Way to still be on commercial break when the Giants score a TD, FOX.  It may be my last chance to see them in the end zone, and you blew it.

So now we're out Jones as well as Barkley (not to mention the players out coming into the game).  Good grief.

Explain to me in any other world than JerryWorld that the helmet-to-helmet on Daniel Jones wasn't called.

I was wondering if it had been called since the penalty is half the distance to the goal line and that would only be a few inches. If it wasn't called, I guess it was for the same reason the refs did not call the helmet to helmet against Kansas City for head butting a Cleveland player in the end zone during the playoffs.

Doesn't seem like it since after they missed the TD in commercial, they casually mentioned that the Giants had scored on fourth down.

Crosby is having a nightmarish day.

Yeah.  Spec on the radio is that he's getting a little skittish because his game winning FG against San Fran was so close to getting blocked.  And then there was the block which was returned for a TD (that was called back) against Pittsburgh. Both from the same side.

His hair was black when the game started.

If the Giants can drag this out, on a commercial flight I can be to Dallas in four hours to fill in for some of their injured players.

Zeke Elliott just displayed EGREGIOUS taunting and should be flagged 30 yards.

You mean the way he "ran" into the end zone? I agree. And a Giants defender almost got him.

Shouldn't that be an interference call on the Dallas guy knocked down Toney and lay on top of him?

YES

I can read the writing on the wall so I am getting this out ahead of time - FUCK the Cowboys.

And that should just about do it.  Dallas probably wins with a healthy Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones anyway, but such is life

Gronk is not cute in those USAA commercials.

I was thinking the same thing!  Way to look entitled, dude.  Baker Mayfield, on the other hand, rocks his Progressive at home commercials!  His newest Halloween one is adorable.

Mason Crosby is such a good guy, so I was happy that last one went through.  He looked so relieved.  Even though I was rooting for the Pack all the way, I did feel for the Cincinnati kicker who was celebrating what he thought was the game winner in OT which went wide left.  After the game, he said he thought the officials "were playing a game with us" when they signaled no good, because he felt he kicked it well and was confident it was going through.  Oh honey, really?  Because the officials decide to play games like that all the time?

Dallas should not feel good about themselves since they beat up a bunch of second stringers.  Fuck them.

Maybe it'll be Dallas' year.  If Buffalo keeps cruising, then that's might be their ticket.  The problem is Buffalo's other "foe" is Brady, who, I believe, it undefeated against Dallas.  Rodgers is too, in the most meaningful games

The Gronk commercials are so terrible if you take it at all at face value. A multimillionaire trying to scam his way into insurance meant to help veterans. What?

Oh, but his delivery of "But I'M special!" cracks me up every time.

Nothing about Baker Mayfield is adorable.  He can't help but radiate "smarmy douche" even when squirting nacho cheese into trick-or-treaters' bags.

Gronk's issue is that he's just...a few fries short of a Happy Meal.  If it's possible to speak out loud like you're reading with your finger, he manages to accomplish that.  I mean, I still would tooooootally hit that, but I would haaaaaaate myself in the morning.

I can't stay up for the rest of the Bills/Chiefs game, but it's been quite a game. Halftime was an hour and ten minutes because thunder and lightning rolled into the area. Buffalo is ahead, just got another touchdown, and the score is now 38-20.

The announcers are saying Mahomes has been off-target tonight. He's probably thinking too much about his Patrick rate.

Chiefs play Packers later this season. So will it also be a battle of rates commercials? Rodgers with his garage band and Mahomes working in the shoe store?

Something was definitely screwy on that play. I was in the car, listening to the Giants' radio feed on Sirius, and they did about the same thing. Jones went down and off the field, and they went to a commercial during the time out. When they came back, the play was underway, with them calling the receiver in the end zone for the score - I even rewound and listened again to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

I seriously thought I was hallucinating or completely missing the point USAA was going for the first time I saw that commercial. Does anyone involved in that ad think it's a good look at all? Yikes. I wonder how that spot got approved and why Gronk's people thought it was a good idea.

It seemed clear to me when I watched it that that "But I'M special!!1!" line was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek and intended to poke fun at himself, but Gronk can't...I mean, he just...he clearly doesn't take himself seriously (which I like about him), but he canNOT deliver a scripted line with any kind of humorous nuance because the elevator doesn't go all the way up.  I'm not even sure it goes halfway up.  My physical attraction to him is one of my least favorite things about myself.  Basically:

But, really, my brain gets angry at me.

The FOX announcers blamed it on the officials, saying they lost track of the break and resumed play too early.  If the same thing happened on radio, that makes sense.

Not a football commercial, but I see it while watching football:  I hate the Red Bull commercial where the deer only has to outrun his buddy to keep from being slaughtered by the lion.  Yeah, circle of life and all that, but...  did they really think the image would make me want to buy their product?

Being a long time Bucs fan, I really didn't know much about Gronk until he came to play for the Bucs.  Having seen some of his interviews and his hilarious videos with Tom Brady where they're sitting around answering questions from their fans, he comes across as a happy-go-lucky, goofball kind of guy.  I think he has a good heart too.  I thought the commercial was funny.  I can see where it might've missed the mark with people who aren't really familiar with him though.

Also, Gronk talks very lovingly about his Mom, so that made me like him even more!

The best description I've ever heard of Gronk was something like if there is a patron saint of meatheads, it's Gronk. And I generally like Gronk, but that is oh so accurate.

Though I will confess that when I read about how he likes playing in Tampa Bay because he gets to hang out with his mom (who lives like 2 hours away in FL) on Mondays, my heart melted a little.

He's probably a lot smarter than he lets on.  Kind of like how Terry Bradshaw is.  I don't think Bradshaw made most of his money in the NFL (if I'm remembering that correctly), but with his business ventures since then.  I watch his reality show, and damn, he's got a really nice ranch with a lot of land.   He has a donkey named Snoop Donk!  His personality reminds me of Gronk.

Actually to be fair, Gronk has been rather smart with his money.  Apparently he has not touched his signing bonus or salary.  Instead, he's lived off of endorsement deals.  This may have changed in time (if so, he needs to go back to what he was doing), but he's been better than at least most of the other players in the league

This is the New York Times article about the newest emails. After reading quotes from the emails I see why it was a "gots to go" situation, even for Mark Davis.

And. . .

Quote

Taken together, the emails provide an unvarnished look into the clubby culture of one N.F.L. circle of peers, where white male decision makers felt comfortable sharing pornographic images, deriding the league policies, and jocularly sharing homophobic language.

I'm sure Goodell is on the case.

Yeah, I just heard this too.  Apparently there were many over the course of a long period, and included homophobic language as well.

Hubby & I thought he’d be censured, but I imagine once more came to light, he probably lost the locker room and was toxic to the organization.

You know, people saying it was a decade ago, or these were private conversations probably need to take a deep breath, grab a drink, and shut up.  That's based on everything and not just a personal, awful comment toward Mr. Smith.  And it is awful enough.

The fact is, whether it's 2011, 2006, or this time in 2001.  It was wrong then.  Just because something occurred a long time ago doesn't make it right.  If that had come to light by anyone back then, they'd be done, back then.

It's a shame, as much as it isn't.  I actually thought Jon was alright on television.  His players didn't really care for him that much.  Until now, Gruden would have been alright to have a drink with while watching film and talking football.  The guy was very knowledgeable.  Obviously I wouldn't waste a second of my life having a drink with that man.

While Jon Gruden couldn't undo what he did, and while no one's going to confess to that stuff, maybe don't post that stuff in the first place?  No one's perfect, but man, when people get offended by things that are truly offensive, then, I'd probably respect it and listen to those individuals.  Otherwise, that's the end for some perpetrator, or in this case, a former Head Coach that won with Tony Dungy's players and didn't build off of that going forward.
