iMonrey November 10 Share November 10 I would have done just as badly on Pop Stars. I haven't followed current popular music since the early 90s. But, I would never have allowed myself to be talked into challenging that category. I might have done less poorly on Disney Characters - I know the usual classic ones but I'm not up to speed on the more current ones. I'd have gotten at least some of them though. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8503744
Taeolas November 11 Share November 11 Yup, Popstars (and any "recognize this person" category in general) I would avoid like the plague. Especially if I'd be going against a time boost to boot. I'd be like the other guy that night who said "I'll let someone else take on Popstars and just wait until that whale category has a better theme." THinking more on Strategires, I think if I was a whale, I'd probably stay up long enough to get a time boost... and I'd be working to better protect my territory. The way to do that would be to nibble away at the 1-square categories around me, preferably in the directions closer to the edge of the floor. One-square categories are randomizer targets so they're more likely to be able to challenge me. If I can reach the edge of the floor, then that's an edge that I won't be challenged on, so it's a way to minimize my threat profile. If I have another whale against me, we can become a pod together and go after the smaller fish around us. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8504695

Taeolas November 11 Share November 11 True but the category was IIRC, "Pop STARS" not "Pop Music". "Pop Music" I would expect to be more akin to Name that Tune, possibly even an audio category like musical instruments was (that was a fun one. I got most of those ones). "Pop Stars" I'd avoid because I may recognize some of the songs and maybe artists, but I'd have no idea what they look like. So safer to leave them alone. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8504714

iMonrey November 14 Share November 14 You really need to FF thru the intros of these episodes, because not only do they spoil who's going to get picked this week but it even spoiled that Virginia would ultimately become a comp beast. Although I don't think she'll last 'til the end, she answers too slowly. 5 hours ago, Lovecat said: Oof, state capitols was brutal! This kind of points out how a lot of the categories are just assigned to random people rather than chosen by the contestants as an area they really have expertise in. He admitted he hadn't studied the states that way, and he wouldn't have had to study at all if this was something he already was an expert at. And if I had been assigned that category I would definitely have memorized the map because that's exactly what I would expect to see up on the screen. iMonrey November 21 Share November 21 DIY was laughably simple. I knew Virginia wouldn't last that long. She's good, but she's a little too slow. The brain just doesn't work as fast when you get older. Trust me. Puppies was tougher than I thought. It's harder to tell the breed when they're puppies. I also thought the puppy Irish Setter was a Cocker Spaniel because that's what it looked like. Skylines and Female Athletes were both tough. I knew almost none of the latter, and the challenged person lost on their own categories (as did the New York guy). Which speaks to how much of an "expert" these people really are in their categories. I would have failed Alternative Music, I knew none of them. World History wasn't too bad but hard to do fast when you have to read the copy and look at the date. Animal sounds was fun. I can't believe Austin forgot it was his turn. That would be my fear if I went on this show. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8514018

"Accessories" sounds like a pretty easy category, and it would have given her a time boost. What happens when they run out of people who've not yet been randomized? Aren't there only four left? How do they choose who goes after that? How much time do they get between episodes to "study" categories they inherited? I would have sucked at Girl Groups, R&B and Hockey. GameJayAnalysis December 7 Share December 7 (edited) Quote What happens when they run out of people who've not yet been randomized? Aren't there only four left? How do they choose who goes after that? There are two left because of the last duel(Game show hosts - Daniel Avila) and british invasion. There are lots of international versions, here is how they explain it. If everyone has played, everyone is eligible to be picked. We will see the full details next week(like if you can be randomized after going back to the floor, or if this is even true for the US version, or how they wanna do it). On 12/5/2024 at 12:09 PM, TAG42481 said: if you knock off somebody who has 50 squares then you get knocked off by the end of the night, you walk away with nothing? LAME. It's the reason EVERYONE just goes back to the floor and doesn't want to change anybody. Once you have a time boost, there's no reason to keep playing unless you think you can win 20k(by overtaking the leader). In the early episodes, this was doable. People kept playing because of the two sides of the floor both having big turf(but like 5 to 10 pieces, not crazy amounts), and people easily winning 20k or being able to avoid the randomizer more often(Julie Ann). Someone like Kara simply carved her own path to 20k easily. However, since Virginia merged the two big pieces, anybody can win one duel and take the 20k. Most people recognize the fact that "at the end of the night" is the only strategy because it's too risky to have to fend off single squares who don't like their neighbors. As we saw with Jeremy/Danny, it can sometimes work if you have a time boost/bluff enough. The leading player only has one choice: Hope people play for 250k or pick their poison. I do agree that whales have it BAD, but they do have an out by getting rid of single squares with no neighbors. But that takes guts. Then again, everyone knowing how bad being a whale is kinda prevents them for going for it. But some people have no choice(I.E single squares all alone) I actually support going back to the floor because it forces new players to come out. Then, the game actually changes for the better in the second half because everyone has played at least one duel, unlike last season where the majority of people left didn't even play until the finale. Also hi new here. Edited December 7 by GameJayAnalysis 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8526979

I recognized almost every single one of the stand-up comedians but couldn't come up with their names quickly enough. Same with news personalities. I recognize the faces but often draw a blank on their names. If I were Kevin, I would have gone back to the floor after winning the third duel and the time boost. With only one more duel to go, the chance that someone would have challenged him with his time boost was pretty slim. But I guess it worked out for him. Period table is still standing there like the sword of Damocles. They keep talking about "studying" and I wondered how long they get between episodes. What I found online is that they film two episodes per day, so they have only overnight and the next morning to study categories they inherited, or categories around them. Lantern7 December 13 Share December 13 Curious . . . did anyone reading this visit the site about becoming a contestant? I think it'd be too much for me. I'd spend my time waiting either drinking water or visiting the restroom often. 14 hours ago, iMonrey said: They keep talking about "studying" and I wondered how long they get between episodes. What I found online is that they film two episodes per day, so they have only overnight and the next morning to study categories they inherited, or categories around them. I would think they'd be sequestered like members of a juror, with no communication with the outside world . . . Internet access included. I'd give Periodic Table a try. You just have to remember elements with symbols that aren't derived from English. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8531557

This show often uses pictures, so I wonder if they'll use pictures or the abbreviated terms, will they show the number? I could see it being hard with the element letters for some but that's the game. Then again, if they use pictures, they better be accurate to avoid any judging mishaps... By the way if Angie wins the season I think it would be a weird yet ok ending. It would prove the time boost is a legit tool for defense but only delays the same strategy of hiding. If you're not the biggest piece on the floor, having a time boost keeps you super safe. We had to bring in duplicate outfits and they would wash them for us in between episodes. Sadly not filmed at the same pace as airing, standing on that floor for 8-10 hours was rough!" I bet it was rough! And there were a number of older people there. I'm 69 and can walk for miles but I can't stand for more than 10 minutes, so I guess I'm out! Same I walk like crazy but same standing still would do me in. I noticed most were wear of athletic shoes . TVMovieBuff Thursday at 02:11 PM Share Thursday at 02:11 PM I am only about 3/4 through season 1, but I'm hooked. Anyone think Joey was a twit? Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8536669

I don't even remember the name of the person who won the most recent season, and that aired LAST NIGHT. But yes, whoever Joey is, he's probably a twit. 1 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8536731
iMonrey Thursday at 05:17 PM Share Thursday at 05:17 PM So it basically did come down to the periodic table in the end (and I actually knew more of them than I thought I would). It really pays to have a tough category nobody wants to challenge, and Keelan just basically stood there all season until the end. I was 50/50 on accessories, based on a true story, lab equipment and Shakespeare. I didn't know ANY of the sneakers. Guess I'm not a shoe person. And I recognized almost all the game show hosts, but names are tough. I know them but it's hard to come up with the name quickly. I sucked at CEOs too. Right out of the gate, Jayna made a huge mistake challenging national parks instead of going back to the floor and defending her own category, because nobody wanted to challenge Shakespeare either. I would have sucked at national parks, I think I guessed maybe 2 of them. Fun show. Bring on the next season! 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8536802
Meedis Thursday at 06:23 PM Share Thursday at 06:23 PM I liked the change for the final duel to be best of 3 rounds. It seemed anti-climatic last season for the remaining person to come out of nowhere and just win one round and it's done. Looking forward to the next season. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-8536854
