The 15 Best Superhero TV Shows Of 2018, Ranked
BY NICK VENABLE  DECEMBER 31, 2018
https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2464265/the-15-best-superhero-tv-shows-of-2018-ranked

Quote

7. Arrow - The CW
Arrow wrapped up its sixth-season fight against Michael Emerson's Cayden James by having Oliver go public with his Green Arrow persona, sending him to prison for the first half of the seventh. Under new showrunner Beth Schwartz, Arrow brought in several new plot points in Season 7 that offered refreshing jolts, even though we've yet to see how it'll all shake out.

What Makes It Great: Season 6 thankfully excised Oliver's five-year flashback arc, while Season 7 introduced an interesting selection of flash-forwards that hint at a vastly different future for Star City and its elite vigilantes. Removing Oliver from the team could have been disastrous, but his time in Slabside delivered some of Arrow's most impressive fight sequences in these latter years, and gave the female stars more time to shine in various contexts.

What Wasn't So Great: It has to be daunting to keep Arrow-verse seasons afloat for more than 20 episodes each season, and Season 6's plotting got understandably muddled in the latter half. As well, Arrow has sporadic issues giving certain leads and recurring characters enjoyable and fleshed-out storylines, which did get better in Season 7.

What's Next:

Spoiler

Following the "Elseworlds" crossover, Arrow will bring Oliver into the out-of-prison fold for the back half of Season 7, where the Longbow Hunters will continue to cause trouble. Expect a Season 8 renewal in the spring.

If only this were true... I could so much more easily see Cayden James being able to acccomplish this than Diaz. Of course, I'd also have an easier time believing my cat could achieve everything in season 6 than I do Diaz.

#1. Arrow (The CW) (Last Year: #1)
...
Arrow
Under the supervision of new showrunner Beth Schwartz, Arrow has been amazing this year, putting good use to most of the show's supporting cast while Oliver was away in prison. While all that was going on, the show introduced a "flash forward" set up full of characters we'd really like to see more of, a group that includes the return of Colton Haynes' Roy and the introduction of a new character played by Shadowhunters' Kat McNamara. You can find more about Arrow at our portal for the show, GreenArrowTV. It's still the most popular show around these parts, taking the top spot yet again.

A Year In TV: The Biggest And Best Moments Of 2018
Jan 02, 2019  by Team TSR
https://theseriesregulars.com/a-year-in-tv-the-biggest-and-best-moments-of-2018/

Quote

A couple of weeks ago, we asked readers to help us wrap up 2018 in style with an end of the year poll determining the biggest and best moments of the year in TV. And boy, did you guys deliver. 117,055 votes later, we’re ready to break down everything you guys think deserves to make the history books for TV in 2018.
*  *  *
Married Ship of the Year: ‘Olicity’ (Oliver and Felicity), Arrow
We still remember the days when this pairing was considered unlikely. But the remarkable chemistry between Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak could not be ignored. Defying comic book canon, planned story progression, and all expectation, these two fell in love before our very eyes. It’s something truly special when you find yourself rooting for a couple who seems unlikely to happen in canon, only to find yourself, 7 years later, writing about their marriage.

It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the duo, to say the least. They’ve spent their newlywed months separated by glass and bars, Oliver in prison for his vigilante ways and Felicity first in witness protection and then on the front lines to free him. But in the last few months of 2018, they reunited, and finally all is right with the world. Here’s to this married powerhouse taking on 2019 together.
*  *  *
Cellmate of the Year: Oliver Queen, Arrow
We admit this is an odd category. But when you look back on TV in 2018, there’s a lot of prison time racked up. Although many beloved characters donned an orange jumpsuit this year, none of our favorites spent quite as much time in the slammer as Oliver Queen. Between heartbreaking visits from his wife and naked shower fights, Oliver was pretty busy in his time behind bars. Still, we are so glad he’s out, back where he belongs.
*  *  *
Biggest Reveal: Felicity is the Villain in the Flashforwards, Arrow
File this one under: ‘Things we truly never, ever, ever saw coming.’ Felicity has always been Arrow‘s light, so when the show flashed forward and informed us that she and Oliver have apparently abandoned William, that she planned to blow up Star City, and that she’s now dead, we were…. shocked, to say the least.
*  *  *
The Year’s Best Fight: Kat McNamara as Maya, Arrow
When we heard that Kat McNamara was making her way to Arrow, we were stoked. Rumors immediately began to spread about her role; some hypothesizing that she’d be the show’s big bad, while others (so, so many others) were sure that she would be Oliver and Felicity’s future child. It seems that at least one of these things has been ruled out, but that doesn’t stop us from smiling like proud parents as we watch her go full badass in the ring in her Arrow debut.
*  *  *
Character Comeback of 2018: Roy Returns, Arrow
We’ve always adored Roy Harper, so we were thrilled when news broke that he’d be returning as a series regular for Arrow’s seventh season. Speculation as to his role quickly spread; after all, Roy is supposed to be living happily ever after with Thea, how can he rejoin Team Arrow?

In the season premiere, we learn that Roy is back on Arrow, but not back on Team Arrow. An aged up Colton Haynes plays future Roy, a familiar anchor for audiences to hold on to in the chaos that is Arrow’s new flash forwards. The clever reintroduction makes Roy’s return the comeback of the year.

The thing is that Netflix has so much content (about 4,000 movies and 1,800 TV shows) that some of the best films and series of all time are just sitting there, buried beneath all the new stuff the streaming giant churns out each week.

So I thought it might actually be helpful to remind readers of the best Netflix has to offer.

Seriously! I mean, if you don't know the context, it is a great hug but it's three years later, they're married and I still can't even see that scene in fanvids without wanting to deck Oliver. If it's a celebration of hugs, why couldn't they use one of the bajillion hugs not used to drive home the fact Oliver was lying to her?

That hug seems really popular even though many of us are traumatised by it.

I blame them not paying full attention and just being focused on the fact that he looks uber cuddly. I wanna deck him when I see that and I've actually forgiven him already.

EXCLUSIVE: The Most Popular Superhero Shows Of 2018
BY THOMAS BACON – ON JAN 28, 2019
https://screenrant.com/superhero-tv-shows-most-popular-2018/

Quote

Superheroes have never been more popular, with a whole slew of Marvel and DC TV series airing throughout the year. But how do these shows actually compare to one another? It's difficult to do a like-for-like comparison, simply because viewing figures aren't available for streaming series like the Marvel Netflix shows, or DC Universe's Titans. Besides, viewing figures in themselves aren't enough anyway; Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is known to have lower viewing figures, but a strong DVR performance and a committed fanbase.

To get a true sense of popularity, you need to look at more than just viewer numbers. Parrot Analytics, a data science company who measure audience demand for TV content by assessing how viewers interact with a brand online, measure audience demand, engagement, and viewership, assessed through everything from global file-sharing and peer-to-peer traffic to social media activity. They've spoken exclusively to Screen Rant, identifying the US' top 20 superhero shows of 2018 in terms of sheer demand.
*  *  *
4. ARROW
...
In 2012, writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg made history when they launched Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as the man who would become Green Arrow. It was an incredible success, becoming the first in a whole range of superhero TV shows collectively known as the Arrowverse. According to Parrot Analytics, Arrow is still one of the most in-demand superhero series out there, which is pretty remarkable given 2018 saw the tail-end of its sixth season and the launch of its seventh. Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman may be DC's Trinity in the comics, but Amell's Green Arrow is superhero royalty on the small screen.

Is Avalance, Olicity, Supercorp, WestAllen, or someone else best Arrowverse ‘ship? (2019 ‘Shipper Showdown)
Mrs Carter   January 31, 2019
https://cartermatt.com/349853/best-arrowverse-ship-shipper-showdown-2019/

Quote

Mrs. Carter: In kicking off today’s annual ‘Shipper Showdown article feature, I pose the following question: What’s the best ‘ship in all of the Arrowverse?
*  *  *
At the bottom of this article, there’s a poll for you to share your favorite! Vote however often you like until February 13. The winning ‘ship will face off against many others from separate shows in the ‘Shipper Showdown finale on February 14.
*  *  *
Diggle and Lyla, Arrow – One of the few couples within the Arrowverse that isn’t frequently referred to by a ‘ship name, at least in terms of one I actually use. They’re just Diggle and Lyla, and a part of that may just be used to how well we all know them and how natural their relationship feels. While they’ve had their issues over time, there’s certainly never been any doubt as to whether or not they will stay together.
*  *  *
Oliver and Felicity, Arrow – Obviously, these two have been through hell and back over the past several years, but despite Oliver’s imprisonment and a really rough start to the season, it does feel like Olicity is starting to make its way back to smooth sailing. We know that they’ve always cared for each other, and what they’ve had to work on is bridging the gap and learning even more about understanding each other and being there through thick and thin. Luckily, they’re at a point now where they both understand each other and are there for each other.

Given the over the top, and kind of inaccurate, description of WA, I think that explains the lack of enthusiasm in the write up for Olicity. Someone's bias is showing.

I like how WA is the couple the entire Arrowverse rest on and that the all the shows wouldn't be on air if they weren't together and would go off air if they broke up....and yet every crossover except maybe Invasion has had Olicity's relationship at the emotional centre of the crossover storyline.

Oh, come on. You're only saying this because Supergirl keeps putting Kara and Lena with other people! In your heart you KNOW this is the One True Ship of the Arrowverse!

On a related note, where is the OTHER true enduring pairing of the Arrowverse - Oliver's Salmon Ladder and Barry's Treadmill? Has no one except for me noted their suspicious mutual absences from the screen, suggesting that finally - finally - they have stolen a couple of Green Lantern rings and started to travel around the universe together?

We kicked off 2019 by asking you to vote in our Arrowverse poll so we could find out your favourites in several categories.

Our readers cast thousands of votes across the five categories – which included characters from Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl – and it was a pretty tense battle at times. The most popular choices changed several times over the course of the vote and there was a lot of chatter taking place on Twitter from the various fandoms.

Now the results are in and it was almost a complete sweep for Arrow, which picked up Favourite Arrowverse Show with 67% of the vote. In a distant second place was DC’s Legends of Tomorrow with 16%.

Arrow also won in the Favourite Arrowverse Lead Character category with Oliver Queen picking up 66% of the vote. Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) won Favourite Arrowverse Supporting Character with 76% of the vote and newcomer William Clayton (played by Ben Lewis) won Favourite New Arrowverse Character with 45%.

This Week in Superlatives: Most Dramatic First Kiss, Biggest Cameo Party and the Stunt That Almost Gave Us a Heart Attack
By Amanda Bell | Feb 8, 2019

The coolest cameo onslaught: Arrow's 150th episode was straight-up bananas with the key character cameos. The docu-style episode featured Oliver (Stephen Amell) being followed around by the film crew, with interviews of Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Sin (Bex Taylor-Klaus), Rory Regan (Joe DiNicol), Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), Diggle (David Ramsey) and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). Plus, the episode's action got Rene (Rick Gonzalez), Curtis (Echo Kellum) and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) back into their vigilante masks without them ending up in prison. Hooray! All was well until we got a look at the future, as Blackstar (Katherine McNamara) and Connor Hawke (Joseph David Jones) visited the now-run-down Arrow cave and hinted that there are some dark days ahead for our heroes.

Justyna:
I've heard that a documentary would be involved in this 150th episode of the show but I didn't know much about it. Which is probably why I ended up enjoying this one so much more than expected. From the very first second when we see a footage of Quentin Lance's speech this already feels special. Many fan favorites showing up (briefly) to celebrate this hour were a wonderful addition and I loved the format of all these documentary shots. From the interviews to the fights, an excellent work by the camera crew on this one. A memorable speech by Lance, meaningful confessions from Thea and Sara, a memory of Sin, hopeful, deep and even funny exchanges with Felicity and Diggle, and so much more. Quite a way to start the episode. This could be done in many different ways but the end result turned out to be beautiful and thoughtful. Congratulations to cast & crew for reaching 150th episode. Kudos for all the great work!

We collected all of our favorite ships here at TV Guide and seeded them into a bracket for you, the good people of the internet, to vote on! Power couples like Arrow's Olicity and Shadowhunters' Malec have just as good of a chance of making it the finals as their fellow Freeform and CW ships, and we've even thrown in a few "twisted" romances like Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) from Killing Eve.

Arrow‘s Oliver and Felicity
How do you make amends for busting up Olicity’s first date with the arrival of a shoulder-fired missile? By later interrupting Felicity’s “Don’t Give Me Maybes” lament with the sweetest, cupped-face kiss — and for good measure, have Oliver then say, “Don’t ask me to say I don’t love you.”
