  1. And why can't they see any fence when they are driving into town?

I was all intrigued with this show until Pope was magically pulled into the base of the fence.  Unless Ethan wakes up from a coma at the end of the show, it seems the "answers" will end up being supernatural mumbo jumbo without any sort of logic.

Stick with it.  I promise you this is not the case, and the explanation is wonderful.

  2. I don't think so.  I think he sends her way with Davos.  And Davos and Shireen end up where Rickon is because they need to get to a large castle quickly and safely.  Some place where Shireen can be hidden if her father loses.  I think burning his daughter is a bridge too far for Stannis.  I really do.

Is it a bridge too far for Shireen's mother?

  3. IIRC, Beverly mentioned she arrived in WP because she had a car accident, like Ethan, and that in the hospital they found out she had some problem with her brain or memory (I honestly can't remember). Considering they were about to submit Ethan to surgery for similar reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if, somehow, they mess up with people's cognition of time.

Man I love reading people's attempts at dechipering what is going on...

  4. I'm glad to hear this is based on a book that everyone seems to like, because as a previous poster said, it seems it could go either way. I enjoy all the Twilight Zone stuff going on, but the acting seems odd, as do some of the camera angles. Everything seems a bit forced and over the top. I will stick with it because its the type of show I love, I just hope it pays off.

I think once the cards are all on the table, you'll appreciate the acting more.

The only thing that doesn't fit into my original premise is the stuff with the wife and son in Seattle, but there are men there that appear to know what's going on with Ethan -- so maybe there's also a dash of 'Cabin in the Woods' with a mysterious gov't agency doing all this for some bigger ulterior purpose.

Please keep discussing your thought process, because it brings me back to a time when I was going through the same thing.

    I love the dissection.

I'm guessing you'll like the reveal, especially analyzing all the pieces that didn't fit when you were thinking this through.

  5. I wish they wouldn't prominently advertise "from M. Night Shyamalan."  The twists he does in his movie make me overthink them and inevitably end up disappointed.

I think in this case its actually a benefit to try and overthink what is going on.  Having M Night attached as a director doesn't change much, because from the beginning you know something weird is up, and there is something to "figure out" in this show.

From the first episode (even the trailers) its clear that there is something strange going on in this Town, and figuring out "the twist" is solving the mystery of what's going on.

When I read the first book, without knowing anything about it, I absolutely loved the journey you go on, and all the clues that are given along the way, and I was thrilled by the explanation at the end.   It all eventually makes some sort of sense.   And I loved the explanation.

I like stories like this one (and Vanilla Sky and Fight Club, for example) where you're following a trail of bread crumbs, and about two minutes before the reveal I say to myself "What the f*&% is going on here!?", and then whole mystery that was making no sense a minute ago unravels before you.

That's how the first book of the Wayward Pines series was for me, which I think takes you through the first 5 episodes of the show.

  6.

My guess is that this is all in Ethan's head and this show is a poor man's version Twin Peaks crossed with the movie 'Identity' that starred John Cusack.

Having read the books, I really enjoyed reading your synopsis.    I love story lines like this, where while I'm reading/watching, I'm trying to piece together what is going on from the clues I have been given.

Your train of thought is exactly what I remember going through.

The answer (IMO) is greater than you can imagine, and you're looking at all the right pieces, but haven't come to the right conclusion yet.

I love the books, and I hope I enjoy the show even though I know the answers to all the questions you're puzzling through.

My advise is to keep watching.  Avoid spoilers at all costs, and enjoy the ride.

  7. Is it me or does James Van Der Beek's character unnecessarily rough up every suspect he comes in contact with?

Half the time they are detaining people who are being framed, or are unwitting participates to the crime, and he smacks these people around like they're murderers.

Acurate portrayal of a cop I guess...

  8. Among tonight's many eye-rollers, hai karate master Beth-Michelle knocked Ray out for a couple of seconds about six different times and managed to sprint all of four feet before he nabbed her again. But I guess if she'd taken a page from Detective Olivia Benson's book and just bashed his head in with a chair, there'd be no opportunity to bring him back from his fake death by incineration.

    I still liked it, though!

    This was driving me CRAZY!

I understand that the average captive in this circumstance might panic and run the second their kidnapper is down, but Beth is trained in martial arts, and a cop.   Once that psycho hit the mat she should have kept hammering his skull until she was sure he was going to stay down.

At one point she actually knocks the guy down with a heavy metal fire poker, she then decides to throw the poker to the ground and run for the door.

Come on!   That's just lazy/poor writing.

  9. Disagree. Theaters are filthy and overpriced for what little they deliver. Rather watch the series and read the reviews of the movies while socializing in more pleasant places.

    Filthy?   Where do you live?

I understand that some people may feel its overpriced, but $15 to go to see Avengers in IMAX 3D is worth it to me.   I absolutely love going to the movies in theaters.

My local theater is kept very clean, has reserved seating, and is a pleasent all around experience.

  10. So what's the big deal about boobs?  I mean, did we really need to see the ones we saw?  It's literally just for titillation.  But the thing is... it's not 1987 anymore and HBO was the only place where you could see nudity without having to pay another human for a movie or magazine.  Two seconds of googling and there's all the boobs anyone could ever want.  Now, I'm not a prude or anything.  I just don't get what the big deal is about nudity in this day and age.

It's not even sexual nudity in the show, so it's literally boobs for boobs' sake.

There was some partial male nudity, but... Ok, I read this great essay last year about how even the nudity that straight women might like is still shot for a male audience.  So we get Loras and whats-his-name, but it wasn't exactly hot for me. Throwing in a few naked male bums seems to be trying to throw a bone (so to speak) to straight female viewers, but they're not done in the same erotic, loving, almost pervy way the naked ladies are done for the straight guys.  I don't know. I just... the sex on here just seems to be so much like that SNL skit with the 13-year old boy behind the camera.

I don't agree with your complaint.

Nudity is part of life.  I have no complaint about the amount of nudity they showed this episode.

It fits with the story line, and quite frankly, makes it more realistic to me.

  11. Is there a definitive reason as to why Saul went into hiding at the end of Breaking Bad? He was a lawyer for criminals, not a criminal himself. Am I missing something obvious?

Whoa.  Regardless of the reasons why Saul went on the run (i.e. fear of being killed), what Saul did as an attorney was insanely criminal.

He was not just a "lawyer for criminals" he was a "criminal himself", as you put it.   Just to name a few off my head, he was laundering insane amounts of money, he was arranging for criminals to disappear (both geographically, and mortally), he was helping his clients buy business to serve as a front for drug dealing operations, etc.

If Saul is how you think a "lawyer for criminals" is allowed to operate under the law, you need to stop watching so much TV.  ; )

  12. Its pretty obvious (at least to me) that the agenda is to get James voted in.

I agree with this assessment 100%.  It almost seems like production is now TELLING them who will be kept.

Although, the more Jeremy talks, the more crazy he seems as well.  But James seems more volatile.

And, boy, that yellow table and one green wall have REALLY changed the way I percieve the show!

  13. I guess James is claiming he has farming experience, including experience dealing with cows and chickens.  And he also says he knows about things like canning.  Which, if so, good.  Hopefully it won't turn out to be like Bri's "experience."

And on another note...  I feel kind of squicky about posting this, but I can't help myself.  I may have issues.

Rob did an AMA on Reddit (it's linked to in the media thread).  He stated that at one point, Cal offered to blow him, and he politely declined.  He also stated that Cal offered to blow Josh (and Josh declined).

    [singing]This is Blowtopiaaaaa[/singing]

Again, to believe that, you have to believe that Rob is a reliable source.

I, for one, would take anything Rob reports with an entire planet of salt.

  14. Taylor and Aaron were hoping for "2 hot chicks."  Aaron asked Taylor why, as he's getting "more loads" than anyone else there.  Taylor said not really, and he thinks that before the end of 2 weeks, Hex and "old guy" (Josh) will hook up.  Aaron said no way, she knows how Josh is.  Taylor said "she knew how I was too, and it didn't stop her.  My story wasn't pretty."  So it sounds like soon it will be time for a round of musical beds.

If you take Taylor's opinion about Hex as valid.

Which, if you do, I have a bridge to sell you.

  15. New guys just came in.  On the feeds now.

    Two guys.  James and Jeremy.

The group is gathering at the rocks for the entrance Q&A.

James is 47, from Monroe, Loisiana.  He's a hairstylist.   He wants to make Utopia more beautiful place one person at a time.

    His Utopia is equality.

Jeremiah.  "Jeremy"  37.  Married.   Plus-Size male exotic dancer from Lansing Michigan.

Plumbing contractor.   Marine Corps vet.  Tea-partier.

    Believes in equality as well.

James brought seasonings and hair conditioner.

Jeremy brought knit caps for everyone.

Jeremy also happened to have the right tractor parts to make the tractor run.   What a co-inky-dink.

  16. I think that if the topes don't want to care for the animals, Production should take the animals away immediately, but not provide any money to the topes in exchange for them.

I understand that sentiment, but, as a resource that was there when they began the project, I wouldn't have a problem with them selling them.

  17. I don't understand how production has such a stranglehold over the Utopians about the cows.

What would happen if they just said "Production, we're no longer caring for those cows.  We're not milking them, cleaning up after them, or spending any of our money on their food.  This is our home, our decisions, and since you won't let us sell the cows, we're abandoning them.   They're your responsibility now, do something or they'll suffer and die."

What would production do?   Could the show's contract with the Utopians actually say "You have to care for the cows"?

I don't understand why they insist they have cows and chickens to care for, they clearly don't need them if you're going to let the Utopians sell to the outside world.
