Ha, I've never seen such an enthusiastic reaction to being named star baker. Nataliia was so cute about it.

I didn’t care for her reaction. We have seen so many star bakers honored in every bake off, in every culture. Each accepts it with grace, which is very important considering there are several people afraid they are going home. Even when Richard won his fifth, he smiled graciously. Dancing around in their faces is not gracious. I was surprised she did it again for biscuit week. I want to like her but her “in your face, I’m so awesome” dancing and cheering makes me not like her.

  2. Sorry I am very late to the party but I just started watching to get me through until the next season of GBBO starts in a few weeks!

When Ashyln started saying “Lordy - lou” I started hoping she’d be eliminated.  I guess I should just be glad she didn’t say “fiddle dee dee”.

I want to apologize to anybody who I may have offended with my American super market pie experiences.  I realize I shouldn't judge a pie culture by pies not home-made.  I didn't realize until I re-read my post today how it must have come off. The episode made me remember my American pie experiences from years ago and I just thoughtlessly blurted it out.

Being from Germany I grew up with fruit tarts, which were often quite ....tart.  So I  must have felt pie culture shock, ha.

Paul confuses me with his peanut butter hate.  I could swear I watched one of those cancer charity GBBS specials on the web where he said he liked peanut butter.  I know they'll never air these specials on PBS - which is a pity because they are very good.

No need to apologize! I’m American and I hate supermarket pies too. I’ve even had a few homemade pies I had to choke down - One that the hostess forgot to add any sugar, another was quite burnt.

One of the things I love about GBBO is that it transcends nationalities. I like to think we’re all friends here.  Cheers!

How can you say that?  Her Kwanzaa cake is a classic!

Well, a classic comedy piece.  My sister almost fell off the couch watching.  We a laughed until we cried.

Oh my goodness, I went to YouTube and watched. That is the funniest “homemade” cake I’ve ever seen, thank you!

  5. Zulualpha - John absolutely deserves to win because James’ 5 cakes were disastrous. Not one of them had the lightness of a chiffon cake. Brendan’s had the lightness, but it was so very ordinary and lacked any finesse. It was a round cake with a heart cake stacked on top with some raspberries put on top - it might have won star baker during cake week but it was hardly a grand final showstopper.  Jon’s final bake not only tasted great to the judges,  it was really innovative and showed much greater skill than either of the other’s cakes. Brendan and James might have won more star baker accolades, but when it really counted, Jon hit his stride and was the clear choice.

Was Nancy who used the potato masher for her fondant fancies? It was one of the "older" female bakers.

No, you are thinking of Jane from season 7.  Nancy made the beautiful Moulin Rouge red caramel windmill in season 5.

  7. Monica’s Charlotte looked like a hot mess. It was so over the top, I imagined what Paul and Mary would be saying. I don’t know why she drives me crazy, I’m sure she’s lovely but she’s my least favorite. She reminds me of a crazy cat lady.

I loved the way the other showstoppers looked, they were more elegant and the decor complimented the bake.

    I love watching!
