I believe you're talking about the one where Joy was moderating and she apparently took a swallow of water then spit it on the floor and said something akin to "Let this water purify the lies she just put in my mouth" about some mischaracterization McCain had made. Too bad it didn't make it to air, that would've been hilarious, but I imagine the pro-McCain producers wouldn't let anything through purposely that makes the princess look bad--difficult as that task must be.

That is what happened and it was all over facebook..

Didn't she just say, in one of her rants, let's call a spade a spade? Not initially a phrase that was considered racist (400 years ago),but I am pretty sure everyone today would consider it that.

I still hear that expression tbh. I give Meghan benefit of the doubt that she didn't mean to be offensive. Meghan admitting racism is an issue alone is progress. She is so patriotic that I think it pains her to talk about anything historically or currently ugly in this country.

I found this interesting. Now I'm hoping I haven't used any of these words or expressions!

Looks like ratings have been dropping, half a million less viewers than this time last year whereas the CBS soap operas have gone up a million. That would explain why this week, some of the arguments on the show felt staged.

https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2021/05/daytime-broadcast-ratings-for-the-week-of-may-10-14-2021

In March, they had around 2.7 million viewers, and now they're at 2.3 two months later.

Interesting information, thank you. Could it be because last year was an election year? I get that no one wants to watch women politely share cutesy parenting stories for an hour, but some of the arguments make my blood pressure rise. I wish they'd debate like adults, but I guess that'll never happen thanks to Meghan.

Does anyone know how far the ratings have dropped since January 4th aka The Princess' Big Return?

They need to get back into the studio and not have endless 2 minute comments....opps commercial time - we'll  come back whoever.

Then MM throws a fit - another commercial!!!

Yes, The View is about views - but views with statements.

Not 2 minute comments from each of them.

Oh - and Whoopi asking each of them the  same 3 ways each time.

IMO The View should be a show with discussion...not comments.

YEs, the format right now is awful.  Whoopi introduces a topic, then asks each person to answer a question about thee topic.  Joy, Sara, and Sunny get a minute, sometimes 2, then Meghan gets 5 or 6 - however long she can string a run-on sentence.   It's like a third grade class version of how a discussion should go.  the only time there's any back-and-forth is when Meghan YELLS, and then Whoopi cuts her off and goes to break.

if this was the way the show debuted its first season, it would have been cancelled immediately.

At this point it's obvious Meghan is being allowed to take as much time as she wants.   For what reason I don't know.  If I were her cohosts I would be questioning why.

I'm not surprised ratings are down.  The election is over.  Hot topics are tepid at best.  And they aren't drawing the best guests.   And oh yeah Meghan McCain is probably turning viewers off. Just judging from what some of our own posters are saying they aren't watching as much as they used to.

Not to mention the animosity and contempt between the ladies make it very hard to watch.  I blame this on Megan who is determined to derail the conversations with her lies and distortions of the facts to suit her agenda. I really despise her and the people in charge of the show are even worst for allowing this to go on. I hope the low ratings will be a wake up call for them to re-assess and take action to make the show more enjoyable for the hosts and the audience.

Not only that, but she'll STILL talk over Joy, Sara, Sunny and Ana. None of these ladies have spoken publicly about this imbalance, but I would be steaming if I were them. Still, I loved the not-so-veiled barbs Ana and Sunny threw The Princess' way on Friday.

One of my friends (a Black woman) admitted that she no longer watches the show solely because of MM. Also, people here have mentioned other factors as to the drop in ratings...people are going back outside the home to work, the weather is getting nicer and people want to be outside, etc. Hopefully the producers and ABC will do some real soul-searching to see if MM is really worth keeping on the show. To me, she’s an albatross - and I only see it getting worse when they go back to the studio and in front of an audience.

I don't doubt some of it is her. The show is out of step with the mood of the country right now, imo, by promoting her over-the-top hate-filled attitude and Real Housewife antics. I think most viewers are tired of the past five years of reality show lunacy in the news, and The View is still stuck in that trend. Moreover, the song and dance with her has become old hat. Everyone knows how every argument will go with her screaming at the end of the topic. Something like that is only interesting when you're waiting for the other shoe to drop (she gets fired or someone curses her out, something like that), but you can only keep that waiting game going so long before the casual viewers start to feel played.

Thing is when MM goes wild Whoopi just cuts to commercial.

I always feel short changed, lol.

Especially when MM often answers the question Whoopi asks her (in 3 ways) is not even on topic.

I'm a big Real Housewife fan, but I hate what Meghan brings to the show.

With a Housewife show, it's one hour of a silly reality show on Bravo per week. It's not a daytime women's talk show where you get some politics and girl talk. I like the lifestyle porn of the RH, and the fights can be interesting because sometimes there's story there. Plain old bitchiness toward your innocent coworkers every morning is not entertaining. It's creating a toxic work environment for the rest of the hosts and raising the blood pressure of the audience.

Thank you! A lot of people are traumatized and want to have at least a bit of a lighter time now. We’re not putting our heads in the sand but after years of the former guy and the pandemic, most of us don’t want to be screamed at with a scowling face and sour mood every single day about bad science, anger in politics and her team and on and on with that mean, crabby face of hers and her constant interruptions. Today’s interruptions were terrible, not letting even Whoopi talk. Whoopi seems completely exhausted with her. She interrupted Sunny too. She can’t talk about a hopeful future because that means the libs are better at this leadership stuff and she know it. So just drag everything down at a million miles a minute. People want a bit of happiness and hope and are getting tired of her.

I don't think she get endless time. Maybe a bit more time to get out all the conservative points...since Joy, Sunny & Sarah are saying practically the same thing 3x as much.

IOW, if each person's segment is supposed to be 3 minutes, that's 9 minutes for the liberals. So even if Meghan speaks 5-6 minutes, the liberal view is still ahead and spoken more.

Sure, if you choose to see the show as a political debate between two teams.  But that's not what The View is.

I'm sure that's how *she* thinks of the fact that she talks way too long. If she wanted more time for the conservative viewpoint, she shouldn't have run other conservatives like Abby off this show. She should only get the same amount of time as everyone else.

The View is not Crossfire where two opposing political viewpoints are expected to be heard.   For many years viewers didn't necessarily know what the cohosts political views were.   And even when we did (Star let it be known she was a Democrat) it wasn't a foregone conclusion which way they would see any particular topic.  Meghan has become predictable.  She automatically takes the position that is opposite what  her cohosts think.   If Joy says the sky is blue Meghan will say nope it's cloudy today.  Just because she has a different view than the rest doesn't mean she gets to have more time to express it.

It may not be Crossfire, but it's certainly not "The Talk" either.

Yeah, but it sucks.  I mean it's far better than The Talk, or Wendy Williams, but it still sucks.

It would be like if The Jerry Springer Show had been an awards darling... Because that's what The View has descended into, these staged toxic arguments between one person and the others. They were never high entertainment or anything, but never this embarrassing.

Yes, "The View", "The Talk" and even "Wendy Williams" were all snubbed this year by the Daytime Emmy voters -except for a very few 'low key' nominations.  They've been long-time nominees and winners...wonder who voted for the noms this past season ?

Snubbed implies they deserve it.

Frankly, of those shows only The View has EVER deserved nominations... and not recently.

Looks like the voters wanted fresh shows - 'GMA 3: What You Need to Know' , 'Red Table'. 'Tamron Hall'.

I guess they want to prove they're still relevant.

Thank you for posting.

I noticed these highlights:

"As anyone should when they go quit a job, you go sit down with the executives and you tell them why. And I spoke to them before that as well, about concerns that I've had on the show and environment and things like that. I said, 'I'm walking out these doors, but I hope that certain things that we talked about will change,'" she says. "But, of course, everyone wants to write about the drama, because that is the show."

And of former colleague Meghan McCain, she says, "Our families have always been close and we always will be, and I'm so thrilled that she's a mom. I think she's a totally different person as well after becoming a mom, as we all are."

Surely the environment was largely due to Meghan, but I don't doubt others there do not help the situation, as no one puts her in her place.

There's so much romanticizing of mothers and motherhood. I'm sorry, but Meghan is the same brat she always was. As adorable as Liberty is, she hasn't softened Meghan one iota.

From the article:

For Huntsman's 35th birthday last month, View moderator Whoopi Goldberg sent a note and a box of chocolates. "I'll text Joy [Behar] about something random. Sunny [Hostin] just sent me her book," Huntsman says.  And of former colleague Meghan McCain, she says, "Our families have always been close and we always will be, and I'm so thrilled that she's a mom. I think she's a totally different person as well after becoming a mom, as we all are."

Sounds like Abby had to be prodded to mention Meghan. She started the show being friends with Meghan and left apparently not being friends with Meghan. Geez I wonder who to blame for that.

No, Abby is right. Becoming a mother has changed her.  It made her even worse.

"The story of what she (Abby) does next begins with what she decided to stop doing: squeezing herself into a kind of role, depending on the audience, ritualistically scrolling Twitter each morning, "thinking about the next extreme comment I have to make about something."

If that's what the producers of The View want, then Meghan's doing a helluva good job.  LOL!

The ratings have been released for May '21 sweeps. Of note: ALL the daytime talk shows were down in total viewers, compared to May '20 sweeps. Of course, this is because were in a pandemic a year ago, when everyone was afraid to leave their homes and were watching TV (especially those working from home). This May, the worst of the pandemic was over as everyone returned to work and left their homes.

In the ratings for the current May sweeps, soap operas and game shows were actually up in viewers for May '21 compared to May '22. This is explained because since mid-April '20, soaps and game shows went into 'rerun mode' due to the fact they had to cancel all tapings of new shows by mid-March '20. No one was watching repeats of soap operas or game shows in May, June or July (soaps and game shows didn't come back with new episodes until August).

Talk shows were live last May, though remote - and viewers were at an all time high. So this May '21, viewers dropped considerably across the board. 'The View' lost around 500,000 viewers compared to last May, but remains on top as the most-watched network TV talk show on daytime television. Yup - still #1.

It's closest 'competitor' (format-wise) is 'The Talk', which was barely still alive during May '21 sweeps, the first real look at the show with long-time host Sharon Osbourne gone (she was fired in March).  The show picked up a slightly small amount of viewers in certain demographics, but is solidly in very last place in the ratings.

Another talk show of note which saw a huge drop in ratings from May '20, is the ABC show "GMA 3: What You Need to Know".  It was a solid hit a year ago, when it dedicated each show to the pandemic.  Now that the pandemic is over, the show is sinking in the ratings.

According to WENDY WILLIAMS today Sara is leaving the show, too.

She first covered MM's announcement that she's leaving the show (to a big round of applause from the audience which WW wasn't expecting), and claimed none of the other cohosts knew about this until yesterday morning.  She also believes MM wants to stay in DC with her family and not uproot back to NYC with a new baby. She didn't cast any doubt that this was MM's decision - not ABC's.

She then said ABC will have two seats to fill, because Sara is also leaving the end of this season - which caught everyone by surprise, but she thought Sara already announced it. She assured everyone it's true - Sarah is going, too. (She also said Sara is 'easily replaceable').
