Spoilers, New Topics & Co

CM-BlueButterfly

Hi everyone,

the new TV season is slowly taking off – and with new seasons come new spoilers. While some members and guests might not mind to know little nuggets in advance or they’re like me and like to know as much as possible before an episode airs, others like to watch unspoiled and some might even avoid previews and/or the synopsis, so that they go into a new episode without any expectations.

Whatever your preference may be, Primetimer’s forum-wide spoiler policy is intended to create a space where all spoiler-types feel welcome and accommodated and are comfortable posting throughout the season.

A few of Primetimer’s key spoiler policies that help us keep spoilers out of threads they shouldn’t be in:

  • if it wasn't in the current or a previous episode/season that the topic is for, it's a spoiler and needs to be spoiler-tagged (or moved to the respective topic). This applies to:
    •  shows that aired outside the US first
    •  shows of which all episodes are released at once
    •  off-air shows and show-related movies

  • Previews, and preview-based speculation should be treated as potential spoilers. If you like to share a preview, please spoiler-tag it or create an episode topic for the following week’s episode.
  • Discussions on original source materials, such as comic books, novels or video games, should be considered spoilers, even if the adaptation diverges significantly or the source is notably old. Like with historical facts, all conversations revolving around source material should be either spoiler tagged or taken to a separate topic.

It’s my impression that there’s some uncertainty around whether or not discussion has to stay in a “General Discussion” thread if there is one.
The simple answer is: It does not.

Feel free to create episode, spoiler, source material, media and other topics as you see fit. The only ask is that you please stick to the format of S01.E01: Episode Title for episode topics as it makes them easier to search for and find.

There’s no need to come up with clever names for topics that don’t have a pre-determined title. You’re welcome to do so but you don’t have to. (If you’re one of those enviable people who have an easy time coming up with clever titles, please remember to keep topic titles non-offensive).

If individual episode topics are created, “General Discussion” topics can be used for all-episode/all-season discussions, re-purposed into a media topics or closed. Just let a moderator know via reporting the “General Discussion” topic when moderator action (like re-naming) is required. We’re happy to help.

If a show has been on the air for a number of seasons already and you like to switch from a single topic to individual season or episode topics for the upcoming season, please let a moderator know via reporting the “General Discussion” topic as well. One of us will then separate the existing “General Discussion” topic into season and media topics.

Lastly, while off-topic posts are largely harmless, they can be frustrating to anyone who visits the forum, sees new posts for a specific thread and then finds out that the new posts are not about the thread’s subject at all.
At the same time, we’re all human and sometimes we get side-tracked and threads drift into a different subject. That’s normal and actually a sign that we’re comfortable where we’re posting and the people we have conversations with.

In light of that, the moderator team would like to encourage members who come across non-offensive off-topic posts to kindly request that a conversation be taken back on-topic.

On that same note, if a member points out that a topic has gotten a little off-track, please don’t ignore it or laugh it off but consider it as a sign that maybe, the off-topic conversation has gone on for a bit too long and should either be taken to another thread (if applicable) or cease.

If there’s a lively off-topic conversation going, a thread for the topic can also always be created if it doesn’t yet exist (that includes Small Talk threads). In that case, please report the off-topic posts so they can be moved.

With all that said, all that’s left for me to do is wish you all a fun season. I hope your favorites deliver and even if they may not go the route you were hoping for, I hope that they still feature enough moments of whatever it was that made you a fan in the first place to bring you joy regardless.

If you like, head on over here and share which shows you’re looking forward to the most and what it is that you hope to see this season.

Otherwise, happy watching and posting.
