  1. I've been a Judy fan FOREVER.  Literally since she first started.  Lately, though, I have found her to be incredibly nasty and for no real reason.  Often it's beyond nasty and is bordering on just plain vicious.  Finding it harder and harder to watch.

I’m enjoying this season, actually, and this episode was fun. I liked Rosie’s interactions with Noel, Henry’s “shut up” will never be lived down, and David’s “I repel first” made me laugh. We’ve reached the point where I’m rooting for all of them and it really is hard to see any of them get cut (though I do agree it was time for the one who left).

My one gripe is actually with Steph. Don’t get me wrong: I love her, but for the love of Sweet Baby Jeebus, Steph: stop licking your fingers. Oh my lord I cringe every time they show her shoving her fingers in her mouth.

YES, YES, YES!!!  I am so grossed out by her sticking her fingers in her mouth and then touching the food she's making that other people will eat.  It's actual a healthcode violation here and I wish to heck someone would call her on it.

I would never never eat anything she made.  Ever.

You do not have to be a drug user/abuser to know that ChoreBoy is used in the smoking of drugs.

I found JJ's immediate response of "What is that?" disingenuous at best.

I had no idea what it was either.  None.  We must hang with different people.

  4. Was anyone else completed distracted by the amount of facial hair Alexandra the Czaina had????  every close up all I could focus on the copious amounts and length of her peach fuzz.  Good grief, lady, microblade.  look it up.

I agree--and what if Matt were to file for bankruptcy down the road? Or if he were to owe back taxes or something? Amy would likely be screwed out of her payments.

Not to mention if Matt were to pass away before all the payments were made, Amy might have to further deal with Caryn if Matt marries her.

Great point!!!!  It could be that she ends up dealing with Caryn if her and Matt marry and amy is still owed money.  GET THE MONEY UPFRONT!! ALL OF IT!!

Also, if Jeremy does take over (unlikely) he (jeremy) could screw Amy over and I wouldn't put it past him.

For Matt to buy the farm he would have to be able to come up with the cash too.  I don’t know if that would mean mortgaging it (or adding an additional mortgage if it has not been paid off).  I don’t know with his age and health whether he could borrow a large sum unless it was secured by collateral.  Maybe the agreement will be he pays Amy in installments over ten or twenty years.

Oh boy.  I would NOT agree to payments if I were Amy.  She'll be chasing him down all over for his payments.  I hope it's a lump sum deal and she can move on totally.  If not, I would never agree to a buyout.  I'd demand the farm be sold.  Period.

Damiano.  They keep putting him on shows in which he hates the featured ingredient.  He's just not judge material.

As for me, I like Jason.  Yes, he can be a bit over the top, but I find him amusing.

I'm not surprised Yolanda went; she just could not get her act together.  Didn't she have a bad first round last week?

YES!  Damiano.   He is not judge material.  It's a fine line to walk; criticizing but being encouraging.  He lacks the "encouraging" part.    Plus, I really do think his accent is fake.  It's too....cartoonish.

I'm not sure I can watch this season. Not because of the competitors, they're all highly qualified. I want to watch them. A lot. I don't feel the same about the judges. Capt. Cornpone is almost unwatchable with his lay-it-on-thick shtick. Marcella has cred for her cooking shows. Outside of Food Network, what do they have that qualifies them to judge pastry chefs that are probably all more seasoned and capable then they? Yeah, that's what I thought. Maybe with mute on for the judging. I'm cringing.

p.s. I would never put a crown or tiara on a cake for royalty! Sooo tacky.

I will take Jason over that Italian guy...what's his name???  He pops up occasionally and i don't like him.   he was on one of the baking competition shows.

I'm not so sure.  I think different types are in the eye of the beholder:  some people like blondes, other brunettes, etc but actual beauty or attractiveness is a very definite, easy to define thing.   For example, Halley Berry is beautiful.  A crazy person but beautiful; no denying it.

Amy is not attractive.  She just isn't.  She's not a troll or  hideous but she's just not attractive.  I think that's a fact.  and maybe that's why he likes her.  he probably feels no competition for her.

I had a former co-worker who was on parole and one day she was trying to talk people into giving her clean pee for her drug test. Note the word "former" - she was fired for falling asleep at her desk too many times and for turning tricks behind the building on her lunch hour without punching out. . .. .

I love this!!!  Was she fired for turning tricks?  Or fired for not punching out???

My only problem with Tori getting a new puppy is that she must have gotten him from a breeder.  There are thousands of wonderful dogs sitting in shelters waiting for their forever homes.  So, it just kills me when people pay a thousand dollars for a pure breed puppy, when that money could pay for the first couple of years of vet bills and supplies.

I am a "pets are family" type person, and every time I've lost a dog I have adopted another dog within the month.  Nothing helps to heal the heart like getting rid of that horrible silence, that losing a dog leaves in the house.  It doesn't completely the stop the grieving, but it helps.

Also, regarding Zach not being a dog person.  Zach loved Sully nearly as much as Tori did.  He was heart broken when he died.  He talks a good game, but he's equally excited to have a new puppy.

YES, YES, YES!  Adopt don't shop.

  12. Anyone here a fan of blind gossip sites?  I check one daily and this one does "reveals" occasionally.  Well today's reveal was Meri Brown.  The blind gossip was from several days ago and the tip was "what one wife of many wives has an active profile on Tinder?"

Not sure if its true but....

I asked Trudysdad if he thought Clinton seemed a bit off was because coming off The Chew, with a live audience, he's unsure how to interact with the contestants one on one and get the humor he's trying for.  He's not as charming as Bobby, or the handsome, ex-football player who hosted either this or the holiday series last, Jesse something?  (trudysdad had no opinion and doesn't care one way or the other, except to say Clinton is annoying.)

I don't have a favorite yet, at least not by name, lol.  I like the middle aged guy who has a bakery in what I assume is a small town, whose son told him "just don't be the first one eliminated".  Lol.  Saber is a bit hyper for me, but he seems genuine and is obviously an accomplished pastry chef.  I'm not sure how I feel about him competing against lesser trained bakers, or home bakers.  It looks like a rigged game.  But then, given the right twist, limitations and time constraints, I guess it could be anybody's game sometimes.

that middle-aged guy also competed against Duff on an Iron Chef challenge.  He was Micheal Simon's pastry chef.  He does not look the same.  At all.

Something screwed up my local programming so shows weren't coming on when scheduled and, even weirder, they were starting at 13 past the hour.  This show was scheduled for 7pm and finally came on at 10:13pm.  Very odd.

Anyhow, I like all the contestants so far.  I thought animal doughnuts was a tough challenge.  Most of the cakes looked pretty good although some of them didn't immediately say "watercolor."  The right person was sent home.

I like Clinton Kelly so I was fine with him although I'd prefer John Henson.

I, too, am on the John Henson bandwagon.  I love him!

He! I had forgotten about that Sherlockian heroperp-walk. I guess we can add 'eidetic memory' to her list of accomplishments? The only thing lacking seems to be 'common sense to organize protective detail for daughter when going after scary terrorist'.

THIS!   I came here to just say that was ridiculous.   Is she Superman?  Does she have magnifying eyesight.  Over the top.  I hope they stop with this.

    2. What is with some of these people and their lack of knowledge of basic holiday designs? I keep hearing "We don't have snowmen in my country, I don't know how to make one", or "I never made a wreath" or whatever the case may be. I am tuning in because I want to see an abundance of holiday cheer explode on my screen! I don't necessarily mean nativity scenes, but I DO want to see seasonal appropriate designs. I get it, it may not snow where you're from, but you can't goggle what a snowman looks like once you found out you are to appear on the show??? During the Halloween baking challenge this year I heard the same types of things- "I never saw a Jack-o-Lantern before"- well good thing you're not on a HALLOWEEN baking challenge, where I'm SURE you won't be asked to decorated a cake like one! *sarcasm. It is just frustrating to me.

YES!  I wonder if many of these contestants wanted to be on a baking show...ANY baking show...and this is the one they got.  So many don't seem to have the holiday spirit; that's what made this so enjoyable in the past.

I was thinking the new female judge would be alright and then we got the cutie tootie comment.  I didn't yell either but my eyes almost rolled out of my head.

Love the surprise on the booted faces.  That one girl with her stringy hair and double dipping and rubbing snot off with her hand.  OMG I can't imagine anyone would pay a visit to her bakery after watching this show!

YES!  YES!  When she wiped her nose and went back to decorating I gagged.  So glad I'm not the only one.  Pig.

Noticed Mary's abridged recipe given to the bakers mentions 'dip(ping)' at least 3 times. Since none of the finalists have made it before no wonder they followed the instruction until realizing it's not working!

The complete recipe Mary Berry's fondant fancies

    15. Take the cakes out of the fridge and place one onto a fork.
    16. Dip each square into the icing one at a time and carefully set onto a cooling rack, with parchment underneath to catch the drips. Try not to get finger prints on them - for this reason it is best to insert the fork at an angle so that you can slide the cake off onto the cooling rack easily.

This is how Mary did in the Masterclass* episode of the series.
    3bzFm2P.gif
To Paul's question why dipping not pouring, Mary answers she thinks it gives a smarter finish and she found it easier to do. However, from her full recipe, the key for the method seems to be chilling the squares in the fridge after almost every step and she didn't allow them enough time for that.

Not everyone agrees with her though. ;)

    * I seem to remember reading three episodes of Masterclass will be available later for the US audience via either PBS or Netflix.

I love Mary.   but I am always, ALWAYS, squicked out by super-long nails on anyone handling food.  I could never eat that.

Could they have poured the icing over the “fancies”?  The icing looked thin enough to frost the bottom, pour over the top and then move to a clean surface to present.  Or use two forks - stab one in the middle and rest the bottom on another one.

John’s showstopper chocolate cake was the only one I really wanted to taste.  The others were more like - sure i’d try a bite out of curiosity.  But I think I could eat that chocolate cake all by my self.  Sure I would regret it, but YOLO.

I was thinking if I was doing this I would have used an old fashioned potato masher.  Balanced the fancy on there, dipped it in the icing and raised it up.
