  1. I've noticed a few TV shows where a girl is dating a rich guy and, just for fun, he whisks her away to either Paris or Rome for dinner.  I always wonder if these same girls always carry their passports with them, just in case, or do the passport requirements not exist in TV Land?

My husband said he wants Italian for dinner on Friday so now I'm wondering if I should get my passport renewed or will it just be our same old table at Pizza Hut.

  2. This might be just a local commercial but it's driving me crazy.  I think the name of the company is We Buy Any Cars.  It starts with a bunch of men singing out "We Buy Any Cars" three times in a row.  Then they screech that out again and again.  It always seems a little louder than the other ones too and I can't reach for the mute button on my remote fast enough.  I get it.  You'll buy any car.  Now shut up!  Our local stations have it on during every commercial break too.

  3. I've watched the first two episodes on Peacock and I like it.  The older version was my favorite show back in the day so I was prepared to hate this but I found it charming.

One character I'd love to see them bring back is John Astin's character.  "I'm much better now!". He turned out to be Harry's father so he would be Abby's grandfather.  Astin is still alive however he's also 92 years old so I'm not sure he'd be up to it now.  His last acting job was in 2017.

  4. I can't believe no one else has mentioned the commercial for Traeger Grills.  In this one a young girl is slowly walking out of the bathroom looking down at something while her young man paces in the kitchen.  He looks at her and she nods yes and then he say he's going to call his parents.  What she's looking at is her phone because evidently the grill has called to say the brisket is ready.  I don't know why but this one drives me crazy.

Another one that drives me nuts is a commercial usually shown late at night where they're trying to convince people that someone could easily take over your house without you even knowing about it so you need to buy their insurance right this very minute or else!   I hate that one because it seems like they're preying on older people and trying to scare them to death.

I'm older but I'm not stupid!

Do you have Paramount+? Because it’s free for people who have that. Otherwise, no.

I do but I watched it on Amazon last week.  I also have an Amazon Prime membership.

It was on Prime, but it doesn't look like it is right now. The only options it shows there for me are to buy it or watch it on the Paramount+ add-on.

I can still watch it on Amazon Prime. without buying or renting it.  I live in North Carolina.

  7. I think they should dump Ken and Amy as hosts and bring in Billy Crystal instead.  Not only would he look mahvelous but he could do the accents like Alex used to do! From what I've seen he's not been too busy lately either.

I live in an "affluent" county north of NYC. Basically a bedroom community for people who work in NYC or in our suburbs.

I have now (in the last hour or so) seen four ads for Tractor Supply. They are saying that they are here for folks with feed, who are raising corn, cattle, and horses, or something like that.

Wow, what a serious waste of money!

I live in the country in North Carolina and there is a Tractor Supply about a mile away from my house.  I've never seen one of their commercials!  Maybe the ad agency needs to study a map.

  9. I was watching some British show on BritBox the other night and one of the actors was Derek Jacobi.  He played Jackson Hedley on the episode "The Show Must Go On" which is one of my favorites.  He, of course was excellent in the British show but all I could think about was how he'd take those long, noisy, gasping breaths before saying his lines as Jackson Hedley.  He really was a wonderful actor to be able to play that part so well on Frasier.

I have always been amazed at how many TV pregnancies are diagnosed by the mother to be passing out.  I have practiced OB for going on 40 years, have delivered thousands of babies and have yet to see syncope (fainting spell) as a symptom of pregnancy.

When I was a little girl my mom always watched the soaps.  Whenever one of the actresses would faint she'd always say, "I wonder who the father is?".  That was always how they announced that the character was "expecting".  I've had three children and I never fainted when I was pregnant.

  11. I just want to thank whoever is responsible here for getting that stupid Tracy Morgan  commercial off the air!

Last week I wrote about how much I despised that commercial and I haven't seen it since!  You guys are great.

Now!  Let's talk about the Limu Emu (with Doug) commercials.  I hate those too.

What I find even more amazing is when they leave they just close the door. No locking.

There was an episode in Friends where Chandler was moving in with Monica.  She makes a small production of giving him a key to the door and he mentions he appreciates it even though no one has actually locked the door in five years.

  13. I am seriously considering writing a letter to Santa and telling him if he will somehow convince all the networks I watch to quit showing Tracy Morgan's current commercial I will never ever, cross my heart and hope to die, ever ask for anything else.  This commercial is on every single commercial break and sometimes they show it twice during one commercial break!  I didn't like it the first 500 times I watched it and I hate it even more now.

btw, while I was writing this it came on again.  Nooooooo!

  14. I'm sure someone else has brought this up but I'm going to mention it anyway.

One of our local stations shows the Tracy Morgan commercial for The American Rescue Plan at least twice during every single commercial break.  It was mildly amusing at first but now I'm getting a little stabby after seeing it so much.  I've started hitting the mute button on my remote when they go to a commercial break because they also show Mike Lindell advertising his My Pillow constantly.  If I buy one of his pillows do you think he'd go away?

  15. I asked my doctor if anyone ever came into his office and requested a medication they'd seen on TV.  He said it happens occasionally but after he tells them the medication advertised isn't effective for their condition, plus it will cost more than double than what they're already taking, they usually let it go.  If they still insist on it he tells them to find another doctor. He also hates it when people come in and say they have a disease they saw on WebMD.

When I first started out as a nurse it wasn't unusual to have drug reps come in and give us all pens, coffee cups, small stuffed toys, etc.  Of course all of these had the drug name they were pushing printed on them.

I don't know what product it is for, but I loathe the one where the waitress collapses in the diner.

I absolutely hate this commercial so it's nice to see that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I'm a retired ER nurse and while I have helped a few people who were choking in restaurants where I was eating I would never have taken the time to go on and on like this waitress does. I'm also not really sure what they're advertising which, in my opinion, makes it a total miss.

  17. "Merry Christmas Mrs. Moskowitz" is also one of my favorite Frasier episodes.

I loved how they put sugar in the wine so it would seem more Jewish.

  18. I realize a lot of people here like Ken Jennings.  I'm not one of them.

In 2014 he tweeted, "There's nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair".  Then this genius tweeted out, "It can't be a coincidence that every fan who has seen the new Star Wars movie has died."  He wrote this in response to the news that a Star Wars  Super Fan,  Daniel Fleetwood, had just died of cancer. He was the first person to view, "The Force Awakens" and Jennings seemed to think this was funny.

There are a lot of others out there but some are too tasteless to post here.  Of course he apologized for all of them.

I've watched Jeopardy since I was a kid and Art Fleming was the host.  Back then it was on in the early afternoon and my mom would watch it every day.

Now that it sounds like Jennings will be the new host after all, (was there every any doubt?) I'm done with Jeopardy.

I had my first cataract surgery recently. I had a phone appointment for prep instructions with a nurse a week prior, including having to bathe with a certain soap that kills bacteria. The nurse told me not to use the soap on my "private parts" which totally cracked me up. My husband opined that they were using language they were sure everyone would understand. Perhaps some don't understand or know what genitalia means? In terms of the ad, perhaps they were trying not to offend. 🤷‍♀️

I hope you're doing well now that your surgery is over.

I'm a nurse and the reason we had to tell people stuff like that is because, at some point, someone has done it already.

I was an ER nurse for years and you wouldn't believe some of the terms I had to use with some people.  I was giving a man instructions to drink only clear liquids prior to his colonoscopy.  I thought I'd made it pretty clear until he asked me if vodka was okay since it's a clear liquid.  All I could think of was some drunk man reeling around after drinking a gallon of what is basically a nuclear laxative.  I told him no vodka and he should probably just stick to water.  I told the ER doctor about his question and he went into the man's room and used stronger terms to tell him why vodka would be a very bad idea in that situation.

  20. I've decided to no longer watch Jeopardy until they get their stuff figured out.   Several of my friends have also decided to quit watching it because of all the drama.  I didn't care about who was the host except there is NO way I will watch a show with Ken Jennings as a host.  Several years ago he made some tweets that I found personally offensive.  I'm not saying he's a bad man, I just don't like him.

I watch Jeopardy for the entertainment value plus it helps me forget my problems for 30 minutes, 5 nights a week.  Now it's just become a drama filled mess with a lot of finger pointing and nasty remarks about potential guest hosts.   The fun and interest is gone.  If Mike Richards did everything I've heard he's done then he shouldn't be the host.  But surely they've had enough guest hosts by now that they could just pick one of those for the new host.  Why do another round of this?  They're not exactly looking for the next Supreme Court Justice here. I just can't watch it anymore and I think Alex Trebek would be mortified by what's happened to his show.
