  1. Vacuuming and mowing the lawn are like raking a zen garden for me. I like all the lines and stuff.  I'm weird LOL

Those are my too least favorite chores!  My favorites are cooking, washing dishes and weeding the garden.  Planting the garden is also a favorite chore, but my husband likes to tell me that is a hobby and not a chore.

  2. Naw what you have to do is to ask for help and pretend you don't understand how to do what they're trying to teach you, until they just do it for you altogether. You know, "Amelia Bedelia" it!

Little Sister:  Oh howwwwwwwww do you go grocery shopping again? Oh wait, I don't get it -- is *this* how you do it? [Terrible attempt that fails horribly].

Big Sister:  OH FFS JUST LET ME DO IT.

That sounds suspiciously close to how my husband does stuff.  Take laundry for example.  He purposely does it wrong so that he won't have to do it anymore.

  3. I see it as blue and black.  I can't see where it would be white and gold, especially as I see it as royal blue, not light blue.  It is very odd!

I think it's hilarious because so many people's first reaction is OMG YOU GUYS ARE TROLLING ME RIGHT?!

    (I know mine was :P).

I thought the idea that it was white & gold was a joke, but it turns out most people see it that way.  Crazy!

  4. I've never read any fanfic, so I don't know if these ideas have already been tossed around.

I'd like God to show up eventually.  Maybe if the series were ever to actually end.  Not to fix everything, but instead to cause some issue.  Maybe he (or more hopefully SHE) could fix Heaven, because this has gone on too long with the angels not having wings, and the souls in the veil.

I agree with everyone that it would be nice if instead of having all the conflict be internal between Sam & Dean, to have to fight something external.  And new monsters.  Perhaps mermaids, chimeras that can look human except when they are about to feed, the Valkyrie or Harpies.  It would be cool if they had to fight Medusa, because they couldn't look at her while fighting.  I'm not the most creative person out there, but these are just some thoughts I've had how to improve the show.  They could even make the Valkyrie the big bad, have them go rouge or something.  But I really want Sam and Dean working together fighting something that doesn't involve internal conflict.  Find a miracle cure for the MoC and get out on the road again fighting monsters, with the MoL bunker as a "home base" they use occasionally.

  5. Anyone who has TNT (and the time), this week's Superfan marathon is Dean's most light-hearted episodes (their words, not mine):

Free to Be You and Me

    Live Free or Twi-Hard

The Curious Case of Dean Winchester

    Dog Dean Afternoon

Clap Your Hands If You Believe

    Monster Movie

    Yellow Fever

The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo

    LARP and the Real Girl

Seriously?  Live Free or Twi-Hard is NOT lighthearted.  I could see where someone might think Yellow Fever is lighthearted, especially Dean's scream when the cat jumps out at him, but not really.  And while there are also lighthearted scenes in most of the other episodes, they aren't exactly lighthearted episodes.  I mean, there are even lighthearted scenes in Faith, but that isn't a lighthearted episode.   Are there even lighthearted episodes of Supernatural?  With the exception of maybe Monster Movie, Changing Channels and The French Mistake, I don't think so.

  6.

What are your favorite top 10-15 all time favorite non-Supernatural characters from television shows? Please include the show they are from for people like myself who don't watch a lot of recent stuff. Also I'm going to make an exception for characters that "go together" like Mulder and Scully or Olivia and Elliot. They can be listed as one if you like.

    Hmm.  Let me think.

    1.  Zoe & Wash (Firefly) I love that they're married and they're such fun characters

    2.  Helena (Orphan Black)

    3.  Lassiter (Psych)

    4.  Amy & Rory (Doctor Who) again, I love that they're married!

    5.  Willow (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

    6.  River Tam (Firefly)

    7.  Commander Worf (Star Trek:TNG  & DS9)

    8.  Helo & Athena (Battlestar Galactica) again, another married couple! and I love all the incarnations of 8

    9.  Donna (Doctor Who)

    10.  Xena (Xena the Warrior Princess)

    11. Paul Ballard (Dollhouse)

    12.  Clara (the Guild)

  7.

I don't have any children, so you should probably take this with a grain of salt, but fwiw, I think that how a kid should be dressed mostly depends on how the other kids on his street or in his class are dressed. It's fine to skimp if all the other parents are/have to, but nobody wants to be the neglected-looking child in the class!

Honestly, I think kids should dress any way they like, provided it is weather appropriate.  My son prefers to have clothes that don't match.  He actively picks out clashing colors.  Why?  I have no idea, but a few years ago I tried to get him wear matching clothes, and he refused.  Flat out refused to get out of his pajamas unless I let him wear the red with the orange (or whatever colors they were).  Of course, I didn't push it too much and let him pick out his own clothes.  He frequently looks like a thrift store reject, even though I buy high quality clothes for him due to the cheap clothes don't last long enough to make it worth it.

  8. I could never figure out how my kids managed to take out the knees in every thing they owned so darn fast.  I figured they would eventually grow out of that, but not so much.  The damage rate has slowed down (and thank goodness they stopped growing) but I noticed the younger one's  jeans on the drying rack the other day and every pair has at least one knee blown out.

If you figure it out, please let me know.  My son even has holes in the knees of his sweats and pajamas!  Not to mention the elbows of at least half his long sleeve shirts.

  9. And I'm thinking...why? My jeans got like that on accident throughout my life.  Those are the jeans that I wear for painting and change out of before going to the grocery story. Why are those jeans still a thing?  Didn't that trend come and go a gazillion years ago?

I also thought they had gone out of style a long time ago.

SueB  I shall rant right along with you.  Why are these a thing.  It's just stupid to pay *more* for something that's already partially destroyed.  And don't get me started on finding that crap in the kids/teen wear.  Kids wreak havoc on their clothing quickly enough, TYVM!

My son has holes in all his clothes.  Even his snow pants and jacket.  I'd never buy him something already ripped!

  10. I used to spot check GH in college and AMC.  DOOL started on and off again towards the end of college.  It's the only one I spot check from time to time.  And yes, really, between wikipedia and watching two or three episodes, it's pretty easy to follow the story lines.

In college, for 2 semesters, I had a break 2 days a week when AMC was on, and the common room always showed the ABC soaps.  Sometimes I'd only watch once a week, but I always knew what was going on.  This was back when James Patrick Stuart/Dick Roman was on it.  (yep, I'm that old!).  The stories moved so slow.

  11. It's insulting to this viewer that they keep doing this to Dean for laughs.

As, supposeably said, Dean is NOT a Luddite.

Stop doing this show. It's not funny.

This annoyed me while I was watching the show.  While Dean might not be up to date on the most current social network apps, he knows about the internet, and has used various apps in the past.

Count me in on the disbelief at Dean having such poor table manners.  While Dean has been shown to have an appetite in the past, and occasionally eating in a disgusting manner, it was usually with the intent to either gross Sam out, or because there was only Sam around.

I was also a bit creeped out by Dean ogling the college girls.  He's what? 36 now?  It seemed creepy to me.  Maybe guys have a different view.  If it were a 36 year old woman ogling them, it would definitely be creepy.

I was glad while Cas was mentioned a couple times, he was off screen, as was Crowley and Rowena.  I'd be perfectly happy not to see Rowena again!

I wondered because the angels were still using that backdoor at the playground, like Heaven wasn't just generally open again.

I thought the reason they had to use the back door is because they all lost their wings when they fell.

  12. Since my husband has been complaining to me that today is Tuesday, I sent him one of the gifs that shows Sam saying "Yesterday was Tuesday, but today is Tuesday, too!"  He replied that if tomorrow is also Tuesday, he'll have to stake someone, preferably someone having strawberry syrup.  Then he sent me the gif of Castiel saying "Hey, Assbutt!" and said the next coworker who annoys him is getting a Molotov of holy oil.  We have a strange relationship.

  13. I liked "Animal I've Become" for S7 Sam because the angst and the lyrics just sounded so perfect for Sam's situation to me:

    I can't escape this hell

    So many times I've tried

    But I'm still caged inside

Somebody get me through this nightmare

    I can't control myself

    ......

ItsABear, I just had to listen to NIN's "Wish" today, because apparently there was some brouhaha about Tenacious D (who I hate, personally, but YMMV) winning the metal category in the Grammys this year? I read that people had actually been fine with Nine Inch Nails winning the category back in the day despite being even less "metal" than Tenacious D, because "Wish" was just that good, so obviously I got curious. And it was really good! Maybe I need to brush off those Nine Inch Nails songs after all :) (Also, people were making fun of how not "metal" it is to be irritated by who won a Grammy, but tbh, metal has got to be the whiniest of genres, so I think it's totally appropriate!)

I wasn't familiar with Animal I Have Become until about 3 minutes ago.  Thanks!  I just bought it from iTunes.  I think it is the kind of song my son will also like.  I agree,  That would have been a good song for season 7 Sam.

I don't watch the Grammys.  They've never been particularly good at awarding the best music.  I did hear that Beck won, though.  I loved Odelay back in the day.  I didn't know he was still putting out pop music.  And I'm right there with you in the Tenacious D hate!  Jack Black has got to be one of the most annoying people ever.  He totally messes up High Fidelity, which is an otherwise great movie.

In thinking of good songs, Monster by Skillet would be good for Dean and the MoC.

  14. OK I was about to go for a run but a police chase just ended (with the fleeing guys crashing their car and getting chased down by the cops on foot) right across the street. NEVER MIND. I think that staying in here and futzing around on the internet for a few more minutes would probably be better for my health. All things considered.

Wow!  That is scary!  Yes, it is better to stay inside in that case!  Once, I was driving my son and his friend and the SWAT team was out blocking the street,  Needless to say, I took a detour to avoid it because I didn't want to have to deal with it, let alone the fact that the SWAT team was there because someone was holding hostages and already took a shot out the window at the police.

  15.

(As an aside ItsABear, your screen name is reminding me of Spike, and when I see it I hear Spike in my head saying it and then sayin "You made a Bear! Undo it! Undo it!" I have issues.)

I never thought of that.  I love Buffy, too!  My screen name comes from a joke my brother & I had as a kid with a stuffed animal.

I'm the one who liked Nora Jones.  Probably because I remember listening to her music in the middle of the night while nursing my son.  It calmed him down.  However, now almost 12 years later, he no longer wants to hear her music.  He says it is too dull.

I listened to some heavy metal as a teenager, mostly Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath.  Now I don't really like it so much.  I'm getting old.

As for the reason I don't like Closer, I think it is because I like my sex songs to be a slight bit more subtle.  That song, in my opinion, is just crude.  I listened to Pretty Hate Machine non-stop in grad school.  I'd go to the gym to get rid of my stress, and it is great for working out.  However, I hadn't listened to it in years until it recently became available at iTunes.  It wasn't there for years.

DittyDotDot, you think Sam would be a Pearl Jam fan?  I don't know.  I picture him being more into upbeat music, akin to something like Black Eyed Peas.  I don't know why.  At least for the first 2-3 seasons.

Pearl Jam is like Johnny Cash to me personally, though -- I *should* like it, and get why other people like it, and have tried hard to like it (I even own a bunch of both Pearl Jam and Johnny Cash songs) but in the end...just not my thing, I guess.

I feel the same way!  I never really liked Pearl Jam, even though I like other grunge bands.

  16. How do you feel about the Johnny Cash cover of "Hurt"? I don't like it and to be honest, it kind of ruined NIN's "Hurt" for me, because the lyrics just don't work as well imo when they're supposed to be so heavy and unironic, like how Cash sings the song. But the Johnny Cash cover seems like it *should* be good, so...?

I like NIN and Muse, but all their songs end up sounding the same to me. "Closer" and "Starlight" are huge favorites of mine but they're the only songs I listen to by those bands anymore.

Do you like MGMT? They're sorta in the same vein as Muse, I think? (If you haven't seen it before, the video for this song is really cute, too, imo).

I've never heard the Johnny Cash cover, and now I don't know that I plan on looking it up.  And the Kermit version you posted was just too strange!

Of all the NIN songs, Closer is probably my least favorite.  My favorite is probably Head Like a Hole, followed closely by Hurt.  I love all the songs on Pretty Hate Machine, though.  It reminds me of college.  I saw NIN at Lollapalooza sometime shortly after I graduated, I can't remember exactly when.

For Muse, Starlight and Panic Station are probably my two favorites.

I couldn't watch the MGMT video you posted.  The crying baby made me so sad.  My son had bad colic when he was a baby, now every time I see a baby cry, I get so emotional.

  17. I think a raison d'etre is not something you go to hell for. It always struck as more of an addiction. Not to Sam per se but fulfilling that responsibility that John saddled him with when Mary went up in flames. It ties in with his general feeling of being responsible for everything. "Everything" pretty much sums up Sam but not always.

For the parents here, could one characterize the overwhelming need to protect one's children as addiction in a sense? I'm trying to use the term as neutrally as possible. As a need that overwhelms everything, even common sense or the wishes or the well-being of the ones one feels needs protecting.

I love my son with all my heart.  I would do almost anything for him.  But if we lived in the Supernatural universe, if he died I wouldn't sell my soul to bring him back.  Maybe that makes me a bad parent, but I don't think so.  I would never burden him with that kind of guilt.

I do agree it isn't necessarily an addiction to Sam, per se.  It is a result of Dean being such the good son that even though it is 9 years since John died Dean still must carry out his order to protect Sam.  That is the addiction.

    • Love 2
  18. I'm starting to wonder if Deans addiction is actually Sam.

I don't think there is any question that Dean is addicted to having Sam around.  Look at the history, sacrificing his soul to bring Sam back, using questionable tactics to get Sam to agree to be a vessel for Gadreel, all the stuff he's done over the years to protect Sam.  No question that Dean is addicted to Sam.

  19. The length is good but I think the length is affecting how it's laying on his head. But I will say it looked during the bar scene. But other than that it's laying oddly on his head.

That's why I think it needs layers at this length.

    • Love 1
  20. That's exactly the reason. Seriously. They want the audience to discern between Sam and Dean and apparently it's the hair that makes the difference...versus you know the 4 inches of height difference and that they don't really look like brothers at all.

That is ridiculous! I know lots of guys that have the same hair style and I'm somehow miraculously able to tell them apart.  Do they really think the audience, after 10 seasons, is that dumb?  I guess they're lucky that neither of them started going bald.  But I guess we'd be able to tell them apart if one had no hair.
