When the show first aired, I thought Sophia was hilarious. Now when I watch the repeats, I see just how cruel that woman was, especially to the only child who would take her in! There was a telling line from one of the episodes that went something like, "maybe the paperboy is right- maybe I am a mean old lady"...
And if Gloria did have a ton of money (before she lost everything), why didn't she pay for a place better than Shady Pines? And when Sophia moved in with Dorothy, why did Dorothy have to scrimp & save to help her out? What's wrong with Gloria???-

I just saw that episode last night. David tells Blanche that the child support his mother received was from a bank in Miami and that he got the house address from his mother's "old book"... so if it's an old address book and his child support came from Miami, it does seem like they lived in Florida while raising their own children...
The bathroom thing is really confusing the daylights out of me. I saw the episode where Sophia moves in with that old guy, Malcolm and she tells the maid that in her old place, the bathroom was across the hall. Then I saw the episode where Rose was being tested for AIDS and Dorothy asks Sophia why she used her bathroom and Sophia replies that she didn't want to use her own because Rose used it... So we have Dorothy, Sophia and Blanche (with a giant tub, mind you) with a bathroom, one across the hall from Sophia's room- does Rose have one? And if Rose has one, why would she use Sophia's? And if she doesn't have one, then she still wouldn't need to use Sophia's if there was one in the hall...I think I've just twisted my head into a pretzel...

In the episode where Uncle Angelo is visiting and Stan & Dorothy have to pretend they're still married, Dorothy is telling Angelo that her son Michael plays for the Boston Philharmonic... but a few episodes later when Michael announces he's marrying Lorraine, he says she's the singer in the band he plays in... what a demotion!

My eating habit is a protein shake. I'm in the midst of a 2-week pre-op diet for the sleeve gastrectomy y'all!! Not being done by Dr. Now, though. Thankfully, I'm not in his 600-pound territory.
My surgery is next Tuesday. Wis me luck!

I wondered during this episode - never any reading material in any of the interior shots - what the heck do they do all day long? Do these 2 women, who apparently don't work, simply sit blankly in a chair all day long? Do they do anything that engages their minds?
How hard that must be when you're trying to eat 1,200 calories a day - just 3 meals - you sit there blankly and just wait for your next (tiny) meal?
When they're not shoveling food into themselves, they are staring blankly because they are thinking about what to shovel in next... (if you're going to only do one thing, do it well?)...

I too want to sit around and eat and eat and eat. I'd eat bagels with cream cheese and then more bagels with peanut butter and jelly and then I'd have chocolate chip muffins and then a huge Italian Sub Sandwich with a gigantic bag of salt and vinegar chips and then an enormous pan of hot brownies fresh out of the oven and then I'd order a pizza and fried calamari and then to finish it off an extra large Resees Peanut Butter cup Blizzard from Dairy Queen.
But I can't because I have to work and I have to feed my children and pay my taxes and walk my dog and rake my leaves and mow my lawn and shovel my snow and go to the post office and the recycling center and the bank and the lacrosse game and the swim meet and the band concert and do laundry and dishes and vacuum and dust and sweep and on and on and on......

I agree! Although, Rita Moreno's character could have been developed for something else and still be neighbors of the Golden Girls... I thought she fit in with their dynamic pretty well... I just could not buy her being married to that wet lump of dough (George)- he must've been a tiger in bed...
