I see him all the time in Duggar photos. He's there; it's just hard to tell in the mob of uninteresting looking people. He always looks surprisingly happy to me, too. His situation at home must have been pretty hellish for him to be happy there. It's difficult for any kid, no matter what his situation, to go and live in a strange place -- much less a cult compound where he is never allowed to leave, and not allowed to go to school, and not allowed to have friends, etc., etc., etc.

I'm glad he seems happy.

First and foremost, to me, though, is the fact that she's not at all unusual. They've had live-in Gothard-young-woman help for years and years, as far as I know.

You left out the TTH's great retirement plan. When these dispose-a-women are used up, they get to be married off to literal rapists!

I have no desire for a man (outside of limited situations wink wink) and I love my cats but I’m always leaving the house. I don’t mind going to movies and concerts alone sometimes but not ALL the time. I’m not sitting in my house staring at the walls cause I’m single!! I have some older cousins that are childfree that I hang out with which is nice. In the baby crazy 30s I’ll hang out with anyone that doesn’t bring a small child with them.

But a woman in Jana’s situation doesn’t have the options we have. That’s why I’m glad she has Laura- at least it’s someone who’s an adult to talk to and spend time with. Doesn’t mean she’s a lesbian- of course there’s nothing wrong with being a lesbian, where ever there is beauty and truth I find lesbians- it’s known.

Unpartnered adults still enjoy adult interaction and companionship, even without a romantic and sexual overtone attached.

***limited situations***

😂😂😂

@Scarlett45 I wish we lived in the same city!!! I would be your BFF for sure!!!

For one thing, Gothard women who are true believers won't get actual jobs or even hire themselves out for child care or housework to non-Gothardites -- so once they pass a certain age if they're not crazy about living with their own families or there are money shortages in their families, the zealots would probably see life with the famous and holy Duggars as a real gift! ...  I don't know how accurate this speculation is, but some have hypothesized that maybe Laura's own family has slipped in their Gothardness a bit (or more than a bit), while she remains steadfast .... If that were true it would be an additional reason for her to be excited about this Duggar gig .............First and foremost, to me, though, is the fact that she's not at all unusual. They've had live-in Gothard-young-woman help for years and years, as far as I know.

I trust your opinion @Churchhoney and I agree. @floridamom I think Laura is there to assist Jana with household work and be a companion for her.

Such arrangements were much more common in an era before industrialized caregiving and “suitable careers”( outside of limited specialities like teaching) for women of certain socio economic classes. If a family needed assistance caring for children, disabled adults or elderly relatives a woman would come to live with the family and assist, she might be a distant relative or a friend of a friend; she might be looking to make a match (things didn’t go well in her social circle at home), she may not want to marry but needs to support herself, she may have a calling for caregiving.

I’d rather be Laura than Tabitha Paine. Ugh I feel awful she married that POS, the worst thing is that she probably thought he was the best she could do.

Interesting thought- do you think these live-in helpers are paid?  Or is room and board (such as it is), the opportunity to be close with a well known godly-example family, and the chance to be famous on tv and social media the “pay” these women work for?

What happens when these women need SS income to retire?

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Retire! Ha, ha, ha, ha.

The role of a woman it to care for men -- full stop. If she doesn't marry, she'll go to another "godly" household that needs childcare and work there until she's not needed any more. Rinse and Repeat. Then, she'll die. She will be pitied and considered to be a woman who failed God -- her job was to have a family and produce warriors for Jesus.

No I don’t think Laura is paid. JB may “pay” her a small stipend so she can buy personal effects (toiletries and menstrual supplies), and she may be given control of certain accounts to buy groceries and other things but an actual salary?!! No.

If they're paid, it's probably under the table and well below minimum wage. Laura seems like she has nowhere else to go, so it wouldn't surprise me if JB takes advantage and pays her next to nothing, if it all.

I've said before that I think JB pays his kids in "Duggar Dollars" or some other kind of script. I think that "Duggar Dollars" are redeemable for cash for approved purchases: clothes, the occasional meal out, etc. I think that the boys use them to pay for their homes and utilities.

I would imagine that Laura gets a set number of "Duggar Dollars" each week and is allowed to redeem them for cash at JB's discretion just like the others.

As to retiring, I agree with the above that they just keep going from house to house forever. Even when my grandmother was growing up, she had a "spinster" aunt live with them to help with the children. I'm sure this cult doesn't trust any of the women to manage money; in fact, they probably think women shouldn't have to worry their "pretty little heads" about it. IMO, they probably think of women saving for retirement as a strange idea. They probably also feel that they're "lucky" to be supported by male relatives, not to mention they're working hard for it.

Yes there is no “retirement” for these women. Ideally they would go from home to home as needed, assisting with the running of a household until their later years. If the families they cared for were decent (and especially if it was their own extended family) they in turn would be cared for in their elder years.

@Westiepeach yes come join us for drinks!

So did we ever figure out where JD and Abbie went on their honeymoon?

No and I’m eager to know! The honeymoon episodes are very fun. Do you think JD would’ve said “no” to honeymoon filming? Is Jill the only married who didn’t have a crew on her honeymoon?

Remember on BUB when Gil flat out admitted he doesn't pay his sons for helping out in the tree business? His wording was they get "three hots and a cot" and that was enough. I'd bet any amount of money Boob is the same. Grifters of a feather, and all...

I give John David a pass on the "sexy" altar kiss. After all, he'd never been in a relationship before or even dated. He is so naive, and his upbringing was so sheltered, that he probably didn't realize that what he did might seem inappropriate. He was just trying to be funny.

I think he knew exactly what he was doing.  We may have finally found a Duggar that's good in the sack and cares about making his partner feel special.  It's a sign of the Apocalypse.

More an like an antebellum plantation. Prisoners at least get conjugal visits, contraband, free books to read, and the ability to socialize. God, it's depressing that I'd rather be in prison for 20 years then have their lives. The best prisons really are those without bars.

Yep. Because the prisoners have been unconsciously trained to KEEP THEMSELVES LOCKED INSIDE..... Overlords don't even have to work at it, after a while.

So rather than being the bachelor until the rapture, he may be the bachelor whose marriage brings it about?

A few things I noticed: he promised to keep his eyes only for her; she promised to keep her heart only for him. Seems like an odd and lame dichotomy.

I think this is related to the belief they have stated several times that men are more visually aroused, while women are more emotional...

Yeah, I know that's what it is. What it also is, is lame and wrong and patriarchal bullshit.

Well, he essentially just got sprung from what was previously a life sentence in a Supermax facility. Plus, he's an almost-29-year-old guy who now gets to have sex whenever he wants it, after not even being allowed to hold a woman's hand before .... Think of that. Not allowed! And he either went along with that or publicly but falsely declares -- as a grown man -- that he went along with it! And he's nearly 30! I'll bet he's happy. Prisoners sprung from life sentences are.

(I don't watch these, but I guess poor Josiah didn't seem happy? I'm guessing that if that's true, he's finally provided the evidence to prove the widely held hypothesis about his sexuality. Which makes his wedding to a woman a time when everybody should have been sad. (although I'm sure his disgusting parents -- and probably some of his brainwashed siblings too -- were jumping for joy.))

All these weddings really do is verify that the Duggar parents are scum and their ways are the ways of evil, greedy tyrants that are now harming children unto the third generation, in my opinion.

In my opinion, he has not been sprung from the Duggar version of prison since he is still part of the dog and pony show. He has some freedom aka marriage, but he is still been controlled by JB in some ways.

JD is certainly controlled by JB economically.  His only paid gig is flying a plane owned by his father for a company also owned by his father.  He may be released from maximum security prison, but he’s wearing a monitor and reports to his probation officer regularly.  If he strayed from the family storyline, I have no doubt Boob would jerk his leash immediately.

I am picturing JB sending out the bloodhounds to find JD. JB probably tells him to be part of the dog and pony show or no more flying.

Well, JB let Josh go far away from the compound to work for a non-Duggar-controlled organization, and we all know how badly that turned out. Of course, as far as we know - unlike Josh - JD didn't molest tiny little children or watch porn on a GOP candidate's campaign computers. So JB shouldn't have so much to worry about in terms of JD doing something to sully the Duggar brand.

But yeah, JB's about building the Duggar tribe which means keeping everybody together and (he hopes) pretty much under his thumb.

JB was probably worried the real truth about Josh was going to come out once he took the D.C. and was probably jealous Josh got the job instead of him. He was stupid to think the truth would never come out. JB probably wanted to make sure JD was going to keep his ducks in a roll Duggar style and let JD get married because fans and others were asking why JD was not courting or married yet. There is a method to his controlling famewhoring madness.
