The journalist hasn't been on this story nearly long enough to make his kidnapping Ryn a logical next step in his investigation. He hasn't even done enough background to figure out what the military's part is in all this. There are also a couple of really easy ways for Team Fin to stop the journalist from publishing the story: call Maddie's dad and get him to put out an APB for the journalist for kidnapping, contact the newspaper and tell them the journalist has kidnapped their friend, and tell the military.

The mutiny based on the hilariously dumb reason that Beth is a Pownall and brought Ben Pownall into the group might have some validity had Ben not brought real live mermaids to them, which is something no one in the group had seen in hundreds of years. Dude, just admit that you're pissed that you live in the only matriarchal community in the US.

Unsurprisingly, Beth's group is still hella sketchy.

When has a male "person of color" kidnapping a young "white" (Finland) woman ever turned out O.K. Calling out the Military and declaring "Martial Law" is the response I would expect from this situation. The reporter could track Ryn's every move, you would think he would have done a little more of the "investigative" part of the journalism.

I thought they would only steal one egg, can't wait to see a cute little mermaid baby rip "Alien-style" out of the belly of it's hum(am)-mer(maid)-hyb(rid) mother.

That bathtub sitting in middle of the room, did they say that is the place where hum-mer-hyb women give birth to their hum-mer-hyb babies? I guess it is easy enough to move if they need to use the room for a social gathering.

Chris decided that the slacker life in the Military is better than the outside world, at least he discovered the joys of "color" cartoons and "Cap'n Crunch".

I think the Military originally brought Chris in to hear his story about the Mermaids. Then, I think the Military kept him so he wouldn't tell anybody else about the Mermaids. Then, I think the Military was testing the Mermaid Song and the Mermaid Song cure on Chris to see what it's effects are.

Thank you for saying that. I admit that I often am distracted while watching this show so I just assumed that I had missed some important plot point. That was ridiculous. And in what world does a journalist resort to kidnapping?!

Did they get the chance to implant the embryo in Ryn? I don't think so.

I also agree with this:

It doesn't even make any sense that he went inside the house when all those people were in there.

I'm reminded of this commercial:

I don't expect 100% realism in a show about a hidden race of mermaids and the government experiments on them, but I expect a journalist who is investigating all of this to do more than ask a couple of people some questions, get rebuffed, and then ignore all of his skills, training, and ethics. He turned to kidnapping like a 16 year old turns to Wikipedia for a school report. And invariably when you find yourself asking the 16 year old or this journalist "Did you even bother to try to do it the right way?" you'll be greeted with a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and an "I don't know."

Journalist is dead . He fucked up, badly. When is it ever okay to kidnap the subject of your investigation?  He needed proof?  He got it when he so blatantly snuck in the house and took pictures, while the ever indignant Brian Huffed and Puffed himself up to a silly, Hissy Fit when he should have been watching the house. Now, journalist is going to have to deal with an enraged, hopefully pregnant mermaid and  perhaps a bunch of hybrids and oh yeah, the military, you dumbass.  Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't the reporter also tail Ryn and Maddie to the military base? So, he knew they were working with the military and it was a very secret project with strange happenings of exploding ships and possible sabotage.  Yet, he thought, kidnap the strange woman for your "Body of Proof" article, if you make it out alive.  On the one hand, I'd like to see the whole story come out and perhaps have a feel good moment when Humans, rejoice at the discovery of a new sentient species that perhaps pre-dates humans on land. On the other hand, I want reporter man to die.  Dude kidnaps a girl, not knowing what's going on, and decides his story is more important than the life of the girl he is kidnapping.  Yeah, good bye, dude. Instead of trying to actually find out what's going on, your reporter's instincts tell you to kidnap a nearly unconscious girl. Go you, asshole.

Well THAT escalated quickly! How did the journalist go from "better ask around to see if the military is hiding some tests" to "better kidnap this young woman!" in like three seconds?! We have so many sketchy groups running around causing trouble, and its this random idiot that actually kidnaps Ryn? Yeah I am sure his editor will be thrilled to see one of his journalists just randomly kidnapped some woman he has no prof is anything but a tourist from Finland (so from his perspective this is now an international incident!) and now has her drugged and locked in his car. If they have any sense, they should call the cops immediately. Really, all Maddie and Ben have to do is tell the military that their asset is missing and they know who took her and this should all be settled. Or call the cops, and just say their friend got kidnapped, I dont think the cops will pay much attention to the guy ranting about fish hybrids or whatever.

Beth's group is both weird AND stupid if its such a big deal that Beth is a Pownall several generations back. So what if they are related to some guy whos been dead for longer than any of you have been alive? Its so stupid, I cant believe the mer-cult didnt just laugh in that guys stupid face.

Speaking of cops, where's Dale? Where are any of the cops? They used to be so prevalent, Dale and that female deputy that was always suspicious, were around a lot. Not so much lately.

Didn't the Mer-Cult steal one of Ryn's fertilized eggs and implant that into a Mer-Cult member?  Beth probably engineered that plan wihout telling Ryn, Ben, Maddie, or Helen, so yes, hella sketchy.  It will be interesting to see if the show has her go to term and deliver a Full Blood mermaid.

I kind of loved that Calvin, who is not always the brightest bulb, was the one who brought Chris' favorite snacks because he knew that smell and taste can help trigger memories. I'm guessing he learned it on some random tv show, but still.

It concerns me that Helen trusts Beth so much. I know that technically they are family, but after all the lying and kidnapping, you'd think that Helen would be a lot more cautious.

Apparently everyone in that group is suspicious and shady as fuck. Why would any of the women call one of the men and tell him to come out to the ranch? FFS. I was with Beth on her "Ryn can have anything she wants" stance. She's trying to ensure the future of their species so if she wants 100 pounds of lobster served on a tray made of emeralds, then DO IT. I get that some of the group have it in their heads that the Pownells are their boogeyman, but again, this is a case of what Ryn wants is what Ryn gets. She's trying to get pregnant so your entire species doesn't die out so if she asks you to tap dance, then you do it with a smile on your face.

Yes, the doctor went into another room and said told the girl lying in bed that she had implanted the first embryo in her and that she would be implanting the second embryo into Ryn.

It didn't look like she had time to implant the second embryo in Ryn before Ian kidnapped her. She gave Ryn a sedative, implanted the first embryo into the other girl, and then the mer-fight happened and Ian took Ryn while that was happening. It looked like the doctor was going into Ryn's room to do the implantation when she discovered that she was missing.

I'm sure Calvin, "Mr. NOT always the brightest bulb" (recently surpassed by Ian "The Dead Reporter") knew Chris favorite snacks and that the smell & taste can trigger a memory by basing it on his own experiences of memory loss after a drunken blackout!!

So, we've got a potentially NOT pregnant Ryn, who desperately wanted "baby" [sic] get her impending pregnancy interrupted and possibly prevented FOREVER by Ian (TDR).  All I can say is "Ian, Ooooh boy, you're in trouble!"
