Were the special effects too cost prohibitive for them to continue on? I've never heard of a network canceling their highest rated show, especially one where most of their shows are getting 1/10th of a decimal in the ratings for most of their shows.

I think they just decided the ratings didnt justify the budget they gave the show. It probably is a normal tv budget but more than their other shows. They should've tried getting with Hulu to see if they'd split the funding.
