The daughter (Amanda) had already moved out, she lived about a block away, and that's where her mother was when she disappeared.

I think Andy is the enabler, and Becky is the BSC hoarder.    I bet she's rehoarding right now.

I set the DVR to record this episode. I may delete it unwatched. Last night I flipped over to watch a bit of this, just as the son was entering the house and climbing through the collapsing hoard to talk to his father. I saw a bit of his father (Andy?) yakking about how the "communists" AND "Nazis" of the City were wanting to tell him how to live. Click. As far as I'm concerned, he's BSC himself.

I had to come here to see what happened because I just can't watch more of that nonsense. I'm glad they got all those tons out of garbage gone, and it's freaking scary to read that Becky is more BSC than Andy.

Yeah, sure, Andy and Becky, you have a constitutional right to abuse animals and infest your neighborhood with vermin. You just keep on being you.

Gack.

I can't imagine them in any kid of assisted living with their hostile insanity. I hope they just quietly die at home in the middle of what will inevitably be Hoard v2.0. Which would save the sanity of all the employees of assisted living or nursing homes who would have the nightmare hell of interacting with them as patients/residents.

But the rats were not from their house, ya know!!!   When the neighbors showed up to help, all I could think of is:  My hubby would have brought a gas soaked rag and dropped it while he had a smoke.  And he doesn't smoke.

I am was really hoping the city would have pushed forward with eviction - that living room, kitchen and whatever else got cleaned out is filling up filled up again.

I was stunned that the one neighbor who showed up first was helping Becky put her junk all over the neighborhood, on other people's yards.     If someone did that in my yard, they would be seriously sorry, and I would demand that charges for illegal dumping, trespassing and anything else be pursued.

I wonder how understanding the neighbors were after piles of junk were cleaned out, and the rats relocated to their houses?

She's going to keep doing it again and again and again.  She needs psychiatric help and supervised living.  There's no other way for her to be safe.

If I was a neighbor I absolutely would not have helped. It would have been better for everyone involved—especially the dogs!—if the city had razed the whole fucking thing and put those nasty old selfish assholes away somewhere.

The daughter never had a chance. I feel sorry for her. The dogs, though. Damn, that broke my heart that they got them back. Even if it was clean in that house (and it damn well wouldn’t be) there is NO way those two could or would keep those dogs walked, vetted and groomed. GRRRRRRRR.

At first I felt bad for the daughter, but I think she knew where her mother was hiding all along, at her apartment.  I hope they all get the help they need and I pray that someone from animal welfare does checks on those dogs.  I just get so frustrated on why they want to keep trash, but then I have to reel myself back and realize its an illness.  Andy wa blessed to have a son and daughter in law that gave up everything to help.  Now, I am off to drink my sentimental Tab soda

I don't believe hoarding is curable, at least not if the person lives on their own.    There have been people from one or the other older hoarder episodes who ended up in assisted living, and they tried to hoard there too.

Many of these people lie about when they started hoarding, and it was many years before their traumatic event that they claim triggered the hoarding.    A lot of times if there is a parent, or spouse that refused to allow them to hoard dies, or leaves, then the hoarding expands very quickly.

I think after suffering through the entire episode last night, Becky is the hoarder, and Andy enables her, and will never stop her. I don't think even assisted living wouldn't stop Becky.     Even being broke doesn't stop hoarders, judging from all of the thrift store shoppers they've shown on TV, or the ones who dumpster dive, or steal from neighbor's charity donation piles, or trash.

At least watching hoarder shows has taught me that ever being a landlord isn't in my future.

Just seeing the ads for this show last week inspired me to consolidate my bedroom stuff, and donate a book case, and some other things, so it does inspire me.     However, I have to laugh at the possibility that someone is buying my stuff and adding it to their hoard.

Mmmkay.

Besides the fact that she lies, Amanda is right, she IS annoying. Bring back Matt and Cory.

Someone said (maybe Becky?) they took their dogs and sold them. So how exactly did they get them back if they were ‘sold’? Either way, those poor dogs. They’ll be back in cages 24/7.

I think she said she's "Push her in to the street", and she may have inferred the rest.

As for the dogs, I think Becky said that someone "Stoled"  them (as in Stole/Stolen).  That's a term a lot of older people use.

It's especially not if the person doesn't receive professional help.  If they can get to the root of what their compulsion is that causes them to hoard, the chances are better.  They're also better if there is someone there to keep them in check, and keep them working on the right path.

I don't know enough about behaviour changing drugs, but I wonder if sometimes we see a 180 change in a person because someone has chemically calmed them down.

I did know someone who had had a behaviour altering lobotomy (this was in the early 70s) and I wonder if that could change these terminally filthy people who are damaging their families.  Not that it would be legal or moral or ethical unless we get into shades of gray.  Is it more moral to destroy a child's childhood by not doing anything to protect the rights of BSC parents?

I know there are no easy answers and probably no answers at all.

Yipes......I had to fast forward through a hell of a lot of that HOT MESS as well.  It was painful. It was just too too much, and I am a huge fan of this show....I agree with some of you guys, it didn't make me want to clean my joint, it made me want to puke. Those people were truly vile. Who in the hell would give those precious dogs back to those wackos....they will die in crates. And yes yes yes, that organizer has to go....you can't let the hoarders make you cry honey, grow a pair. This episode was nasty in every sense of the word.

The house is listed for sale as an auction. No pics of the inside. I'm grateful. What a horrible mess of a family. Vile. The organizer was so out of her depth. There's no crying in extreme hoarding cleanout, lady! I almost lost my cookies when they showed Andy cooking in the bathroom next to that horrible shit filled toilet.  And that poor girl was born there. Smh.  Becky tossing stuff into other yards. She tried that with me, and it would come flying back, on fire.  Both of them need to be in a controlled situation. Seriously controlled. They're both BSC. I'm so OCD neat clean freak it makes me twitchy. I watch with my fist in my mouth. Being a military family, I've learned to keep my stuff down to a manageable level.

So glad this show is back!

We had a hoarder home, with five vermin-infested vehicles, across the alley from us. When they finally emptied it and towed away the vehicles (after banging them repeatedly with baseball bats to get the vermin out), we got the mice in my townhome building. I have cats - it was awful - but we all got very good at figuring out the ways they got in. Haven't had a problem since.

I liked this one. The people were awful, but I saw change in the son, and I really hope that the daughter is getting help. She is literally crying out for it. It was weird to see her switch between wanting the situation to change, and enabling her parents. She and the dogs were the ones who I had the most empathy for, followed by the poor city officials who had to deal with the hoarders and their craziness.

I'm still laughing at the tagline that says they're patiently waiting for a response from Trump.

I don't think that's the same house.   It was definitely in Marysville, WA.   However, I did search "hoarders Marysville, WA", and either this house or a similar one caused the city to change their statutes to make clean up easier to enforce.

Another article has a man who's lived in Marysville for 25 years saying since the county annexed Marysville, that the neighborhood went downhill, and there are hoarders, drug houses, abandoned houses, and all kinds of problems getting much worse.

So, I went on Google earth and that house is at most three miles from Marysville, WA.  And the 'where' line at the top of that link says Marysville.

Tua----doesn't seem to be a town per se, but it is a casino.

The lawyer they hired is from Everett, just down the road.  Where the auction will happen.

If it's that house, poor, poor house.  Twenty years old and nobody has ever cleaned the moss off the roof (both houses), and the first photo on the page shows a back yard that I don't know what to make of it.

Foreclosure auction.  We all just assumed that they owned the house.  If they had a mortgage and thirty year mortgages were pretty standard twenty years ago...or if they refinanced.......

I think there are a lot of similar houses there.    A bunch of ranch style houses, that all were built in the 60's or 70's and look exactly alike.   I imagine the auction house is a similar floor plan, and looks very much like the hoarder house.    From the article I saw, there are a lot of hoarders, abandoned houses, foreclosures, and other ugly properties  in town.    The town apparently only has one code enforcement officer too.     If it's the same house, the yard grew up very quickly, though who knows when the show was filmed.

That's the wrong house, they actually did live in Marysville, from the drone pictures at the beginning.       I really hope the cleanup stays clean, and the house can be repaired, but I doubt it.      I just hope Amanda stays on her own, and the puppies are OK.

The therapist wasn't awful, but the organizer certain had an inauspicious debut, and was much too nice.

I've never understood the need to considered the feelings of someone who's endangering the neighborhood with vermin.
I've never understood why we're supposed to "respect her stuff."
I really want to see a show where they fail, and the city comes in, and in front of the hoarder, drives a backhoe through the house, and carts away everything.

I thought Erica was immature to engage with the family, and let her emotions & ego get involved. I feel like the OG organizers (Matt, Dorothy, Standolyn, Geralin, or Corey) wouldn't have let that happen. They were experienced enough to realize that the hoarders, and their dysfunctional families, were going to lash out at some point, but not to take it personally. It seems odd that they didn't start the new season with one of the organizers that the audience already knows.

Yelling at the severely mentally ill woman, "I NEED YOUR TRUST!!!" , as you are throwing out possessions, was extremely unprofessional. The daughter-in-law was correct in telling her she was never going to have Becky's trust, so shut up and clean up.  And then she starts crying on the job.  Honey, go home, you are not cut out for this.

But then I read the comments here and thought maybe I liked it only because I hadn't seen the first half, but you did and appreciated the same things I did--the additional 60 tons they let go, the willingness to get therapy, and poor Amanda begging, as you said, to be included.  Hell, I'm getting touched just thinking about it.

I know they made a big deal at the end about how heartwarming it was that all the neighbors chipped in to help. I know if I were in their shoes, I would have been in biohazard garb working my butt off!

Yeah, when the psychologist was talking about how wonderfully caring it was for the neighbors to pitch in, and how it's hope for the future that we can indeed all get along, I thought, "They're doing it for themselves, dum dum!"

I would have been right there with you, shoveling like a madman.

The show part of the cleanup was 160 tons, and later the son and his wife removed the last 60 tons.    I can't imagine having 220 tons of anything in and around a house.

Since the other future episodes I could find all seem to be one hoard each for two hours, and I'm not sure I can keep watching this level of mental disorder.

I don't think the house in the photos is the same one either.  The street looks different, I think the house was a darker color, and I think the shape is different - I don't recall the aerial shots showing a house with a garage that stuck out that far.

Me too. I just couldn't watch more than a bit of this episode. Because, level of mental illness on display, and too long.

I prefer the hoarder shows to feature people who aren't so deeply disturbed. I understand - but don't share - the absolutist position that all of the hoarder shows amount to exploiting mental illness for entertainment. At the end of the day, the subjects of those shows have been offered an extraordinary level of assistance to save their homes and independence and even family relationships. Including after-care therapy. It's not like the TV crews just swooped in, filmed the mess, and swooped out.

I do balk at the extreme cases that this series has presented. I think there's a lot to be learned from episodes featuring the less extreme, more reachable, hoarders. But yeah, the extreme cases bring the shock value and potential ratings. Sigh.

But even those this batch was extreme, they did "reach" them.  Andy and Becky allowed an additional 60 tons of crap to be removed from the premises after the cameras left, Andy saw the code enforcement officer in a new light, Andy and Russ appeared to have done some repair to their relationship, and everybody agreed to go to therapy (can't remember if the BSOJ said they actually went).  I think that's pretty good.

I think this week's My 600 Lb Life person is in a hoarding household, at least that's what the teasers and blurbs on the TV schedule are hinting.

"Jeanne's Story

Jeanne lives in an unhygienic household with her mother and schizophrenic father. At well-over 600 lbs., Jeanne might never get weight-loss surgery as she runs into several obstacles, especially after an unexpected death in her family." (from TV Guide)

I know that Dorothy the Organizer has mentioned that her show airs around the 20th (too lazy and tired to look up the exact date). I hope David Tolin is involved in this season. He's absolutely my favorite in being direct with the hoarders.

As long as they don't show dead animals or piled high toilets, I'm fine with whatever format they show. I kind of like the two-hour version, as it seems like there were always huge questions marks left in the hour-long shows.

In an episode of the British show How Clean Is Your House, they worked with a retired man who clearly was all there mentally and just a slob.  At the end of the episode standing in his now lovely home, they asked the usual question "...and now you're going to keep the place looking nice?".  He said no.  He was happy that they cleaned it and if it gets filthy again maybe he'll call them again.  It was both horrifying and awesome at the same time.   Totally unrepentant.

And the son, Russ (who looks almost as old as the father), a grown man who refuses to confront or even disagree with anything his father says? Me suspects that Andy was a controlling, vicious, abusive asshole.

I didn't understand what they were saying about a speech impediment. I understood her just fine. I guess maybe her speech was slightly affected by her overbite? But barely!

I was impressed with Russ's ability to get through to his dad, and to speak knowledgeably about codependence. (Not surprised he was a recovering addict.) Of course, I suspect that Andy had his reasons for cooperating with Russ and the clean-up. Truly not convinced he actually changed his thinking or behavior.

Tonight's episode is set in Alaska and is a car hoarder and winter is coming.

I learned that from my digital newspaper.  That part is good.  But I looked at the schedule and saw that the toe doctor follows Hoarders.  I remember the ads for Toe Dr from last week.  IMO they were turn away from the screen gross.  I have no reason to want to subject myself to similar gag-worthy images tonight,  I'll 'tape' tonight and fast forward through the ads.

To me, some of the hoarders' stuff is turn away, BUT all of the toe stuff is.  Isn't it odd that one bothers me a lot more than the other?  I hate hurt animals, abused children and cut up bodies.

First bolded part: *****THIS***** times a thousand. Why the Hell haven't their neighbors sued the shit out of the city!? Can they? These idiots have created all kinds of hazards -- cockroaches, rats, a massive fire, etc. -- not only for their neighbors but for the first responders who would literally have to risk their lives in case of a medical situation or a fire. Exactly how long has the city been pussy-footing around with these two? If I lived near them and paid taxes, I would be livid! At least after reading your post I know that I am not the only one who has no sympathy for this creepy couple.

As for the second bolded part, heh heh, sorry to say that I recall seeing more than one of these hoarders find filthy dentures in a pile of trash and promptly pop them in their mouths completely unwashed!😱,

BTW, that soft-spoken therapist is making me crazy which I guess means he's not doing a great job when it comes to MY mental health!
