I could deal with the departure of either Sophia Bush (Lindsay) or Elias Koteas (Olinsky) but I don’t know if I can last with the loss of both.

Chicago PD was special because of the chemistry and built in relationships the original cast had. Olinsky was the yin to Voights yang. Lindsay humanized him. The vibe is completely different now, it seriously feels like a different show.

I cannot stand Upton, Antonio is a crybaby bitch that constantly grates my nerves, and Ruzek behaves like a hormonal teenager. Burgess is cool but she’s not enough. Jay is just...there.

Some really bad casting and storyline decisions were made along the way. Let’s see if they can recover.

Man.. Adam wade insufferable tonight... And way disrespectful... Major daddy issues with that guy.. And as usual... There don't seem to be any repercussions for the team's less than legal actions... And as I've said before if this show portrayed these guys like the dudes on "The Shield" I wouldn't mind.   In fact I'd be rooting for it.. But thus show keeps trying to tell me these are elite good guy cops.. Yet they keep doing all sorts of nonsense and pretty much get away with it.. Did burgess say anything anything this week... Did Jay???  Poor haileys is telling yet another person she's teamed up with to chill out and calm down.. Seems like that's all she's done since joining...
Still ima keep watching

Agreed that the show is competent different to how it started. The relationships aren't as strong. While I agree Marina as Burgess has become a strong character it's not enough on its own.

Part of what made Jay a great character at the beginning was his relationships with Lindsay and Mouse and Voight. As already said now he's just there.

Okay, I am an unashamed Ruzek fan, but I will admit he was acting like a bit of a dick in this.

I did appreciate his confession to Atwater than he couldn't lose another friend this week, but at least he showed some personality and emotion. The rest of the time he was a snot. They could have just put cardboard cutouts of the rest of them. Can Eid not write for more than two or three people per episode? The Antonio/Ruzek tension was the only interesting thing going on.

Antonio certainly had an issue with his own ego, he refused to listen to anyone else's POV or ideas on how to solve the case and was willing to let more people die just so he could say he was right. In saying that I would have loved for him in charge to last for more than a week, it certainly gave it a different dynamic but it's no surprise that it was a one and done. It's what this show does well.

How long are they going to drag out this blond chick? So unnecessary.

Upton continues to have all the personality of a dead pot plant.

I'm not going to feel sorry for Voight no matter what this show does. Him hiding on the side of a building to participate in his friend's funeral who's death he shares blame in didn't illicit a bit of sympathy from me. It seemed like the show runners were trying to force their belief onto viewers which is that Voight is what holds the team together and that they as a group of adults couldn't possibly make it without him. We didn't even get through an entire episode before his unprofessional ass was reinstated.

Before he was reinstated . . . . . he orchestrated an illegal conversation with a suspect, breaking and entering a home, burning U.S. currency, and intimidating the wife/significant other of the previously named suspect. All this while on suspension but under the guise of "saving lives"; and then he returns unscathed to running the Intelligence Unit. What a joke.

To be fair, he's not doing the writing but I maintain that he has no grasp of this show. As doLLish pointed out, the entire cast had chemistry and a relationship and all of the characters worked together. Eid does not seem to have an understanding of this or he does not care. Either way, he completely destroyed it and threw it out the window. He sort of changed the characters and their relationships/chemistry. Such a pity because even without Lindsay, this could have continued to be a great show.

Very true he doesn't write the show but I agree with you, he has no grasp on this show, the characters or the relationships. They are just a bunch of randoms working together with the odd crumb of previous seasons comaraderie thrown in.

Even though he doesn't write he has the creative directive over the writers and must instruct them to write the way they do.

So Anne Heche replaces Bubba Gump as Voight/Intelligence's thorn.

Good luck Voight with signing up to be her "friend."

She is terrible though, and I am not sure how much is her and how much was the writing. The thing with her and Antonio where she said something about how you only get an A for effort in kindergarten was ridiculous.Who would say that?

And what was she doing with all that weird looking around and pauses when talking to Voight at the end?

When has Voight ever listened to anybody when he was running things?

Really disappointing for a season opener.  Voight walks away unscathed.  Anne Heche is a terrible actress, totally unbelievable in that role.  I wouldn't be surprised if Voight starts banging her.  They will give him a love interest at some point.  She will turn out to be just as shady as Bubba Gump.  Not enough Trudy, but she is great in every scene she's in.  I might be the only one who doesn't hate Upton, but she's just kind of there, like Halstead.  Totally underwhelmed with this episode.

No I like her too.. I'm hoping they pair her up with atwater so we can have two level-headed... Competent.. Caring good cops working together... But maybe the show doesn't want that... Plus since she's been on the team I don't think they've even had any one on one time.. She's had time with halstead and burgess and Voight even ruzek... So I guess now that shes thru with all the white folks she can get to work with Dawson and Atwater

For some reason I think her and Atwater would work.

I see it too.. But maybe its too normal abd drama free for the showrunners.. Tho a competent writing staff probably could come up with some compelling.. Non eye-rolling stuff

There have been plenty of occasions when someone has come up with a plan, Halstead and Mouse did, Ruzek went and asked if he could run with something. Sure he's pigheaded a lot of the time but he does listen when someone has an idea.

He''s a black man and she's a white woman, tie that in with the aspects of law enforcement and the streets and there is plenty of drama.

I know they couldn't really do much about it, what with Sophia Bush leaving and all, but couldn't they at least throw in a random line about how they "weren't able to reach Lindsay in time for the funeral" or something?? Because there is just no freakin' way she wouldn't come to Al's funeral...or to Voight when he's clearly having an emotional breakdown...

They would require Eid having a clue and I am yet to see he has one.

And this.

After all the complaining from the higher ups about Voight not going by the rules, what happens when Antonio tries going by the rules, he gets bitched at.  Like a lot of people, the idiots in charge of the Chicago PD, don't realize they are part of the problem.
