Ohwell September 11, 2019 Share September 11, 2019 I love me some Jimmy Smits but the promos don't look good and I already can't stand the daughter, lol. I'll give it a shot. 7 Link to comment

I will keep watching. My main issue is Smit's acting is so far above his costars, it's glaring. Edited September 24, 2019 by SuzieQ 3 Link to comment

Bulldog September 24, 2019 Share September 24, 2019 Contrived, predictable, clichéd, and obviously written by people who have actually never been inside a courtroom. I usually like Smits, but even he couldn't get me to watch a second episode of this dreck. 3 Link to comment
Readalot September 24, 2019 Share September 24, 2019 Ugh. I love JS. But eh on this one. His accent was bad. The daughter was annoying. I’m hoping she will calm down so I will give it another chance. (This is based on the Roundup case with non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Waiting for it to be connected with Multiple Myeloma so my dad can get his due). Also, the secondary storyline, why did the guy plead guilty? Because he didn’t want to mess up his kid and wife’s current life? 1 Link to comment
Tdoc72 September 24, 2019 Share September 24, 2019 From the ads, I knew that this show was a rip-off of the 1991 movie Class Action, starring Gene Hackman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Do gooder lawyer and angry daughter. But it was the exact same premise down to the cheating husband, dead wife/mother, black law partner & lesbian law partner. Strange. If I was one of the writers of the movie, I’d be filing a lawsuit ASAP. As for the show, I guess I’ll give it another go. I like that it’s filmed on location in Memphis and the music. 6 Link to comment
Ohwell September 24, 2019 Share September 24, 2019 I gave it a shot. I'm out. Hopefully, when it's cancelled, Jimmy Smits can find something else. If freakin' Morris Chestnut can keep getting work, surely Jimmy can. 1 1 Link to comment

I only have room in my appetite for one serving of legal shenanigans, and All Rise wins for me, too. The father/daughter/dead mother emotional trauma is a tedious distraction. The rest of y'all have fun, though! 2 Link to comment
rove4 September 24, 2019 Share September 24, 2019 I was also immediately reminded of Class Action, though in this case I thought the daughter took up her father's offer to come back to work for him a little too easily and too quickly. It's definitely meant to be one of those feel-good shows which, in these political times, is not a terrible thing. I'll give it another few episodes. The actor who plays the lawyer with the case of the teacher who pled guilty looked so familiar to me but I couldn't place him. It drove me nuts the entire episode. He played Bear on Six. Now I can rest easy. 2 Link to comment

Because he didn’t want to mess up his kid and wife’s current life? No. It's so that they wouldn't wait around for him and that they could get on with a new life. The original conviction was...I want to say...16 years ago. He didn't plead guilty---he was found guilty. It was only after the verdict that he started saying he was guilty, so the family would move on. Now that all this time has passed and they have indeed moved on to a great life, the lawyer convinced him that it's okay for the prisoner to move on with his life and try to get released. Based on the promos, to be continued next week. 1 Link to comment

suzeecat October 1, 2019 Share October 1, 2019 I felt like Jimmy Smits was "trying" with the southern accent, then gave it up halfway through filming. I hope it stays gone, I wasn't feeling it in the least. The white-haired senior female attorney? I kept feeling like she was thrown in there after Kathy Bates quit. This actress was playing Kathy Bates playing the role of a senior female attorney. Daughter? I'm keeping an open mind. It's just the pilot. Off to find LA Law episodes on Netflix or - somewhere . . .
