Joy: Obama wasn't likable, he was lovable!

Meghan: Obviously I disagree with you on that.

Of course you do, Meghan. If he created oxygen you'd rather suffocate to death than say anything positive about him.

And I was laughing soooo hard when Joy interrupted Meghan talking about what candidates SHE backed up - "you're putting yourself in a category of people who ran for President?!"

LOL!!! That's what Meghan gets for constantly talking about me, me, ME with every hot topic when it has nothing to do with her.

And for the thousandth time, it's absolutely down-right ignorant and naive to say that HRC being a WOMAN played zero role in all the criticism she received, so shut up Meghan. Nobody cares who you interviewed or supported for Presidency.

And before I forget, I watched the entire R. Kelly docuseries. I always knew he was a POS pedophile scumbag but I learned many more details during the series and he is a more disgusting POS than I ever could've imagined. Many in the black community continue to defend him and it's sickening.

For some (maybe more) HRC being a woman was a problem. But, there are others who don't like her for very valid reasons. She was loved by many and had a hard time due to her vagina, but people like me disliked her due to her foreign policy record. She apologized for some and praised herself for others, but the lives left behind doesn't change due to her words.

I do think her femaleness was an issue for some. But I wish the View had someone who had an actual valid issue with HRC just to provide a different point of view.

As for R.Kelly I think those in the black community is so use to people going after black men with no proof and ruining their lives. R.Kelly was huge, so people were more protective. But the women he targeted were black women who no one really cares about, which made people overlook it. It's a shame too, because it was known for so long.

I gritted my teeth and girded my loins and watched Kamala Harris....glad I did. Haven't watched The View in months. Won't watch again unless there's someone I really, really want to hear.

Regarding her comments about breaking barriers...

  • Jeannette Pickering Rankin
  • Shirley Anita Chisholm
  • Sandra Day O'Connor
  • Geraldine Anne Ferraro
  • Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright
  • Nancy Patricia Pelosi
  • Barack Hussein Obama II
  • Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton

...On the backs of all of them...

Oh definitely, her policies were for sure an issue for many and I'm not disagreeing with that. But Meghan's "I don't look at the gender, I look at who is the best candidate" stance is simply naive. The articles I read about HRC, the interviews I watched, the comments on social media - a lot of things she was criticized for would've never been said had she been a man. Every part of her being has been picked apart for nearly 3 decades and I'm of the opinion that her being a woman plays a role. Just my opinion though.

Yes, the black community can't call everything a conspiracy by "The White Man" to take them down, which I've seen floated around a lot since the airing of the docuseries. If we're going to demand accountability from those outside the black community, we must also demand the same of our own.

I agree about Hillary, her gender has played a role in the intense extreme hatred for her. For once I would like somebody who dislikes her for valid reasons to come on a show and debate the facts and not propaganda  and lies that the right has pushed for decades.

The Black community has to stop protecting Black people who are awful, full stop.  It is sad that we make excuses for the likes of R. Kelly, Bill Cosby and OJ Simpson.  I understand the reasoning behind it due to the way that society has treated Black men and continues to treat them. Nevertheless, R. Kelly is not one of those men. He has used his privilege, money and celebrity to hurt women. I got rid of his CDS years ago. It is a shame that somebody so talented is so unbelievably evil.. It would not surprise me to learn that he targeted Black women on purpose, knowing that nobody would care.

I have loved Kamala Harris ever since she had Jeff Sessions  running scared and unable to speak at a hearing. The view showed a bit of the clip today.  Kamala does not play at all, she is intelligent, strategic and does not suffer fools gladly.

Jeez. I'm so sick of the likability factor. (I'm not screeding at you, Haleth. At all those who think that's what matters when they're voting.) So what? Who cares? That was George W. Bush's thing. People wanted to have a beer with him.  Look how that turned out. I want someone capable. Period.

Yeah, I just added "likable" as a wry snark since it came right after the Hillary = unlikable discussion.  No worries.

I wish Sunny had more time to dig in to the legal aspects of all this because reportedly R. Kelly plans on “suing everybody” in the docuseries. I’ve read many legal arguments as to why that’d actually be even more damaging to him and I wish Sunny would’ve had time to discuss the reasons why.

But yes, sadly I agree that he targeted black women and girls because he knew it wouldn’t garner as much national outrage.

Ok, now to remind Meghan of the letter from Obama that she framed!

Exactly, Sunny said that he would change his tactics to circumvent the law. That is what predators do to survive, they change their ways to adapt in becoming better at attacking their prey.  The sad thing is that he has been doing this for decades.  Predators are intelligent, charismatic and strategic. His sociopathy scares the hell out of me because there are many more like him in this world.

At the start of the new year, maybe now is a good time to re-aquaint ourselves with the forum's mod note about discussing politics, specifically:

Quote

Please remember that it violates both the “Be Civil” rule and the “Politics only as discussed on the show” rule to post generalizations about members of the political parties. If your point cannot be made without saying “all members of Party X are vile and evil” or “Y voters are all stupid,” this is not the appropriate forum for that point.

Posts have been removed. Moving forward, warnings will be issued for all future violations.

The segment was a mess, because Whoopi, for all her usually liberal blather, still has the reaction of some of her generation to the socialism word. AOC (and Bernie, for that matter) would better describe themselves (and would fare better doing so) if they called themselves/the movement "Social Democrats." They're not really any flavor of socialist. They're Dems who favor a strong social safety net.

So agree!  To many on the right AND the left, that "Socialist" word is like yelling,"Fire!" in...you know the rest.  They need a new/great PR campaign to eliminate that word if they want to make sufficient inroads.

I would love this as well. My only concern is if it Meghan starts using this as an excuse to hate on HRC, since we all know that the reason why Meghan doesn't like HRC is due to her being on a different team.

It would help the show though, because that voice isn't on the table and no one really discusses these things on TV.  You're either for her 100% (Whoopi, Joy, Sunny) and will defend her no matter what, or you're either against her 100% (Meghan) and will bash her whenever you can because of politics. I think Abby mentioned that she reluctantly voted for Hillary since she doesn't like Trump and mentioned that Meghan's husband was shocked that Abby and her husband did that. But Abby, as much as I think she's fine, doesn't really express her views all that much when it comes to politics and speaks on both sides while leaning on the right.

The show needs an Ana, but on the left. Someone who is critical of Obama and Hillary, but still has left leaning views. Maybe when Abby goes on mat leave we'll see someone like this.

So I think Whoopi was saying, learn from your elders in Congress. See what they have done and see how you can work from that point. Don't lose your ideas, don't lose your enthusiasm, but don't alienate your allies. Learn from them. They know how to get things done.

I think you're right, CC...but the look on Whoopi's face was NOT pleasant.  It was scary...almost mean.  If she were schooling me, I'd have a difficult time paying attention to her words.

Hopefully they will have someone who can fight back against Meghan. My fear is they will bring in someone to give Meghan cover.  Like her friend Sippy Cupp.

OSCARS HOSTS.   I thought it was interesting that Whoopi came up with the idea of having FOUR hosts for the next Academy Awards ceremony...and she listed only three.  She couldn't humble-brag that fourth who was on her mind?  Was Meghan supposed to come up with the name and she was distracted?

Also, she answered Abby that there have been 3, 4, 5...many more hosts.  I researched (not diligently) and didn't find more than two.  To give Whoopi her due, she did host the awards FOUR times.  For me, that's enough.  That's the limit.

I found it very naive when Sunny (or Whoopi) said that they couldn't imagine any parent not caring what was happening to their child while she was with R. Kelly. One thing I learned long ago (when I was LosAngelesCita) is that fame is as strong a drug as heroin. People will do anything to get close to fame and will make excuses and allowances for famous people that they would never make for JoeSchmo. Fame makes people act differently than they normally would, and look the other way at things they normally would not.

If it is true that R. Kelly was promising these girls and their parents that he would make the underage girls famous, that was genius. It gave him a golden ticket to abuse them with very little oversight. That's how it lasted for so long, in plain view.

It has been rumored for years that preteen and teenage stars like Shirley Temple, Elizabeth Taylor, and Judy Garland were all sexually used by Hollywood studio heads, with the knowledge and tacit approval of their parents, as a condition to them being made stars.

It's sickening, and I'm really happy at least some of the current predators are being exposed.

Billy Crystal hosted 8 times. And Bob Hope, 18.

People were more than happy to have their young sons share a bed with Michael Jackson, and the parents even stayed in an entirely different building.  Predators prey on the weak, and typically choose victims lacking in social support and finances.

ETA:  It's well known that young boys like the Coreys were passed around by the Hollywood pedophiles.  A lot of it came out after Corey Haim's death.

I disagree with this. First because neither Obama or Hillary are in office anymore, and second, because neither of them are running for office. And if they do get someone like that, it will just turn into a segment or three of "what aboutisms" and we get enough of that already with biggest snowflake that ever flaked. But that's just me.

Why does it bug the Hell out of me that when they came back from break MM said she and Harris had a nice conversation during the break.  Of the two who would be the possible unpleasant one? She has such high opinion of herself. I did tweet her yesterday and said for to be respectful.

The RKelly case someone was not doing their job. I had a aqaintence ( at a dog park) had a 40+ Year old son living in Texas whose house was busted down at 3 am in the morning and arrested for molestation of underage boy and having child porn on his computer. I believe a parent reported him. He was never aware he was being investigated and he got 134 year jail term. He was executive at a big well known  company where he worked for 20 years. Texas doesn’t play with child sexual abuse.

The multiple segment with Harris was great.

We'll have to agree to disagree. :)
I didn't mean that they'd just bring up Obama or Hillary whenever, like Meghan does. But someone who is critical of the left without being a Republican. So if a topic comes up about whether Hillary was shafted due to her gender, they can say something similar to what I did above. Her gender did play a role in why many people hated her, but for others they disliked her for these various reasons. Hopefully, they'd still bring up that the current administration is horrible as well.

I dunno. I think it would provide a more nuanced talk on issues as oppose to whataboutisms.

If I'm not mistaken Nicole Brown stayed with OJ for so long because she thought her parents wouldn't believe her about the abuse.  Also Simpson was responsible for Nicole's dad's job.

And do we know if R Kelly's victim's parents knew about what was going on?

It's never explicitly stated but some of the parents' actions are highly questionable.

For instance, the father of the young girl allegedly in the child sex tape continued to work as a guitarist* for R. Kelly and received credits on several songs.

His child was the subject of a child pornography case involving his employer, R. Kelly. Why in the hell would he continue to work for him, guilty or not?

Lisa Marie Presley married Michael Jackson after he was accused of child molestation. And she had two young children.  People choose to believe what they want.  Me personally if there is smoke there is fire and I'm not going to let anyone I love get burned.

I might be able to give people the benefit the doubt for initially believing R Kelly was not guilty but come on.  How many years and how many accusers has it been now?

Exactly.  The Brown family looked the other way in regards to OJ Simpson due to his fame and wealth.  Nicole's sister Denise, in particular, testified to some horrible things she witnessed at the murder trial.  The Brown family benefited financially, so they supported him almost until he was arrested.  They were hugging and kissing him at the funeral.

KH was very skilled and clever in having her little chat with NutMeg as she greeted her.  I am sure it was about her dad, and probably about her eulogy, so she disarmed her right off the bat.

When Abby tried to change the topic from whether a woman leader has to be more likable to could a woman beat Trump, Whoopi pounced on her to get her back on topic.  Abby seems to be the only one who isn't allowed to derail a convo.

NutMeg looks like she is having some serious skin problems since they returned.

Why is whoopie the one in charge of reading the TelePrompTer when she makes it very clear that she doesn’t read well because of her dyslexia? I know she’s the moderator but it’s awkward to watch her struggle to read introductions. There’s 4 other perfectly capable panelists I think they should have read the TelePrompTer.

I agree with Joy that there was no way for Hillary to win and gender was the main reason. It will probably be the same for every woman that runs for president. If she was aggressive, she would be called "hysterical." If she was calm, it would be "distant and arrogant." If she shouted, it would be "shrill / nagging." LOL Meghan had to repeat and repeat that she's called plenty of men unlikable. See, everybody, she isn't unnecessarily nasty to women at all! Right? Right? Please, Meghan, we already know you hate women and women's rights. You've made that very clear during your tenure on the show.

did Meghan give any specific examples of men she has called unlikable?   Because I don't believe that she has said that about men.   I think she has said SHE doesn't like certain people.   there's a huge difference between "I don't like that person,"  and "that person is unlikable."   the first is a personal preference.  the second is saying that NOBODY likes the person.

That's why she's always almost always reading the teleprompter--because she's the moderator. Except in cases when they have guests who are the Twat's "bastard uncles" or "a verrrrry good friend." Then the Twat gets to pretend she's a journalist and reads off the damn thing.
