FormerMod-a1 December 28, 2018 Share December 28, 2018 2006-2010 Quote "Old Christine" (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is a divorced mom who has a handle on her career and motherhood -- and a pretty good relationship with her ex-husband -- until he introduces his new girlfriend, a younger woman, also named Christine. Old Christine lives with her son and her brother, and runs a gym, and her life is a constant struggle to keep up with everyone else. Link to comment
7isBlue January 15, 2019 Share January 15, 2019 Thank you for starting this thread! This my favorite comedy. It makes me laugh out loud! Maybe it’s because the references and slang she uses (“Face!”) are of my era. JLD is perfection, but so is the rest of the cast, especially Hamish Linklatter and Clark Gregg. I missed it the first time around, but now watch it regularly in reruns. I hope this forum gets more comments :-) 5 Link to comment
cleo January 15, 2019 Share January 15, 2019 I've been doing a slow rewatch, I just finished season 3. I love Wanda Sykes on this show. But everyone is very good. 4 Link to comment
7isBlue January 16, 2019 Share January 16, 2019 (edited) Wanda Sykes is great! Honestly, even the “minor” characters are so well written and cast. The “meanie moms” make me LOL. I also am continually impressed by the guest stars: Blair Underwood, Eric McCormack, Scott Bakula, Dave Foley, Amy Sedaris, Megan Mulalley, Jeffrey Tambor, Sandra Bernhard... I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Edited January 16, 2019 by 7isBlue 4 Link to comment
Miranda January 27, 2019 Share January 27, 2019 (edited) I love this show!!! Only watched it in reruns and find it so funny!! Weird how I didn't like Julia in Seinfield but absolutely love her as Christine!!! Wish more would comment on this thread!! Edited January 27, 2019 by Miranda 5 Link to comment
cleo January 28, 2019 Share January 28, 2019 (edited) I don't think it's on syndication anywhere, so it tends to disappear. It is in my rewatch library though! I like all of the main characters, the meanie moms, everything just clicks. I like JLD in everything she does, but Veep I bailed somewhere in s. 4 or 5 bc I didn't like the story overall. ETA I wil probably be doing a rewatch of S.4 of Christine in a month or so, I can post if anyone is interested in watching or commenting along. Edited January 28, 2019 by cleo 3 Link to comment
possibilities January 28, 2019 Share January 28, 2019 The first time I watched was in syndication, but I can't remember what channel. It seems to be available quite often, though in the wee hours of night. For a while I was a raving insomniac and would catch it at 3 am or whatever. Link to comment
FormerMod-a1 January 28, 2019 Author Share January 28, 2019 Yes, it's on TVLand at some crazy hour, but not every day. Looks like 2:16am CST on TVLand tomorrow/tonight. Link to comment
Miranda January 29, 2019 Share January 29, 2019 I watch it on TVLND. It is on middle of the nite but I keep weird hours..lol Also there is a mini marathon of them on Sunday mornings. The one episode I found weird was qhen Christine had to break up with yummy Mr.Harris because she was too busy to have time for him. Like seriously...she has three other people helping take care of Richie and barely works!!! She never was too busy for her other boyfriends! 3 Link to comment
cleo January 29, 2019 Share January 29, 2019 I see...I don't think we get TV land in Canada, at least I'm not aware if we do. 1 Link to comment
LucyEth March 13, 2019 Share March 13, 2019 Weird show, the brother/sister relationship is creepy. Also, she is stupid beyond words. I don't think she started out that way since the earlier shows she seems different. Poor Richie, half the time no one knew where he was or what he was doing. New Christine was an oddball too! cleo April 3, 2019 Share April 3, 2019 So I just rewatched 4.1. This is the ep where Christine and Barb get married. The good- pretty much every scene with Barb. But the whole ep is good. Only joke I didn't like- Christine is standing in her lkitchen and somehow her underwear falls around her ankles? That just seems stupid. I was surprised they told Ritchie the real reason for the marriage, bc what if he tells someone? Lots of good lines, but one in particular- I never do what I dont want to do unless its a second date, and that's just good manners. Lol. 1 2 Link to comment
cleo May 11, 2019 Share May 11, 2019 Just watched the ep where the franchise owner threatens to take away the gym bc Barb and Christine are married. This is season 4 ep 12 or something like that. For most of the episode, Christine acts like she is cool with it. This is a mischaracterization imo, the politically correct Christine of season 1 with her Prius etc. would not be clueless about why this is an issue and/or not care. Even if she really didn't care, Christine would want to act as if she did. I remember in the later seasons they start to play her dumber etc, and the show isn't as good. I also don't think it was necessary for the plot, there was lots that could be mined there for laughs without having Christine act like an idiot. Also it is always nice to see Megan Mulally, but her come ons to Christine were the opposite of sexy or funny, at least to me anyway but I suppose mileage will vary on that one. Other changes in season 4 I don't like. Matthew's girlfriend is irritating, although I love all the jokes about Matthew finding someone who looks like Christine. 3 Link to comment
Kiddvideo January 31, 2021 Share January 31, 2021 For some reason, after all these years, I can’t stand Christine sometimes because she’s so screechy and whiny. The episode where she thought she was peri menopausal was on, and I had to turn the channel during the scene where she was vacuuming in her bra and everyone came over. And I like used to like that episode because she stands-up to the Meanie Moms. 😡 1 2 Link to comment
ljenkins782 February 6, 2021 Share February 6, 2021 HBO Max is now carrying this show so I've been watching it again. For some reason, TV Land had this weird schedule where it aired the same collection of episodes over and over, so I've caught some that I never saw before. It's a medium-like show for me, there are definitely funny moments, but a lot of the overarching themes can be kinda tired. Wanda Sykes has some fantastic facial expressions, those can always make me laugh out loud. JLD is also always good, even when the writing is a bit beneath the caliber of her acting. Ritchie is my least favorite of the cast, the kid can't act and he's not cute, IMO. 1 2 Link to comment
