How prom dress-oily hair-boring make-up-white flower guy did not go home is a mystery to me. No matter what color the jewel glue dried to, lol.

Agree with this. The only thing I can imagine is that it was because he came up with the story & kind of conceptualized both looks. Cause it was bad.

I agree too. His look was unfortunate, which seems odd, because he was soooooo excited about the concept. So, I’m kind of glad he wasn’t sent home.

I think so too, Samson's prom look was terrible. Jayson's look was bad (and I'm not sorry to see him go), but I thought Samson's was a lot worse.

This challenge had possibilities, but I was expecting a lot more. I guess they don't really have a ton of time to come up with unique and original concepts.

I am enjoying the show, is the first season worth watching? I remember trying to watch it before and bailing out in the first episode.

Christie Brinkley kind of freaks me out. I don't want a 65 year old woman to look THAT young. Where does it end? I was recently introduced to an older lady who also must have done that level of cosmetic work done cuz she is in her 70's, but looks 40. When I shook her hand, the hand was 70! It scared me, y'all! I know you can also do the hands now, but again, where does it end.

IMHO, you made the right choice before & I would not go back. This season isn’t the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV, but it deserved a G-D Emmy relative to the last season.  The host was Adriana Lima who seemed to be using the gig as her own personal ESL class, which was sorely needed. & the premise was utterly bizarre. They were hairdressers or makeup artists, but not both, so they each had an assistant, who seemed to be drawn from the ranks of people who tried out & didn’t make it, & who were sometimes even more annoying famewhores than the regular contestants, which is saying a LOT, because take the most annoying person this season & maybe they’d be average in annoyingness last season. Sometimes the assisitant’s skill set would complement the regular candidate (makeup with hair or visa versa) but sometimes it didn’t & the final product would be total ass. People were constantly be seriously criticized & winning, or being praised & eliminated. The entire thing made no damn sense.  I only decided to watch this when I saw that they replaced Adriana with Ashley, & I’m thrilled they got rid of the stupid assistant shtick & replaced the judging panel. I can tolerate uncanny valley Christie Brinkley for that trade.

I had time to kill so I binge watched and caught up. I'm sorry to see my 2 favorites gone (Jayson and Ricardo). Samson should definitely have gone home for his "hero" non-look. Christie Brinkley looks like the "cat woman" Jocelyn Wildstein with those eyes. Some plastic surgeon's wallet is fat and happy thanks to CB.

I didn't see the first few episodes of this season, but it's worlds better than the first season! Still has a way to go though....too much multitasking for the contestants to be good at everything.

I did notice that Ashley didn't give Jayson a hug before he left....didn't she hug everyone else or am I flashing back to Alyssa on PRAS?

I seriously don't think it's fair to not eliminate anyone on a challenge.  To me it's just not fair to the ones who were let go.  Especially since some of the eliminated contestants actually won a challenge the episode before they were booted off.  The guy that won tonight has been in the bottom so many times, I wonder why they kept giving him a pass.  I'm beginning to lose interest in the show because the judging is too sometimey.

Idk, I kinda liked that no one left. It would suck to have to leave with your Mom....spirit or not.

I think that they planned on not eliminating anyone just because it was their moms. They would probably end up with angry mom coming at the judges.

I think they were less afraid of angry moms and more worried that they would feel guilty about getting their kids eliminated (even though logically we all know it's the artist's fault if they get eliminated). They were definitely kinder in the judging this week too.

Even though I'm usually not a fan of non-eliminations, I get that this was probably more about giving the contestants a chance to see their loved ones and recharge their batteries a little with some love and emotional support.

I thought everyone did a decent job (although some clearly did better than others). What I liked about the challenge was showing how you can transform normal everyday people aka non-models. As much as I love crazy over the top makeup, it's still true that regular beauty makeup can make a big difference and that in turn can help people feel better about themselves. When you look good, you feel good.

One of the basic tenets of regular makeup is that if you just even out the skin tone and add a little lip color, you can go from looking tired and blah to polished. I think that was clearly demonstrated this week. None of the moms looked bad in their before shots, but you can see how afterward they looked like brighter and more finished versions of themselves. I liked that the contestants didn't try to do dramatic makeovers. They just wanted to make everyone look like better versions of themselves.

I thought not lettig anyone go was a cop out. Samson's "spirit mom's" (they really had to reach for that one) look didn't really look much difrerent than her normal look. That's not saying he isn't talented, but on this challenge his talent didn't show.

I agree!!!  Spirit mom didn't look all that different to me either.

If anyone deserved to win for a complete transformation it was Brittany.  She really made her mom shine!  She looked so gorgeous.  She glowed!  Brittany was robbed.  I still don't understand why they're keeping Axel as much as he's been in the bottom.

So once again Axel is safe.  I don't understand it!  His looks are so boring but he gets pass after pass.  Oh well.  I never agree with the judges on these shows anyway.

In theory, I'm with Oz - creating a website is something you hire someone to do for you. I remember when a small business owner told me that one of the most important things to do is to know what your strengths and weaknesses are and the hire people to do things that aren't what you're great at.

On the other hand, it's not 2003 where you have to know HTML in order to code your own website. Sites like Wix were created for people who don't know shit about web design. You just pick a template and then drag and drop your stuff. It's not rocket science. A child could do it.

Why was Oz wearing a great-aunt's floral robe? I laughed when she was going on and on about how unique and different she is and then she chose monarch butterflies as her thing. For reals? That is totally cliche and overused that it has to be really perfect and even then it's usually ho hum, more butterflies. Her look was just regular beauty makeup with two butterflies on her model. On a nitpicky note, I hated her motto ("be free to be you"). The grammar nerd in me was cringing.

I totally get making a change (see also: girls who get extreme haircuts after a breakup), but why did Samson leave that porn stache? Ugh. When he initially said he wanted to use lace, I thought he was going to do the typical piece of lace all the way across her face, so I liked that he cut the lace to fit her eyelid which created the illusion of a dramatic smoky eye. Unfortunately, it didn't have the same impact on the runway. From a distance, it just looked messy and confusing.

I didn't have the volume up very high at the beginning of the episode so I initially thought that Axel said his motto was "believe drink create." I loved the gold lips he created. I wasn't sure how the judges would react to the gold stars because I thought they might say it was too juvenile. I agreed with the judges that writing his motto on his model's back didn't work. If you're going to do that, you can't just write it like that. You need to give that as much thought, care, and attention as the rest of her hair and makeup. Don't just print it with eyeliner. You need to use a pretty font and sparkle it up to match the rest of the look.

Lucy definitely achieved her goal of creating an odd look. It was so weird but I could see it being editorial. I'm glad we finally got to see her do something avant garde. I've been waiting for this since the first episode when she said she does drag makeup and really dramatic stuff.

I hated the white feathers that Brittany put on her model's eyebrows. WTF? But even worse were the feathers on her lips. It made her look like she had an old man's mustache. I can't imagine how annoying it must have felt for the model.

Kendra's braids with the white thread pattern was an interesting idea. I appreciate that she doesn't think she needs to be overly dramatic because I don't need everyone to go with the typical "I'm so different and unique" thing. I didn't like the outfit she chose for her model which made her look like she was wearing a rumpled bedsheet. The subtle white speckles she created on her model's face seemed like something editorial, but I don't know jack about that.

Diana doesn't seem to know what her brand is, so I don't know how she thinks she's going to sell herself as an artist to anyone. Even if you aren't an expert at something weird and memorable, you still need to know how to present yourself as an artist. Like would the first picture on your website be beauty makeup or something crazy dramatic? The super long bangs made it seem like she was too lazy to do full eye makeup. The hair and outfit had a lot of impact on the runway, but I hated that she only left the white outline on the top right upper lip because it made her model look like she went for a lip wax and they forgot to do one side, or maybe that she had half a milk mustache.

This is the week on every competitive show where I feel bad for the ONE person who is safe and doesn't get to hear anything that the judges say. Imagine sitting in the lounge by yourself for over an hour wondering what's going on.

I loved how excited and happy Samson was for Lucy to win.

Brittany definitely deserved to go home for that ridiculous feather look. I was okay with Kendra being sent home too. This challenge game them the opportunity to create any look that they felt represented them as artists and that was it? Axel is lucky that they judges clearly disliked Kendra's look so much or he would have gone home.

The feathers on the lips reminded me of some movie poster where a woman had a butterfly covering her lips-some thriller maybe. There's been a lot of makeup using that kind of artistry, but she did it all wrong. And Kendra's looked like something my niece used to do in her hair-threading colored ribbon in her braids.

When Ashley announced that ONE person would be leaving, I thought, crap, this challenge is calling out for a double elimination. I'm glad the judges decided the same. Damn those bottom two were hideous.

So, after almost getting eliminated again, Samson turns into Freddy Mercury overnight. I wonder what he does after a bad break up.

The best part about this episode was finally getting real clothes for the models to wear. Most of the time this season they were wearing cheap mall crap.

I don't know why Axel was so obsessed with giving his models foil winged eyeliner. It looked fine but it wasn't something amazingly innovative or new. I did feel bad for him because he specifically said he wanted only one glitter lip and then Rinaldo put it on all three models. At that point, it was too late to take it off and redo their makeup so he was stuck with it. My main problem is that his designer (Michael Costello from Project Runway!) specifically requested a modern twist on old Hollywood glam which I did not see at all. I'd be willing to say that red lips are Hollywood glam, but that's it. Rinaldo really screwed him. The only thing that the judges loved (the foil eye) was Axel. All the things they disliked (the hair, the glitter lips) were Rinaldo.

I hated the hair on Diana's models. I don't know why she thought it looked 20s at all. To me it looked like teased to the point of looking like dry frizzy tangled rat tails with major heat damage. I wasn't a fan of the heart shape lip either.

Lucy took a huge risk with those pop art colored faces. I lived through the 90s and nothing about a blue face says grunge to me, but okay. Her models looked like Star Trek aliens because of the different colored faces.

Oz was right when she said that no one has done a proper wet hair look this season (she specifically mentioned the previous attempts having dry hair at the end). I didn't think her models looked like they had wet looks either because the ends of their ponytails were dry too. Her first two models on the runway looked like they had greasy oily faces. I appreciated that she wanted the hair pulled back so that the focus was on the clothes.

Samson needs to learn when to stop working. If you're done early, you're done early. That doesn't mean keep piling on more makeup. He should have listened when his assistant tried to remind him that the designer requested sun-kissed and summery.

I felt like Oz won by default because there were major issues with everyone else's looks.

I'm glad that Samson took his elimination well but I don't think his "I've never been to Paris" defense really works. He clearly has a lot of makeup references as he was discussing with Sir John, so there was no excuse for thinking all that heavy makeup looked French.

Lucy is lucky that they gave her a pass. I was expecting her to get the chop after her critique.

So glad Samson is finally gone, he should have been gone long ago.

Does Oz's hair drive anyone else crazy? Why does she wear the worst wigs? She always looks bad.

S2.E12: Out of Their Element

Quote

The final four artists must create jaw-dropping looks inspired by one of the four elements: water, earth, wind and fire; an emotional elimination reveals which three artists will go on to compete in the live finale where America votes for the winner.

Christie's description of Diana's huge pile of hair as a hat was spot on. I couldn't believe that she didn't use the extensions to cover the model's hairline above her forehead. Why on earth would you make such a terrible (and ugly) decision?

I agreed that the red on Axel's model's forehead was very flat and needed a little something, whether it was glitter, shimmer, more intense color, just something.

I also agreed that although it was obvious that Oz had the water look, it did veer off into costume rather than avant garde. At least Sir John managed to steer her into a different shade of blue so her poor model didn't look like she had a bruised face.

Lucy took a risk giving her model white makeup after she completely colored her three models' faces with color last week, but she did end up achieving an airy look. I wanted to wipe my hand over the model's face to get those wispy pieces off her face, but I get that it created the illusion of light airy breezes.

I would have been fine with Oz or Diana going home. Diana managed to save herself from elimination with her speech to the judges.

Time to vote!

I liked Oz's personality but her look was not good. I thought the others were definitely better and had been done with more intention. I also ended up liking Lucy's much more than I originally did with the Geisha-like face. It ended up looking very ethereal. Her make up, to me, looked more involved than the winner.

Yikes. The live format was awful. Ashley came off more obnoxious. Diana’s look was awful. I don’t know if I can handle another season.

It was staggeringly awful. I agree that Ashley didn't come off well. It felt like she had to fill about 50 minutes of time and she really didn't have much to say. It was also weird that she announced Lucy as the winner before she opened the envelope. The studio and camera work were craptastic, too.

Why did they even bother with final looks?  How many votes could they have gotten in the last 30 minutes to change anything.  And that ridiculous - here's 30 last seconds to sell your brand.  It was a strange and bad episode.

Also, Yay Lucy.

If she didn’t have 500 magazine covers, I would think she suffers from low self esteem (and hey, maybe she does in spite of it all, who knows?). I just keep thinking how much more attractive she would look with darker, shoulder length hair & soft, natural makeup.  And a relaxed face that doesn’t have all her teeth showing all the time. ... I came into the forum wondering if she bothered anyone as much as she bothers me, and I am so happy to see your comment! Thanks!

Good lord, that finale was terrible. I felt bad that the three finalists had to come up with one last look and in the end, that look made no difference at all because it was all about people texting or tweeting votes the week between the penultimate episode and the finale. And since I'm in California, I wouldn't have been able to vote once they narrowed it down to two people during the "live" finale.

I finally figured out what bothers me about Ashley. I definitely think she's an improvement over Adriana Lima who was so monotonous and dead-eyed, but Ashley comes off as overly familiar, like the kind of person who says, "Girlfriend, let me give you some advice," about two minutes after you've met her. But she really blew right past that during the finale with the WOOing and the dancing and everything else. I mean, part of me feels bad because she clearly had to fill an hour and she knew she only had about five minutes of actual content (which was the three finalists presenting their last assignments), but man, that was awful.
