Oh yes, I do know they have a brand (a few, right?) I think it was just the sentence that listed them alongside Dolce and Gabana as examples of collaborators that had me a bit head-spinny. ;)

That's only brand I know of as theirs.  Listed alongside D&G?  I haven't watched the show yet, but yeah I would get head spinny too. =)

  2. Aloha All!

Geez, I haven't been here for a while and had to figure out what my password was.  Finally remembered.  Anyway, I read somewhere that Dan and Deena honeymooned in Hawaii so went looking for the parts of the island they visited and I found this too.  I hope it's okay to post it.  Mods delete if it's not okay.

  3. OK...since a couple of people did ask, here's my coinstar related "ghost" story...

This took place a few years ago when we were stationed  in Hawai'i. Actually we were in the process of moving back to the mainland, and my husband had gone ahead of me by a few weeks while I dealt with the packout logistics, getting our son (the only kid still left at home) ready for his own move to college in North Dakota (!), etc.

The house we lived in was one of the historic homes on base right across from the shipyard. It had been built somewhere around 1913, so was one of the original structures which had been there during the attack. Lots of people we knew (mostly in either those houses or the ones on Ford Island or Hospital Point) had their own stories of strange happenings, but though we had been there for two years, I never felt anything but a gracious vibe about the house. Quite welcoming, really (which I was glad about as I'd frankly had just a tiny bit of trepidation about living in such a notoriously "haunted" area).

At any rate, the last couple of weeks I was there, I was alone in the house. Son was gone, all the furniture packed out, and just living with a few pieces of "Aloha" furniture until the last of the logistics were taken care of and I could fly out. Since I'm a fairly reclusive person by nature that actually suited me pretty well, and though I met a couple of people for lunch or whatnot during those last weeks, no one else actually came in the house.

As I've mentioned, I save bags of change for the coinstar, and had a pretty hefty one which I'd planned on trading in right before leaving. Again, it was stashed in a drawer in the bedroom which was in a sort of remote end of the house, which even if someone HAD come inside, which they didn't, they would have to really be scrounging around the far corners to come across it.

One evening, having nothing else to do, I dumped all the change out on the bed and counted it. There was the usual assortment of coins in there...nothing out of the ordinary...I had it all in neat little piles, so I'd have noticed. When I was done, I put it back in the bag and stashed it back in the drawer.

The following day, I took it to the coinstar and started dumping it into the tray. As it started slipping its way down the chute, suddenly I saw an odd coin, different from anything else, and managed to grab it before it slipped away.

    It was a silver half-dollar. From 1941.

I have no idea how it got there, and there may be some logical explanation, but I can't think of one. I choose to think it was a farewell present from some long ago resident of the house who had enjoyed our company :)

Lots of reading to catch up on and I've been just skimming through posts but, this got my attention.  After I saw the year of the coin it reminded me that the Pearl Harbor attack was on December 7, 1941.  So I'm chosing to also think that it was a farewell gift as well as a reminder of what happened that year.

  4. Haven't been here for a while except to pop in a few times to see if Jessa has given birth

Let's just go with "Peter Gabriel." Nice and biblical, and an unwitting secular tribute.

Agree that Peter Gabriel is a nice name but, it reminds so much of the singer in the 80's and his song Sledgehammer.  I don't know if any of you have watched the video but, it starts out with sperm swimming.  Ha!

  5. From Jill and Derick's FB fanpage.  It seems like they are with the SOS group that will be in the Honduras until August 1.  I wonder where Jill and Derick will be after that?  The caption read "Jill with the team in Honduras yesterday".

  6. My family all has red hair. Once we left WV, we have always been commented on. Our local PA paper did an article on us, we stood out so much.

I think Derick's comment was inartful, but he's an accountant, and a lot of accountants don't have savvy communication skills. (I have savvy communication skills, but my husband does the taxes.)

The bolded reminds me of a time when my Acctg Supe asked me to email a couple of people.  After I sent it he came out with a shocked looked on his face.  He said that it was very blunt. But hey, I wrote what needed to be said, lol!  Any messages after, I had to go over and sugar coat before hitting the send button.

    Saw this pic on Pickles.

  7. Totally off the wall but...I'd appreciate any prayers, good thoughts, good vibes whatever...I've been out of work pretty much since the end of January. Only by the grace of God and a few temp jobs we've survived this long. I got a call TODAY (yes, Sunday) from an engineering firm here in town that is VERY interested in me. I have a face to face interview tomorrow at 10am PDT. The guy has actually called me TWICE today.

So...if you can throw some good thoughts my way, I'd appreciate it bigtime!

Keeping Wanderwoman, Jenniferbug and the babies in my thoughts today and everyday....

Wishing you the very best of luck and throwing happy thoughts your way for your interview tomorrow!

  8. Wanderwoman, a few posters mentioned speaking to a hospital social worker.  Many years ago my mom was in a hospital for many months and her medical bills amounted to six figures.  My sister and I helped her out by using her SSI and whatever we could to contribute monthly.  In the meantime a social worker sent applications for grants on my mother's behalf.  The first year a grant paid half and we continued to pay monthly.  The second year the social worker got another grant which paid half of what balance there was.  We were so relieved and figured what was left would be very manageable but to our surprise the social worker got hold of another grant the following year which paid the balance.

My sister was the primary caregiver but also needed to work so she enrolled our mom in an adult day care center.  A social worker got a grant that paid half of the monthly cost.

If you decide to seek a hospital social worker I hope that he/she will be able to help you like we were.  ((HUGS TO YOUR FAMILY))

  9. I'll be in the outskirts of Honolulu! I've done a lot of research already. I love to be outside so it's pretty much all hiking/watersports/beach bumming!!

I'm so glad you won't be traveling to Honolulu until next week.  We are tracking a tropical depression that should pass by the Hawaiian chain this weekend.  I hope it doesn't turn into a tropical storm but if it does fingers crossed that it stays on the track it is now and move pass us northeast of the islands.

Do some beach bumming on our North Shore where the beaches are beautiful!  On the way, stop by Kahuku and have some shrimp and then shaved ice (with ice cream) in Haleiwa. =)

  10. I was just wondering.  What if that pic is not of Jerrick leaving for their mission trip.  Look at the 4th of July pic...looks like Jill gave him another bad haircut and his hair is long in the pic of them ready to board the airplane.

  11. From FJ:

A friend of J&D posted these on his IG.

and a pic of the friend's wife (she wears skinny jeans!) with Sierra:  https://instagram.com/p/4ippaHxhF-/

JIll looks like she's lost weight.  She still has a tummy but mine looked that way up to almost half a year after having a hysterectomy.  Her incision has healed on the outside but inside takes a while longer.

Derick sounds different  I don't know.  It could be because he's still healing from oral surgery.

I wonder if that is Smug and Anna's house they are working on?

  12. To be fair to Jill, based on the invite, it looks like she didn't speak at the event, but instead showed up for the nightly gala. Seeing, being seen, signing books and autographs sort of thing.

They weren't keynote speakers during the conference but they shared at the Gala Event.  Depending what is meant by sharing it could be like what you said.

  13. This photog took some really crappy shots at their wedding. Now Jilly Muffin has three arms! LOL

I finally got around to looking at the picture.  What looks like a finger pointing up is, to me anyway, the line going across the palm and the other is the line at the base of the index finger.  Yes, I admit it.....I had to look at my own hand first and then his.  The only wonky part I see is his thumb area.
