Patients don’t usually know which specific tests to order , though. And again, most also can’t interpret them without professional help either. Insurance companies wouldn’t be likely to pay for blood panels ordered without a physician’s order.

But do you all need doctors’ orders before you get your bloodwork done? You don’t decide which tests you want done without professional input, do you?

And yes, the US system of healthcare is shameful. At least 27 million citizens here still have no healthcare coverage at all, and even more are underinsured.

We need to see the doctor first and then the Dr will decide depending on our symptoms what lab tests to order . Then we take our lab test request form to the collection service of our choice to have blood drawn .

Once results are ready they are forwarded to the doctor and the doctor calls us to give us the results and gives medical advice accordingly .

We don’t need any medical insurance for this process , otherwise most of us probably wouldn’t be able to afford it and would go without treatment !!

What part of the cause was noble, though? How would a different method of drawing blood “save lives?” (As she claimed). When I was uninsured, I once paid out of pocket to have some simple blood panels done at a local lab. All of the results were normal, which was a relief. But if they hadn’t been, how could I have interpreted them as a lay person? When you don’t have healthcare coverage, you usually don’t have a doctor to ask. And you don’t have access to any treatment you might need if the tests show potential issues. Walgreens wasn’t offering Theranos tests for free and didn’t offer access to any healthcare professionals to help interpret any questionable results.

ETA - in order to get a blood test at Walgreens, customers needed their  IDs, their insurance cards, AND orders from their doctors. So this technology didn’t help the uninsured in any way, and the only difference for patients was the finger prick vs traditional blood draw.

Here in Australia we can see the doctor for free and all our blood work tests are free ( funded by government Medicare )

I couldn’t imagine having to pay for blood tests for a whole family when required !!

Because context matters. She was saying it with vitriol and anger, referring to it multiple times, doing stereotypical accents, implying that Kary didn’t understand English and should stick to “Mexican” words, to name a few examples.

Thanks for clarifying.  I see that the way she spoke about Kary was definitely offensive , but I thought they were implying that just simply saying that someone was Mexican was an insult . I completely understand why Kary was so upset !!!!

First thing I looked for and she did do it wrong.  Also, this Greek has had a lamb's head at probably 50 Easter tables - it was ridiculous that Jenn's kids were running around like they never saw one.  Its just something you grow up with, its at the table your entire life - like a gravy boat - its just there.  Also, and her explaining to her family what dolmades are......really?  So fake!

We hold our index finger, middle finger and together (the trinity) and do forehead, heart, right shoulder, left shoulder,  we do that move three times.

I’m Greek (Australian ) Orthodox and we all sign the cross exactly how you describe it . Been doing it all my life (43 yrs) how would you get it wrong if this is how you’ve grown up ? It’s been ingrained in me since a little kid and now is just automatic . It looked to me like she signed the cross the catholic way!! My Syrian and Lebanese Orthodox friends sign it the same as us !!!!

We also cook a whole lamb on the spit every Easter , including the head !!! My 4 kids who are similar age to Jen’s would never eat it but it’s something that they’re used to seeing and don’t bat an eyelid .

her kids reactions seemed staged ? Or are all her displays of religious and cultural traditions staged ??
