing about me/my husband/my family that offended me."? Responding with "I apologize *if* I offended you" just says that either 1) you aren't listening or 2) you don't give a rat's behind that the person was bothered by your statement/actions.

On top of that Lisa starting getting sarcastic with that non-apology, again, which doesn't help move anything forward in a positive direction.

Exactly. I often have enjoyed Lisa's no bullsh*t personality but tonight I wanted to throw my remote through the TV watching and listening to her. She came across as very condescending toward Eileen. Should Eileen have maybe just dropped it after a while? Possibly, but at the same time...she never got mean or sarcastic or really shouty with Lisa. She relatively calmly tried to explain to Lisa why she was upset, which Lisa validated at every point in the conversation. She was sarcastic, dismissive, and IMO completely insincere in her "apologies".  She is VERY adept at turning every situation into one in which SHE has the upper hand: SHE is the one being offended; SHE is the one being persecuted; SHE is the one being misunderstood.

I'll give her credit for being a master at the game, but as much as I wanted to throw my PHONE at the TV listening to Erica tonight, she isn't completely wrong in her assessment of Lisa V.

And god, don't get me started on Yolanda.  That woman would have worn out my last nerve long ago.  I honestly find myself wondering just how far off the "munchausen" comments were.  And I think someone upthread said she was narcissistic... oh so true. She's another one who has mastered the self-rightous, holier-than-though faux outrage.

This show is like a car accident along the side of the road.  I have no reason to really care, but can't look away.

  7. I don't know, Leo.  I like Tom Hardy, but he strikes me as someone who would bury someone, if he felt it would help his acting craft.  Just saying: I would not want to fuck with Tom Hardy.

Well, you may be right, because apparently Tom Hardy is a real *sshole.

I hope Leo wins an Oscar.  Matt Damon was on Graham Norton and had some really interesting comments about winning his Oscar when he did and not having to chase it his whole career.  I'd like to see Leo win his now so he doesn't have that albatross hanging around his neck any longer. He's definitely deserving.

  8. The brunette in green is stunning. Who is she?

    Jamie Alexander. Stars in "Blindspot".

Melissa McCarthy really is a beautiful woman.

ETA: I really wish Gaga would go back to her natural brunette hair.  I can't help thinking she looks too much like a knock-off Madonna (who also looks better with her natural brunette hair...).

  9. I am going to lose my sh*t if I see one more "medical" show in which surgeons waltz INTO THE OR without their surgical mask pulled up.  Seriously, whoever they are paying to be their "technical advisors" either are being disregarded completely for the sake of "we can't hear the pretty person talking if there is a mask covering their face" or they aren't doing a very good job of "advising".

I miss ER.  That was the one (and only) show that consistently got it right.

  10. I could have SO much fun with this thread!

The Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Hugh Bonneville episode is one of the flat-out funniest things I think I've ever seen. Someone has the whole episode posted but this is just one clip:

This is the clip mentioned above of Robbie Williams and Emma Thompson:

And just one more (for now...!) The entire below  show with Adele and Jack Whitehall and Miranda Hart is hysterical!

  11. Totally agree that Timberlake is better than Bieber, but why does it have to be either? Why can't country stand on its own?

I think JT is very talented; just tired of seeing him everywhere.

I often tend to wonder why the Country Music Award shows (both the ACMs and the CMAs) feel the need to bring in "outsiders" so much too. I think in part it's an attempt to pull in non-Country fans in hopes that they'll like what they hear and give the genre more of a try.  Sometimes (often) it makes little sense (eg. Fall Out Boy).

BUT... in the case of Chris Stapleton/JT, it was actually a cool thing.  Apparently, Chris and JT have been friends for a few years and JT has been singing Chris's praises for a while (posting on Twitter, etc about what a great talent he is), and Chris asked him to perform with him on the CMAs.  And honestly, I thought they BOTH killed it.

Also... for those who enjoyed Chris Stapleton, I'd offer his former band The Steeldrivers as something to check out.  More Bluegrass than typical "country radio" country but, just great.  Adele covered one of their songs (If It Hadn't Been for Love) for a while.

  12. Just finally caught up with all the episodes and I have one thing to say:

I CANNOT STAND Cat. She is a self-centered, entitled, obnoxious, manipulative, mean girl and her constant nasty facial expressions  are such that I'm surprised Stephanie AND/or Jessica hasn't slapped them off of her yet.
