Hello mafioso's!

Our motto is 'The more, the merrier'; whether you're a newbie who's never played before or an old hand, we look forward to playing with you. You are welcome to sign up to any game and get involved in the fun.  

Typically, only one game should be running at a time, (unless we get lots and lots of new players!) with the next upcoming game thread being open for sign ups.

Can anyone run a game? Yes!: 

• First come, first served. If you'd like to run the next game, please post a new topic with the title of your game ex. 'Sherlock Mafia' and ask for sign ups.
• If you'd like to run a game at some point but are unsure about when that will be, please post in the Game Theme Suggestions topic and we'll update the OP.

 

Mafia Explained & How To Play

The best way to learn how to play mafia is to join a game and play mafia.

If you're new to mafia this guide is designed to give you a quick overview of how games work.

Set Up:

1. We use story based gameplay scenarios usually based on popular tv shows or films.
2. Mafia is based on an imaginary town that consists of at least two opposing factions: One good team (the Town) and one evil team (the Mafia). The objective of the Town is to eliminate all the members of the Mafia, whereas the objective of Mafia is to kill enough townies to achieve equal numbers with the Town, at which point they can't lose an execution (hereafter known as a 'DL') vote.
3. All members of the Town are informed only of their own identity; they have no idea what roles other players in the game may have or who is who. The Mafia team has the advantage that they all know each other’s identities and are able to talk to each other in a group PM. However, the town starts the game with twice the numbers of the Mafia. For example, in a 12-player game, you might expect there to be 4 mafia and 8 townies.

Play: 

1. The game mod(s) announce sign ups for the upcoming game and members add their name to the list until the game mod(s) close sign ups. Soon after, all players will receive a PM detailing their role, abilities and character in the game, and then confirm they have received and understood their PM in the game thread.
2. Play officially begins once the Day 1 story is posted. No discussion is permitted outside of the game thread unless you have been given explicit permission in your PM.
3. The game consists of 3 phases: 
   • Day - lasts 36hrs 
   • Twilight - lasts a minimum of 12hrs 
   • Night - lasts 24hrs.
4. Each Day a story is posted which usually contains at least 1 clue to a mafia member's player identity. Day is when all players can discuss possible clues and decide whether or not to start or join a DL, a minimum of 50% +1 of players voting is required to complete a DL. Days last 36hrs or until a DL is completed, whichever comes first.
5. Then comes Twilight. Each Twilight is announced with a 12hr window during which any player(s) with a Twilight ability should PM the game mod(s) with their actions before the deadline. During Twilight, gameplay discussion may continue but no votes can be altered once Day has ended. Twilight continues until the Night story is posted.
6. Night lasts 24hrs during which the Mafia team are able to submit a kill order on 1 townie. They and any other players with Night actions should submit their choices via PM to the game mod(s) before the 24hr deadline expires. No gameplay discussion is permitted in the game thread during Night. It is only during the Night phase that any dead players are able to join in with non game related chat and have a drink at the virtual bar. Night then continues until the next Day story is posted.
7. This entire cycle repeats until the Town has executed all those who oppose it before the Mafia can kill enough Townies to ensure that they cannot be DL'ed.
