That permanent I-just-smelled-a-fart face that Meghan is constantly sporting drives me crazy. The show should be called The Vile as long as she sits there. 

She is the least pleasant person on the planet and listening to her makes my eye all twitchy.

I am not convinced.  My mom was older than you and knew even in the 40s that gays, as she would say, should be able to live, love and marry. At this point, I say GOOD that Meghan's father gets attacked, considering she has no sympathy or empathy at all for so many others who are daily attacked by the President's words and actions. Why does she think she should be the exception? I had a professor in law school (Labor Law) with a voice like Ms. Abramson. It was SOOOOO hard to stay awake in that class!

I didn’t not really enjoy jackson Jr and his mom segment either.  Some thing was off.  It was a wonderful idea for a book. 

I thought that segment was weird.  While there may be temp wars in homes first thing that popped into my head was she was asking women who don't have to worry about whether or not they can afford to raise the temp in the home.  Frankly how warm I keep my home depends on my budget.

That was the first thing that popped into my head too, since none of these ladies have to worry about affording heat.  And Sunny only endures the cold because she enjoys being a dutiful wife who obeys her husband.

Whoopi use to be on welfare and Sunny has mentioned before how her family struggled so I have no doubt they experienced    Not being able to afford heat.   They did not mention it so maybe they don’t remember.

They also failed to mention that if a woman is exposed to chickenpox  or measles early in pregnancy, that it can seriously harm the fetus (and sometimes the mother and or the pregnancy) I used to do research on how chicken pox exposure in early pregnancy can cause severe abnormalities in the developing fetus. It was long before the chicken pox vaccine was developed. I was always so fearful of being exposed to someone with chicken pox (because a lot of times you don't even know you have it until many days into the disease) when I was pregnant with my kids. I don't think many people realize some of these lesser known facts.

Manny seems like a cheapskate. Sunny has talked about him saying she uses too much toilet paper and now the heat. She can praise him all she wants I wouldn't want him as a husband. She reminds me of Wendy Williams sometimes except I doubt Manny is abusive like Kevin.

I was born in 1950 and my mom was pregnant with my sister in 1953. I caught chicken pox during my mom's second trimester and she came down with it as well. My sister was born with mild-to-moderate mental retardation.

But sometimes, we think something is wrong because our parents, teachers, and priests have told us it was wrong.  It's difficult to develop a strong conviction that goes against everything you've been taught.  As a teenager, how do you develop ideas that contradict everything all of the adults in your life tell you?   The adults are responsible for teaching you about life, for teaching you right from wrong, and shelter you from knowing about anything that contradicts their way of thinking.  The nuns taught me that even questioning "matters of faith"  would send me to hell.  And everything was a matter of faith.   

I grew up in all all-white neighborhood, went to a private elementary school where everyone was white and catholic.  EVERYONE.   Movies, tv shows, books, were restricted to what was allowed.  Yes, in high school I began to develop other ideas, because I was exposed to people who thought differently, and to books.    But I was careful not to talk about anything at home that might not be inline with what my parents believed.   (except when I decided to cause trouble - then I'd talk about the Vietnam war)  

My first knowledge of homosexuality was a girl in the all-girls high school I attended, who sent a love letter to another girl.  Parents heard of it, complained, and she was expelled.   It was a LETTER.  It was the first time I heard of same-sex relationships. 

this is all to say that people can be programmed to believe a certain way.   It doesn't have to be lifelong, but it often takes leaving the environment you're raised in to be exposed to any other ideas.

MM pulled some statistic out her butt that 70-80% of women were against abortions after the 5th month of pregnancy.  Would love to know the source and the context of that stat.   Abortions after 5 months are rare and are almost always due to a determination that the fetus is not viable or to save the life of the mother.  Women (and men) overwhelming support abortions in those situations.  It is a myth that MM has chosen to loosely support that women are getting abortions "just because" in their final trimester of pregnancy.  

I also love a jewel tone dress and a broach, so I agree both MM and Stacey Abrams looked lovely.

#1 = I have nothing to say to that,  My experience was very different with our very diverse area.  We were working class.  Our community, with the pullout of the Iraq war,  took in thousands of Iraqis and Bengalis and they just were welcome and meshed right in.  They brought their food and we all love another type of food.

#2 = Did you not think that was horrible for the girl?  If a purple being walked down the street and I saw it being beaten I still would know that it was wrong.

Here is the real question - Must empathy be taught or does ones nurture towards bias hold true?

I love your entire post, Tinkerbell.  I also went to Catholic school, first through high school (1946-1958).  Not only were we not taught to challenge any teachings, teachers, parents...we were definitely discouraged from questioning anything or anyone.  My friends and I were innocent and naive.  We were not mean or cruel to anyone, but we didn't have enough experience (yet) to be fully formed human beings.  

Those years in school, I saw only 3-4 boys who were "sissies," and I had no idea what a homosexual was or what they did...male or female.  I just thought those boys were girly and that's it--nothing to do with sex.  No "authority" ever discussed SEX with us (other than Don't Do It)...let alone mentioning people of the same gender having sex with each other.  Sounds like it was different in different parts of the country with "more enlightened" families, school, friends.  Most of us evolve...eventually.
