Spoilers for Under the Dome

Recommended Posts

How unsurprising about the major death.  It would actually be a surprise NOT to kill anyone off.  Why tune in when your favorite character might die.  I actually liked Dodie, that doctor mom and the woman who owned the diner but they were cannon fodder.

Sadly we're stuck with characters that are either annoying and/or bland.

Oh no

Big Jim gets attacked by a BBQ

Even weirder -- here's an animated GIF where the Scooby Doo gang gets attacked by a ghost throwing knives (though more likely some dumb dome-related shenanigans).

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/06/under-dome-episode-201-heads-will-roll_7.html

And Junior becomes a psychic, complete with crystal ball.

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/06/under-dome-episode-201-heads-will-roll_5.html

Based on the other photos on the SpoilerTV web site, the dome is no longer opaque and has become highly magnetic.

And there is some new guy in a cabin (where he was probably hiding out all this time with Maxine's other sister).

That makes about as much sense as the sudden meningitis outbreak that occurred after the dome came down.

Is the dome going to pull another last minute DEM to save them like last time.

There are 7 photos from the premiere that CBS posted:

http://www.cbs.com/shows/under-the-dome/photos/1001402/season-2-first-look/51588/

I've captioned them for convenience:

#1: The garbage can has fallen over. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

#2: Town hanging gallows is built in record time but everyone collapses from exhaustion.  Junior: Where does this wooden plank go?

#3: Are you There Dome, It's Me, Jim.

#4: Does everyone need a pick-me-up after the latest Dome-induced coma?

#5: Hi, I've been here the whole time.

#6: No, there's no more shampoo so we all have limp hair.

#7: The Dance of the Metal Objects, by Dome.

I'm not reading spoilers, but this headline kinda gave it away anyway so I'll post it in the spoiler thread.

"Stephen King kills off series regulars in Under the Dome"

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/television/2014/06/25/stephen_king_kills_off_series_regulars_in_under_the_dome.html

Series regulars as in plural?  Sheesh.

Quote from the article:

King likes these new shows where none of the characters are safe and anybody can go at any time. It was in that spirit he wrote this first new episode of Under the Dome. King says he “jumped at the chance to kill off a couple of loved series regulars.”

Ugh.  They shouldn't use the word "beloved" though since that doesn't exist on this show.  Still, I'm not looking forward to this, since if they kill some of my remaining fav's, there would be none left.

It depends on what they mean by 'series regulars', it sounds more like secondary characters that barely show up and are credited in the show anyway.

A little bit about episode five:

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-episode-205-reconciliation.html

So Rebecca is going to be a new bad guy!  She and Big Jim are the new Boris and Natasha!

Also, Black Lesbian Lawyer is still alive, so big plus.

She's just the token character that they trot out for a few scenes here and there, otherwise she's completely MIA the rest of the time.

Ugh, Rebecca sounds like the new Maxine and why should we care about Julia being the leader?  We've never seen any of her leadership skills or anything much at all besides being the bland female protagonist counterpart to Barbie's bland protagonist.

And we never see why she's special at all or why 1 of the other characters couldn't do what she did that the dome told her to do.

I'm not sure which is more ridiculous from those spoilertv photos -- that the barber shop is still open because Big Jim needs a shave, or the fact that they turn the Sweetbriar Rose into a triage center when there is a perfectly good hospital in town.

And the barber turns into a dangerous old coot that threatens Rebecca.

If the dome showers down acid rain (in the episode description accompanying those photos) that is so bad everyone has to wear raincoats to keep from getting burned, won't that also affect the crops ?

ETA:  Episode description for Episode 5 is up -- and the stupid continues.

"“Reconciliation” – Julia takes over as the leader of Chester’s Mill after the town becomes divided in the wake of Big Jim and Rebecca’s plans for population control. Meanwhile, Joe and Norrie help Melanie search for more clues about her identity at the Dome wall."

Dwight Yoakum has been in Chester's Mill this whole time?!?

Just like Sam Verdreaux and Rebecca Pine -- apparently laying low until shit got real so they could seize power.  If more previously unknown people keep popping out of the woodwork with increasingly lame reasons why they were out of touch with the town for two weeks, it will be time to check out (it's getting close even now).  I'm still waiting for the Harlem Globetrotters or some Russian astronauts to show up (because it's looking more and more like the inspiration for the writers for this show is Gilligan's Island).

Harlem Globetrotters:  "We've been practicing in our underground arena for the last weeks, we just took an elevator up to the surface.  What is HAPPENING AROUND HERE??"

But they'll show up JUST in the nick of time to throw the, uh, magnetic field distorter made out of duck tape, mechanical pencils, and Barbie's chest hair right through the very tiny opening in the, uh, sonic converter that has to be, uh, suspended from the church steeple to align with the migratory patterns of the butterflies.  So it'll be a miracle.

Spoiler TV has lots of info on the next 3 episodes -- and they get even more ridiculous, if that's even possible.

Episode 4 -- “Revelation” – As conditions in Chester’s Mill worsen, Big Jim and Rebecca consider resorting to the extreme measure of population control, which drives a wedge between Barbie and Julia. Meanwhile, clues to Melanie’s past and her connection to the Dome are revealed,

-- Drownsie finds another dome egg

-- Rebecca has determined that the town only has 7 days of food left and it's time to start culling the herd -- with swine flu she's been manufacturing. Are they not going to harvest the crops that they saved 2 days ago (in showtime) to save people from starving (or should we just add the crops to the dropped plot thread pile)?

-- Barbie and Julia are in conflict because Barbie is on Big Jim's side in the population control issue (that's the 'wedge' mentioned in the episode description above, but it makes no sense at all), which drives Julia into Sam's arms for support.

Episode 5 -- “Reconciliation” – Julia takes over as the leader of Chester’s Mill after the town becomes divided in the wake of Big Jim and Rebecca’s plans for population control. Meanwhile, Joe and Norrie help Melanie search for more clues about her identity at the Dome wall.

According to some of the promo photos:

-- they find the entrance to a mysterious tunnel behind a locker (probably at the high school)  This will probably be the cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

-- Fivehead's Mom # 2 is back on her feet, and helping Julia depose BIg Jim

-- Big Jim and Rebecca end up in handcuffs (probably a result of Julia taking control of the town)

Episode 6 -- “In The Dark” – When Barbie and Sam set out to investigate a mysterious tunnel, a cave-in severs their path back to Chester’s Mill. Meanwhile, Julia and Big Jim face off in a struggle for power as a dust storm rages in the town,

The mystery tunnel -- is this related to the Springfield Mystery Spot from the Simpsons ?  Is this tunnel where Lyle the Barber had been holding out for the two weeks since the Dome came down.  You just know that Barbie and Sam are going to bond in the tunnel when they are confronted with possible death due to the cave-in, or maybe they will exit the dome and go hit Starbucks.

From the TV Guide article in the Media forum, there are 3 big spoilers in the TV Guide article (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Under-Dome-Season-2-1084701.aspx)

The first is about Barbie:

"While Vogel admits leaving Julia in the dark about Barbie's espionage act is certain to "cause problems," two even bigger threats loom on the horizon. The first is the reveal of a major secret regarding Barbie's connection to the dome itself. "Last season, it was assumed that Barbie was just an unfortunate stranger who happened to be passing through town when the bubble came down and trapped him there," says Vogel. "This year, we'll find out that Barbie has a much bigger role in the whole thing. It wasn't an accident that he was in Chester's Mill at that time."

So what is Barbie's connection to the Dome -- is he an alien ?  Was he also killed by Sam Verdreaux 26 years ago (and that's how Drownsie knows him -- from heaven).

The second spoiler is about Sam: "Those amends will probably have to wait now that it's been revealed the dashing recovering alcoholic is the one who axed cute waitress Angie (Britt Robertson) to death."

We didn't really know that yet, though it has been suspected.  He could have got those scratches on his right shoulder wrestling cougars while drunk.

The 3rd spoiler is: someone gets out from the Dome -- alive.

Because getting out from under the dome dead is so much more preferable.  I bet it's Junior so he can go find his mom and her shitty art

Actually, from this spoliertv tidbit, it looks like it's going to be Barbie:

http://www.spoilertv...home-press.html

You know Barbie won't make it outside the dome -- it's just the Dome frakking with his mind.  He'll find dear old dad playing a pickup basketball game with the Harlem Globetrotters and some Russian Cosmonauts deep inside the tunnel.

Spoilertv also has some promo clips for Episode 5, and it's not just the stupid that burns.

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-episode-205-reconciliation-2.html

To solve the problem with running out of food, Julia arranges a food drive -- why didn't Big Jim and Rebecca think of that ? It seems so much easier than trying to kill a large fraction of the population.

Only right before the food bank explodes in a ball of flames -- maybe it was the propane-powered generator inside the food bank building, maybe it wasn't, maybe it was the Dome -- Barbie discovers that someone has been taking food from boxes and then re-sealing them to make them look like new.  Oh, the conspiracy of it all -- who could be stealing food ?

Well, they keep referencing this city called Zenith, where Barbie and Drownsie used to live.  The tunnel probably leads to there.  Either that or Barbie ends up in Wonderland.

And you're right, ottoDbusdriver, the stupid was strong in those clips.  Especially when Big Jim says, "Everybody in town thinks I'm a serial killer".  HE IS A FUCKING SERIAL KILLER, YOU STUPID WRITERS!

That would have to be one long tunnel since there are no cities conveniently nearby, but if they get into nonsense where the Dome can punch holes in the space-time continuum, sure, why not ?

A food drive! So where is this food for the drive coming from? If it is was there all this time then why didn't anyone think of gathering it up before now? Oh the stupid, how it burns, and yet I know I'm going to continue to watch. At least this plot has something to do with the fact they are stuck under the dome so that 's at least a step up from alien visitors and long dead teenagers coming back to life.

Things get even whackier in another promo clip released today for Episode 5

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-episode-205-reconciliation_24.html

-- for some reason, lots of people are gathered by the dome, including the Scooby Doo gang (finally, someone's taking a look outside the Dome to see if anyone is trying to help them, maybe)

-- some random guy (previously unseen) pulls a gun during the town meeting where they are announcing the food drive

-- Sheriff DJ Phil is holding someone hostage with a knife (it might be Fivehead's Mom #2), and he appears to be jealous of Barbie's heroics (WTF ?)

-- Joe gets some quality smooching time in with Drownsie, and boy is Fivehead pissed. And then Drownsie and Fivehead get in a bit of a catfight.

-- Sam looks like he is about to smother a sleeping Junior with a pillow.

Wow !!! Just, wow !!  Are there any stupid plot ideas they haven't tried yet ?

Notes and spoilers from the San Diego Comic Con - Under the Dome panel

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-comic-con-2014-full-panel.html

There was a whole lot of chit-chat about nothing in particular -- Kevin Frazier from 'The Insider' who moderated needed to ask better questions vs. some of the fluff questions he asked.

  • Rachel LeFefevre (Julia) showed up to the panel cosplaying as Starbuck from BSG (she even had the huge tattoo on her upper left arm).
  • Alexander Koch (Junior) showed up to the panel cosplaying as Daryl from Walking Dead (complete with crossbow).
  • EP Neal Baer confirmed that Barbie actually finds a way out of the dome (at least temporarily), it's not Dome shenanigans messing with his head (I'm still thinking there's some funky wormhole nonsense involved).
  • Dean Norris is apparently a shill for Microsoft Surface, but Rachel is getting no Prius love from Toyota.
  • apparently they showed clips from Episode 6 before the panel, and the tunnels are supposed to look really cool
  • EP Neal Baer stated that they have great adventures ahead for upcoming seasons (if they are as shitty as the ideas so far in Season 2, that doesn't bode well), and they have from 3 to 5 seasons of material planned out.
  • First spoiler -- Barbie is a trust fund baby, not a working class guy, who joined the military to get away from his father (no, that's never been done before .... cough ..... cough ... John Sheppard in Stargate Atlantis)
  • Second spoiler -- Apparently Sam is being controlled by the Dome, he's not just a homicidal drunk for no apparent reason.
  • Third spoiler -- Big Jim is going to help save the town from further climate changes within the dome in upcoming episodes (which means he gets out of jail fairly soon).

More like making more bs up as they go along, none of this feels planned.

This show is fascinating. I haven't watched it since mid-season 1, but I still read this forum and all the news, because it's just utterly baffling to me how a show this bad can still draw in such a huge audience. These writers have to be some of the most incompetent morons in the business. Most mystery shows fall apart after a few seasons, but not before the first season is even finished. The complete lack of common sense and the disconnect from reality is just so bizarre, I can't help but be amazed.

The episode description for episode 8 is out -- http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-episode-208-awakening-press.html

“Awakening” – When Barbie enlists his father’s help to reach out to Julia, he realizes that Don may know more about the Dome than he is letting on. Meanwhile, Big Jim appoints himself sheriff of Chester’s Mill, on UNDER THE DOME, Monday, August 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Brett Cullen returns as Don Barbara, Barbie’s father."

CHEAT TWEET: Can Barbie trust his father? Don’t miss an all-new #UnderTheDome to find out!

Seriously -- can Barbie trust his father ?  Does Barbie drag his dad back under the Dome via THE TUNNEL ?  If so, why don't they all just leave via THE TUNNEL ? Or is Barbie still outside the Dome trying to get back in.  And serial killer/attempted mass murderer Big Jim is going to be the new sheriff in town.  That's not going to end well.

Barbie's father is played by the same actor that played Goodwin, one of The Others from 'Lost' that had an affair with Juliet.

A new promo for episode 6 was posted on SpoilerTv web site, and it is just as ludicrous as previously hinted at during the San Diego Comic-con panel

http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/07/under-dome-episode-206-in-dark-promo.html

There's a sandstorm inside the dome.  Where are the winds coming from ? Where is all the sand coming from ?  There are no deserts under the dome, so it has to come from somewhere.  And Rebecca's big worry is that the sand will plug the holes in the dome and block fresh air from getting in.  Seriously.

I don't want to get all sciency on the high-school science teacher, but grains of sand are HUGE compared to oxygen molecules -- and she should know that. Plus, how would they even stop that from happening ?  Are they going to build a vacuum cleaner to suck all the sand off the dome ?

And the Scooby Doo gang plus Drownsie discover another egg.

The tunnel under the high school leads to a mine of some sort, what with the fact that there are ladders and support beams in the tunnel (as well as the obligatory cave-ins that occur at times of plot convenience).  Wouldn't anyone who had lived in Chester's Mills all their life know that the town was built over an old mine ?

At this point, I am starting to believe the writers have a wall filled with cards printed with different natural disasters/diseases and every week they throw a dart and which ever card it hits - that's the disaster of the week. It's like Gilligan's island but they're stranded under a dome. I'm kind of hoping that they really do have a card that says "The Harlem Globetrotters come out of hiding and play a game with Barbie, Jim, Jr, Joe and Sam."

Come on writers, embrace the stupidity that is UtD and go all out with the no-way-in-hell-could-that-ever-happen plot contrivance. Sandstorms, red rain....you're almost there now anyway, so why not?

Drownsie finds another egg, and the entire Scooby Doo gang goes for a walk, with the egg, in THE TUNNEL, while Barbie goes rappelling down a steep cliff inside THE TUNNEL.

If this were truly a Stephen King tv show, there should be giant rats down in that tunnel (a la 'Graveyard Shift').
