Joao confides in Captain Sandy about his heartbreak while promising not to let his emotions get in the way of his work. Chef Mila continues to struggle in the galley, forcing Captain Sandy to make a temporary adjustment. Hannah finds herself in familiar territory as she takes on double duty trying to please unhappy charter guests. Meanwhile, the guests lose more than just their patience, and teach Travis a valuable lesson - that there are no pants in the South of France!

Sandy is going to be sorry she didn't fire Mila on the spot.  You have chef Anastasia.  You just need a 3rd stew.  I don't care how sweet and happy she is while she's serving terrible food.

Scenery is fantastic.

Travis and Jack are a riot together.  Jack (horndog) trying to make nice with Mila and Travis just ignores her.  He's pushing it with Dr. Jen, but she is a piece of work.  He needs to get a haircut for Sandy.  It will grow back, idiot.  A super easy way to please the boss.

Good philosophy Hannah!  Don't stress over what you can't control.  We'll see how long this lasts 🙂

Mila continues to be incompetent,  She can't even cook bacon and pancakes.

How can you screw up Aunt Jemima pancakes???  Does she know how to read the directions?

She's so bad you have to take the guests to a restaurant for lunch.  Wow!

Mila's little passive/aggressive act isn't going to cut it with Hannah.  Dumping all the food on Ana is very childish.  I I was keeping a close eye on that salad.  She will do anything to wreck this.

Spaghetti and meatballs?  I'm not usually a meatball fan.  Give me a sausage instead.  Wrap the meat in some pasta and call it cannelloni.  I would have gone for a veal piccatta.  She had all day to come up with something with a bit more pizzazz.  I was worried for her, but the guests cheered and they got a nice tip so it's all good.

Raw meat carpaccio really is a thing.  I had no idea.  I'd try it, wth.

Dessert was a home run.

No Hannah, she's plotting.  Don't buy her "oh, I'll just roll with it" act.  Nice of her to dress in black for the farewell.  I hope it's an omen.

Joao and Brooke, just no.  Enough.

The carpaccio looked and sounded delicious to me, I would order that in a restaurant. I’ve always wanted to try that dessert, too. Not excited by the idea of the spaghetti and meatballs no matter how good they are, but overall it did seem like a great dinner and I’m glad the guests had one decent meal on that boat.

Jack and Travis are adorable. Anastasia really has her shit together. Hannah hasn’t gotten on my nerves once yet this season.

Another good episode.

Mila:  You're a total fraud.   I was standing right behind Hannah when she basically told her she was a shit chef.

Ana did great especially with the pressure that was put on her to serve a great dinner.

Love the scenery porn.

I love carpaccio when it’s prepared correctly. It’s not just piled up raw on a plate.

Captain Sandy was on Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen tonight and said she didn’t know a lot of what happened in the kitchen until she actually watched the episodes. She was horrified by what she saw Mila do.

Jack irritates me. That scene where he does that male thing where they pretend dishes stacked according to size is some absurd unrecognizable system in order to prevent being asked to perform the chore again. ..Jack's whole raison d'etre is work avoidance. I'm sure it'll become an issue once Mila is shitcanned. I've read that she's a plant. I don't know about that, but it's blatantly obvious she's not a chef. She's not menu planning or capable of juggling timings for the buffets she's been skating by on let alone cooking and plating sensational food. Anastasia isn't up to yacht charter standard either otherwise they could demote Mila to 3rd Stew and all would be in balance. I've heard we get Ben back. I'm not averse as long as I don't have to look at his rabbity girlfriend.

We saw Hannah's true colors. She had the opportunity to tell Mila just how bad she is with no downside. She could have been bitchier about it and it needed to be said, particularly as the tip relies on the food above all else. Her comment that Mila's attitude either means she's patient or is used to it happening (getting demoted in her own galley ) was very perceptive.

Looks like Collie is on another homesick arc. Round 2 and he's still not getting any action. I live for hearing his Mom call him 'Collie'..(this has also been noted in the Watch What Crappens podcast universe!).

Hate CPT Sandy's mixed message management style. I also LOATHE that we are getting Joao's sadsack sensitive guy side only of the 'Brooke cheated on me ' break up.

One of the guests talked about eating pineapples because of what it makes her vagina taste like.

🙄

These guests.

Villefranche sur Mer is like next door to Nice.  So they could easily stay in port though for privacy at night, they could anchor further away I guess.

But they don't seem to be venturing further away, to like secluded beaches that can only be reached from the water, like in previous BD or BDM seasons.

Just seems weird to take a "super yacht" just a few miles over.  There are a lot of nice seaside towns and little coves and stuff.

But I guess it's mostly a floating hotel and restaurant.

Someone on Reddit pointed out how weird it was that Mila stocked Old El Paso taco shells, Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Reddi Whip whipped cream, but didn't have boxed cake mix. In hindsight, it's so fucking weird.

Anastasia may or may not end up being a decent cook, but she's clearly better than Mila and clearly understands presentation and plating more than Mila ever did.

I'm kinda hoping that Jack and Travis develop a Ross and Ashton type bromance. That's what I need from them.  A fuckboi bromance.

Sandy Yawn's Sensitive Rehabilitation of Joao Franco is not working for me, especially in relation to to Brooke. I remember last season. He was a gleeful dickcheese who happily played Brooke and Kasey against each other.

Weirdly enough in the marathon from season 2 Max the deckhand made the same reference to Hannah and Lauren when they were eating pineapple.

I mean it’s weird because she is a chef on a small sized yacht with a presumably decent sized food budget but in the area there are suppliers who are supplying large cruise ships and some of the lower end ones who stock such “American” products because there clients like them and their is a secondary market for people buying them in smaller quantities and selling them to tourists.

How Mila to be more dramatic about Anastasia being a vegan than Anastasia doing what she had to do to get the job done and calmly taste the meatball and spit it out with no fuss so she knew it was seasoned properly.

Sunday night, Bravo re-aired the first episode from this season with added facts & comments from the crew and production.  On the topic of Mila's provisioning, she spent somewhere around $25,000 (USD) for the provisions for the first charter.  She ordered something like 30-40 cans of RediWhip for that charter.  It was noted that it could have been a conversion error, similar to the one where she didn't order enough milk (that caused Anastasia & Jack to wander around looking for a grocery store).  In any event, they had so much food provisions delivered, it took all day to figure out where to store them.  Maybe some of it was a "conversion" error--though I'd think that chef trained in either Russia or France would be on the same metric system.  And even the shittiest of culinary schools (because we all know her ass didn't graduate from Cordon Bleu any more than the fry cook at a roller rink concession stand did) teaches something about supply management.  So I firmly believe she faked all of her credentials.  (Whether or not she's a producer plant, I could go either way.)  Also knowing the money dropped on the provisions for the first charter makes the OEP tacos and chips even more galling.  And while Anastasia's spaghetti & meatballs was far from imaginative, at least it was plated nicely and was edible.  Her carpaccio looked a little thickly cut, and it kind of looked like a pile of deli meat on the plate, but at least it didn't come from a can or a microwave.

Loooooved hearing Colin's mom!  Don't get the Sandy/Jaoa relationship at all.  Jack is always saying something like, "I love a woman who isn't afraid to embarrass herself" and "I love a woman who tells me what to do"....hell, even "I'd fuck hot Hitler"....he's such a horndog but I kinda want to know what kind of woman he'll profess to love next week.  Maybe, "I love a woman with a beard and a milky eye!"

I think the reason that I am not enjoying this season is that it feels so contrived. I know that the producers and cast feel pressure to drum up drama and I'm game, but it needs to still feel like some of it is organic.  Mila seems like an obvious plant.  During the one season when they have an absolute crap chef, they just happen to have a stewardess that is a trained chef? Also the level of Mila's ineptness seems like a put on. You don't need to have any training to create fluffy pancakes. The key is making sure the batter is not too thick or runny, which is not hard to do.  In a pinch, you can add an egg to the batter.  I am a very basic cook and I have no problem making fluffy pancakes or my own homemade batter.

Also, Joao is pining over Brooke?  Did they expect us to forget that he vacillated between liking Brooke and Kasey all last season?  I never had the impression he was in love with Brooke and now Joao is acting like she was the love of his life.

Not buying any of it.

That scene between Sandy and Joao was soooo awkward.  You could tell he was over it, and she kept milking it -- "it's ok to cry, no really you should go cry, that's how you'll heal."  "I'm here for you, you're a good person."  And then, ridiculously, "I love you."  You could tell when she went in for that third (or whatever fourth?) hug, he was just humoring her at that point and wondering when it would mercifully end.

Jack is just cracking me up.  He is so jolly in everything he says/does, even if it's ridiculously profane.  I guess you could say the same for Aesha, in Hannah's words, "the dirtiest bitch I've ever met."

Props to Anastasia for making a meal the charter guests could consume and even enjoy, but the incongruity of people in tuxedos and gowns eating spaghetti and meatballs was a little jarring.  You could see how nervous Sandy was during that meal, watching for everyone's reaction.

Sandy's talking-to with Mila showed that she (Sandy) subscribes to the management philosophy of "praise first, then criticize." Except she hardly got to the criticize part at all!  She should have said, you are skating on thin ice for the rest of the charter, Anastasia will be chef and you will answer to her, with no attitude.  Otherwise this is your last day on this boat.  Why hasn't she fired her already?!?

I do not doubt anyone's ability to make pancakes from scratch or otherwise so why if Mila was not having success with her batter why wouldn't she get her phone and google a recipe?

Also, on other charters Capt. Lee always managed to get Chef Ben back on board or whoever to replace a faultering crew member, (it's the go to move for the producers) but since Mila has put herself out there on IG in a bikini my guess is that the producers will get her in a bikini before she makes her exit.

Why didn't Capt. Sandy just tell Mila to order catering from some upscale restaurant for the guests?

I have been to Monte Carlo and it is nuts, densely built up hillsides of million dollar plus high rise condo's and the harbor is full of insane mega yachts with quite a few belonging to Putin's henchmen complete with armed guards walking the decks, so I thought it was interesting that Mila was talking about Putin when they were in Monte Carlo.

Also, (again) that stu Aesha is unbelievably crude, facinated by her bum and all that comes out of it, I would not find that amusing and would not be laughing with her.  I would not want her as a bunk mate.

Even if was a conversion error, there really shouldn't be a need to have RediWhip on the ship. If you have heavy cream, you can make whipped cream. Her decision-making is baffling. Why stock Aunt Jemima pancake mix, but clearly not follow the directions and fuck up the pancakes?

Her hard on for Joao is really both unsettling and mysterious. Always has been. The real baffling piece to me was her reassuring him "you did nothing wrong." Um, how exactly does she know this? Because he was such a great boyfriend initially? I'm not ready to accept the cheating rumors just because Joao said so. Maybe Brooke cheated or maybe not (she says she didn't) but it seems from his activities last season that he would be the more likely cheater. And if he's making this all up for sympathy, yeah, he's not a good guy. I guess this season is his redemption arc?

To me, a cook would know that you don't heavily beat pancake batter.  And, it's supposed to be pretty thick when you pour it on skillet.  In fact, mine is normally so thick that I can't pour, but, have to scoop with spoon.

May I put spoiler on this thread in tags or post over on the Media thread? Anyone know?

She also seems to spend way more time in the crew work areas (galley, mess, deck) while they're working than Captain Lee does, but is way more clueless than he is about what's actually going on.

I think all her talk of "I've learned my lesson, I'm going to be X kind of boss from now on, if I wake up thinking about you, that's your last day on the boat, etc." belies an internal conflict between exerting her authority and being liked.

Sandy should be blamed and should have fired Mila after the first charter. Period.

She should have said. "Cook for me, two dishes, right now, you have 30 minutes." If the Vomiting Vladimir Lover can't think on the fly and the food wasn't absolutely spectacular fire her.  After seeing the lazy tacos and nachos Sandy should have been checking every meal to see what was going on. She knows it's not right and didn't need Hannah to tell her. She saw the half assed effort herself.

The Chef isn't a position like the deck crew where the captain can give them a "rah rah you can do it, one more chance" speech and they can learn as they go not affecting the guest experience in a major way for the most part.

Below Deck Med is really slipping down into the "I really don't need to watch this" rankings. While I'm always interested in seeing the original BD this has always been 2nd rate and this season it's slipped even lower.

If Mila isn't fired next episode I'm gonna have to quit this bitch because between her shitty attitude and even shittier cooking (I wouldn't feed her slop to pigs), and Jack's idiotic slacker bullshit, and Aesha's literal stream of verbal diarrhea, and sourpuss face 'other deck hand dude', this season blows.

Captain Sandy's love of Joao knows no bounds apparently. It's not his fault Brooke cheated on him....how do we even know what happened there given what a shitbag Joao showed himself to be last season? And now he's her 'little protoge' because, and I quote, "He's really grateful..." That's Sandy Yawn to a T - if you suck up to her and act grateful to be in the presence of The Great Captain Sandy, she'll be your bud. Fuck that. She's just as bad as the rest of them.

And her 'friends' are gross and declasse. I know her specialty is sexual dysfunction issues but she just spews idioms and factoids to shock and awe those around her. Attention much Ms. Berman? Oh wait, you're a pal of Sandy's so the attention whore thing makes sense.

I'm pretty sure this is the season I quit this shitshow. After last night's epi was over my husband said, "I wasted an hour of my life for that shit?"

Absolutely!! Why is Sandy blowing smoke up her ass? I have yet to see the passion Sandy was talking about when Mila is cooking. It’s the same passion I have when I open a box of taco shells or open a can of tuna fish....none. It would seem that finding a third stew would be easier than a chef last minute. I do, however think there will be a change, but it won’t involve Ben.

With the mix Mila was using, you already do, but that may explain the problem she was having. She may have been too full of herself to look at the instructions (which even have drawings of what you add), thought she had the just-add-water version, and was confused when the pancakes weren't coming out right.

I don't think it has to do with grooming, I just think it's sheer laziness which is kind of Jack's MO. It doesn't look like he doesn't take care of his hair, it looks washed and clean, he just isn't pulling it back.

Collie- grow up a little bit, hon. Nice enough guy but who says you have to have things in common with the rest of the crew? Just get along and work. That's what you're there for.

The thing is Colin is a normal guy who must be pretty lonely on this cruise. When you have a bunch of alcoholic screw ups who don't pull their weight after a while it gets you down. Joao seems to put up with a lot from lazy Jack Off and too cool for school Travis. Joao is always calling on Colin to do stuff and there are innumerable scenes of Colin working and scenes of the other two jabroni's standing around chatting or smoking. Is Joao afraid to tell them to cut the shit and get to work? Is his nice guy act stopping him for reading them the riot act and forcing them to pull their weight?

In one of the previews we saw a scene where Joao tells Travis that putting you hands on someone is cause for dismissal. Who did he put his hands on? If it was one of the stews he would be fired on the spot. I doubt it was Mila since I think she will be fired next episode. The logical victim is Colin who probably cracked wise and Travis decided to make it physical because he is not smart or quick enough to do it verbally. So these talking heads are foreshadowing and setting the scene.

I find most of the crew to be repulsive to be honest. I would only be able to hang out with Anastasia and Colin. As for the rest of them if we were going out for dinner I would go to a different restaurant.

Don't mess with Aunt Jemima.  She's got The Butterworth for back up.

The secret to box pancake mix is French Vanilla coffee creamer.

Jack is sooooo lazy, but he cracks me up.  I don't get the hair issue as it is clean....I've got waves and curls with a similar haircut to Jack's. ..would Sandy make me do a woman bun?  If it was in the kitchen, I get it.

What's the difference between Jack and Sandy's hair except texture?

And stop with the "Joao pines for Brooke" storyline.  Just let him do his work, manage his crew and get along with Hannah.

There's a point where I felt for Casey and Brooke and the whole triangle thing and then there's the point where they knew he was bouncing back and forth and they still sought his affection.  Which is when I stopped feeling for the girls.  Neither of the girls chose to stop playing that game.

If  I was on a charter and served dry pasta with meatballs with no sauce I would send it back. And demand that they give me sauce to dip my Italian bread in. Jeez.

How is it possible that the think spaghetti and meatballs is an acceptable main course for the last night on a very expense cruise? In a way this is just as bad as the Old El Paso tacos. It is just because they are building up Anastasia that they are not giving her the same beating they gave Mila. Look they hated the first course which was an epic fail. The second course is just not enough for a cruise. The desert was good if as she said very simple. Ice cream with espresso poured on it. That's good enough.

If she was going to do Italian how about a seafood risotto. I would suggest that Anastasia download a copy of "Big Night." Maybe if they did Louie Prima would show up for a cruise.

And they made it appear that Mila dressed the salad long before the guests were seated.  OMG, I can't imagine how soggy it must have been when served.   That's really something you do toward the end and what if someone wants dressing on the side?  I do that always.  I like only a smidgen on my salad.  Most places drown their salad in dressing. Such a turnoff.

What's the problem with steamed lobster, pan seared scallops with a nice vegetable and risotto.  Or even just a rice pilaf?

When I think of an Italian dinner I think of the one Chef Adam did the last time Dr. Jennifer Berman was the yacht... Caprese salad, mozzarella salad... Lasagna, truffle fettuccine and pomodoro. Ugh I am hungry now....

I can't believe Captain Sandy keeps giving Mila compliments...

You could look at it that way, or you could look at it as how completely inedible and how hungry were those people that spaghetti and meatballs was an acceptable black tie meal?  Because let me tell you, they don't serve that on Formal Night on most budget cruise lines.

I can't believe Captain Sandy keeps giving Mila compliments...

I think the problem is that Sandy likes to soften the blow with a compliment, but doesn't always put enough sauce on the blow to make it the take-away, if you get what I'm saying.

Is his nice guy act stopping him for reading them the riot act and forcing them to pull their weight?

...

I find most of the crew to be repulsive to be honest. I would only be able to hang out with Anastasia and Colin. As for the rest of them if we were going out for dinner I would go to a different restaurant.

Exactly.  I'm actually Team Colin on this one.  I can't stand Jack, Travis is okay, I guess and Aesha annoys the fuck out of me with her vulgarity = hilarity routine.
