Eonline:  16 Actors who should have got Golden Globe nominations

STEPHEN AMELL, ARROW
We're just going to say it: Amell is hands down the most underrated actor on TV, delivering a mini-action movie each and every week, doing most of his own stunts and some serious emotional heavy-lifting as Oliver Queen. You can keep Batman and Superman, our money's on the Arrow any day, thanks to Amell's brooding portrayal and unparalleled work ethic.

The tumblir stuff is interesting. There are only 5 canon couples and the rest are all non-canon slash ships, although I'm not sure what that means.

It means passion goes with frustration. Even  canon couples in the list have been fanon for a long time (although it was a given some of them would become canon sooner or later).

Or maybe frustration goes with not having your OTP together.  While they were overwhelming the thing most people were thankful for in TV Line's Readers Give Thanks comments, there's a lot less talk about them on-line since they got married.  (Arrow got a couple of mentions too.)

I don't understand shipping couples that are never going to be canon (Regina/Emma) but that's just me.

Felicity is one of Yahoo's TV MVPs of 2014.

I really like what they wrote about Felicity:

Emily Bett Rickards, Arrow           9/25

Felicity Smoak just gets better by the day. She may not be so great in a fight, and yeah, she's easily distracted when Oliver starts doing the salmon ladder. (Seriously, who wouldn't be?) But she's turning out to be one of the most badass members of the DC Comics TV universe. Yet she's also the most human. She forces Arrow to be human, Flash to see reality, and the future Atom to move forward from the devastating loss of his fiancée… all with humor, intellect, and a totally flawless wardrobe. — Breanne L. The Biggest TV Moments of 2014

9 | 'THE FLASH VS. ARROW'

There are crossovers. And there are superhero shows. But never in recent TV memory have two live-action costumed crimefighters clashed in super fashion (albeit under extenuating circumstances). The Flash's smooth moves versus Arrow's strength and stratagem made for a thrilling tango that lived up to the hype.

Yes frustration goes with not having your pairing together which is what generates passion and involvement. It's not a list about what are the better written pairings (I keep aside real people), but the ones generating the most buzz on Tumblr. Alternative, impossible, slash-pairings,... -almost- always get more investment and support than "given" couples.

From EW...

[L]et’s acknowledge some of the best and worst moments that 2014’s mid-season finales had to offer. To do that, we’ve handed out a few (figurative) awards for the hours that will stick with us through the holidays:

Best character death that won’t stick: Arrow

Oliver Queen’s final showdown against Ra’s al Ghul was as memorable as it was shocking. Was it a great cliffhanger? Yes, quite literally. Do we believe that Stephen Amell is off the show? Not for one second. It’s called “Arrow.”

'Arrow', 'Walking Dead', and more earn TV mid-season finale awards

Blastr's Best TV Eps of 2014:

3/15
"The Climb," Arrow

No, it's not just that this episode is still fresh on our minds from that shocking midseason finale a few weeks ago.  This was, easily, one of the best episodes of one of the best shows currently airing on television.  Those are strong words, especially for a CW series, but it's true.  The third season of Arrow has found the show diving head first into the deeper waters of DC lore, deftly introducing the iconic baddie Ra's al Ghul and taking the characters in surprising directions.  The anticipated face off between Oliver and Ra's did not disappoint, and this episode would make the list if only for that jaw-dropping final shot.

411MANIA's Top 10 Sheer Entertainment Value Programs of 2014 (Arrow is #5 and The Flash is #1):

5) Arrow (The CW)
The darker of The CW’s two superhero shows, Arrow takes itself very seriously, which works when it comes to the audience buying into the stakes and also when it comes to providing levity; the show’s writers know its characters and its audience very well, leading to plenty of humor without costing an ounce of tension. And the fight scenes continue to kick ass.

I'm mystified that people are really that confused as to why Ray is the 2nd least favorite character after the douchey DJ in that poll.  Has he given viewers a reason to be likeable after taking over Oliver's company, lying to everyone about why he wanted it, stalking Felicity (even showing up unannounced at her apartment), and taking advantage her on their "date"?  I get that they're trying to create a mystery around him as they mold him into a future superhero, but they really suck at making him likeable.  BR also isn't helping matters with his crazy-eyed facial expressions.

Eh, people are justifyiing this dislike by saying it's just the 'olicity shippers' who are bitter about him. Which imo is stupid.

Link to comment

Right.  It might be true that some Olicity shippers dislike him as an obstacle, but honestly, I think the bigger issue is the character himself.  And the argument goes both ways--I could make a case that some people have been too willing to overlook his problematic behavior just because he's destined to be The Atom.

Eh I mostly don't understand the "he's a male Felicity" view. Just what? Hmm he's super smart, good looking, socially awkward (I have a different sentiment), wants to save Starling. Is that what they mean? In which case OK. But I don't think Felicity when I think Ray.

9.  ARROW (The CW) – Coming off a stellar second season and jumping right into an adrenaline-pumping third season, ARROW is constantly raising the bar for its characters and its audience.  It fearlessly kills off characters and pummels its heroes with insane situations and tests of physical endurance.  It also emphasizes the personal cost for taking on the responsibility of heroism and the physical toll as well.  And with the exception of Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) brief appearance as THE FLASH on the show, ARROW determinedly tries to emphasize that an average person can be a hero, but there is a price to be paid for being a superhero without superhuman abilities.  Despite these challenges, it also finds a way to make us laugh and cheer and still want to spend as much time as possible with all of them in their evil-infested world.  ARROW offers characters that we cheer for and feel for through their triumphs and their losses.  Because it feels surprisingly real and grounded, the audience feels it all that much more intensely.  But we relish the pain as well as the rewards.

iDigital Times Top 10 TV Shows of 2014

http://www.idigitaltimes.com/idigital-times-top-10-tv-shows-2014-403069

3. Arrow
The show that is a large part of the comic book television renaissance going on right now. Arrow is the symbol of the beautiful marriage between the CW and DC Entertainment, having one spin-off to its credit -- more on that later -- and the foundation of a shared universe on the Vigilante's shoulders. And wouldn't you know it the masses have taken to Oliver Queen and his Arrow crew.

Ollie and the gang are in the middle of their third season saving the soul of Starling City and they nor the team behind the show seem like they are slowing down. While the third season may  have had its slow moments when the show went away from the over-arching plot -- namely finding the killer of a beloved character -- the mid-season finale was just the gut-punch this season needed to make it one of the most fun and exciting experiences on television.

Arrow” -- Is Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) really dead after his fight with Ra's Al Ghul (Matt Nable) in the Season 3 midseason finale? He was thrown off a cliff, so it seems that way. However, we’re guessing that he’ll find a way back since the show is called “Arrow.”

24. Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Arrow

anigif_original-grid-image-25716-1419287

Badass Boss Moves: Felicity started her time on Arrow as a smart but timid computer whiz. Fast forward to Season 3 and she’s completely able to hold her own when it comes to working with Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey). She’s also an insanely skilled hacker and runs circles around all of the men around her. Did I mention she’s also got, like, a bunch of men who want to date her? (I’m looking at you, Oliver and Barry [Grant Gustin], both of whom are total babes.)

25. ARROW - Oliver tells Felicity he loves her
This scene was something the fans of the two were waiting for, for a long time. It may not be the show's most important moment yet but it was a lovely surprise for many, especially considering what happened next. Jamie: "This has to be my favorite scene of the year, the one that warmed every Olicity fan's heart."

*    *    *

16. ARROW - Oliver's "death"
It was such a powerful moment, to see the show's main hero killed. No matter what happens next (and how he will return), it doesn't undermine the impact of this scene. The fight itself was both impressive and absolutely heartbreaking view. Gavin: "The final scene of the mid-season finale of Arrow when Ra's al Ghul is fighting with Oliver. Oliver doesn't do very well and it isn't long before Ra stabs Oliver with the sword and then kicks him over the cliff. Probably the most jaw-dropping moment I've seen in TV in a long time."

*    *    *

11. ARROW - Arrow vs. Deathstroke
Bradley: "The fight between these two in the season two finale was glorious. The choreographing was excellent. The way it was performed was excellent. The soundtrack was excellent. But most of all, the fact that the fight in the present day and the one in the flashbacks took place at the exact same time due to the brilliant transitions put this fight on my list. Arrow's stunts are the highlight of the show, and the crew seriously outdid themselves with this one." Daniel: "Arrow fights Slade in the past and present. In the Arrow season 2 finale, Oliver finally has to fight Slade when he is cured of the Mirakuru. Not only does he fight Slade in the present, but also in the flashbacks from five years ago. This makes for a beautifully directed scene, flashing between past and present to deliver one of the series' best fights to date."

TBH I side eye that list because there's no mention of any of the older actor on either Arrow or The Flash who some of definitely surpass, SA, EBR and GG. But that's just my humble opinion lol. I guess it's more of a most popular actor list.

More recognition for Felicity...

MOST ENJOYABLE CHARACTERS OF 2014
Bridget Liszewski | December 30, 2014 |
http://www.thetvjunkies.com/most-enjoyable-characters/

FELICITY SMOAK – ARROW

Thanks to the many crossover opportunities between Arrow and The Flash, we got even more Felicity Smoak than usual this year and that, my friends, is a very good thing. Sure Felicity may be gorgeous, but she always feels real and down to earth, and we love it when she gets her nerd on. The better half of Olicity seems to turn into a blabbering fool at times, but we can’t help but smile that she’s not afraid to speak her mind and give it straight to Oliver when the situation calls for it. Felicity has a great sense humour, but she also never fails to rise to the occasion when Team Arrow needs her most. Plus we’d kill for her wardrobe right ladies? We don’t know about you, but we always feel a little better knowing Felicity Smoak is on our side.

The Best of 2014: Best Drama
http://www.tvfanatic.com/slideshows/the-best-of-2014-best-drama/arrow/

5. Arrow
When we talk about best dramas, the CW doesn't usually come to mind. Neither do shows based on comic books. Which is unfortunate, because Arrow is one of the best dramas on television right now. It's about more than Stephen Amell's shirtless allure. This is a show that's fearless, that allows main characters to fail, that allows disasters and their consequences to happen. Arrow manages to keep us riveted without needlessly dragging out storylines for suspense. The show isn't afraid to shake things up or raise the stakes, and we are always on our toes knowing that no character is ever safe from harm. Team Arrow -- Oliver, Diggle and Felicity -- keeps our hearts in the game, as we care about these people. Lastly, we can't talk about Arrow without talking about the beauty of the fight sequences; the show's stunt coordination is simply unmatched on TV right now. -- Robin Harry
