S06.E02: Flush with Love

Wow, Quinn really went off the rails!

Awww, poor Enzo. He genuinely loved Diana and he finally realized that she felt like she was settling by being with him. I knew a couple like that - the woman was in a management position and the guy was blue collar. Ultimately she couldn't handle being with someone who wasn't the way Diana described Charles (cultured, sophisticated man of the world).

The only good thing to come out of Enzo and Diana's breakup was Lauren saying that now she and Diana can hit the bars together - as soon as she edits Diana's look. Ha! I definitely need to see Lauren giving Diana a makeover and then going out.

I can't believe that Enzo took Diana back after she said he wasn't the man of her dreams. GIRL. I understand what she was saying but that was a crappy way to say it.

Kelsey was taking all of this stuff way too personally and projecting her insecurities onto everyone else's decisions.

I can't blame the Uber driver for not wanting Clare to give birth in the back of his car. You are definitely getting a cleaning charge, Maggie!

Very sweet story about Diana and Enzo and the story written in her own words. Using her words to set up the Josh and Liza story again, so soon and somewhat in reverse is really quite annoying even with the continuing lack of chemistry between her and Charles.

The funniest scene was the Uber drive to the hospital and Claire stating that she and Maggie are bonded for life because they are the only people who have ever been inside her mother has hilarious.

So these first two episodes only spanned Kelsey's first week as an editor?

Liza's championing of Kelsey is getting more and more unrealistic. And that stupid argument they had after Liza told her about Charles' suggestion, where Kelsey jumped from one assumption to the next and Liza was unable to string 3 sentences together to tell her what the conversation they had was really about?

And Zane wants to date Kelsey now? NOW? With all signs pointing towards Zane and Charles going into business together (and possibly splitting up Empirical and Millenial, so that Kelsey is stuck with Empirical?)

I'm here for Diana's switch from statement necklaces to statement earrings and shut up Lauren, if there's one person not in need of a makeover on this show it's Diana! Better take care of Liza who looked terrible with those two bobby pins sadly placed above her temples in limp hair and the burlap cape (the Nancy Pelosi/Melania outfit was miles better).

Anyhow I loved Diana's plot. I loved her sashaying out of the meeting about the focus group vetting (which was hilarious and kudos to the lady presenting the data). She screwed up with Enzo, but the voice-over in her words at the end was great. Maybe she should switch to writing herself. Enzo and Diana are the only couple worth rooting for but that's hardly news anymore.

Kelsey keeps being the most grating character and I have no idea why Liza is still supporting her. She's paranoid and insecure and can't handle pressure. Reverse-engineering a movie-script is hardly the stroke of genius Liza claimed it to be. And her taking a strong stance with Quinn wasn't convincing either. Also not making sense: Kelsey getting back in bed with Zane (yes, he is hot - but he is also trouble and she knows it).

Liza and Charles have a cloud of doom hanging above their heads. When they embraced at the end I was hoping the camera would not swerve around to show us Liza's concerned face. But of course they went there.

Josh and Liza shopping for baby stuff was once again great and annoying at the same time. They have an easy chemistry together but are we supposed to root for them?

Finally a great Diana episode that centers her POV! It's like after 5 seasons they finally realized Miriam Shor is in the cast and can do a lot more than be the butt of every joke. (Hey, maybe they watched The Americans!)

Absolutely. I love Lauren but noooo. And I agree that Liza's outfit in the cold open was much better than most things she ever wears, it was super cute.

I did think maybe Diana should try her hand at writing. Most people in publishing had writer dreams at some point so it wouldn't be out of nowhere (which is what it so often is on TV).

That headshot of Kelsey at the event was hysterical. It wasn't that she looked younger than everyone else, it's that it looked like a submission for soft porn.

And her little tantrum at Liza was ridiculous.

Diana does NOT need a makeover, she looks fabulous as it is damn it! She and Enzo are sweet, and her article for him was really nice.

If Kelsey wants to be taken seriously as a publisher, maybe she should stop pitching fits and being all defensive when people offer options and opinions? Its not some huge insult to say that Kelsey does not have much experience in this job because...its true! She really is pretty young for this position, and getting advice from seasoned pros is not some admittance of lack of competence, and Liza taking Charles giving advice based on his years of experience as some big insult to her bestie is just ridiculous.

Liza and Charles so obviously have an expiration date, as Liza clearly has lingering feelings for Josh and doubts about Charles (hence the hugging look of conflict) so thats all going to happen at some point. I am not a huge fan of Charles, but he really does seem to love Liza with his whole heart, and made a lot of sacrifices for them, while Liza already has one foot out the door. Like I said last week, not that she is required to stay with him because he loves her more than she loves him, but it still is going to really hurt, especially after everything.

I thought she said she was no longer looking for the man of her dreams because she loved the man dreaming beside her. Something like that? I thought it was very sweet, since the thrust of their argument and everything else she wrote in her piece was that she had let go of the type of man that would tick off all the boxes because she'd found something better.

I wouldn't mind Laurent giving Diana  makeover just for the hilarity of it all. Imagine Diana's face as Lauren shows her pre-ripped jeans pr a neon spaghetti strap tank top. Ha, or if she took Diana to those weirdo designers from a few seasons ago!

I'm glad that they laid off a lot of the really matronly looking things they did to Diana during the first season. They did everything within their power to make her look older than she really was. They probably did it to highlight the difference between Liza and Diana but in real life, Miriam is only four years older than Sutton. I hated the hair and clothes they gave to Diana for most of the first season. Miriam was 43 when they began filming S1 and most women I know that age do NOT dress the way she did. They made her look so dowdy and frumpy.

Yes.  After watching this I realized that in reality, there should have been something put into place at transition (not sure what exactly) that addressed how Kelsey was going to learn the things she hasn't had exposure to.

I am not so sure that it's feelings for Josh per se, but more feelings of regret at what could have been theoretically and what Josh represents (the youth/excitement), and the fun exploration of another side of herself...but all of that is divorced from the actual things that always left her unsatisfied with him (not to mention his youthful/puppy dog ways that haven't served him well in terms of decision-making).

I didn't understand the point of the gender reveal party - didn't Josh say in the previous episode that he was having a girl? I guess it was an excuse to bring everyone together. Kelsey and Liza's relationship was already compromised from the moment she got that promotion. If you're going to be a boss than act like a boss but you can't still be "besties" in the workplace and then throw tantrums when your colleague is offering advice, especially from the former owner. Charles is still on the board as a chair if I recall from last season. Is Kelsey always going to pull a "whose side are you on??" then go all Miranda Priestly on Lizad every time she doesn't agree with her? Ugh, so unprofessional.

I agree with you about the change in her wardrobe since season 1 but I still think they're dressing her on the matronly side, plus statement necklaces are so 4 years ago already that even they are trying to break away from them with her.  They've definitely given her her own look but I think it does need to be updated and softened a bit.

Whatever the show is trying to do with this couple, I'm not buying it completely.  It doesn't fit together well at all.  Much is said about the lack of chemistry between Liza and Charles but I wonder if it also has something to do with the ambiguous direction the show is taking with them.  I think they're trying to keep them on shaky ground to be able to introduce problems between them just for the plot's sake.  The show isn't about to let Liza find her end game just yet.  There always has to be the threat of Josh in the wings and the "will she/won't she" with both Josh, Charles and perhaps even a new guy lurking in the wings to keep things interesting.  As I see it, the problem is that the way they've chosen to accomplish that isn't really very convincing or entertaining.

In the bloopers, Laura Benanti is a really good ad-libber. And I loved Miriam Shor saying she couldn't lift her arm because her bracelet weighed 50 pounds. They really load her up, hee. I hope the show pays for a physical therapist/chiropractor for her.

Could Kelsey - for once - not make out with a guy at a work function? Girl, get it together. All eyes are on you. Stop acting like some college freshman at a keg Party. AND OH MY GOD FIX YOUR FOUNDATION AND HIGHLIGHTER!!!!

This line actually really bothered me.  How did Claire know about this?  Did her mother tell her?  If so, ewww.  My sex life is strictly off limits with my kids, who are about the same age of the younger people in the cast.  Granted, my kids are male, and maybe it's different with girls and their mothers?  I know my sons easily discuss their sex life with their father, and he with them (we've been divorced for years), but I am off limits...I remember a couple of years ago, my ex started telling our oldest a story about me, and said oldest cut him off quickly with a "Dude, that's my MOM!"...

Anyway, I digress...so how did Claire know?  I can't imagine Maggie, Liza, or Kelsey would have told her, which leaves Josh (who doesn't like secrets) or Lauren (who can't keep a secret), but it still bugs me.  I really wish Maggie would have asked her in the car, maybe a "how did you...never mind".

Obviously, I'm thinking about this WAY too much...

So help me if they ditch Claire and split up Liza and Charles so that Liza can get back together with Josh and Josh can have a baby. I never bought the Liza and Josh relationship. And if Liza is gonna flip flop back and forth that much then every guy should run from her because she is trouble.

I really think it just depends on the actual people involved. I'm female and I absolutely do NOT discuss sex with my mother. But I do with my father. So it's not an opposite sex parent thing, it's a "my father talked about it and my mother didn't" thing.

It's difficult to imagine Quinn's book being that hated given the kind of stuff that gets published. As long as it's well-written, there are plenty of bestsellers with "tone" problems.

I'm oddly mesmerized by Diana's insane pearl earrings.

Quinn going full McConnaughey in Wolf of Wall Street was not funny. None of this is funny. Did this show used to be funny?

I get that Kelsey is her friend but it's ridiculous for Liza to suggest that Kelsey is totally ready to run a publishing company. I want to champion young women too but come on. We've had season after season of her being unprofessional with authors and almost running into disaster. It's not offensive for Charles to think she needs time to grow into being a great publisher.

I'm a little annoyed that we keep doing this same plot with Enzo and Diana. But it does feel realistic for her to not quite be over Charles given the first few seasons.

I love Laura Benanti. I don't know how I want this deal to go. I kind of hope Claw succeeds so she'll stick around. At least she's a straight-shooter on this show of people lying and hiding and being cowards.

The pregnancy hijinks were boring and not funny.

OMG, show, leave me ALONE. I can't believe they're still trying to leave the door open for Josh and Liza. ENOUGH ALREADY.
