The 10-episode, hour-long drama series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne's legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who's not yet Bruce's father, in 1960s London.

In addition to Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game, Ripper Street) and Ben Aldridge (Our Girl, Fleabag), cast members include multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith, Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Polly Walker (The Mentalist, Rome) and Emma Corrin (The Crown).

Pennyworth is from executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI series). Production on the series is currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, in the UK; Pennyworth is the first television series to film at Leavesden.

A native of Norwich, England, he says he was too busy putting on shows in living rooms as a kid to pore over comic books. To prepare for Alfred, "It was hard to not go back and use other performances as a safety blanket. But this Alfred is unique because he's optimistic, cheeky and flirtatious. The world is his oyster."

Viewers will not only see Pennyworth meet Wayne, Heller promises, they'll also witness the early courtship between Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and his future wife, Martha (Emma Paetz), as well as Easter eggs and foreshadowing of other characters from the future Batman universe.

Not to mention Jaguars and horsecarts and computers and 1960s clothing. "This is not a superhero show," Bannon says. "It's a character-driven drama and very stylized, and we're all excited by it. Every day when I went to the studio, I counted myself as the luckiest man in the world."

First off lets define a common used term on the show "SAS". Courtesy of Wiki:

The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. The SAS was founded in 1941 as a regiment, and later reconstituted as a corps in 1950.[5] The unit undertakes a number of roles including covert reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, direct action and hostage rescue. Much of the information and actions regarding the SAS is highly classified, and is not commented on by the British government or the Ministry of Defence due to the sensitivity of their operations

Pennyworth Season 2 has been announced as premiering December 13 on EPIX. Here’s the official logline for Jessica’a character “Melanie Troy.”

While no official word on a third season has been announced, but WarnerMedia and Epix are in talks to share PENNYWORTH if it is renewed. Having PENNYWORTH on HBO Max will be fantastic. It took moving to HBO Max from DC Universe Online for more people to discover DOOM PATROL.

Sources say Epix and HBO Max will likely end up sharing Pennyworth, with the streamer getting the first window to season three. Epix would air the third season of the Jack Bannon starrer at a later date. HBO Max would be home to the first two seasons of Pennyworth, with Epix also having the right to air repeats of the drama about the former British SAS soldier who goes to work for a young billionaire named Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge).

Reps for Epix, Warners and HBO Max declined comment as a deal has not yet been closed.

Sources say Epix executives had yet to make a decision on the future of Pennyworth, which wrapped its 10-episode second season April 11, when execs from HBO Max reached out with the offer to take over the series as an original.
