Cinci has fired their DC.

Why haven't they fired Taylor tho? As long as hes been HC they've started 0-2 or 0-3.  He never has this team prepared for the start of the season.

Taylor is lucky he has Burrow Chase and Higgins.  Without them he probably would have been fired a few years ago. He is not one of those coaches who makes a team better. He is one of those coaches who's team makes me him look good.  Or at least not bad.

Taylor is under contract.  So unless they give him the Marvin Lewis treatment, they'll wait until it ends before moving on.  Speaking of Lewis, while he didn't win any big games as the HC, he never had Burrow & Chase.  They probably would've been a 14-15 win team since Marvin is one of the best defensive minds in the sport

In the offseason when Daboll was hired, I remember being certain that the Giants job was by far the worst open coaching position of that offseason, as the roster and team structure was so far away from being competitive. And then they had that surprising playoff season right off the bat. Which was fun for their fans I'm sure but perhaps it was the worst possible thing that could have happened to the Giants as it led them to extend Daniel Jones and treat him like an actual franchise QB when by now we can all agree that he was not and he was never going to be one.

Just looking from the outside, I still think Daboll is a good coach, and that the organization screwed him more than vice versa. I could be wrong, though. Were I the Patriots and if he were available, I'd certainly at least interview him.

The annual tradition of people getting kicked out over the days & weeks following the end of the season continues with the 2024 Titans general manager no longer in that role for Tennessee

Followed by Antonio Pierce.

Before speculating & assuming the GM's fate, no changes there in Las Vegas.  A reversal for the off-season change in Tennessee.

Same high school as Barry Bonds and Lynn Swann. They televised his games. So annoying.

They did the same for LeBron.  Of course at the time both the Cavs & Browns sucked, so it was easier to be proud of the new shiny bright thing.

never understood firing a coach after one season.

I agree esp since they never gave Pierce a chance w/o a viable QB.

To be honest, I don't think Vegas should have removed the interim tag.  The Raiders sort of had to as people like Crosby loved him.  It was a breath of fresh air after what they had to go through in 2023.  Unlike Kansas City in 2011-2012, this one made sense since he was a great leader.

It sucks for Antonio but right now I don't know if he's ready, but I think he has a better chance to excel elsewhere.  The situation was through no fault of his own.  I think in an easier division with either a decent QB or offensive coordinator he'll be fine as a head coach.  Right now, that's not the case without those.

Pete Carroll was dismissed after one year.  I think Pete did okay over most of the 3 decades that followed his New York stint.  Also, it's the Raiders.  The number of people that they've dismissed exceeds the Cowboys playoff win total going back to a time not too long ago.  In addition, it's a division with Reid & Mahomes, Harbaugh & Herbert, and Payton & Nix.  Might be best off resetting since it's take more than a minute to win there.

Tom Brady can have all the success he wants as well as an input.  It wouldn't be a total surprise if, within the AFC West and after the 2025 NFL Draft, the first (head) coaching change made is by the Las Vegas Raiders.

That's two of them. Brady 1 catch, 6 yards.

Rice 185 catches for 2509 yards, 12 TDs for the Raiders and Seahawks(?!)

Two more players, who combined caught two passes for a combined zero yards. One is a Hall of Famer, the other happened this year.

Didn't Favre catch a pass when he was with the Vikings, in some gadget play?  I have some vague memory of this, although it may be some other QB I'm remembering.

I'm guessing a QB or maybe a player in a fake FG/punt situation?

Yes, I'm thinking the other two were not considered receivers but caught the ball on a trick play of some sort.

Or let the Rams decide where to play the game.  Something New Orleans was allowed to do before they decided to host Green Bay in an early season game in Jacksonville.  Either way, I'm not sure why wait to do something when it's pretty apparent that you're going to do something.

Not that the powers that be understand, but it is still just a game, played by people, who are more important than the game and are required for the game to take place.

The contingency plan is to move it to Phoenix.  I agree, just announce it now.  There's no reason a big event like this should take place in LA with what's happening there.

I would have guessed Marcedes Lewis because I know he's been in the league forever, but I misunderstood your earlier post @Fukui San.  I thought you meant the two players other than Brady and Rice had the totals you mentioned for their entire career.

Another fire just broke out- that is at least four in the Southern California region already. It’s all a freaking mess out here right now and resources such as police do not need to be diverted for this game. I agree moving the game is the right thing to do and the fans that want to drive the 6 hours can do so, or try to find hotel rooms ahead of time.

Stay safe @twoods and @Bastet! Hopefully the fires will stay far from you. ❤️

That is so kind of you, thanks!  I'm in between two, but doing okay so far.  I know people who've lost homes, and this is far from over; the scope is devastating, and I think everyone feels under "Where next??" siege here.

The area in which SoFi stadium is located will all but certainly be fine in terms of not being threatened by fire, so just in terms of that specific location it would come down to air quality (all this smoke on top of our usual crap) by Monday, but Inglewood doesn't exist in a bubble -- we have four active fires, zero percent contained, in the greater Los Angeles area, and one of them just 15 miles away is the most devastating the county has ever seen.  Tying up resources, traffic, water usage, etc.  Is that worth whatever revenue a playoff game would bring to the city?  If you're going to move it to AZ, say that now.

And I love how the Chargers pledged $200,000 to relief efforts.  That's like me saying I'll toss a quarter in this bucket.  We'll see what the Rams donate.

That's exactly what it feels like.  I'm in the flats of North Hollywood and am OK at the moment, too, but there is that feeling of "where's the next one going to be?" in the back of the mind.  The wind dying down (finally) is the most important first step to starting to get control over these blazes, but it's been just terrifying and insane in its suddenness, unpredictability, and speed.

I also want to say that while it's been a very scary day-plus and will probably be scary for another few days, it's vital to remember that the fires will eventually be extinguished, and we will get through this and rebuild/recover.  Together.

Deshaun Watson retore his achilles.   Had surgery again.

My first thought - who was he assaulting when it happened.

My second thought -- GOOD.   Now reach an injury settlement and dump him.  (under the CBA you can't just release an injured player which is in general a good provision but in this one, just slows things down to dumping that stupid, stupid, stupid contract).

I came here to post this.

Karma or something is telling Cleveland you made a huge mistake.

Looks like a double-jinx, I think.

I figured someone would've posted long before now, but after several hours, I saw nothing.  Plus, I had already typed the content, with a source that confirms the story.

With bluegirl147, merylinkid & I posting pretty much simultaneously, I guess there's no reason to add any thoughts to it.  I pretty much echoed those, and I guess I'm sick over talking about the guy.  Looks like the league & I may never have to ever again.

BTW, bluegirl, I think it's less Karma & more tradition from the Cleveland Browns with that decision they made in 2022.

Gee, I wonder how the Chargers are going to mess it up today. Hopefully for those clowns, it won't be as epic as that choking vs Jacksonville a couple of yrs ago (choking away a 27-0 halftime lead). BTW, that game will also be shown on Nickelodeon today, so there another reason to tolerate the Chargers possibly throwing that game away today against the Texans.

Man, I really, really hope that the Chargers do not "mess it up today".  Because if they do, there's no reason to continue the AFC side of the playoffs.

Usually Harbaugh run teams don't botch things in an epic way.  Usually it's the opposite.  When it happens it's usually against the very best.  So I think Los Angeles will be fine, but it still is the Chargers.  If they do crumble, I'll feel free to advance Kansas City to their 3 consecutive Super Bowl.  No reason not to pencil them in before any other games come & go.

Steelers- Ravens on the other hand is going to be brutal.   Just a slugfest (possibly literally)

Until proven otherwise, both will be confirmed.  However, more one sided (and not in favor of Pittsburgh); this isn't the 2004-2014 era Steelers/Ravens where it was just that.  However, the weather isn't great so who knows.  It's not going to matter whether it's close or not sadly (when it comes to winning and losing).  Which is the case in the playoffs, obviously.

There are no ties in the playoffs.   So someone from the Chargers-Texans game will advance.   And that's all I am going to say about that game.

I should mention that the Chargers advancing could still result in Kansas City as a Super Bowl bound team.  It's just that (IMO) Houston winning basically gives the Chiefs yet another week off to prepare for a game against a better team.  Should the Bolts escape, that would result in KC finally facing a division opponent in the postseason for the first time in the Mahomes Era.  It should be a more competitive, physical game, which might give the Bills/Ravens winner a break (and a chance) playing a sort of wounded Chiefs team.

For your information: For Super Bowl purposes, should Detroit advance on the NFC side, the only way the league can have something that's happened four times since 1966 is for Houston to advance on the AFC side.  That last part is not happening so there will be a chance next year unless the Lions win 2 more games.  Still, I'd love to see a new team win even if it means one of the 2 have been to the Super Bowl in the past.

No they just cheat.

Might help offset "questionable" calls that favor Kansas City

I have never had a problem with the Chargers going all the way back with Dan Fouts but I can't root for them as long as they have Harbaugh.  Just like I can never root for Denver as long as they have Sean Payton.

Looks like you might need to root for Houston (or simply the NFC winner) for the best satisfaction at the end of the 2024 NFL season
