Five Scenes That Made Shippers' Hearts Soar in 2017
Jen McDonnell  December 16, 2017

Love is in the air during the holidays, so it’s the perfect time to look back at the most romantic moments on the small screen from this past year. These are five scenes that made fans of these fictional couples squee:
*  *  *
Olicity: Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak, Arrow/WestAllen: Barry Allen & Iris West, The Flash
This year’s CW superhero crossover treated fans two a two-fer when it came to happily ever afters. When Nazis interrupted Barry and Iris’ ceremony (don’t ask), the pair decided to skip the vows and just head to a justice of the peace instead. But Felicity and Oliver suggested their friends have an impromptu wedding in a park, which was then followed by their own impromptu nuptials. It was cute, comic book-y and quirky – which perfectly sums up both couples. (And don’t come at me with that noise about how Felicity was rude for interrupting Iris’ moment; the park wedding wouldn’t have even happened without Felicity’s suggestion, and Barry and Iris’ real wedding was already interrupted – BY NAZIS. Blame them instead.)

Peraltiago: Jake and Amy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Bughead: Betty Cooper & Jughead Jones, Riverdale
Olicity: Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak, Arrow/WestAllen: Barry Allen & Iris West, The Flash
Malec: Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood, Shadowhunters
Kastle: Frank and Karen, The Punisher

For now, network TV series typically live and die by their Nielsen ratings. Since most fans do not live in Nielsen households however, the average person’s preferences aren’t taken into account, and that is frustrating. While we can’t change the system, we want to give you an outlet for your opinions, so we invite you to vote for your favorite and least favorite TV show episodes here. Which network programs are the best or the worst? If it were up to you, which TV series would be cancelled and renewed? .

Let's try to avoid a repeat of some of last year's results (which seemed to be motivated more by hate than love) - you don't have to be a SpoilerTV member to submit answers in their online form...

The Best and Worst of 2017 - Submit Your Answers
Posted by Saloni Gajjar at December 17, 2017
https://www.spoilertv.com/2017/12/the-best-and-worst-of-2017-submit-your.html

Quote

1. You can only give ONE answer to each of the following questions. It's tough! But that's the fun in this challenge. It makes you really think about what/who left an impression. If there is more than one answer, neither of them will be counted.

2. Any show that aired between Jan 1-Dec 31, 2017 is eligible, whether it's on network TV, cable TV, or streaming on any service. It can be a new show or a show that's already established. So from old shows like "Supernatural" to new ones like "American Vandal" are eligible, as long as they aired in 2017 and you liked what they delivered.

3. Do not keep sending your answers again and again as only once is enough. Multiple submissions will not be counted.

4. You can, however, repeat your answers if necessary while filling it out.
Example: If your favorite character in the whole wide world is Caroline Forbes, she can also be the character you will miss the most, Candice King can be your favorite actress, and so on.

5. Please write full names of actors/characters and make sure to include the show they are from. Submissions like "that guy from Supernatural, that couple from Grey's Anatomy" won't count so please use the names of characters and shows correctly. Don't use ship names either.

6. The last day to send your answers in is Dec. 31, 11.59 p.m.
*  *  *
Once all your reviews are in, up to the top three answers for each of the questions will be featured in the winner's post, to be published in the first week of Jan. 2018. That way, you can read all of your favorites of the past year as you head on to a whole new year of watching more TV. (You can read last year's winner's list here)

A few simple rules to follow:
- Maximum of 5 choices (all from different shows) per person.
- Only send the form once. If you send your picks more than one time, they will not be counted.
- I encourage you to say a few words about the reason why you chose the specific moment. You can do it in the "description" fields.
- By TV Moments we do not mean the entire episodes. Those will not be counted.
- The order is not important.

10 Sexiest “SFW” TV Moments Of The Year: The Dirtiest Moments That Are SOMEHOW Okay For Work
By Meghan O'Keefe  Dec 16, 2017
https://decider.com/2017/12/16/sexiest-sfw-tv-scenes-poldark-riverdale-insecure/

“NSFW.” It’s an acronym that has saved many from potential embarrassment in the home and the office. It means, as you well know, “Not Safe For Work.” The implication being that what you’re about to see on screen is tawdry, explicit, and potentially profane. It’s also probably loads of fun.
*  *  *
We’ve gone through the year and found 10 of the sexiest, dirtiest, craziest moments that somehow pass the “SFW” filter. That means there’s no outright nudity. It’s all suggestive. And it’s not just stuff for adults — it’s on programs designed to be watched together as a family.

SEXY SFW MOMENT: Oliver and Felicity's "bunker" hookup on Arrow WHY IT'S SEXY: It's the perfect combination of tongue-in-cheek foreplay (chin ups!), incandescent chemistry, and a raw, animalistic hook up between two characters who are many viewers' "OTP." WHY IT'S TECHNICALLY "SFW": Leave it to the CW to give Emily Bett Rickards a flesh colored satin bra. It looks nude in the wide shot, but keeps everything PG in the close up.

With the year coming to a close, it seemed like as good as time as any to reflect upon the year’s momentous moments – both good and bad. What better way to do so than by celebrating the characters and moments that managed to get fans talking throughout the year via superlatives designed to shine a light on both the best and worst Arrow had to offer in 2017. From shocking moments and terrible plot twists to the introduction of new characters and best couple, join us now in reflecting upon 2017 with our first annual Arrow superlatives!
*  *  *
Best Couple: Oliver & Felicity
Given the year in which Oliver and Felicity had, it seems only right to award Olicity with the honor of 2017’s Best Couple – that and the fact that there really wasn’t much competition at all. 2017 saw Oliver and Felicity slowly grow closer to one another and work through the baggage from their past to realize how important they are to one another. The year saw them finally take the plunge and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead for the couple come 2018.
*  *  *
Most Memorable Moment: The Olicity Wedding
Throughout the Crisis on Earth-X crossover event, it became clear that the writers were hinting heavily at a possible engagement between Oliver and Felicity with talks of marriage being heavily focused on in between battling the villains of Earth-X. However, no Olicity fan ever expected Oliver and Felicity to piggyback off of Iris and Barry’s nuptials in the park to officially tie the knot and become partners in life – this time for real. It was so fitting that the duo had an unconventional wedding and it definitely caught viewers by surprise.

Best Couple: Oliver & Felicity
Best Villain: Adrian Chase aka Prometheus
Character we want more of: Rory Regan / Ragman
Best New Character: William Clayton
2017 MVP: Oliver Queen
Scene Stealer: Dinah Drake / Black Canary
Most Shocking Moment: Tommy Returns
Worst Use of a Key Player: Thea Queen
Worst Plot Twist: Everyone Lived / Vigilante’s Unmasked – Tie
Most Memorable Moment: The Olicity Wedding

5 OF THE BEST COMICS–ON–TV MOMENTS IN 2017
by Erik Amaya | December 28, 2017
http://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/best-2017-comic-books-on-tv-moments/

Quote

THE ARROWVERSE DOUBLE WEDDING | DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: SEASON 3 (2017)  100%
...
“Crisis on Earth-X” was an amazing two-night event filled with amazing character pairings, Melissa Benoist’s stunning performance as Kara Danvers and her Earth-X counterpart, the loss of Martin Stein (Victor Garber), the thrilling return of Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart, and the debut of Russell Tovey as The Ray. It had ridiculously great fight scenes across all four parts and even set up the possibility of a TV version of DC Comics’s Crisis on Infinite Earths someday. But it ended, appropriately enough, with a double wedding.

With their first attempt to get hitched getting crashed by Nazis from another Earth, Iris West (Candice Patton) opts for something improvised and sudden. Considering their lives, it makes perfect sense. Barry (Grant Gustin) adds to the moment by retrieving the absent John Diggle (David Ramsey) from the Arrowcave to officiate. After everything that transpired, a quick private ceremony in one of Central City’s parks is the perfect way to join the two characters. But then to put a button on it, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) decides this is best time for her and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) to tie the knot.

Both couples would make jokes about the decision in the subsequent episodes of their respective shows, but the double wedding reflects just how far the whole Arrowverse has come since Oliver first asked for Felicity to retrieve some data off a busted laptop. Now, their family extends to four shows, two Earths, and a place for Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) to sleep. Having the West-Allens and the Smoak-Queens get married at the same time underscores just how much of a success the experiment has been. Also, it the moment of happiness both pairings deserve.

Best Comic Movie, TV Show, Character & Moment Of 2017

Best New Character: Prometheus (Autumn) And X-23 (Phil)

The nominations included Valkyrie from Thor, Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 , X-23 from Logan, the rock dude from Thor, Elongated Man from The Flash, Polaris from The Gifted and Prometheus from Arrow. It’s too bad we’ll probably never see X-23 again because i that storyline seems like a one-off, but she was surprising and amazing. Prometheus is the strongest villain on Arrow since Deathstroke. Josh Segarra brought the acting on the series to another level and made every character perform their best. Because of Prometheus, Season 5 had the best finale in Arrow history.

Oliver Queen x Felicity Smoak — Arrow
...
After several seasons of an on-again off-again relationship, Oliver and Felicity finally reunited permanently in Arrow’s sixth season. Oliver’s continuing maturation allowed Felicity to move past her issues with Oliver’s sometimes tenuous relationship with the truth while Oliver, now the mayor of Star City, realized he wanted Felicity to be in his son’s life forever. The pair worked through their baggage and Felicity’s fear of getting married to officially tie the knot alongside fellow power couple WestAllen.

Conflict still remains ahead for the couple; Oliver has been indicted for the crimes he committed as the Green Arrow and the group of villains working for Cayden James (who Felicity helped free from A.R.G.U.S.) present increasing danger for Team Arrow, but Oliver and Felicity will face any trouble together, a unified front held together by their mutual love and respect.

5. Oliver and Felicity, Arrow - While we know the circumstances surrounding their actual ceremony were polarizing, their reception after the Crisis on Earth-X ceremony was awesome. We like to think of that as their real celebration of love and the journey that got these two in this place. Part of the fun with Olicity is how the entire thing came about - when Emily Bett Rickards first came on the show in season 1, it was meant to be a small recurring role that turned into so much more. Now, Felicity's an essential part of the show and her relationship with Oliver is one of the significant grounding forces in his life.

WORST PROPOSAL
Oliver and Felicity, Arrow

Clearly they are conflating when the proposal happened and how they view that rather than the actual proposal because Felicity's proposal to Oliver and reason for it was incredibly sweet and heartfelt and anything that could prompt that joyous smile on Oliver's face once he understood what was happening could never be deemed bad.

I believe, by "Worst Proposal," they were referring to Oliver's proposal to Felicity during the WestAllen rehearsal dinner because this pic accompanied that blurb:
olicity-proposal.jpg?w=621

Oliver: "We should consider doing something along these lines."
Felicity: "Along what lines? What do you mean?"
Oliver: "I mean, the friends and family. Crab cakes and toasts, and those lines."
Felicity: "Oh, yeah? You wanna have a rehearsal dinner? What exactly would we be rehearsing?"
Oliver: "The thing that we would do the next day."
Felicity: "Did I have some of Cisco's 10,000-proof cocktail that he gives to Barry so that he can get drunk, or are you asking me to marry you?"
Oliver: "What if I was?"
Felicity: "What?"
Oliver: "That was silly. I am. I mean, I don't wanna get down on a knee and make it overly formal, because I'm a little bit sore from handling those ninjas, but - Felicity Megan Smoak, will you marry me?"
Felicity: "No."
Oliver: "No?"
Felicity: "Yes."
Oliver: "Yes?"
Felicity: "No. No, no. No. Yes, as in I meant no, no. No."
Oliver: "I'm not understanding what's going on here."
Felicity: "I love our life."
Oliver: "Um-hmm."
Felicity: "I love what we have. I love William, I -"
Oliver: "Are you framing this for a 'but'?"
Felicity: "Let's just talk about this another time."
Oliver: "This might come as some surprise, but I'm actually physically incapable of talking about anything else right now."
Felicity: "We don't need a piece of paper to show each other that we love each other."
Oliver: "I totally agree with that. This has nothing to do with any types of pieces of paper. This has to do with you and me taking the opportunity to get up in front of the people that we love, to have the people who love us present, and make a commitment to one another."
Felicity: "Yeah, and the commitment part is great. I'm so down for the commitment part."
Oliver: "Mmm-hmm."
Felicity: "Super on it with that, - but not the legal part."
Oliver: "I'm still not understanding."
Felicity: "Just forget about it."
Oliver: "No, Felicity -"
Felicity (loudly): "Oliver, I don't want to marry you."

Yeah, I can't say that Oliver just really wanting it and having to ask her right then and there is a bad thing.  I hadn't thought about it before but they echo his proposal in Felicity's.  Both were struck in the moment that they really wanted this.  And couldn't wait another moment to ask for it.  I can't think of anything more genuine and sincere.  They'd already had the formal spectacle.  This was from the heart.

I LOVED THAT PROPOSAL! :)

You guys know I was really worried the show would have Felicity proposing without properly setting up but this was such a perfect setup for that. Oliver just really wanting to marry her and not even waiting was awesome. I loved how awkward he was, how nervous ... talking about crab cakes and stuff. It was a bit weird that Felicity didn't catch on right away and that she had to ask what they would be rehearsing but it was just so well done by both Stephen and Emily (it was such a romcom moment. God, I need these two in a romcom ... or just have Arrow write them as if they were in a romcom. I mean, they kinda already did that with the boss/EA dynamic in S2. Maybe Arrow can do something fun with their newlywed life).

Even the way it blew up, I understood why. I think I mentioned in the episode thread or somewhere that of course it was going to create a problem as the proposal came in the first episode of a 4-hour story. (I "blame" Oliver for pushing it but understand that's what was going to create their conflict and Felicity's "blowup" was so Iris could hear and ask her about it later on ... )

Anyway, I just loved the no-frills, soft voiced "Felicity Megan Smoak, will you marry me?" complete with heart eyes.

Here are more end-of-year lists from Fangirlish, MTV and EW that I missed before (some of these lists also include couples, characters and quotes from other Arrowverse shows, but I'm tired of double-posting to the Mind Your Surroundings thread - so feel free to repost or quote other portions in other forums)...

30 Male TV Characters That Made Us Swoon in 2017

Oliver Queen (Arrow)
...
Oliver Queen has been through literal hell since he first appeared on our television screens six years ago. But we’ve watched him grow into an imperfect hero that has inspired an entire universe. While Oliver has had his share of struggles this year, he’s proved that when all’s said and done that nothing is more important to him than the people he loves. That fierce protective nature, that kind heart, and those dazzling features, Oliver always has us swooning.

Arrow
The Best: A Family Affair

I won’t pretend that I’m entirely thrilled with the way it all went down. However, I am glad that the show has decided to finally stop dragging out the off-and-on drama and allowed Olicity to move forward. Maybe I’m just getting too old for the typical drama, but I find “will they/won’t they” relationships on television to be generally fairly tedious. Particularly when it’s readily apparent that ultimately they will.
*  *  *
So I am glad that they’re moving forward with Olicity and allowing these two to be happy together. At least for a while. After all, with Arrow’s track record, I can’t fool myself that they’ll resist the siren’s song of melodramatic relationship angst indefinitely.
*  *  *
The Worst: Retreading Old Ground
Unfortunately, while Arrow has taken a step forward in Oliver’s personal life, other aspects of the show continue to rehash some of the same ground. On The Flash, Barry Allen is constantly surprised by villains masquerading as friends. On Arrow, Oliver knows full well the nature of those around him but decides to trust them anyway. Or at least he’s willing to make deals with the devil for his own purposes.
*  *  *
I confess that I also rolled my eyes a little when the team disbanded – once again – during the mid-season finale. Maybe it’s just my perception, but it feels like they do this a lot. Look, a superhero team is a lot like a marriage. If you can’t get make it even one year without breaking up, maybe you weren’t meant to be together in the first place. The team takes more time outs than most siblings I know. Maybe it’s time for them to resolve to stay together through drama, rather than constantly break apart.

From ships that broke our hearts (we're looking at you, Sanvers) to the fictional couples that continue to redefine hashtag-goals, here are the TV couples (in no particular order) who made us laugh, cry, and believe in love in 2017.

16  OLIVER AND FELICITY, ARROW
...
After years of will-they-or-won't-they drama, Olicity finally — finally! — tied the knot this season and, as predicted, it was slightly awkward thanks to Felicity's adorable rambling. (Even though they will never be forgiven for crashing Barry and Iris's wedding.) Still, even up to the impromptu nuptials, watching Oliver and Felicity work through their real and complex emotional fights as a couple is always thrilling. They've come a long way since their "lying about my secret love child" days, and it's just nice to see Oliver so happy.

Olicity (Arrow)
...
It’s been a rough couple of seasons for fans of Oliver and Felicity, but that hasn’t stopped our love for them. While Olicity have experienced ups-and-downs, they’ve gotten through it together. And stronger. And we’ve seen the payoff as our ship has been righted and the course set for endgame. Oliver and Felicity don’t define each other; but they compliment each other in a way that’s just natural. They make each other better people, and we’ve seen that over the course of six years. Their red-hot chemistry continues to blow our minds — and we’ve been watching them for six seasons now — and they always just seem to command attention when they’re on screen together. And in sealing their beautiful love with marriage, this is only the beginning of what’s going to be a beautiful journey of endgame.

STEPHEN AMELL
Around here, we are huge fans of Stephen Amell’s. We love watching him as Oliver Queen on Arrow every week and can’t wait to see what the rest of season 6 has to offer. He’s quite active on social media with his snarky tweets, Facebook live broadcasts (yes, one of the few celebs who still use Facebook), and cool Instagram posts. We love the stuff he shares with us.

27 Female Characters Who Kicked Ass in 2017

Felicity Smoak, Arrow
...
Felicity Smoak has been proving for years that you don’t need to wear a mask or be physically superior to kick-ass. Felicity’s superpower is her intelligence, and she uses it as a weapon against those unsuspecting foes or those that choose to underestimate her. Her courage and compassion are what define her as a human being and a hero. But that doesn’t mean Felicity can’t kick a little ass when the occasion calls for it. Felicity Smoak has been kicking ass since, well, forever.

EMILY BETT RICKARDS
Week after week, we love tuning into Arrow to see Emily Bett Rickards bring Felicity Smoak to life. Since the 1st season, we have loved Felicity. She is the embodiment of an empowered woman. She’s literally a genius and she can easily hack anything for Team Arrow. We just love all the little things Emily brings to one of our favorite female characters in the Arrowverse. Emily’s portrayal of Felicity proves you don’t need superpowers to save the world, sometimes you just need your brain and knowing you can keep up in a very masculine world.

Olicity Gets Back Together, Arrow
...
It took a while to get here – way longer than it should have – but when Oliver and Felicity got back together, it’s like the stars aligned and Arrow suddenly made sense again. Why weren’t they together before? We don’t honestly know, but we’re glad these two figured out that they’re better together, and that the future looks way brighter when they’re facing it by each other’s side.

Double wedding, Crisis On Earth X

If you’ve been following the Arrowverse since the beginning, then this is the moment you’ve been dreaming of for almost six years. In the final hour of his uber crossover, Barry and Iris finally tied the knot in a small ceremony officiated by Arrow’s Diggle; however, they weren’t the only ones who got hitched. On-again, off-again couple Oliver and Felicity, who had spent most of the crossover arguing about the topic of marriage, interrupted their wedding to get married, too! Was that super rude of Felicity? Yes. But was it kind of cute? Definitely yes. —Chancellor Agard

TV Quotes That Inspired Us in 2017

5. Oliver: I know when I took William in, we agreed that we’d keep our distance because he was going to have a lot to process.
Felicity: He still has a lot to process!
Oliver: He does and every day there’s a new challenge.
Felicity: I sense a but coming, there’s a but coming right?
Oliver: But then I saw you with him and I became 100% sure that, if you want, his life will better with you in it. Just like mine. – Arrow

Look, Season 5 of Arrow was akin to the dark days, not just because there was no Olicity (reason enough), but because to keep those two apart the show had us do unbelievable mental gymnastics. But sense came back with season 6, and Oliver and Felicity got back together in the third episode. May they never be parted again. The show just doesn’t work with them apart, not anymore.

"Crisis on Earth-X": The Ten Best Lines

SLIDE 4/10 – "SUPER-SPEED: I DON'T HAVE IT."
...
But yeah -- the first time The Flash and Supergirl join up with Green Arrow to face down the villains from Earth-X, the former speed out of STAR Labs, leaving the latter to arrive on a motorcycle a few moments later, comically reminding his teammates that he is the only one in the fight who doesn't have powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.

SLIDE 8/10 – "GET THE HELL OFF OUR EARTH"
...
Felicity Smoak had the great monologue of the crossover, when, after the audience saw her doppelganger cowering before the Reich, we got to see the Earth-1 Felicity give the Eart-Xers their last chance.

"My grandparents didn't survive the Holocaust so the world could be ruled by Nazis," Felicity told Oliver-X. "So if you want Kara, you've got to go through me, and even if you do you're not going to win. Because we won't back down, we will keep fighting. So get the hell off our Earth while you still can."

Even Oliver-X's response -- "as final words go, those weren't bad" -- qualifies as a pretty great line.

So they have a list of "best episodes" and Parts 1-3 of Crisis on Earth X (Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash) are all on the list, but for SOME reason, the finale on Legends didn't make the cut?  Whatever.  I wrote it in the "other" spot and then noped out of the rest of the polls.

Oliver & Felicity are currently in 3rd place (behind Kara & Lena - big lead - and Alex & Maggie)...

Olicity (Oliver Queen / Felicity Smoak, Arrow) – One of the longest-running ‘ships out there, mostly by virtue of the fact that Arrow has been on the air longer than any other show on The CW. Judging from the fact that these two are now married, it’s starting to seem like we’re getting a little bit of stability on this front. They, alongside Diggle and Lyla, are one of the only Arrowverse couples currently raising a kid.
*  *  *
Throy (Rop Harper / Thea Queen, Arrow) – Let’s face it – this was never a ‘ship name that quite rolled off the tongue; it also hasn’t existed on Arrow in a while, but with Colton Haynes returning later this season it seems as though there’s a very good chance this ‘ship could soon emerge once again.
