I was all set to complain that one of the clues for the Naval Academy category was wrong since Wally Schirra was not the only astronaut to have missions in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, but then I re-read the clue this morning:

"Wally Schirra, who was the only astronaut to fly in all 3 of these NASA programs"

Yeah, you can't say that Gus Grissom flew during his Apollo mission.

I had the same thought when the question aired. Al Shepard is another one who was in all three programs but didn't actually fly in all of them (missed out on his planned Gemini flight due to his ear).

Tonight I got Amélie (I've actually seen it) and constellations.

I said Levi for FJ thinking there was no way it was right because it was just wayyyyyy too obvious and hey, it's right! No way!

In news that will probably shock no one, I'm not a fan of the new champ.

Sorry to see Elise go, I was really liking her!  A little quirky and not boring 🙂

I said Levi but thought it was too easy so I thought I was wrong.

In general, it seems we are going back to top clue first as a pattern.  I don't mind either way or when they jump around.  However, what really bugs me is when Alex says 1 minute to go with one category left and the player who is behind starts at the top. It seems really dumb to me even if you're not sure of the category. You have to be aggressive and start at the bottom because you have limited time to get the most money. Anyway, one of my pet peeves.

(and no James as the next host, please)

I got Levi only because of the jeans, but was confused about why they'd have a public stock offering so late. I didn't believe I was right until  Alex told me I was.

I liked Elise, but I'm going with short girl solidarity here, plus I like the new champ too. (as well as the double negative in your post)

Starting at the tops of the categories is fine with me, but if there's one James-ism that I wish had carried over, it's big DD wagers. When someone has a good amount of money and bets only a grand or two on the DD, I find that excruciating! Go big or go home!

Well, you had one clue...

Like so many of you, I got LEVI right away but couldn't believe it was correct.

I had a pretty good game overall but my only ts was Gurkha.

I will miss Elise's dresses too - I loved last night's bright print.

Y'know...I could see the Gurkhas but just could not bring up their name. They guarded Mr. P914 & his associates when they worked in Iraq (in the palace after Saddam skedaddled). He said they are very impressive!

How did the new champ put it? "Faint heart never won fair lady - or TV quiz show...!" before her big bet.

James is my all time favorite contestant but I don't think he has the personality to be a good host. I don't see him easily schmoozing people. It's like with politicians, some are just better at connecting with people. Reagan and Bill Clinton come to mind. Both could effortlessly work a room. The show needs to find a host with the gift of gab who is at ease with people of all stripes.

Well...I did get a TS: Squanto. Oh, and another TS--Cathedral of St John the Divine. And New Orleans (actually, I yelled "Jackson Square New Orleans", just showing off!) FJ? I thought it would be easy. Had *no* idea. All I could think of was A Chicken In Every Pot 😊

The only thing I got tonight was United States/United Kingdom.

I did not get FJ. In my defense, I couldn't concentrate because I was still afraid that Julie's fist was going to fly out of the tv and punch me in the face. Flail, much?

I did at least know that they were looking for two words that were one syllable each. Go, me!

I really should gave gotten FJ.

That is all!

I feel like I should have gotten FJ, but all I could come up with was OK.  I figured it was wrong, though.

I did get cyclotron, and was shouting "St. John the Divine!" at my TV.  And I may or may not have shouted "WTF????" at the so very wrong guess of Pocahontas.

I always thought the phrase was a rhyme: Faint heart ne'er/won lady fair. But everyone seems to use the non-rhyming version like the current champ.

What bugged me about her saying that was you could tell she had it all lined up to use if she ever bet big.

Today may be the first time in history that I got a FJ that was a TS.

I really liked the middle contestant’s joy and enthusiasm. I didn’t like her jabby buzzer hand.

Lack of concentration mistakes today. Putting a two syllable word when they asked for mono, the champ guessing “Paris” in a U.S. Cathedrals category. Odd.

I came up with FJ seconds after the music ended (which is probably what would happen if I were ever on the show).  Tonight however I am attributing the delay to my repeated mutterings of "seriously, Pocahontas, dude?"  I may be able stop before dinner on Thursday.

I don't think I've ever heard it phrased as a rhyme.  To me it's always been "Faint heart never won fair lady."

Final Jeopardy should have been easy, but I couldn't come up with it.  "Fear itself" obviously couldn't have been right, not being two monosyllables, but it's all that I could think of as well.  Sometimes people write something down, even if they know it's obviously wrong, just to avoid writing nothing at all.

I finally settled on Squanto, but I was momentarily torn between him and Samoset.  Both of them had early contact with the Pilgrims.  I don't remember the exact text of the clue--was there any wording that would have helped distinguish between the two of them?

It took some thinking, but I did come up with "New Deal" - because it was a campaign year I did think of "chicken for every pot" (or however that phrase went), but of course that didn't meet the criteria. I decided the quote that FDR "attached no importance" to it was saying it was no big deal - which got me to deal and then new. It was quite a train of thought, I'm amazed I got through it in time, particularly after the crappy day I had.

Pocahontas did surprise me. I can see how he got there, but it was oh so wrong. I only got it because I saw "Squanto: A Warrior's Tale), and it stuck with me (I love Adam Beach). I wasn't at all sure there was a real person named Squanto even so.

Just watched last night's game, and I did get FJ. Go me! I think it may be one of those times where knowing less is an advantage. New Deal is one of only a few things I know about FDR. It makes frequent appearances in crossword puzzles.

I picked "Stella!" too -- I don't even know what year Streetcar came out!  I probably should have gotten Rosebud, though I've never seen Citizen Kane.  For that matter, I probably should have gotten Plastics, too.  I've actually seen The Graduate!  Oh well.

I was sad that Billy Dee Williams was a TS.  I got that one, along with pumpernickel, compounding, Georgia and South Carolina, and Utah and Arizona.

I feel like I should have known innumerate, since I am not particularly mathletic.

Incidentally, rabbits and hares are not the same species.  Rabbit should not have been accepted for hare.

That's what I thought! But I wasn't sure.

I said Rosebud instantly, then got as far as The Graduate just as the music ran out. I didn't get to 'plastics'.

I came up with "Plastics" right away, but was straining my brain to think of a movie from 1941, I was like the one fellow who said "Nuts"(the General who replied "Nuts" to the Nazis when ordered surrender), but that was in 1944.  I will miss Beth, I liked her pleasant voice.

I never get pumpernickel. I ate lots of dark rye bread growing up in Germany, but it was always called schwartzbrot (black bread) but as it was nothing like the stuff sold under that name in American stores, it could have been a regional thing.

I remember the movie that qoute was used in, "the battle of the Bulge" which was made in 1965. Henry Fonda, Robert Shaw, and a host of others.

I literally fell asleep just before the FJ clue was shown and woke up just before time was up. So I got nothing. ☹️

Snowshoe rabbit and snowshoe hare are both accepted names for this animal (Lepus Americanus, the varying hare, whose fur turns white in winter.)  I mean, a jackrabbit is also a hare, but we still call it a jackrabbit!  Eh, they're both Leporidae.

I got "Plastics", knew 1941 was too early for "Stella!", and ran out of time.

For some reason, I was imaging the single-word movie quote was from the end of the movie, like "Rosebud" is. I've seen The Graduate multiple times, including when it was a new release in the theaters (it was quite controversial at the time ... "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me ... aren't cha?") so my takeaway one-word quote from that film is "EILEEN!" as Dustin Hoffman is trying to break the glass in the church. At the very end, there is no dialogue.

Long story long ... I didn't get FJ.

I've seen The Graduate but I have no memory at all of "Plastics" being a famous quote.  Mind you, I didn't get Rosebud either but at least I know about it.

My husband was the same age as the character, and from the same region, so "plastics" really stuck with him (he too was not at all interested in going into plastics). He's the one who got it. Both of us missed Rosebud (hangs head in shame)

It was during the party held for Ben after he came home after graduating college. Here is a 15-sec. clip of the scene.

I looked up the AFI list. Rosebud is No. 17. Plastics is No. 42. "Stella" was a great guess (wrong, but a great guess!) except the entire quote is recorded as "Stella! Hey Stella!" and is No. 45. "Attica" and "Toga" could have been answers except they were said twice for the list. My "You're trying to seduce me" quote is No. 63, and my fav quote, "I'm walkin' here," is No. 27 (Midnight Cowboy). Side note: Hoffman totally improvised that line, it was not in the script.

Interestingly, I've seen all but maybe five of the movies on the list.

For the record, I don't think "Plastics" is as well known as the "Seduce me" line from that film.

LOL.Just checked and "Leave the gun..." isn't even on the list. No matter...still my favorite.

Ugh. What a terrible game tonight!  So many TS. I got a bunch of them, but since I’m not at home, I didn’t write them down. I do remember groundhog, and I ran the fish category — there were several in that one, weren’t there?

But for all that, I did not get FJ. I kept trying to think of something along the lines of prophet.  I don’t think avatar would ever have come to me, though it was an “of course!” moment when it was revealed.

OMGosh, that is so funny, or maybe not. I have two friends, one is Eileen and the other is Elaine. I have to be careful to not call them by the opposite name. The other day I stumped myself trying to remember which was which. So yeah, I'm not surprised I messed up Benjamin's girlfriend's name. Thanks for clearing that up. Now if I only can remember it ...

My two favorites, one on the list and one not (according to my quick perusal) are "You're need a bigger boat" and "Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?" - we use both of them constantly.

I was at my brother's. On Wednesday, I completely forgot it was Wednesday and I was spending an inordinate amount of time looking through the cable "GUIDE" for something to watch. When I finally gave up, I heard the cuckoo clock strike eight and it dawned me,"Damn! We could've been watching Jeopardy!"

Yesterday, I made the mistake of asking to see the vacation pics from when they went to Italy. I'm watching J! while my brother is moving the TV around to plug in the flash drive. Next thing I know, before I get to finish the G-G category, we're looking at file folders with vacation photos in them.  Turned out to be lovely pics, but he might've waited until J! was over. (It was only fair, though - I made 'em look at my Maine pics.)

Now that I'm home, I'll get to watch J! tonight!  I don't care if the cats hawk up hairballs, I'm not moving until FJ is over.

The mister came up with Nicholas Nickleby - which was a strong contender for this English Lit major.
