I actually find that kind of hilarious, especially because I don't think John is stupid enough to be swayed by Angelina. Edited October 12, 2018 by LadyChatts Link to comment

I feel we don't know enough to categorically say he's just being paranoid, but something feels off about all of this. Maybe we'll learn more as the season goes on. We already saw Jeremy's version was right. She couldn't order production to shut up and not show this on the show which they did in the very first episode. 1 Link to comment

marys1000 October 13, 2018 Share October 13, 2018 I think Angelina was trying to Parvati John, and no it wasn't working. Doesn't mean she didn't keep trying though and John probably didn't burn any bridges. I think Jeremy is using the term shomance loosely/strongly 3 Link to comment

LadyChatts October 26, 2018 Share October 26, 2018 I was actually surprised by the reaction to Natalie's ouster. There were many who were disappointed. Yet, she voted for Lyrsa? What exactly was Lyrsa supposed to do? Natalie dug her own grave. I found her weirdly entertaining (I still can't figure out why), but she really lost me over demanding Nick give over his jacket for his place in the game, then comparing it to sales. That said, I would have rather seen Angelina go home over her. It would have been interesting to see Natalie's reaction to Mike flipping and Angelina being the one leaving. I am sorry for the comments Lyrsa is getting. Those are downright terrible. She's playing the game, and again, voted for the person who also voted against her. Quote Exactly. I mean take Joe, I know he was on a season but for the life of me I cannot remember which one it was (was it last season?). I vaguely remember him and I remember not liking him but yeah I am at a loss as to why I did not like him or what season he was actually on. S35, considered one of the worst seasons ever by fans. Joe was very much a bully and wannabe villain who supposedly relished all the backlash he got. So maybe he's just jealous that this season is already getting a positive reception four episodes in. I'm honestly not surprised by his remarks. And frankly, I find adult bullies much worse than kid bullies. 3 Link to comment

I know many always use the "he took four attempts to win" (and I won't even go into my argument I've made many times that not winning doesn't necessarily make one a bad Survivor player since the show does have a lot of luck in it - what tribe you end up on, tribal switch ups, then idols came into play in later seasons, etc.) but in my opinion, Rob's performance in All Stars will always rank as one of the greatest in the show's history for the fact that he pulled off an obvious two person alliance, was a visible strategic and physical threat and still made it to the end. Sure one can argue it's because many of the players figured he was so disliked that they could beat him in the end but it was credit to him that they really all believed he would take them to the end. As for the Redemption Island season, I know the popular opinion is that he was handed that season but I disagree. Yeah his tribe was filled with fawning fans of his that made it easy for him to maneuver and take control of the tribe but they were also the weaker tribe and kept losing until the other tribe foolishly threw a challenge to get rid of Russell. Not to mention that Redemption Island being in play meant that players weren't automatically eliminated. Sure in the end it didn't affect the season that much but it was still a question mark he had to maneuver with. And many of the people in his tribe on Redemption Island talked later about the fact that they got so much flak for seeming like blind drones but admitted that the editing didn't show how Rob actually did build or try to forge some connection with most of them individually. So they all thought they had some connection with him, which is why they were so loyal. And of course it was bullshit on his part but they didn't know that. His All-Stars performance was pretty masterful, especially toward the end when at least one of those dummies should have woken up and realized that the couple needed to be split up. Playing Rupert and Big Tom against each other at the precise moment that they should have joined together should never have worked, but it did. And I'll always love how bitter the Lex/Kathy alliance was at having to cast a vote for either him or Amber. Also, Amber wasn't exactly a strategic giant in Australia and I'm not sure how much better she was in All-Stars, so I feel lichee did the heavy lifting in that alliance, unlike Parvati in Micronesia, who had the benefit of working with both Cirie and Amanda, who WERE known strategists (though Parvati's social skills were key to carrying out the plans). Quote My problem with this is that his idea of "compelling" sucks. I don't find either Rob or Cochran compelling. There are plenty of compelling winners out there. He just does a shitty job of recognizing them. But overall, I do agree that Probst should never be the one determining who is "compelling." He has 2 types of players that he gives credit to: alpha males and flirty women. That's it. He gives full credit to alpha males for the complete game and tends to give credit to women only for manipulating men. So Parvati gets some respect from him, while Sandra doesn't. 2 Link to comment

In the 2015 article for Parade, Jeff chose Cochran as the best winner (to that point), and Rob C as the best non-winner. Neither one is an alpha male -- almost the opposite. Jeff also ranked Sandra in his top 10 winners -- for both her seasons. Others in his top 10 list include Kim and Denise. So Sandra gets plenty of respect, as do other top women players whose games have nothing to do with flirting. Last, I don't believe Parvati did so great only by manipulating men. Just the opposite. She's probably the biggest quadruple threat ever in Survivor. The most adaptable, who fits her game to whatever twist, challenge or bad break it throws at her. 7 Link to comment

LadyChatts October 28, 2018 Share October 28, 2018 S39 will likely film from end of March/beginning-middle of May, and S40 end of May/beginning of June-mid July. IIRC, from what Redmond use to say about casting, calls start going out in January. Not sure if it's the final casting calls or if that's when they first narrow their pool down. This will be the first season that Canadians can apply to, so I'm anxious to see how many of our friends north of the border get on. In the past few seasons Redmond mentioned them having trouble with casting, but I believe that boiled down to the theme. I don't know if S40 will be some big alumni season of sorts, but I'm curious what recycled or semi-recycled theme we'll get for S39! 3 Link to comment

Yeah, I'd be surprised if they didn't have an inaugural Canadian in the mix. Interesting about casting. I attended a casting call at our local shopping center the other day. Each person got 60 seconds to plead their case in front of a camera. There were two cameras and two lines. It all seemed to move along very fast. I know they were there from 10-3pm so 5 hours. I watched for about 30 minutes and in that time, at least 60 ppl went through. So, I think a reasonable estimate for the day might have been 600 qty (120 ppl per hour x 5 hours = 600). That's just one city. Let's say they only go to 10 major metro areas like they did mine...that's about 6000 ppl (10 cities x 600 ppl ea). I have no sense for how many ppl mail in auditions, but let's say another 100 per state = 5000 and we'll round to 6000 for easy math. So, 6000 in-person + 6000 mail-in = 12,000 auditions per round of auditions (although I'm guessing they don't do the city visits for every season and just pull from previous submissions as needed). Anyway, the point I was going to make was that it was AMAZING how dull people were when speaking to the camera. No energy, no personality, etc. I did see one who reminded me a lot of Tony - similar line of work, look, and personality. He made a great case, but he was the only one out of the 60 that I saw. So, if 1 in 60 (2%) has good charisma on camera, and if there are 12,000 auditions, then only 240 (2%) are worth looking at. That is NOT a big pool. Totally unscientific numbers, but...based on what I saw, I could see how the need to recruit and/or expand into Canada arises. I'm guessing things were different when the show first started. After so many seasons, etc. interest might just not be there anymore. I prefer applicants to recruits but after watching it live, I get it a bit better. Melina22 October 29, 2018 Share October 29, 2018 This makes me even sadder for the people who make it to the show, against all odds, then get voted off first. I know you were just expressing this dramatically, but it's a subject we should all be more aware of. But I do really like both of them! I didn't realize he has a gf and I can certainly understand why it would bother most anyone when a showmance ruins a rl romance. After all, his gf back home has no chance to intervene since she is effectively locked out of this situation and that means if she wants to keep Christian, it would not be a fair fight. However, I can't imagine why she would want to keep Christian if he decides to make his way in life with Gabby and not his rl gf. I don't think I like Christian as much as you do. I found it really unfortunate the way he was so quick to "throw Gabby under the bus" so to speak when some of the other contestants tried to find someone to blame for Jessica leaving and Christian was real quick to heap blame on Gabby. I have no idea if he was just trying to engage in some advanced game play. But surely he must realize how much that will hurt Gabby's feelings when it invariably gets back to her. I just don't understand that aspect of his game. I also find it strange that he seems to have such a strong need to link up with so many of the other male players. I kind of get the feeling that despite all his many talents, Christian is just not comfortable in his own skin and is always on the lookout to hookup with some other people in some search for happiness. I get the impression that he must live a very lonely life. As for Gabby, I fail to understand why it is that I find Gabby so incredibly adorable. She's not especially physically beautiful according to the standards most men would set (by the way, despite my name, I have before explained that I'm actually a middle-aged (plus) man. I worry that some of Gabby's friends might tell her that some fool is posting on this site about her and making fun of her ears. That would bother me because I honestly think her ears are incredibly cute - more than cute AAMOF - adorable. But ignoring her appearance entirely, I find her nerd-like qualities to also be very attractive. I've always felt a kinship with ladies who are very clever and educated. I know many people are bothered by Gabby's emotional neediness. But for some reason, I find her to be one of the most attractive ladies I've ever seen on TV. I love most everything about her - especially her personality and her admitted nerd-like qualities. I've never seen ears that look like hers before and when I posted that her appearance reminded me of some cute little animal and Bryce said that she looked kind of like an Elf, that struck me like a thunderbolt. I've always been fascinated with Elves - originally in a MUD (Multi-User Dungeons & Dragons game). But she sure does look like an elf and I love that. I seriously wish Gabby every happiness in her life. Of course, it won't have anything to do with me since I'm more than twice her age. But I think she sure does deserve to have a happy life-long love relationship and I hope she finds someone who will make her happy. Edited October 29, 2018 by MissBluxom 2 Link to comment

Fun time mingling with others, but I'm in the 50+ camp and I don't think I'll be on Survivor any time soon :) Given that you're in the 50+ camp, I think it could be potentially very dangerous for you to try to compete against people in their 20s or 30s on Survivor. Unless, of course, you are in some kind of supreme physical condition. The challenges they run put huge strains and stresses on most everyone and if you don't exercise regularly and run marathons or Triathalons, I would have to guess there could exist some very real dangers you could suffer some kind of terrible life-threatening injuries like a heart attack or a stroke or a heat stroke. Survivor is a great game. But it sure as shit ain't worth giving up your life to play that game. It takes an incredibly wise person with an excellent sense of self to know better than to risk killing themselves. I've often expressed the opinion that extreme physical deprivations and physical exertions required of the contestants may not be as important to this show as most folks think. I really don't think the show would suffer very much if they changed the nature of the challenges and the deprivations so that older people could compete. I don't think it would be all that difficult and they could even run two shows each year - one for younger and extremely fit people and another one where mental challenges, social awareness and social skills play a more prominent role so that older folks could compete fairly. I understand that harsh physical deprivations do indeed add an interesting element to the players' decision making. But, IMHO, watching people in their 50s or 60s compete with folks in their 20s and 30s is just straight-up nuts! I'm Sorry. But I needed to spit that out. 1 Link to comment

I wasn’t going to audition, just to watch (I am vegan which I think would be pretty tough in that situation). 1 Link to comment

What a great interview. I had no idea that I liked Lyrsa that much. But I like her to the max! She is an amazing lady. @LanceM - Thanks very much for posting that. P.S. I was absolutely floored at how intelligent Lyrssa came across in that interview. She is a wonderful and amazing lady. Edited October 30, 2018 by MissBluxom 3 Link to comment
ByaNose October 30, 2018 Share October 30, 2018 I like Lyrsa a little more now. She had a good two episodes but then she went silent. The interview cleared some hints up for me. It’s obvious that Mike really wanted to stay Goliath strong but Natalie was too much of a pain in the a**. Now, that Natalie is gone who’s next? It seems like Lyrsa has a good sense of the game and is playing it well. If she can make the merge she might do well. Once again, jacket-gate is real. Now, we just need someone to make one those special Survivor opening credits with a shot of jacket?. LOL!!!!!!! It’s almost an extra cast member just like the chicken that Tai had. 1 Link to comment

cooksdelight October 30, 2018 Share October 30, 2018 I wish they’d stop with the themes, the big feasts, all the cornball stuff. Just one season, give me a Survivor with no gimmicks. 6 Link to comment
MisterBluxom October 30, 2018 Share October 30, 2018 (edited) As far as John and Angelina goes, on a scale of "Attractiveness to the opposite gender", measured from 1 to 10, John would be a 9 or 10. I can't imagine hardly any female being able to cause him to do anything by flirting with him. On a scale of "Savvyness in Manipulations attempted by one gender against the other", I would again rate John a 9 or 10. If some female were to try and use her sexual attractiveness to either advance her game or harm his game, I would expect John to be able to outsmart her with both hands tied behind his back. If Angelina really has any ideas about messing with John, she had best forget them right quick. If she were to ever try such a thing, I think she'd be taking the Survivor Walk of Shame almost immediately. John is maybe ten times the player she is.
