  1. Following-up on babyhouseman's post of December 5, this article from Variety of that same date notes the return of both "My 600-lb Life" and "Where Are They Now" in the new year:

“My 600-lb Life” is back Wednesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. ET. The logline: “The series follows the journeys of morbidly obese people who turn to Dr. Younan Nowzaradan to perform high-risk gastric bypass surgery as a last-chance measure to save their lives. This season explores the emotional and physical battles of all-new patients including a paralyzed man desperate to find a way to stand, a bride-to-be fighting to finally walk down the aisle and a recovering drug addict whose life is now dominated by a new addiction: compulsive eating.”

“My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?” is back on Wednesday, April 24 at 8 p.m. ET. “Catch up with Dr. Nowzaradan’s patients from the past seasons to see how their weight-loss journeys are progressing months and even years later after their bariatric surgery. They share insights into how their life has changed and what their daily life looks like now.”

For those interested, Dr. Procter has a show on Discovery+ called Too Large.  The thread is here.  He is a bariatric surgeon treating super morbidly obese patients.

If anyone has any info on whether this will be shown on TLC and when, please let me know.  TLC - The worst channel when it comes to announcing their schedule!

As of this afternoon, the "Too Large" program is on TLC's schedule starting at 10pm on Wednesday November 10, 2021. Right after the second new episode of M600PL.

  3. For those wishing to do some catch-up or binge-watching, or just some review of favorites, all episodes of seasons 1 - 7 are currently available to watch for free on TLC's website (and via their TLC Go app for mobile devices).

    https://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/my-600-lb-life/

Don't know how long this freebie will last, possibly just until the new season starts on 1/1.

[Note that the free access is only to the regular season episodes, not to the Where Are The Now? episodes.]

  4. For those (like me) who purchased the whole season 5 of WATN on Amazon, this episode has been added to the season, as the 8th episode. Received the notification email from Amazon this morning. Planning to watch tonight!

  5. It looks like TLC is scheduled to 'tease' the new season tomorrow night, according to the info on https://www.tlc.com/schedule as of right now.

Tomorrow evening at 8pm there is a new Where Are They Now? for Tamy and Karina, followed by a 19-minute 'first look' at one of the new stories for season eight, John and Lonnie.

So, is there going to be a live chat here tomorrow evening for the new follow-up episode on Tamy and Karina?

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

This is the one day a year nearly everyone eats a 600-pounder amount of food... and the one day a year you can overeat and not feel guilty about it.

    Here, here!

Instead of my usual one meal (unemployment diet) I had two: french toast and turkey sausage for brunch, and a turkey wrap with a side of rice for dinner. Yum!

I hope everyone in the US had a nice Thanksgiving!  😘

Does anyone know how to watch the "Where are they now" episodes without such "torture,"  (Yes, I'd be willing to pay to avoid the ads).

Yes, the WATN episodes are available on Amazon, for $3 per episode. This is purchase, not rental. There is also an option to purchase a whole season, which sometimes saves money depending on the number of episodes in the season.

Here is the page; select the desired WATN season at the top:

He does stringently watch his diet EXCEPT FOR WINE, which he steadfastly refuses to accept that it's no good.  He's like an anorexic saying 90 lbs is good!.....80 even better....

So we regularly have 3:00 am crises  where his sugar drops into the 20's and I have to call firemen. He sweats, rolls on the floor and babbles, or worst of all one night burst out into choruses of "Raindrops are fallin' on my head"...

"YOU take the goddam juice!"  "YOU take the damn glucose pill...! He weighs 165, I weigh 105. What can I really do if he won't take the juice or pill?

One other option -- a shot of glucagon. That is, if you'd feel comfortable giving him an injection, and if he'd let you close enough for the jab. Just curious -- what do firemen do for a hypoglycemic episode?

They have given him injections.  Usually they stabilize him and have me make a peanut butter sandwich.  I've inquired about that, but was given no real answer, like that wasn't possible.  I should inquire again.

Most of the time these episodes can be solved in10 minutes with juice and sheepishness "I did WHAT?"  Without the drama, trauma and expense of 911.

It is so concerning, though.  You always wonder, what if I don't call and he's in real trouble, or even dies?  His sugar has been as low as 24.

I'm surprised his blood sugar is dropping so low if his only 'cheat' is drinking wine, especially if it's dry wine (not sweet). I'm diabetic myself, and with the medications I've been taking for the past several years I can no longer drink alcohol, but before that, when I took another med that did not conflict, I could have up to two drinks in a day, of something like dry wine or scotch and water -- nothing sweet. But not every day; not more than once a week.

I no longer get hypoglycemic since I switched off the med that was stimulating the pancreas to secret additional insulin. Your husband may benefit from a consultation with an endocrinologist -- if his primary care is managing his diabetes -- or checking with another endocrinologist if he already sees one. He may be able to get better control, such as by changing his med or type/amount on insulin if he injects.

You may want to check into keeping a glucagon kit at home. It's common among parents of diabetic children. Sometimes they'll have episodes during the night, and the parents will give them the glucagon shot to bring them out of it. But with a full-grown man who might become physically violent, it may not be possible for a petite woman to get in close enough to give him the shot. Here is some info on the kit:

I have joined the ranks of unemployed and looking today.  My company had a 25% reduction in force, effective immediately, since the sales have failed to pick up for three quarters...

My big issue is whether I am going to be able to stay in my current home.  There are only a couple companies in my industry within a comfortable driving distance...  crossing to a different role or a different industry is a possibility, but I am not sure that is something I would prefer over moving.   Moving back to Jersey may be an option.  Not that I regret having bought my townhouse nearly four years ago, but moving was way easier when I was a renter!  I didn't have to worry about selling, I cast a wider geographic net from the very beginning...

I keep reminding myself that I have good savings and I am getting severance for a few months, but my instinct is to cut all expenses to bare bones and frantically start applying.  I went for a walk at a nature preserve to clear my head and avoid rushing through things... I have to update my resume, for example, before I can even apply!

Please wish me luck, my fellow pounders.

So sorry this has happened to you Hellga, and I do wish you the best of luck. Your severance pay will prevent you from receiving unemployment benefits for a while (in New York) but you can go ahead and apply and the state will figure out your eligibility date. If you're lucky, you may even be back to work before then. 😊

I'm still unemployed, sixteen months now. Have applied for over six hundred jobs so far, no offers as yet.

If I can help with any info, such as good job boards to use for your search, just private message me. Hang in there, kiddo, and I hope you won't have to relocate. 🙏

Did anybody else see the Where Are They Now or whatever it's called episode about Milla and Charity?  It followed Milla for a couple more years, at the end of which she was able finally to get up and walk in a hospital corridor using some kind of specialized walker.  Dr. Now says he thinks she'll be able to walk unassisted in a year.

What I want to know is whether it was ever explained why she couldn't walk--she lost 200 lbs and still couldn't support her own weight.  Maybe her leg muscles had atrophied?  I recall a couple of other poundtestants who couldn't walk and Dr. Now was very impatient and even angry with them, telling them there was no reason they couldn't walk, they just didn't want to, all in their head, etc., but it seems to me he was always understanding about Milla's inability to walk.

Yes, I saw that episode, which aired before this one. In this episode we did learn what had been preventing Milla from walking earlier, in spite of all her weight loss. Both of her knees needed to be replaced, and she also had an issue with ligaments or tendons that made it difficult for her to straighten her legs, which I believe was resolved with physical therapy. If you have opportunity to view this episode, it should all make sense by the end.

I do agree that Dr. Now seemed to give Milla more leeway than he did to other poundticipants who had been reluctant to start walking again after their weight loss. He gave her more and lengthier stays in rehab too. When I mentioned this here back when this episode first aired, other pounders said they thought Milla received just what she needed for her situation, no more or less, which may be true -- but I still think she received a lot more than some others who had been in similar situations, who were sent home soon after surgery to do their rehab on an outpatient basis or else from home with visits from PT.

TLC's current schedule is showing another rerun for Wednesday October 2 -- Brandon's Story from Season 7. But I won't get my hopes up that this might be a harbinger for an early return of the series. . . .

I saw that! Maybe we can live chat the re-runs

According to TLC's currently-posted schedule, they will be re-running Holly's episode (season 7 episode 5) on Wednesday October 16. Anyone want to do a new live-chat on Holly?

[At this point, I doubt there will be any new episodes before January.]

Hmmm cheesy tater tot casserole from Sarah’s story.  ... not something we have over here .. but a quick google shows it as quite a staple over there .. it sounds rather nice 😳

Well, I can say that I had never heard of it (in NYC) prior to Sarah's story. I'd heard of Tater Tots, and ate them as a child, but did not know of the casserole. It might be a regional specialty. 😊
