  1. What's everybody's take on the pitch clock?

I fear that my reaction is of the "Get off my lawn!" variety.  Just the thought actually makes me nervous.

  2. Enjoying the shit out of Mike & the Mad Dog (how else can I say it?).   Francesa...eh.  But I love Chris, even when I can't stand him.  Glad they put this together.

eta: Crap.  I forgot that Tony Russo (Chris's dad) phoned the show the day after Chris left ("Can I still call ya?").

There are some on the right  who feel that Higher Education is the liberal way of brainwashing the youth.  I feel that they want to keep people poor, uneducated and pliable.

There is the Grand Canyon between that first and second sentence.

I'd go along with the 1st, but only with the insertion of "currently," before "Higher Education".  Check the politics of the faculties of American higher education, and I believe you'd find it heavily weighted to the Left.  So = statistically provable.

As re: the 2nd: I feel many on the right feel many on the left want to keep people "poor, uneducated, and pliable", and thus beholden to the party who many on the right feel promises as many freebies as the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  4. Shit.

Wade gives up the winning run????

Edited to add & take out:

A few DMs thrown my way to remind me that Robinson Cano came to Yordana's funeral. #boocano should be, and is, hereby revoked.

Screw you Joe Buck.  Let's keep the filthy Dallas Cowboys out of the MLB broadcast, hmm?

    Yeah.  That was weird.

  5. They'd actually impress me if they took all that energy to protest a place where that shit actually DOES go on.

    From Twitter:

"Nora - نورة @noraj27 Woman in front of me at passport control in Saudi Arabia prohibited from travelling because she didn't have her male guardian's approval."

This goes all the way back to the '60s...   Boooooooooog Powell anyone?

    Now that you mention it...

Monday night, KC @ Seattle, a tweet from the TV guy re: the radio announcers:

"Ryan Lefebvre points out how Denny Matthews hasn't had to say the name 'Boog Powell' in years."

  7. I'd like to thank @Twins and @Tigers for their #Midwest4Life rejection of the Yankees' attempt to siphon votes today.

This is pretty typical for any player that has an "ooooooo" sound to their name. I've heard it for Albert Pujols and Nelson Cruz.

Yeah, but we don't give a rat's ass about them.

I was referring to when #8 is on the field.  Announcers don't make that mistake much anymore when *Moustakas* is the player involved.

But what a lot of sweet stories my initial comment has engendered.

Thank you for updating me on things baseballmoose! As my mother used to say, She Who Lives Must Learn!

I don't think it happens much anymore, but there was a time, other teams' announcers would be shocked that Royals fans appeared to be booing their 3rd baseman.

    Nah.

    "Moooooooooose!!!"

One guy had giant antlers attached to his Jeep.  The Moosemobile.

I've heard that Chapman's ineffectiveness lately may be an after effect of Madden's use of him in the WS. Abused is a word I have heard (ironic, isn't it?). I didn't watch so I don't know.

Welllll, at the time, with all those innings, it was...mentioned.  And, of course, Chapman was a rent-a-player, so why would his manager be *as concerned*.

    *ducks flying objects*

  9. "We're not the enemy of the American people. We'll just hunt you down and ruin the life of Americans who make fun of us online" -- wow, CNN.  I hope this guy you threatened, lawyers up.

Am I the only person who thinks that @rallymantis's post is some oblique reference to Mike Mussina? I had to check to make sure he hadn't come to any harm!

Let me introduce myself to the East Coasters.  I'm a Kansas City Royals fan.

This is our version of the bat signal for Mike Moustakas; nickname, "Moose".   Our 3rd baseman, Homerun Derby participant, also in the Final Five All-Star vote-off.

[Lucas Duda] is incredibly streaky both offensively and defensively.

We've got a statue of his Game 5 throw to home in the Royals Hall of Fame.

I've read a bunch of umpires' memoirs in my day, and one of the charming things about them is they all tell the 'where's that pitch at' story as if it happened to them. And not all of them cite Piniella as the batter. :)

That joke has a very long, very...eclectic life.  The first time I heard it, I was a kid, and it was KState v. KU.

A remote possibility for the Lou insertion is that he was a Royal before he became an Other.

  12. Great piece by Joe Posnanski on Steve Palermo.  The former MLB umpire, hero, and longtime Kansas City resident died in May, and his memorial service was this week.

Poz knows how to place an anecdote, for sure -- if for no other reason, check it out for the one about a pitching great's first outing as a rookie, and what Steve said to calm him down, pre-game.

  13. A great day: MLB ponied up a big ol' check for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

If anybody blows through my hometown, a visit should be on the agenda.  You walk away inspired.

I wept a little, during the presentation, thinking that I so wished for Buck O'Neil to be there, it was almost like a pain!

But I'm sure he was watching.

It just seems weird that the baseball game shooting is still MSNBC's (nearly) non-stop story. It was the big story in the news this morning, but so was the London housing block fire. And then there was the UPS workplace shooting in SF. I know people get myopic around DC, but wow.

It seemed to me to be a sensible amount of coverage for a politically motivated act of violence, and I tip my rally cap to the network for it.

  15. Congratulations, Steady Eddie.

Safe to say most of Kansas City was tuned in for that last out.  We know he was there with you!

Using a blowjob metaphor to describe how Putin helped Drumph into the White House, which now seems to have the appearance of Drumph being beholden to the Russian strongman, is NOT the same as say calling Anderson Cooper "f**" or attempting to deny gays their hard fought rights, which Drumph's pick for Attorney General Jeff Sessions seems wanting to do.

Great destruction of that obnoxious oaf Drumph by Stephen.

Okay.  So now, take that same line, and replace "Trump" with "Obama", and "Putin" with "ayatollah".

And tell me how funny it is.

That was your little brother? How cool. For years, those were my family's favorite Easter commercials.

Oh, sorry.  I didn't put that right.  I meant to say, When he was a little boy, he used to imitate the little boy in that ad.  Sorry!!?

I'm only saying here, btw, where he never comes (and BECAUSE he never comes here) that his imitation was, and still is, impeccable.

  18. I've been reading the political semantic hair-splitting, which requires lengthy verbal gymnastics to defend, including "Gah, get a sense of humor!"

Sometimes something is just a miss, and sometimes in the all-consuming desire to show how awful everyone associated with one political party is, you do something that you shouldn't.  Maybe I misunderstood what Sam said about "decency" during that interview in January.

    Huge mileage issue, obviously.
