It didn't seem that way. Thought it was ok.

Thank goodness Avery is safe. I know this is a sitcom but I was on edge the entire time. Won't be the first time a sitcom went there, especially if there's a chance the show won't come back. Go big or go home.

I adore Bennie. Murphy's buying him sweaters. LOL. And awwwwww.

Agreed :D. I also liked Pat talking about meeting "a dancer, a prancer, and a delicious vixen named Rudolph".

Seconded!

That ending with Murphy and Avery settling in to watch Toy Story together was so sweet. Awwwww. I also liked the cameraman Avery was working with-it'd be neat if he popped up again. And I'm glad Miguel got a bit of good news as well :).

It's been fun, this revival. Here's hoping we'll get more of this!

For a season finale it was pretty good! Just hate the fact that it’s over.

Please if it gets renewed for season 2, get rid of Diana.

 Nice to see Jim.

God Benny the dog is so cute!

The Pence joke fell flat. No way would anyone from that administration show up at a place like Phil’s filled up with reporters.

I didn't mind Diana at the end of it, maybe just have less of her next season.

Nah, it didn't fall flat for me. But that said, I do agree with you about the administration never showing up there. Still liked the joke for what it was though.

I think I'm in love with Julius, "hey there!" He's been getting more and more lines through the season and he always delivers.

And Tyne Daly is a treasure. I love her in anything.

Benny continues to be adorable, I love little dogs, but have 2 big ones. I'm a Cocker Spaniel person living in a Pit Bull World. And I love that Murphy is bonding with him and buying him sweaters. I have a friend that is so adamantly in the "don't put clothing on animals" camp, but sometimes in really cold climates, short haired dogs like Benny can use a sweater. My Pit could probably use one on some days, but he'd never tolerate it, so he doesn't get to stay outside long on the very cold days.

I also was on edge waiting for Avery to be safe, and so glad to see him home.

I loved Corky's suit! And I loved Diana and Miles bonding and Pat recording it and Julius having it in slo-mo!

That's been the whole problem with this show, this episode was no exception.  Just seems very amateurish.  Longest half season ever!!!!

The Afganistan bit looked so phoney.  I thought he was in Fresno.  Somebody will have to explain the humor in this show, because I see none.  The Ted Cruz "joke" sounded like a joke from The Wolf Network.  The secondary characters have been plucked directly from a high school play.

Whose Benny?  Did I miss something?

I think my favorite story was Phylis not wanting to throw a party but by the end finally realizing what the bat means to people.

Corky getting thrown out by Pences SS was hilarious as well.

Benny is Murphy & Avery’s disabled dog Murphy adopted & saved from euthanasia at an animal shelter about 3 episodes ago (I think), once she saw him as an example of the available dogs. After Murphy met him, after she was dragged along on Corky’s live shot marking National Dog Adoption Day, she realized that the “E” beside his shelter name (which was a number I forget now) on a list of available dogs meant he was scheduled to be put down very soon because he hadn’t been adopted by whatever the timeframe is in an animal shelter between arrival & euthanasia due to overcrowding or whatever. That got to her & she took the dog home. She mentioned Avery had been wanting a dog since he was a kid (but, she may have added, Murphy wasn’t sure if he’d be responsible for it or she’d end up taking care of it, so she never got him 1).

Benny (Bennie?) is paralyzed (in real life too) & wears a “doggie wheelchair” on his lower half, which apparently reminded Avery of Ben-Hur sitting in his chariot & was the genesis of his current name.

The scenes with Avery in Kabul were well done. The scene I liked the best was when Miles stopped Murphy from going after Diana. The ones with Bennie were fun. He has been a perfect addition to the show.

Overall, the episode fell flat for me.  I didn't care much for the New Year's and party part of the story line.

That was good. I also liked the following:

Corky: You know, I have an advantage you don't, Murphy. He can relate to me. I'm a God-fearing, good Christian woman. And when was the last time you were in church?

Murphy: Two months ago. It's my polling place.

Murphy: Why are you yelling, Miles?

Miles: You were asleep. And not in a "cute little baby" way. More in a "5:00 am Vegas bus station" way.

I was worried too that something might happen to Avery.

I'm more of a cat person, but my God, Benny is so cute especially in that sweater.

The old Corky would have never hidden in a men's bathroom to try and get an interview.  She's come a long way. Good for her! And being so proud carried out of Phil's by the secret service, lol.

I, too, could live without Diana.  Bring back Gene Kinsella.  Or if the actor is unavailable, a reasonable facsimile.  He liked Murphy, considered himself an ally to the anchors, reporters and producers.

LOVED IT! Those episodes just flew by and I'm not ready to say goodbye yet!

The interaction between Diana and Miles was great. I hope it's a 'reboot' on her character for season two - firm and strong with less intimidation and bark (unless the bark is needed).

I loved all of it! MORE PLEASE!!!!!!

I rewound his dancing a bunch of times. I love him!

I also liked when Frank and Murphy were like "Besties? Word. Happy new year." I don't know if the actors are friends, but their friend chemistry is off the charts.

I was worried that something would happen to Avery too, especially with the last phone call when Murphy couldn't hear him well. I really hope this show comes back - it just makes me feel good to watch it.

I looooooved it. So glad Avery is back home, safe and sound.

"He was cold," says Murphy when Avery asks if Benny's wearing a sweater!

The way they previewed this, I was expecting more cameos; not just Andrea Mitchell and Lawrence O'Donnell.

I loved Andrea's compliment to Murphy, how Murphy "broke the man" regarding Quayle. Hee.

I like that there was a sense of both finality and "life goes on" to this episode, so even if it doesn't come back, I don't really feel cheated on closure or anything like that at all (the idea of Corky's last scene ever being escorted out by the Secret Service after attempting to interview Mike Pence, screaming out loud about women's rights, kind of tickles me--she's come so far!) . Still, I DO hope there's some chance of it returning for a second season (and now I'm curious about where Miles and Diana might go!). Either way, though, while not perfect, I'd overall call this a success. And to all the haters out there who wanted this show to fail (I know, let me have this for second), I'll just use this line from one of my favorite country stars:

Loved Murphy pestering everyone, especially Frank, as she was so worried about Avery. And liked how they mixed the danger of Afghanistan with the quirky -like there being a Starbucks in Kabul (there likely is!). The ending was a little anticlimatic as I'd seen the preview with Avery being on the couch. But was still a nice way to end the episode. My favorite part might have been Corky getting carried out of the bar with her "Women rule" proclamation. Love these characters.

Did they have Christopher Rich on this year? A story with Miller Redfield would seem in order if the show returns.

I thought this was a nice ending but overall the reboot hasn't really worked for me. I have mixed feelings because I'm sentimental about these characters and there have certainly been moments that made me smile. But overall - yeah I think "clunky and forced" sums up how the reboot felt overall, at least to me.

I don't understand the hate either. Not hate watching. Hate. Why keep watching and commenting week after week? There are thousands of channels nowadays.

I've commented on this before but I don't think anyone is "hate watching" this show. There are viewers like myself who enjoyed the original run of the series and were happy to tune into this reboot and revisit these characters but found it lacking. Some episodes were better than others and there's always hope it will get better so we keep watching for that reason and for sentimental reasons. Doesn't mean we can't criticize its shortcomings.

I think the ratings speak for themselves and I don't think the show will be renewed. The fact that it was the only new episode to air in the CBS Thursday lineup this week strongly suggests the network is burning off what's left in the can.

It seems at times though that there were people who continued watching even though it seemed like they were clearly miserable, as if they had a gun to their head. How sad is that?

But hey, hope comes across differently in people, I guess. I don't want to judge. :)

They did not! I wonder if they asked him and he just declined/was unable to come back due to other commitments. I would have liked to have seen him again.

So would I.  I know 13 eps isn’t much time to work on certain storylines but I think TPTB blew a few opportunities here.  I kept watching hoping to see Avery’s sperm donor appear (and the emotional fireworks that might have followed) and seeing Miller again would have been nice.  In fact I wouldn’t mind a storyline in which he and Corky start dating.  I remember way back in the day they were attracted to one another (even though Corky was married at the time) and I thought there was good chemistry there.

Instead, all we got were Trump jokes.

Surprised how worried everyone seemed to be about Avery, since - as some have mentioned - he appeared on the couch in last week's coming attraction.

I didn't see the preview, so I had no idea.  I don’t think the previews are aired on the Canadian channel.

Yeah. there were a lot of Trump jokes.  According to Diane English and Candice Bergen, if I'm remembering this correctly, the whole purpose of bringing the show back was to go after the Trump administration in a...uh, hopefully.. comedic way.  The jokes weren't always very funny, but I don't think that was their total point. They really, really dislike what is going on in our country and they wanted to say something about it. They got 13 episodes to do that.  If they get renewed, I'm sure they will do something more eclectic.

I enjoyed all the episodes. When the original started all those years ago, I thought the first few episodes were extremely clumsy and forced. Thought Candice Bergen was terrible, but, dang if the show didn't grow on you. It got much better as time went on. Now, they all feel like part of my fictional characters family. I would definitely continue to watch if given the chance.

Yeah, I'm willing to suspend disbelief on a lot of things but not that. Why not spend another minute talking about Corky's very good point that a policy that prohibits Pence's female staff from individual meetings, while such meetings go on with male staff, hurts their careers.

On the other hand CBS has gotten some bad publicity with the Weatherly scandal so it might behoove them to let this show linger for another season and say.....see strong women.

It could go either way at this point.

Oh, I definitely wondered and worried about that, too. Like I said before, though, I felt there was enough closure here that even with the few stories teased near the end of the episode, I don't feel like I've been left hanging, you know? It's enough for me.

And compared to how some shows end, I'm just glad this didn't end with any embarrassing implosion or bad publicity. I'm good.

Loved Corky's shoes. Would have liked for her to get a one-on-one with Pence but he is scared of his own shadow & must hate women to have the policy he has. It's illegal in my book but he's too scared to consult me so there ya go. Does he have a daughter, sister, aunt? No way any of them haven't pointed out the unfairness of his actions. Urg.

He does have at least one daughter, Charlotte, who together with "Mother" wrote a book about the day in the life of the vice president from the point of view of their bunny, Marlon Bundo (which John Oliver's show then parodied in their own book, with the premise that Marlon Bundo is gay and overcomes a Pence-like stinkbug who is against gay marriage in order to marry his boyfriend, Wesley).
