From Cultbox, Series 12 will show a different side to the 13th Doctor https://cultbox.co.uk/news/doctor-who-series-12-will-show-a-different-side-of-the-thirteenth-doctor

Chibnall's (and the BBC's) need for so much secrecy seems like overkill, though there are quite a few fans who don't like spoilers, so they're probably happy with the intense secrecy

From Cultbox, Chibnall talks about doing more and different historicals in Series 12 https://cultbox.co.uk/general/more-and-different-historical-episodes-in-doctor-who-series-12

From Cultbox, Chibnall gives some interesting new details on the season via an interview with TV and Satellite Week, especially about the first episode https://cultbox.co.uk/news/doctor-who-series-12-new-details-from-chris-chibnall

BBC America and Fathom event to see the first 2 episodes in theaters in the US on Jan 5. Tickets are now available. One theater is close to me so I’m considering going

ETA: I ended up getting a ticket. It will mean seeing the two episodes on a movie screen and seeing the second episode before it's telecast on BBC America. So this should hopefully be fun and will get me out of the house for about 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon

The list and Cultbox are suggesting Spyfall is an actual two parter and the second episode is broadcast on the 12th, suggesting 11 episodes vs 10. Hopefully things will get more clear as we get closer to the premiere

Not to be that guy, but why MI6? Why not UNIT? Especially because it'll obviously be set at least partially in the UK and the entire point of MI6 (as compared to MI5) is they don't operate on British soil.

It appears this will be the first time the show has broadcast a season in Winter (Jan to March) since it was revived. What are ratings like on UK TV in that time period?

@SnideAsides it’s possible UNIT or its agents gets taken out in whatever is happening or is still shut down

Chibnall has confirmed in interviews that the characters of Tesla (guest Goran Visnjic) and Edison (guest Robert Glenister) will be in the 4th episode, written by Nina Metivier. He also indicated that James Buckley will guest in Episode 3

Maybe this crisis will get UNIT their funding back. I hope so, because Doctor Who isn't quite the same without it.

Per someone's tweet, Jodie pretty much confirms she's staying for Series 13 in an interview where she's quoted: "this isn’t the last series I’ll play the doctor". I can't recall the source article, but I saw a scan earlier of a magazine article where she stated it.

Metro interview with Jodie, mostly personal, some show stuff https://www.metro.news/jodie-whittaker/1828043/

Among other things she said, she loves Doctor Who memorabilia and owns a Funko Pop Doctor. While talking about fan-girling, she indicated she was super-enthusiastic about Russell Davies' series "Years and Years" and practically stalked him to let him know how much she loved it. Hopefully she'll team up with Davies down the road; I enjoyed what he did with show-running Doctor Who

I'd much rather she was reprising her SJA role as Rani - would be a nice little nod back at that spin-off to have the character cross over to guest on the main show. Alas, two showrunners later, that is never going to happen.

Take with a grain of salt for now but here’s the supposed information for Episode 3 according to Digiguide:

Airing: Jan 12 at 7:10pm on the BBC

Title: Orphan 55

Synopsis:

Having decided that everyone could do with a holiday, the Doctor takes Graham, Yasmin, Ryan to a luxury resort for a spot of rest and relaxation. However, they discover the place where they are having a break is hiding a number of deadly secrets. What are the ferocious monsters that are attacking Tranquillity Spa? Guest starring Laura Fraser and James Buckley, alongside Jodie Whittaker as the 13th incarnation of the Time Lord, and Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole as her trusty travelling companions.

In a Radio Times video, Jodie, Tosin and Mandip answer fan questions. Lots of fun though I had trouble understanding what they said at times

Bradley Walsh’s CV suggests that he’s staying thru Series 13 as Graham, but it’s hard to say for certain at this early point whether it means the whole season. It would be surprising given how busy Walsh is

If you use Twitter, you can follow several of the show's production folks, but I want to point out that costume designer Ray Holman is on Twitter (@HolmanRay) (he might also have an Instagram account) and he has indicated he will talk about costume design at the appropriate times, which may not be until the end of the season (though possibly after certain episodes as well). Today, he talked about the costumes for Spyfall, Part 1, especially Jodie's tux

Here’s a summary on the remaining 8 episodes as to what's known for sure (and what rumors said it was) and assuming episode order hasn't been switched

Episode 3: Title: Orphan 55. Very scary episode. Directed by Lee Haven Jones and written by Ed Hime

Episode 4: Tesla and Edison in Victorian age in NYC (trailer shows the alien is a scorpion-like creature). Written by Nina Metivier

Episode 5: Nothing known (Rumors were Sea Devils and plastic waste storyline and written by Charlene Jones)

Episode 6: the Judoon episode (Rumors were a fugitive Time Lord named Ruth, writer is Pete McTighe)

Episode 7: Nothing known (Rumor was base under siege type episode with scary creature that can go through walls, but that sounds like Episode 3)

Episode 8: Mary Shelley episode. Written by Maxine Alderton. (Rumors suggest possible appearance by Cybermen).

Episode 9 & 10 is a two-part finale. Nothing is known. (I think there have been rumors of Cybermen)

Not a heck of a lot known at this point, even rumor-wise. The producers/BBC are really keeping things close to the vest. The Master reveal had some leaks but overall they managed to keep it a surprise. It will be really interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. It will also be interesting to see how the reported special later this year/early next year plays out as well

The BBC's listing for Episode 5, "Fugitive of the Judoon" has this for the synopsis:

Ko Sho Blo! Trigger-happy space police the Judoon are targeting 21st-century Gloucester. The Doctor, Yaz, Ryan and Graham race back to Earth in order to prevent them doing too much damage to the cathedral city. But who are they looking for, and what did they do to incur the wrath of the Judoon?

Next-time trailer from the BBC for next week's Judoon episode

It seems BBC America played a trailer after the Tesla episode that was about several upcoming episodes. I don't know when or if they will put it on social media

Also, man, these BBC next-time trailers truly suck. I have been told that the usual BBC America trailers right after an episode are from the BBC, which shows the longer trailer sometime after it shows the next-time trailer. The longer ones are definitely better

Found on another board, from an interview of Chibnall in Empire magazine in their TV section, about the upcoming Mary Shelley episode:

"...we go and meet Lord Byron and Mary Shelley later on in the series. Maxine Alderton wrote that episode, she's a massive aficionado of the Romantics and it's [set on] that night when Shelley was writing Frankenstein. And you're like, these guys are going to want and go and visit them, so, yeah, you're always looking how you can drop these figures in, in unexpected ways."

From the BBC, the synopsis for Episode 7, "Can You Hear Me?"

"From ancient Syria to present day Sheffield, and out into the wilds of space, something is stalking the Doctor and her friends. As Graham, Yaz and Ryan return home to see friends and family, they find themselves haunted by very different experiences. Who is the figure calling from beyond the stars for help, and why? And what are the fearsome Chagaskas terrorising Aleppo in 1380? To find the answers, Team Tardis embark on a mission that forces them to face their darkest fears."

Yes, that's what I hate as new viewer, the year or more wait between seasons. As an American, I usually only wait less than 6 months for a broadcast show to come back in the Fall after it ends in the Spring. Mid-season usually is about a 9 month wait. Cable and streaming can be a pretty long wait for some shows. I'm concerned that Series 13 will be more than a year's wait if they don't start filming soon because I can't see them wanting to broadcast it in the Spring or Summer given the poor ratings climate then. But I guess if they broadcast the special at Christmas or New Year's, then the series in Fall 2021, then that would be less than a year for something Who-related

Of course, the other thing I really hate is the 6 hour wait after the BBC broadcast to see the show on BBC America. I have to do a personal blackout of my social media and Internet viewing for 6+ hours so not to be spoiled
