When you discussed that episode, you all talked about The Germans being a more famous episode and really funny. I'm not sure if that's a matter of remembering something fondly that is problematic when you go back to it with different context.

I really don't remember having seen the "n" scene with the Major, so it's possible I only ever saw it as edited by PBS.

That game time was crazy. Sorry PICCI totally screwed you over, Tara. I played along and kept score for each person's questions separately; there is an 18 point difference between what I would have scored in Sarah's positions vs Tara's. But Sarah did play quite well, and this does make for a very exciting game time next week.

Also, I would not have gotten the Firefly clue, but then Tara said "every game time" and I knew what it had to be. :)

When Jolene ShoWest and her son, Idris Melba, take in traumatized neighbor girl, Cherry Fallon, little did they know that one day she would blossom into The Flashiest, the fastest quick-change artist in the world, as well the best outfitted!  Cherry's support team is Frisco, the tech guy from the North Texas computer scene, Calvin Recline as Cherry's bio science geek/doctor, and the mysterious Dr. Ringma Belles, who is secretly the Reverse Flashiest, aka The Zipper!

In the early days, Cherry- nicknamed The Streak by the media- faced a slew of bitches trying to take her spotlight. They include:

* Mistress Mirror, who steals all the mirrors so everyone else's looks suffer in comparison.

*Heatwave, who due to a tanning bed accident can raise the ambient temp of a room, crashes catwalks to melt queens' make-ups everywhere!

*The Pied Piper, a poor queen trying to make parti-colored anything and recorders A Thing after a soul-crushing firing from Medieval Times.

I thought the same thing as I was listening to the episode! I knew that his reaction to a *gasps, clutches pearls* black doctor was going to be problematic, but I don't remember the scene with the Major in the bar at all! Also, I was sad that they left out the discussion between the Major and the moose. "I speak English very well. I learned it from a booook."

I know this is kind of obvious, but Once upon a Time would be a lot more fun if most of the villains were played by drag queens.  In season four, when Cruella (101 Dalmatians), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), and Maleficent (Snow White) showed up, I thought, I like these actresses, but they're just not biting into their dialogue and the scenery the way a drag queen would.  Ginger Minj (RuPaul's Drag Race, season 7) would have killed it as Ursula.

The conversation about the Fawlty Towers episode was really interesting, and I appreciate it when dumb comedies can inspire discussion of Serious Issues. For what that's worth.

And that Game Time was so fun! I keep thinking I could come up with a game myself, but I don't think I actually have the patience to come up with that many questions.

Brandon explains to President Roslin why he just can't with her super-strict ways. As he's explaining things to the President, she nods and walks, having him walk with her. He thinks she's showing him the door when he is through. He is sort of right.

Mr. Actionmage turned to me after the episode and said, " I think we did pretty good on that [Game Time]! " After a beat, he added, "Because we're old. "   Which, true.  I am so excited for the next EHG, as always, but it's even a bit more goosed because I don't remember a Game Time season going this far.

Liv ( and Leah) are fun; I hope they continue to have fun with this.

Being Human. Absolutely the sort of show I'd probably enjoy (I've watched practically every episode of Doctor Who - certainly from the last 30 years, Buffy, Angel and I've even seen most of Charmed) but somehow - I never get round to it. And it's not like it would take much effort - I'm sure I could catch most episodes on iPlayer - I just haven't. And you can't make me!

My opinion of Jerry Seinfeld is the same as my opinion of the Three Stooges:  I acknowledge that they are part of the Comedy Canon, and they certainly deserve to be there.  I acknowledge that they have made generations of people howl with laughter.  That's great.  But I have seen enough episodes of Seinfeld to know that it's not my personal taste in humor.  So even though I have several friends who say that Seinfeld is The Greatest Television Comedy Ever, I'm never going to get through a season of it.

Ha! Before you even mentioned it, I had determined mine was The Wire.

Same here. I'm almost doing it out of spite at this point. Every time I post something about a TV show being good I have a friend who yells at me for still not having watched The Wire. He's made me hate it without having seen it. Even if it's excellent I'm pretty sure it doesn't negate all other shows from being good right? Ugh.

I'm amazed Tara had never seen an episode of old Trek. And yes, they went back to the Mirror Universe a few (too many) times on DS9 (where yes, Intendant Kira was the primary villain) and once on Enterprise (its penultimate episode, in fact). And great reference to Garth as the other originator of the "Beard = Evil" trope (suck it, Satan!).

Game time was completely impossible (for me, anyway), even when I could work out the show, so kudos to anyone who got them. And yes, Hot Cross Buns are an Easter Thing (Good Friday, to be exact), that's why they have a cross on them.

Hi, I have a question for Sarah, and I hope it's OK to ask it here since you mentioned Serial in this week's EHG. First, I've enjoyed the addition of your true crime corner (complete with spooky music) to the podcast. But I was wondering if you could recommend any other good true crime podcasts? I've listed to Serial, and I listed to Undisclosed, Criminal and Crime Writers On... And I also listed to Breakdown, which I really enjoyed. Since you seem to be a bit of an expert on the subject, I was wondering if you had any others to recommend? I've done some searching, and am not sure about where to go next. Thanks so much!

Also, listed means listened every single time I wrote it! I'm not sure what brain trauma caused that.

A) Which re-occurring Simpsons character should host SNL? Moe, who could be his own musical guest too, or Groundskeeper Willie. If Willie, the musical guest should be Garbage!

B)If you could build a boy/girl band from TV characters, who and what stereotypes would they be?  Rogelio De La Vega[ Jaime Camil, Jane the Virgin, CW] as The Pretty One, Scott Nichols [Jesse L. Martin, Smash, NBC] as The Voice, Jessie Katsopolis [ John Stamos, Full House, ABC] as The Drummer, and Gregory House [Hugh Laurie, House, FOX] as The Deep One. There's always fireworks because they all want to write and have input in the music, as well as favoring various styles. They are incandescent for one album but then implode in the middle of the tour--grandchildren and drugs being the cited causes.

C)Chevy Chase must be inserted into your favorite show, but you pick the name and role. Who is he?   Max Gilbert, donut shop owner in Sleepy Hollow. He hacks off not just Ichabod, but other Sleepyheads due to him charging more for products. Gilbert charges more to compensate for dips in sales after picketing, when Ichabod has taken his rants on taxes and commercialism to the streets.

D)The cheap, overseas knock-off of your favorite show is called___?  Rainy, Mocking Evil Mocking Jim with Alfie the Combat Butler Goodfeels Hour!

E)Which TV character likely has a completely fake resume and is secretly an illiterate grade school drop-out? Red Reddington or Beverly Goldberg

F)If you could only speak in quotes from one TV character for the rest of your life, who would you choose?  Mr. Rogers. I thought of Ernie, from Sesame Street, and Ichabod Crane, from Sleepy Hollow, but Mr. Rogers is pretty cool.

G) What 2 reality shows would you like to smoosh together in the vain hope that the participants kill each other off? Steampunk'd/ Real Housewives (all flavors)

H) It's Downton Abbey, but_____?  Violet and Isobel are artsy-craftsy serial killing cannibals in Creepy Crawleys!!! (Friday nights at 10 PM Eastern, on NBC- right after Grimm!)  Having no other socially acceptable outlets for their anger and frustration, the ladies secretly terrify the counties nearest them and baffle Scotland Yard! The larders never run out of meats and consequences are few.  For a while, especially as the trail seems to lead to a certain lord of standing in the community....

The Tudors.  Yes, the DH and I have been part of the SCA [society of Creative Anachronisms]. Yes, we've worn garb. Yes, we enjoy British programs. Yes, the acting/costumes/writing/everything is great.  No, I'm not watching it, but I appreciate that many folks adore it and are fans wanting to spread the news. I've heard of it, so I don't need to hear more, thank you.

I'm pretty sure Serial is going to be Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder traveling around in a van, solving mysteries, with their sidekick the MailChimp.

In DS9, it was revealed that Spock's efforts paid off, and caused the collapse of the Empire centuries early. unfortunately, this led to Humans being enslaved by an ascendant Bajoran empire

The Enterprise Mirror episode may be the best of that series. It certainly has the best credits:

I would like to apologize, to no one in particular, for the way I shouted "PEPTO BRISTOW!!" at the first game time question (before I realized pepto bismol cannot reasonably be considered a drink the way "ginger ale" can, and that the show is not named after its heroine).

I agree that the game time was really hard. I thought figuring out the food was tougher than coming up with the show, most of the time. Also, I've never heard of hot cross buns being associated with Easter. Then again, I've never even seen them and didn't realize there was actually a cross on them, so...

OMG you guys, that Game Time made me snort-laugh in public, although luckily Hamerica's Next Top Model didn't come around until I was in the house already. That kind of wordplay is my favorite!

I too am amazed that Tara hasn't seen an episode of Star Trek before.

Liv is great as is her mom. My favorite part is hearing her mom explain something to Liv in an age appropriate manner...like famine, freak shows and the apocalypse. That's some impressive parenting right there (and that's sincere, not snark.)

I'm biased because she's my sister, but Leah is for sure the best mom I know.

Thanks for the suggestions! I just started listening to Sword and Scale. It is, how you say, dramatic. Very, dramatic music cues and some sound effects! It was a little jarring at first, but I got used to it, and the stories are pretty interesting. And I hadn't heard of the Generation Why podcast, but I'll check it out. Thanks again!

Teachers: Lydia Grant and CoCo Hernandez (of Fame) come to Honolulu and open a dance school.

Annoying parents: Danny Williams ( with some cause) and Steve McGarrett ( because he's smug and nosy.)

Teacher: Michelle Simms ( of Bunheads) opens a studio in L.A., but is asked by a government official to help out  a small group. ( The geniuses of Scorpion)

Annoying  "parents": Special Agents Cabe Gallo and Adriana Molina, because they didn't authorize the "social graces exercise" [ secretly, Hetty did, though] and Michelle tells them to leave or partner up. They are teased into pairing up.

Teacher: Fanny Flowers (Of Bunheads)

Annoying "parent": Ari Gold ( of The Good Wife), who even called Ms. Flowers in to help Alicia with the campaign's social side. Only, Ari's very nit-picky and he takes over some of the lesson. Eventually, Ms. Flowers and Mr. Gold show Alicia how the dance(s) are to be performed. ( Or there can be a Dirty Dancing-esque three-person dance scene.)
