This is seriously my favorite show this fall. So cliché, Riggs and the kid but I absolutely loved it. Does Riggs only have two outfits? Demin and demin?

Murtaugh and the motorcycle were also funny. Love the scene at the end with JR bringing them gas. He is such a cheesy teenager, and totally has Roger's sense of humor.

It was interesting that the boys' stories were really separate this week. Murtaugh interacted with all the other detectives while Riggs was with the kid and the Shrink. I knew as soon as we saw the check that Riggs was going to give it to the kid.

I really did like at the end when the bad guy got up to go after Riggs and the kid, Riggs didnt even try to shoot him. He put himself between the kid and the shooter and covered him up. I know he has a death wish, but that move was pretty heroic. I hope he keeps in touch with the kid, we hear thay he talks to him on the phone or takes him out to do something. We don't have to see him, but hear about him. If the show is lucky, maybe see him again in a couple of years.

Um, next week's preview?!?! I can't wait already!

No wonder the casino is in trouble....no supervisor verifies that the check is real...then seeing the amount, refuse the bet. Riggs would have won 35 x $147K

I've seen a lot of high limit roulette games, but nobody allows that much on a single number.

I thought that too but I hand waved it like so much on the show because the moment worked for me otherwise.  Tiggs didn't want the money and just randomly set it down hoping it would go away.  Murtaugh "Not a motorcycle guy" just saw what amounted to a nest egg flying away.  It worked as a friendship moment if nothing else.  As did the end where Riggs gave the money to Ethan and his mom which was predictable but a kind thing to do.  Something that a family man like Murtaugh would approve of.

IRL, I could see Riggs giving up to half of it to the injured (hence unemployed) single mom and kid, but it's not like Riggs is one of the 1% and doesn't need the money himself — we've seen where he lives. It just made me wonder how rich are the writers.

Yes, his little trailer is a dump, but I don't think he cares about that at all.  People who don't want to live often don't take care of themselves in basic ways (food, hygiene) and they certainly don't bother to plan long term.

To me, the one thing lacking was it didn't show why Riggs bonded with the boy. Of course, I see the reasoning, and I'm not suggesting Riggs isn't a nice guy ... but he can barely take care of his dog. He is still (I suppose) suicidal. No court or proper authority would ever think he'd be right to even temporarily take care of the kid. But the writers sprinkle some fairy dust and ...Presto, Riggs has a kid (for the night). Still, I liked the show, but this undesrscores to me that the writers sometimes cut some big corners on this show.

Riggs was supposed to take Ethan to foster care, but he took the kid home instead.  something I see Riggs doing.  I really like how the two bonded with each other and would see more of it.

The fairy dust was Riggs not following orders, so...perfectly in line with what Riggs does.

This is my fall show too! An seriously, Riggs can keep wearing that denim buttoned up and unbuttoned!!!

I thought the interactions between him and the kid were great. I am hoping him and the kid remain pals but they don't try to have him date the mom or Jordan Brewster.

Do we really see Rog and Trish climbing Kilimanjaro? That would be hilarious.

With Kilimanjaro, there is no climbing involved. It is just a very long hike at elevation.  They are fit and could both do it (provided they don't get altitude sickness).

I was thinking that. First he loses a million dollars and then he loses much more than that on a big bet? The casino would have closed their doors.

I was amazed at the size of the bag of dog food he purchased. That is a very long-term commitment for him signifying quite a break through. Although, I loved the dog's attitude when it took his burrito. "Talk to the tail, I'm hungry"

I think this show is all about the little breakthroughs when it comes to Riggs which is realistic when someone is depressed.  You just don't wake up and say "I'll be happy now".  You find little reasons to get up in the morning and go on with the day.  It would have been easy for the show to drop the "suicidal" Riggs and just go with Action Riggs but I find this far more interesting.  Having Riggs learn to live again is an interesting and unusually deep story for what is otherwise a cookie cutter (although well acted) action series.

They really hit gold with that child actor - the moment he lost it after the biker tried to shoot Murtaugh was really well acted. Or his muted confession on having had an accident.
Very good episode with a perfect balance between drama and comedy. I also think they got a better handle on the shrink. Loved her ganging up with Murtaugh against Riggs. Strictly speaking that's not very professional but who cares - it was pretty funny.

Yep to all of this!

Okay I'll nitpick. A fictional casino instead of one not even in the city of Los Angeles along with games which are actually allowed outside of the Indian Casinos wouldn't have caused a few moments of wait a minute for me.

I just love this show. I knew tatted up detective was gonna blow it about the kid in front of the defense attorney. I kinda thought by the captain's expression that he knew ol dude shouldn't have said anything in front of her and that it would come back up but it didn't so that was a nice surprise.

OMG y'all next week!!!

The real Hollywood Park [Inglewood] closed in 2013. So you would be OK with Bollywood / Dollywood Park????

Any other name would have done, even Hustler Casino, Hollywood Park took me out for a second and then I remembered this is Lethal Weapon and not Southland
