The series follows the story of a woman named Nicole Reese, who raises her son Dion after the death of her husband Mark (Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several magical, superhero-like abilities. This series is currently slated to premiere in 2019 on Netflix.

I expected/wanted dark/Brown skin actors to play the Mom and son, that's not the case. That was one of the aspect that made me excited to see the show because representation like this is not seen much, especially in this genre.

It's worse when you compare it to the original comic trailer:

True, I was disappointed in the recast too. And I couldn't find any info as to why they did it. I've asked Netflix point blank (even included the original trailer) and they never answered.

Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder), Aubriana Davis (Genius: Aretha), Tracey Bonner (Sweet Magnolias) and Josh Ventura (P-Valley) have joined the Season 2 cast of Netflix’s superhero drama series Raising Dion. Production on the eight-episode second run is underway in Atlanta. Producing director Darren Grant will direct the first block of the season.

Returning as series regulars are Alisha Wainwright, Ja’Siah Young, Sammi Haney, and Jazmyn Simon. Ali Ahn and Griffin Robert Faulkner have been upped to regulars for Season 2.

I saw this and it made me soooooo sad. And mad! This is another popular show led by a predominantly black/brown cast that Netflix has cancelled in the past 2-3 years.

I think it had more to do with all the money and subscribers that Netflix recently loss and all the subscribers it thinks it is going to lose next year. Netflix canceled a ton of shows that hadn't started production yet that they originally were going to fund, including tons of animated shows.
