Kate Chastain, star of Bravo reality show Below Deck, was arrested on Monday following a fight with her girlfriend in Melbourne Beach, Florida, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Melbourne Beach Police Department.

Chastain, who is the chief stewardess on the series’ charter yacht, was charged with battery by strangulation domestic violence after being arrested by Melbourne Beach officers.

She allegedly bit her girlfriend Ricio Hernandez on the forearm, inner bicep and leg after returning to their shared home from a bar intoxicated, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE. During the altercation, Hernandez said that she was also allegedly held down and “strangled” by Chastain, making her unable to breathe.

(Once again imagine if it had been Chandler who had the same history. Do you think it would be worth a conversation?)

This whole thing is irrelevant. He questioned Kate because he's obligated to do so. It has nothing to do with her history. He'd have done the same to any crew member accused of bullying.

True. But there was enough there to make an arrest. We don’t know who got paid off not to pursue it or what exactly happened. At least there was no in depth reporting thatI can find.

Once again if it were Eddie or Ben or Chandler or any dude it would not be shrugged off so easily.

Her arrest history is very revalent in the #Metoo era.

Sometimes if it wasn’t for a double standard we would have no standards at all.

i would love to see new chief stews on both franchises. I nominate Amy.

Since broadband/worldwide net, I come to not believe a damn thing anymore that I haven't experienced personally...and even that can be questionable give n what we know (or should know) regarding how fallible human perception is. lol

Plus nowadays, of such hyper pc and hyper fragile egos and sensitive feelings, just glancing sideways at another person will have them running to a safe space and calling the cops..,

Like the amsterdam idiot and pathetic darcy  in 'before 90 days' I know you all watch too, lol

"She tossed a shoe over near me. I vuz assaulted. I fear my life. I'm calling the police and have her arrested."

Kate's a petite toothpick. Rocio looks like even she would have no problem snapping Kate in two if push came to shove

Caroline and Chandler did mess up a bunch and were the cause of some of the problems that plague this crew of leaderless misfits.

You know like forgetting the gas for the barbecue and causing the man over board next episode.

Those rotten bastards.

I do think one thing is true. Caroline might be a dumpster fire but she is right.

Kate is a bad person.

The Kate+Josiah interviews on Bravo's site are horrendous.  I've been a fan of Kate's for a long time, but the guy who falls off the boat isn't the only one who went overboard.

Kate is being beyond mean - as is Bravo.  Watching made me uncomfortable.  Even Josiah seems taken aback by Kate's cruelty.

With Rocky and Rhylee, it's a fair fight.  Not so much with Chandler and Caroline.  They were clearly out of their element and not tough enough to do the job.   Kate is picking on weaklings - Chandler included.

As Kate said to Chandler, if she can't see how she's messing up, there is no hope.

When it happened people did take it seriously but it also never went farther than the arrest, innocent until proven guilty and all that.

The best I can determine is that the felony charges were dropped to a misdemeanor and were expunged after attending some court mandated rehab or anger management. Not quite having everything dropped.

It is totally relevant as to her behavior and shold be part of the mix. Caroline is definitely fragile and has problems. She was is not cut out for this life. But Kate is just a cruel and nasty person as she is showing now as others have mentioned.

I guess those court ordered classes didn’t stick.

Caroline is a self involved asshole. She was so dismissive of Adrien when he mentioned his father’s death she is more than capable of standing up for herself when she wants she just likes to play the victim. Chandler is also fully capable of defending himself they just can’t bexaise they are both in the wrong.

To each his own.  I find both Chandler and Caroline intellectually and emotionally weaker than Kate - by miles.   They asked for it, but they don't know they asked for it.  Therein lies the difference.

Based on his own words and actions Chandler clearly thinks he is superior to Kate so I imagine he would disagree with your assessment.

Mad for Caroline she is manipulative and not actually a victim.

Both are adults, I don’t see them as naive or needed to be handled with kid gloves.

Caroline in particular seems to be weak and troubled. I don’t enjoy watching a sad sack getting batted around by a bitch face.

Kate has a long history of torturing the third stew to entertain herself. Even Amy who is strong and confident and an excellent stew was discouraged and hurt by Kate’s highly organized butchery. Now that she has Josiah as her flying monkey she can go full wicked witch.

You know you should never go full whicked witch.

We need new blood.

In my gut, there is something very weird and scary about Adrian.  He seems like a talented chef, but a creepy person.  If we were about to get on elevator or go into a parking garage together, I would make up an excuse not to (forgot something!).    When he speaks, I do not believe that is natural voice or true speech pattern.  It seems like an act.

Thank goodness we have seen Ashton on WWHL earlier this season.  He is safe and well.  The preview was very upsetting, I cannot imagine what he and the crew went through living that.  If I did not know that he was fine now, there is no way I could watch next week.

It's like someone quitting an office job or being fired. They basically have security walk you off the premises. You dont get to make rounds and say your goodbyes and chill there.

Essentially, you become a visitor, with all of the associated limitations. Yes, you can generally say goodbyes, but you can't interfere with anyone doing their job. You aren't expected to stick around, but I presume Caroline had talked to the producers and they let her sack out while they made room/travel arrangements for her, hoping for a little more drama before she was gone. I don't know of anyone getting a security escort after quitting, but do for a firing for misuse of security privileges.

I was just so surprised when watching WWHL.  I realize she had heels on, but she was as tall as Josiah and taller than Andy!  Based on how slight her figure is, I always assumed she was a teeny little sprite, height-wise.

I could never stand to be around Caroline, but I don't think she is a asshole.  I think she has has a real mental illness.  What that is, I have no idea.

I have dealt with horrible people in the workplace.  Some you can tell are just horrible people.  Others, they have some kind of a problem and just don't see reality.  Neither one is a tolerable coworker.

I live in a rural community and jobs were hard to find.  The first 14 years were great.  Raises every 6 months, a $1500 bonus every 5 years you were there, my Christmas bonuses were $600 and I had Fri-Sun off at the end.

So when the new guys bought it, I was higher than minimum wage.  Once it became obvious how bad it was, I chose to stick it out, rather than take a giant paycut, in my 50's and the sole responsible economic earner in my house.

Also, I really liked the people I waited on daily.  I knew their family histories, watched their kids grow up and when Jim died, they put several thousand dollars together for me to help with expenses.

I chose to document really egregious behavior as they were doing some of the things you describe. Which?  I worked for the government and corporate back in the 80's.  They already did document when you were late, when you left, etc.  That's not new.  As long as I was there, I was going to protect myself against them until my ducks were in a row and I could get the same or better wage somewhere else.

And I did.  But you don't get a degree overnight.  Thank God for internet classes.  And an infinite amount of patience.....

Good for you!  That sounds like a horrible time in your life.  Congratulations on coming out on top and finishing your degree.  Deeply sorry about the loss of Jim.

What is with this crew and their ice cream obsession? Deprive them of it and they just fall apart.

Thank God Caroline is gone. I won’t miss watching her shake and interrupt herself. I think she pulled that “Never mind! I’m quitting right now!” stunt because she did not get a big enough reaction when she bitchily quit the night before. If fact, Caroline has been the bitchy one all along, as far as I’m concerned. She’s an expert at the nasty little digs, then usually walking off. I’m only sorry I didn’t have the pleasure of watching her get fired. Kate and Josiah were both juvenile and unprofessional in how they handled her latest ploy for attention (I quit now! Let me sleep!), but I totally understand the impulse. When you bait someone, don’t be surprised if they take the bait. Caroline wanted attention, and she finally got it. Good riddance.

Good riddance to Chandler, also. At least he managed to leave without completely humiliating himself, unlike Caroline.

Man up, Adrian! You felt threatened because Rhylee pushed a seat back towards you that you pushed towards her first? Yeah, that was terrifying.

Rhylee went and proved that she is a loser no matter who is in charge. I had really hoped she might shine with Chandler gone, but she gets all hurt because Ross forgot to pass out mosquito repellant. This is the guy who forgot to pass out shoes last time, so no big surprise. But apparently that was soul-crushing for Rhylee, and she had to react like it was the end of life as we know it. She sucks.

Then, in the previews, we see Ross supposedly hooks up with her. If that’s true, it’s as bad as Eddie hooking up with Rocky. Think with your brains, guys.

The loud music in and of itself is not significant but points to a pattern of immature vindictive behavior that would be part of her “documentation” of a hostile work environment.

I think you can see that the CaptaIn was concerned that Kate might have been at fault as he questioned her despite their TV relationship. Kate has a pattern of turning her team into a two against one situation. She did it with Amy, Rocky and now Caroline. Kate played power games at the expense of efficiency. Sure Rocky and Caroline have tons of issues but Amy is one of the best Stews in the whole franchise. With Kate it is always two against one. Not professional at all.

Kate is a bad person.

As solid as a person as Amy is, Kate's two against one games had her reach her breaking point.  The bullying behavior of Kate and Kat had Amy in tears on more than one occasion.  Kate is a mean and nasty piece of work who preys on those who are weak.  She does this EVERY season.

Not to take Caroline's side but they were preparing for the new charter and they wanted her to work to prep the yacht?

But she wasn't going to stay for the next charter yet she would have done some work towards it and the tip the crew would get.

Why would she help Kate and Josiah and the others get a tip which she wouldn't get a share of?

I don’t think she liked Jen. She constantly mocked her and put her down. She just didn’t have someone egging her on like her flying monkey is doing by providing an Amen chorus. So it was easier for her to get rid of the third stew on this charter.

I don’t think the replacement stew will be having a pleasant experience. The third stew never will because they are there to be a punching bag.

That is because Kate is a bad person.

Well, maybe because she received a full share of the tip on all the other charters without ever pulling her full share of the work?  I could see where it would be possible to interpret it as she owes My Seanna a couple of days of effort.  And seriously, since she would have had to leave before the next charter arrived, we're really only talking about one full day of work.  I'm sure she would have booked first thing in the morning with the charter arriving mid-day.

I've read a few times where people supposed it was production that encouraged Caroline to hang around a couple of days beyond quitting, because it might have taken time to make her arrangements.  Yet when Chandler was let go, he had no problem with packing and leaving immediately, as has every other person I can recall who got the ax on BD.  So, while it may have been production's interference, I'm more inclined to believe that it was Caroline's choice, because she hadn't gotten the big reaction she wanted the night before, OR she was hoping they would beg her to stay, OR she wanted to talk to Capt. Lee before going.  Or, all of the above.

Can't believe i looked this crap up....   Kate lists herself as 5'4", which I believe. Men otoh, exaggerate their heights, especially in showbiz.  Andy claims 5'9" but next to Kate and her 5-6" heels, he's probably 5'6"-7".  Maybe on the shorter side if he uses lifts in his shoes

Andy is short.  He's almost always shorter than male guests on WWHL.  And Josiah is a gymnast, so I would expect him to be compact.

Can you imagine the epic showdowns if Rhylee was the third stew?

She would have been complaining about being relegated to doing laundry and scrubbing toilets all the time and demanding to be taught how to make fancy cocktails.

If that's the case, then why give a 2 day notice?  If you have no intention of working, then just LEAVE.

From the moment that she realized she just wasn't feeling it, Caroline could have gone to Kate or Lee and told them she was leaving immediately. Instead she sits in bed and makes Josiah come to her. She's really manipulative and very performative. It's the reason she quit in front of the entire crew. She couldn't just pull Kate and Lee aside to tell them. It's why rather than quietly explaining to Josiah and Kate that she changed her mind about working those last 2 days, she locks the door and gives terse responses so that it would devolve into a screaming match.

if the producers got her a lock on her cabin door, they probably orchestrated this whole 2-day notice thing.

Probably had her give her notice in the crew mess in front of everyone, instead of just telling Kate.

Caroline is still a mess.  Yikes!  What did she expect would happen "here's my 2day notice." That was an interesting moment, I believe Kate said something along the lines that it was illegal to lock the door. I can understand that on a boat;  if something happened and you needed to get people out ASAP locks would be a hindrance. Perhaps the crew cabins have locks but they have been told not to use them for liability reasons? I don’t know, that doesn’t explain Kate saying “who gave a crazy girl a lock” or however she said it. I can’t imagine, and did not see, production giving Caroline some kind of paddlock or a paddock even working on a cabin door. And for door locks one would think the chief stew would have a master key. It’s all a puzzlement.

This show just repeats itself over and over. Chandler is Leon....the arrogant department head who can’t handle his responsibilities....... clashes with Kate......gets fired by Captain Lee.  Caroline is the third stew that Kate bats around like a wounded mouse. Sometimes they get fired sometimes they just get abused. They are the designated targets with the bad edits and no chance to redeem themselves. So yes they are targets and scapegoats. Not without fault for sure. Out of their depth. Sacrificial victims to the producers lack of imagination.

Below Deck is one of my favorite shows. I love the exotic locales. I just want it to be better. Kate and Captain Lee are played out. It needs new blood.

I was a little bit frightened for Caroline with that creepy music Kate blasted. Ross was too. Everyone seemed a little in shock of that tactic. Call me a bleeding heart. I couldn't stand her antics this season and she is off in a million ways.  But the music was creepy. I won't say "Kate is a BAD person" but an asshole?- DEFINITELY.  And that's ok. She just is. Idk how I'd react if I worked my fingers to the bone and covered for someone non stop and that person just whined about how mistreated they were and I "just don't like them." I agree with previous poster who said Caroline didn't jibe with any of the crew from the get and looked for all the ways to grab their attention bc attention =sympathy =friendship.  It'll be interesting come reunion time what Ashton & Ross (the 2 neutrals) have to say about her. I doubt she will attend the reunion though. She shouldn't.  She's too damaged a person.

To wrap it up, Caroline should have been gone as soon as the foot swelled. It's not a good sign if you've got swelling and all these other symptoms pop up & Dr doesn't know what's wrong. We hardly saw her interact with her "cappy"🙄. Odd considering all Her "problems" how she went to Kate, her least trusted, "antagonistic" superior.

I don't know if this is typical but when we were on a Nat Geo trip (boat size relatively small) there were no locks on the cabin doors. I didn't think one way or the other about it, but it makes sense for safety reasons.

Well, it would have allowed her to leave with decency and dignity given Kate and Josiah carried her through all the charters up til this point where Caroline got her share while bedresting.

I think we only saw part of a long list of Transgressions Against Caroline by Her Interior Overlords AKA Kate and Josiah (all written in puffy pen in rainbow colours on the front of specially purchased binder ) when she spoke to Cpt Lee. He had to treat her complaint seriously and was probably weighing up Caroline's potential for future cray and ongoing litigation. I also believe Kate was well aware and her clamming up wasn't necessarily disrespect for Lee even going there, but unwillingness to commit any more than she had to on camera. Kate knows how to play the game because Kate knows exactly what she did. Some of it possibly was actionable. She denies everything.

Caroline is indefensible, but Kate and Josiah were covertly alienating her and enjoying it from the jump. Like with their tres amusant little dance routines calculated to exclude the third wheel or make them look foolish trying to fit in. Kate is all about the teamwork except when excluding someone from the team is more captivating. I think Lee is well aware of Kate's capacity for malice but the trade off is her superhuman chief stew skills and she's great for tv. I mean, Hannah isn't in Kate's league, let alone ballpark.

You alll have to read Caroline's twitter, she is going off and she says she is 34,  My rescue dog acts more mature then she does.  She also says the following: Yeah. Hi @andy I'm a fellow JEW/POTHEAD/DEADHEAD TERRAPIN STATION IS MY FAV SONG TOO. I MADE YOU A BOWL OUT OF A SHOFAR. you invite psychopath and her flying monkey on the show. And make "Caroline," the drinking-word of the night.

As much as I can not stand her I could see some of the things being true and that Bravo is protecting Kate.  However I think in some ways Caroline and Kate are similar, they both do not get along with others, they deflect and they say things about others that are actually about them and the list could go on.  Please feel free to add more ways they are alike.

Some people are wondering if it is time to take have a new Capt and Chief Stew.  It would be interesting to see a new Chief Stew but since Capt/ Lee really is not a key player for all the drama I would be afraid if they ended up with someone like Capt Sandy and I for sure would quit watching.  What is the old saying be careful for what you wish.

In regards to a reunion, I really do not think they will have one, there have been times they have not had one.
