  1. Thoughts on tonight's performances:

Brynn: A little surprised and confused that she opened tonight's show. I guess they saw the success they had with Kyla and decided to chance it with her, too.  It was a good song, and she sounded just gorgeous on it.  Probably my favorite performance of hers.  But I hope going first doesn't hurt her.

Kaleb & Pryor: Holy shit.  My ears!  This sounded like a mess.  I really hope no one would ever have expected a good performance out of them, because that was just tragic.  Surprisingly, this duet is getting a lot of retweets, which I don't understand, because it was just such a mess.

Jackie: This song took down Amanda Brown in season three.  I think that it will also take down Jackie F. (now simply known as "Jackie" with Jackie V. gone).  There were some brilliant spots in it, but I think that most of it was unpleasant.  Whitesnake was definitely the wrong choice of her, and I definitely think she might be one of the ones instantly eliminated tomorrow.

Kyla & Spensha: This was nice when they were singing individually, but I really hated the mashup whenever they sang together, because a two songs together didn't sound good at all.  For one thing, Kelsea Johnson already put "Rise Up" to bed in the Knockouts.  But individually, Kyla was good, and this was probably the most gorgeous I've ever heard Spensha.

Rayshun: This was not good.  As has been said, he was just exhausting to watch.  He just found it all over the stage again, barely seeing anything well, and I was just left wanting his performance to be over.  If this takes him out tomorrow, I will be so thrilled.

Spensha: This was just okay to me.  Mary Sarah from season ten and Casi Joy from season twelve both did it better than Spensha did.  Still, with Blake so obsessed with her, she might make either the finale right away or the middle three, at the very least.

Kyla: A very good job.  She started out very well by keeping it soft, and then building it up to the moment of high intensity at just the right time.  I'm going to say that she probably has the finale on lock, at this point.

Britton & Brynn: This one was actually good.  Not only do they do their individual Parts while, but they only sang both songs together once, and manage it sound good.  Their harmonies were tight and clean, and their voices went very well together.  A very good job by both of them.

Kaleb: So last week, I literally begged both Kaleb and Brynn to play the God card.  I really wanted one or both of them to do this to guarantee Kelly at least one place in the finale.  I'm so glad at least he listened.  I found it to be a good song choice and a fair performance.  A little boring, but not bad at all.  I don't think he's instantly finale-bound, but he might get to the middle three, at the very least.

Rayshun & Jackie: Jackie's parts of their duet were good.  Rayshun's parts were not.  That's really all there is to be said here.

Pryor: No two ways about it.  He totally, completely butchered a classic Eric Clapton song.  It was terrible, but of course, Blake finds a way to make something light of it, and that'll probably spurn his army into voting for him, anyway, even though he sucks.

Britton: Great way to end the night!  Taking on one of his idols and doing his song well was the best way to go.  I enjoyed it from start to finish and thought that he didn't excellent job.  I really hope he gets the public vote tomorrow.  I will be voting like mad all night to make sure he does.

It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night.  But I will be updating iTunes results all night.

  2. Tonight's song choices:

    Team Adam

    Rayshun: "Imagine" by The Beatles

    Team Alicia

Britton: "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen

Jackie: "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake

    Team Kelly

Brynn: "What the World Needs Now is Love" by Burt Bacharach

Kaleb: "It is Well with My Soul" by Horatio Spafford

    Team Blake

Kyla: "Let it Be" by The Beatles

Pryor: "Change the World" by Eric Clapton

Spensha: "My Church" by Maren Morris

Make of these what you will.

He got it right one time! Good for him!

But also, I'm not convinced he did get it right. Sure, he's had people call it rape, but he also made sure everyone thought it was Stefan brainwashing Abigail, which isn't the case, so we'll see how it goes now. Not to mention the fact that he's now killed Vivian, so he may use that as a way to make people feel sorry for Stefan.

Of course they thought it was brainwashing.  They didn't know about the DID at the time.  Now he's just under fire for taking advantage of it.

And Kate did call him out over his treatment of Vivian, so no, I don't think we're supposed to feel sorry for him there.

Ron loves rape plots. It's really disturbing. More disturbing is that he usually loves writing rape plots and then writing how they totally aren't rape.

Um . . . except he pretty much called it what it was this time.

Like I said back when it happened, he knows what's what this time.  I don't think he wants to risk an uproar like he got with Ford and Tess.

I read a RUMOR (my emphasis!) on another board that Stephen Nichols is out, but that MBE re-signed. Sigh. Hope it's not true, but considering that online post of Nichols' that we dissected some time back, well...

If so, sucky news all the way around.

I don't like this news at all.  But Stephen really shouldn't have opened his mouth.  Ken might be punishing him for that.

  6. From TV Guide:

  7. From TV Guide:

    Quote

The eight semifinalists perform for coaches Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, and Blake Shelton in the hopes of getting America's votes to advance to the finale.  In addition to solo performances, the artists also pair up for the season's live duets.

I thought that was Carly who arranged that. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was because Sonny threatened to kill Carly (the love of his life) if Olivia died. Didn't she hire Sean, the world's worst shot, to do the hit?

Carly did hire Shawn, but he missed by a wide mile.  He hit somewhere else on the terrace.  It was later revealed that Ava had indeed been the one to pull the trigger.

    She killed her cousin Connie.

She did, but Olivia had already said that before mentioning what was done to her personally.  Back in 2013, she took a sniper's bullet from Ava that was meant for Franco.  It almost killed her.

I don't have a problem with Chad  being focused on Abby and wanting to protect her--he's learned in a matter days that not only does his wife have alternate personalities, but she's also killed his brother and she was also raped by his other brother.  Chad is rightly concerned for his wife and what her mental illness means for them and their child.  It would be inappropriate for him to be thinking of Gabi.

It's Hope and Justin and Trask who need to be working on getting Gabi's conviction over-turned and getting her the hell out of that prison--Chad and Abby have zero power to get anything done.  Righting this wrong is entirely a police and DA issue.

But no work could be done for Gabi unless a reason was given to get started, and Abigail knew that.  That's why she wanted to confess immediately.

There is no effing way they'd let Abby out of police custody if she confessed, right?

You do know that Abigail killed Andre in self-defense, right?  That typically gets someone off instantly.

    3 hours ago, Rowan said:

Boy, Chad wasn't even all that concerned about getting Gabi out, he was like, eh, we'll deal with it tomorrow.

I'm actually surprised (and actually a bit sickened) that more of you aren't coming down on him.  Seriously!  Abigail wanted to do the right thing.  She wanted to confess so that Gabi wouldn't stay in prison for something she didn't do.  Yet Chad gets a total pass for his rather lackadaisical attitude about that?

For Pete's sake!  It's like Abigail is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't with you people!  Nothing she does can ever be enough!

  12. Usually, there isn't much to be spoiled in the Lives, but there is one thing that can be spoiled: the duets for the top eight.

Britton Buchanan (Team Alicia)/Brynn Cartelli (Team Kelly)

Jackie Foster (Team Alicia)/Rayshun LaMarr (Team Adam)

Kaleb Lee (Team Kelly)/Pryor Baird (Team Blake)

Kyla Jade (Team Blake)/Spensha Baker (Team Blake)

Song choices are currently unknown, and they probably won't be known until Monday.

Hmm, I've actually been seeing it the opposite way. I've been interpreting his actions as being overly complimentary of Jackie while almost gritting his teeth week after week with Rayshun. On this night he definitely pushed her, but I see it as him getting behind the team member who might actually do well in the finals.

Believe that if you want, but I don't for a minute.  He looked exceedingly happy when Rayshun got the Instant Save.  No way he wanted Jackie V. to get through.

Junior in my opinion isn't treated that great by Bow either. She expected/needed way too much of his time to help take care of Devonte.

Let's not forget her drive-by last season, when he got their favorite pizza restaurant shut down due to too many health code violations.  I still want to pummel her badly for that.

And have her break up with Geoff as well.  No chemistry at all with them.

Chemistry is subjective, and I think they do have it.  And the show clearly thinks they do, too, so they're staying together, I think, for the long haul.

  17. Activated Murray is the best!

I was confused by Pops's sudden 180, though.  He was as just against Erica dropping out as Murray and Beverly were.  Yet he's suddenly all for it at the end?

RLS!  RLS!  This time sitting between Barry and Jeff in the basement.  And as usual, she looked adorable.

So Beverly and Pops are now behind the dropout decision.  The question is, how does Beverly get Murray on board?

If now Abby is back to herself and has conquered the alters, it was an incredibly boring end to a storyline that was never particularly interesting in the first place

I don't think that Abigail has been integrated just yet.  She would have to remember everything that Gabby and Dr. Laura know first.  But I think today's episode showed us that she's finally gotten the strength to at least hold her alters down, as shown by how she finally had the strength to push Gabby down herself.

So, apparently, on the day Krypton exploded, there were...what, five ships launched toward Earth? Kal-El, Kara, Reign, Purity and Pestilence? Somehow, Kal and the WK's got straight to Earth, why I wonder was Kara's the only one to get sucked into the Phantom Zone?

Six.  Krypto's pod was launched, too.  (Why hasn't he shown up yet?)  Seven if Streaky was also Kryptonian.

Oh, ok I didn't know his backstory.  He does need to be more self aware though if he wants to go beyond being a wedding singer.

I don't think he'll ever be self-aware.  He has twice celebrated way too openly over surviving the Twitter save in front of those who were eliminated in favor of him.  Not a good look, and he clearly doesn't realize it.
