  1. In her book, Jill said she wanted a lot of kids.  I'm sure if it was up to her she would have several children.  But I would think Derick might be more realistic about how many they can reasonably afford to take care of.

And why is she spelling “savoring” that way? Is she British and we never knew it? 😆

If she's British, can we send her back?

She probably thinks British spellings look fancier.  Or she is so poorly educated that she doesn't realize that's not the traditional American spelling.  It could be either of these reasons.  It's hard to say with her.

  3. My kids are 23 and 18, and they can both figure out how to read cursive.  But they don't know how to write in it except for signatures.  I had to force them to learn that much.  I'm 45 and never choose to write in cursive except my signature.  But I still know how to read and write in cursive.

And I'm a nurse at an assisted living and when the doctor or nurse practitioner come in for rounds, they write their orders in cursive still.  And then we enter them in the patient's computerized records.  I guess the doctor's don't want to take the time to learn each facility's computer program.

  4. My older daughter started wearing a watch when she was about Izzy's age.  My younger daughter didn't start until she was around 16.  My older daughter just liked knowing what time it was, so it was easier to get her a cheap watch.  As they grew up the watches got nicer.  I had a watch in elementary school, so it doesn't seem weird to me.  It's a good way to give kids some structure to their days.  Maybe it's the husbands' subtle way to get their wives off "Duggar  Time."

  5. I can definitely see how some kids would get complacent about trying to improve their speech.  And maybe Gideon would fall into that category, especially since he's probably not meeting lots of people who can't understand him.  My daughter was so frustrated when she couldn't be understood that she would eventually cry.  It broke my heart as a parent, and I really had to be an advocate to get her speech therapy.  I was told things like "It's not that bad.  It's just a few consonants.  She will outgrow it."  Umm no.  She's frustrated.  I can't picture Joy and Austin pushing to get Gideon therapy.  If they were told some of the things I heard, they would just agree because that's easier than sticking with a therapy schedule.

  6. It's really sad that these kids will never reach their potential just because their parents can't be bothered to actually parent.  Most parents WANT their children to have a better life than them.  These fundies are all about repressing these kids and dooming them to a mediocre life at best.

  7. Speaking from experience, I'm sure Joy and Austin can understand what Gideon is saying.  My daughter definitely needed and benefitted from speech therapy, but I could always figure out what she was trying to say.  I had to work as a "translator" between her and new acquaintances though.  Gideon probably isn't exposed to many strangers so Joy and Austin probably aren't aware how much help he needs.   Not that I'm defending them, but I can see how it might not be as obvious to them as others.

Well that's a bizarre tradition. Most parents count the minutes until their kids are tucked away asleep in their beds so Santa can come.

Do the Duggars do Santa stuff though?  I thought when they still had a show, they claimed they didn't do Santa stuff.  It was all about Jesus and the Bible.  Maybe I just imagined hearing Michelle claim that??

  9. I would imagine Michelle is probably more interested in the new baby than the older boys.  I picture her mostly sitting and holding Frederick and expecting Jill to get the boys ready for school.  She never took much interest in her own kids after they were a few months old, so why would grandkids be any different?
