If this gets another season, can we please see unknown (i.e: people who have NEVER been on Ink master) artists get a shot at the title.

And ditch the “Master of Chaos” if it’s going to stay as a pre-recorded video. I mean, come on, show. Zoom is a thing now; there was no reason those interactions couldn’t have been live.

I am kind of hoping that with this season, because it had an extended break between season, and a new host/judges, they decided to play it safe and bring back popular contestants as well as Dave as a link to the past.  I think the show was really good and I hope it rated well so they have the confidence to bring in first timer contestants and ditch the Master of Chaos.

And finally, Ryan is annoying. 😁

I really like her as a judge, I like how expects them all to push themselves, be diverse, and be able to do everything if they want to be the inkmaster.  I really didn't like it with the old judges who would sometimes just ignore the theme of a tattoo and give people a free pass because it look good.

When they said a jury of peers of the eliminated contestants I was thinking, wow they brought everyone back?  Then laughed so hard when only 2 people walked in and made up the jury.

I am really disappointed for Bob, he had been very consistent and always near the top all season, but I just don't understand what he was thinking for his final tattoo.  It was a cool idea but the design was just odd, the dragon looked like it had been rotated 90 degrees and hard to tell what it was.

Another thing I enjoyed this season was the lack of drama.  There was a bit of banter between the contestants but you could tell they liked and respected each other and it just made it so much more enjoyable to watch.

I think we'll be waiting quite a while more before we see another female Ink Master.

I think Angel is good enough to be ink master, but to do it this season she will have to run the gauntlet against some of the best competition ever.  DJ has now found his grove and putting out amazing tattoos every week.  Anthony is an ink master and is consistently putting out good tattoos.  Bob and Gian have been near the top for most of the season.  And Creepy Jason is also there.... I guess he could be a threat if all the tattoos for the rest of the season are black and white horror tattoos.

All that build up and hoopla about the guest judge and it's...Ruby Rose.  Seriously?  Nothing against her personally, she seems like a very cool person, but I was all ready for Mike Rubendall to walk through the door.

I was kind of relieved as I thought it was just going to be Chris Nunez

Are these people being asked/told to clumsily insert the word “fuck” into as many sentences as humanly possible?

I am wondering if they are asked to overreact to every challenge.  They all freak out over a mystery judge, seriously who cares, if you do a good tattoo it doesn't matter how many judges there are.

Super surprised that Tony survived, his tattoo was awful.

  6. Interesting that they went for a bottom 2 when Creepy Jason's tattoo wasn't great and could easily have been a bottom 3.  Maybe they thought that if they put Jason in the bottom 3 then they are just going to say he is safe and pick out of the other 2 so there is no point putting Jason in the bottom.

The bottom 2 were both pretty meh and either could have gone home.  I am guessing one reason Katie stayed was otherwise they would be down to only one female contestant left.  I didn't notice that they were eliminating all the females.

Anthony's tattoo looked like total crap, so I am thinking maybe maybe Steve expressed that he wanted out or something. But what do I know, cuz I also like the cactus flash challenge better than the pale exploding head.

I actually thought Anthony might go home because as he mentioned he just got custody of his son so needed to go, so Steve going surprised me.

What I didn't like in the winning flash challenge piece was the fact that you could see the side of some of the cups because they weren't arranged perfectly.  To me that was bad technical application and the cactus should have got it.  Not that it mattered, the masters chose some bad canvases for themselves.

I was a little confused by their wording about Katie "going home" because she felt unwell.  Does that mean she went back to wherever they are staying during the competition (heck, she might even live close by) or what?  I hope she will be back next week - her tattoo was very nice.

Pretty sure the preview for the next episode shows she is back.

That is the second time this season that someone has not gone home for not doing the challenge.  Creepy Jason in the tattoo in emulate a famous artists style and now Tony in the latest episode, both didn't really attempt the challenge, just put up a solid tattoo and get through.  It just seems wrong because it makes the challenge pointless when you just tattoo whatever you want.

I'm actually not a fan of the "live" finale -- I find that the audience is just screaming too much and I can't hear anything that's going on. That said, I still hoped for a finale.

Have you checked out the 30 minute video of the 3 finalists showing off their back and chest pieces?

    On 4/17/2020 at 12:07 AM, Eliza422 said:

I watched the video last night and saw the 6 pieces they had done. I think (obviously without knowing which of the two would get past the 6 hour live tattoo) it would have been a very tight race.

Of the black and grey pieces, I think it would have been between Angel and Jimmy. I liked Bob's, but there were issues IMO with the arms/wings. I couldn't really parse them out. Angel's was pretty awesome, but some bits were "jacked". The hand at the top was crazy looking. I really loved Jimmy's super clean take on it - a very striking image.

Between the two biomech pieces, I think Bob's was better. I didn't actually really get Angel's, although I have to admit biomech is one of my least favorite styles/subjects (the other being traditional Japanese). It always looks kind of a mess. Bob's was a really unique take on it. Angel's didn't look as coherent.

    Jimmy's American traditional looked amazing.

So I think overall they were an evenly matched set of finalists. Since normally the live tattoo eliminates one of the contestants, it was risky for Bob and Angel to save the Amer traditional for that. Obviously they wanted the big pieces to show off their real strengths, but finalists have been eliminated before ever showing those big pieces.

    Oh well....

I am pretty sure Jimmy was scripted to win.  Remember last season when the judges kept saying to Laura all you do is aliens, show us something different, but no mention of that this season for Jimmy and his abundance of American Traditional.  I feel like he always seemed to get positive critiques even when his tattoo's had obvious flaws.  And then that second last challenge, Angel gets pulled up because her forest doesn't look realistic, Kelly gets pulled up for not attempting the morph, are you really going to tell me that Jimmy hit color realism for his jellyfish?  It wasn't realism and it was hard to tell it was a jellyfish.

Based on the two tattoo's Jimmy showed in the finale you could justify the him winning, though given the high standard you could justify any of them winning.

So glad I read this because I didn't see Hiram get eliminated. Not sure if I just shut it off after Frank left or my DVR cut it out, but regardless both eliminations made sense. I liked Frank, but his tattoo was horrible. Am I correct in remembering portraits are supposed to be Hiram's strength. If so, not this week.

Hiram said that his canvas had very difficult skin which made it very hard for him to tattoo.

I was actually surprised Nunez didn't save Hiram - I think he's been doing good work this whole season. Frank had to go - as much as I liked him, that tattoo was an abomination.

I think they are going to use the save for Jimmy.

That is Frank's 3rd week in a row in the bottom so had to go.

At the end of the day, the chin and lower cheek area of Frank's tattoo was hideous. She looked like she had toad skin. No choice but to send him home.

I wonder what the finale will be like. Is it truly "live"? And if so, how will that be impacted by Covid-19 restrictions? Will Oliver be there given his release from the show? Or will he be allowed since this is the same season? Confusing times.

Agreed, Frank had to go, his was the worst by far.  Of the other 2 it was 50/50.

The finale will be interesting to see how it will be run.  Here in Australia we just had the Australian Survivor finale, only 15 of the 24 contestants made it to the reunion show where the votes were read, including one of the final 2.  This was due to travel restrictions.  Without a studio audience it also lacked energy.  Are you allowed to get tattoos in America at the moment?  Here in Australia tattoo parlors have been shut down because of the close contact needed.

  12. Wow what a load of crap, how Jimmy survived that is just laughable.

On versatility day Jimmy not only does 1 style 3 times, but he does the same style that he has done for most of the competition, surely that is a fail for versatility.

Then it is also a drawing skills challenge, Jimmy's drawing would have to be one of the worst in the room because it was just an illegible mess that he created to try and trip up Hiram.  Where is the judges normal critique of "I can't tell what it is from across the room"?

I mean it was mega obvious that Angel was going to be saved but it is just so annoying when the judges decisions are used to create drama.

Buh-bye, Jason!  I am happy to see him gone.  I would much rather see inktestants who treat each other well than one trying to rile things up. Also, he had been circling the drain for quite some time but they kept holding onto him.  The bonus was his face when he was let go.  It warmed my cold, dead heart.

I think Jason's biggest problem was not giving the judges what they wanted.  He tried to be artistic but the judges, mainly Peck and Nunez, want legible stickers.  I think out of all the griffins Jason's was my favourite but that is not how the judges saw it.

I don't the judges or the contestants knew what the hell they were talking about when they tried to talk about "color theory." It was all over the place.

If you want to talk about the judges being all over the place, last week Jason was eliminated on an American traditional tattoo because his tattoo had no whip shading which is a fundamental of American traditional.

The following week Kay doesn't even do a new school tattoo but Jordie is eliminated because of legibility.

I thought Jordi's tattoo was the worst, but of course they couldn't leave one person on Team South.

I am finding more often how judging decisions are based on getting entertainment rather than merit.  I think mid west won the flash challenge so they could "get revenge" on the west.  I thought the mid west and the south pieces was poor and shouldn't have been in contention.  I think it should have been out of the west and east, and east should have won.  But that didn't make a good as a story line.

I feel like Raul should have went home, even though his tattoo was better than Arlene's and Jordan's. Arlene's handle was the wrong way and Jordan's tattoo was just bad, but Raul didn't follow the theme.

I feel the opposite, while Raul did a really bad job with the theme he at least tried to do a schematic.  But I thought the quality of the other 2 were so bad that one of them deserved to go home.

Has Dave never actually watched the show?  Oliver and Chris will always rate a well done tattoo over one that better meets the challenge.

Similar with the elimination, I thought there were 2 tattoos much worse than the one that got eliminated but if you have a bit of skin trauma, there's the door.

I was hoping beyond hope that jackass Jason would be handed his walking papers, but he's enough of a shit stirrer that of course they wouldn't let him go yet.

I massively disagreed with the bottom 2.  To me the bottom 2 should have been the guy who did the shield with the arrows that didn't line up and the girl who did the fist with the writing above it.  Solely on the point that they were too simple, they had six hours and did tattoos that would have taken 1 to 2 hours.

Oh and the irony of Missy calling Jeff out for not addressing something at the last tribal. Yeah, there were plenty of things he should have mentioned last time, Missy - namely the bullshit you and Elizabeth were running on Janet.

Since Missy wanted recognition that 2 minorities won immunity last week, is it ok to point out that the same 2 minorities both got blindsided this week?  I mean just for balance to show representation that minorities can be on the top and bottom.

Serendipitous.  I just happened to be at a restaurant in old town Niles (CA) this past weekend where they had a "nautical" pirate theme, and, well... just dropping this little pix here...

I like the use of deep rich black to give it contrast but I find it a bit tonal showing a lack of texture and  the color palette is a bit muted😛

Those were my rankings as well. I thought the detail on Jason's was awesome and l always go for legibility over a murky image with packed color. To me, Laura's needed a lot more open skin.

It was the best finale in a while although too much time was spent on the coaches' tattoos at the expense of the three finalists. The coaches all turned out great work, though, and I wouldn't have liked being forced to rank them. I might have given the edge to Bubba's surreallism, tbh. Nikki's was beautiful as well.

As soon as a saw Jason's tattoo I knew Nunez would criticize it for being tonal, but at least you could read it.  Laura's was so hard to read with all the packed in color.  And Dani's was hard to read because it was a made up thing that makes no sense but hey that is biomech.  I understand Jason missed the mark with realism but I thought his was easily the best of the 3.

It was a decent finale with minimal teams yelling at each other about fake drama, but the bit where the eliminated coaches were throwing to each other about what the other coaches were tattooing was just so cringey.

I thought the coaches tattoos were some of the best we have seen.  I thought Duffy should have been last and my top 4 was nearly the same as theirs except I had Jime in there instead of DJ.  I couldn't believe Jime came 6th.

5 hours ago, Wandering Snark said:

Before any other thoughts: it was just coincidence that the two Inkmasters were the final two in the coaches battle and it just so happened to come down to a male vs female coach right? And that a female won both that and the season title? Again, just a coincidence?

I think they could tell for the most part who did what tattoo in the blind judging.  Jime, Ryan and DJ all played to their strengths and I am sure that is why even with "blind judging" they managed to get Ryan and DJ as the final 2.

Coaches Champ: who knows. I'll guess Megan Jean.

Would Jake's tattoo have been eliminated if the judging was totally blind and impartial? I don't know. Do I generally feel that these 3 were the best artists from this season? Yeah, I think so.

I think I agree with your final positions but then again last season I thought it was between Tiffer and Ceej and then Tony came from no where to win.

Coach's champ has gotta be DJ, he will do a big impressive tattoo and the judges will lap it up as usual.

While I thought Jake's tattoo was technically really good I thought it was pretty boring.  It was just a black and grey witch.  I liked that they picked Jason over Jake just because Jason'e showed a bit more creativity.
