...its like someone did a bunch of acid, then played Pokemon Go in their living room while The Big Sleep was on in the background.

Also as crazy as this looks, it still manages to look infinitely more sane than the Super Mario Brothers movie, so Nintendo has that going for them.

I don't know what's happening. Why am I into this?!

As somebody who's never played or watched Pokemon, it's because it's a damn good trailer.  You've got the cast, and it's obvious the people who made this love what they're making a movie about.  That helps out, you can tell that a lot of care went into it.

Also, the really good use of "Holding Out For A Hero" in the trailer.  Never underestimate how good use of music in a trailer can suck you in.

We saw this today! It was pretty good! Not perfectly plotted or anything, but it was enjoyable and funny and surprisingly heartwarming at times. It was fun to spot all the Pokemon throughout the movie and they made the world feel very realistic. I'd recommend it if you're into Pokemon or just looking for a movie to see.

*I originally said "with kids" at the end of the last sentence above, but screw it- this is just a fun movie to see no matter how old you are!

I know nothing about Pokemon but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The various Pokemon's were adorable, Pikachu was just too cute for words. The concept was pretty interesting and though I still don't quite understand the bad guys motivation that didn't ruin my enjoyment at all. I just went with "villians be nuts".

It was worth the cost of admission for the mime scene alone. Funniest thing I've seen in ages.

I, in my 40s, went with two friends both in their 30s. None of us have kids. They knew slightly more about Pokemon than I did but none of us ever played it or whatever. We all enjoyed the movie a lot.

Finally saw it and it was cute. I thought that I was over Pokemon a long time ago, but when they started playing the theme music at the CMN station , I may have geeked out just a little.

That little yellow fuzzball Pikachu was adorable in CGI form, and Ryan voicing him was hilarious. I loved the Psyduck scenes, especially when he made Pikachu rub his webbed feet, LOL.

Another big LOL was the tearful rendition of the theme song.

I'm ashamed I didn't see the big twist of Tim's dad being in Pikachu's body all along coming. But when the Pokemon started swapping bodies with humans, I was all, "Wait a minute....oh...."

All of my Pokemon childhood memories are flooding back! I admit, I seriously geeked out when we heard the original theme in the radio, and then when they had that tearful rendition of the theme again.

Pikachu with his fuzz and his little hat was so adorable! And I loved Ryan Reynolds as his voice, and then as the dad. I cant believe that I didnt see it coming that he was merged with Pikachu until the reveal, even when the bad guys big plan was revealed. Generally I thought all of the Pokemon looked either adorable cool, and generally seeing Pokemon interact with people in a "modern" setting was really interesting. I enjoyed this world a lot, mixing a modern universe with Pokemon and souls and other Pokemon stuff, and concepts like a city where Pokemon do mundane jobs without fighting or Pokeballs and they have human partners they bond with. I am really excited to see more of this world in its inevitable sequel!

Also fun seeing Chris Geere from Your The Worst show up here, and Bill Nighy adds gravitas to everything he does, even doing a crazy plot with taking over Pokemon bodies to evolve or whatever. I thought that the evil plan would be to spread mistrust between humans and Pokemon, Zootopia style, but this plot was certainly more out there, I kind of loved it. Pure supervillain stuff.

Just came out on Blu-Ray, so I watched it, damn, it was entertaining.  Likable characters, letting Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds being the ones to carry the movie was a good decision, hilarious moments ("Talk you stupid mime!"), fantastic CGI, good story, and good action.

Also, I don't think it's possible to not immediately like Ryan Reynolds in a movie.
