S11.E08: Chalk This Way

Painting with the chalk seemed smart & I was pretty wowed by the pink spider. Definitely would have given Team Cleen the win.

LOL'd when Nunez said he couldn't believe he was saying it, but yeah, Jimmy was safe.  I was right there with him.  It wasn't a GOOD tattoo - that wolf head had serious problems and I still don't really understand what he was trying to do with it.  But, I did think Angel's was worse.  I didn't get that it was all supposed to be under water until Oliver (maybe) said the black things at the top were supposed to be sharks.  I feel bad for the poor guy who was really wanting his first color tattoo (but - you go on Ink Master, you have to know you are taking a risk).  But, really - not a good design, not a good tattoo, didn't really meet the challenge.

Seems like every week, I say "If you can't do x, then you shouldn't be an Ink Master".  So many this season seem so limited in everything.

I liked Tiffer's & Chris's tattoos.  Not really remembering the rest right now.

Every time an artist says they only have two years of experience and so they don't know how to do this and that, I just remember Anthony and how he rocked it even though he had the least experience.

Angel definitely deserved to go home. She is a great artist, but that tattoo was jacked. You could see Nunez's excitement in getting to send her home. He was almost giddy.

Amanda had a good idea, but she needed to outline things more.

I think Turk is going home next week.

Those were very nice chalk drawings to show dimension and depth. The spider was definitely a more engaging concept, though.

I appreciated that the judges considered Turk's crappy undersea tattoo to be one of the worst. He keeps skating by and it bugs me.

The judges didn't check with me, but I'd rather have Angel's octopus than Amanda's eagle.

Tiffer is running away with this, which is deserved but makes for a predictable and slightly boring season. The other finalist is up for grabs. Maybe TeeJ, if he gets his head in the game.

Why does everyone think Turk is such a great tattooer? Is his old man beard fooling everyone to thinking he is wise? His tattoo looked like it had been baking in the sun for five years and he refuses to listen to his coach, who told him exactly what the judges did.

I think it was a really good drawing of an octopus, but the color in it wasn't tattooed very well.  Even then I still think it is better than the eagle.

I think Turk tattoos what he would want tattooed on himself.  So as an older guy he wouldn't want a bright colorful tattoo so keeps doing these dull tattoos.  He does really need to start listening to advice given to him.

The artists must use their imaginations to create mind-bending masterpieces with sidewalk chalk. The grudge match continues.

What was with Team Christian all turning up in matching red hoodies?

Even though the Judges sent home the right person, Oliver needs to think before he talks. Jimmy's wolf head was terrible, but what the hell badgers and raccoons has he seen that looked like Jimmy's wolf head? I do hope that either Jimmy or Kyle go home next week. I'm so sick of them hugging each other one minute, and then having a brotherly pissing contest the next.

What was Christian thinking allowing one of his best artists to create a tattoo that didn't have a background on "nature-scape" day? Is it not standard procedure to at least glance over everyone's tattoo design to make sure there are no glaring flaws? As someone mentioned, besides the octopus color being rushed, it was actually a nice looking tattoo, but in no way did it show any sort of nature.

Someone joked that in every season of ink master there is at least one "old guy who's been tattooing 20 years yet still sucks". Turk is mediocre in every way. We're almost halfway through the season and yet I haven't seen a single thing from him that I genuinely enjoyed.

Tiffer is killing it. I daresay this is starting to reach Scott Marshall level of domination. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he rips off 3 or 4 more wins before the finale.

And they're always dirty looking old guys with long beards.  Turk reminds me of that guy was it last year or year before? who always wore a cowboy hat and whose tattoos always looked like mediocre AmTrad flash from the 70s.

I will give Angel this, she tried to tell the guy what she was good at and he certainly would have seen her portfolio.  She told him straight out that color would mean more time to do a less detailed tattoo and he just wouldn't budge.

I'm not a real fan of black and gray so I get wanting color, but I wonder... Could somebody get a b&g and have it colored later on or does the shading make that difficult to come out not looking like a cover up?  I got all my tattoos back before the tattoo explosion happened and before b&g really became a thing so I'm not too well versed on them.  If that was possible and I got a b&g artist, I'd go for their best and then get color added later.

But color or not she didn't hit the challenge.  She didn't really do a naturescape and her tattoo lacked dimension.  Maybe it would have saved her as the eagle tattoo was pretty bad but we will never know.

There's no one that I actively, really hate this season except for Christian and Cleen - LOLOL!!

Seriously, at least Nunez can finally get his pet, Cleen, a win, because you know that's where we're headed. Tiffer is probably the best one on the show, anyway, so even though he's connected to Cleen, the benefits are two-fold: maybe if Cleen finally gets a win, we'll be done with him, and the best artist (Tiffer) would have won, so victory.

The artist that went home this week (is that Angel?)... I kept seeing Rachel Dratch doing an SNL sketch as a competitor on InkMaster so she was distracting for me. Sorry to see her go though because we're already down to only one woman left. I realize it's a male-dominated profession, but I have a hard time believing there are no good female artists out there. I mean, we've previously SEEN some on this very show.

Oh, I have no problem with her going home for not hitting the challenge.  Or, as I call it, "pulling a Krusemann".  I was speaking to the canvas wanting a full color tattoo (his first?) and being disappointed in it.  I get that the producers probably nudge them to make up the most outlandish shit imaginable for the skull picks, but then you need to weigh what you "absolutely, positively have to have" with what the artist can do to make your tattoo the best it can possibly be.

That's why I was wondering if you can add color later to a black and gray or if it would just end up a blotchy mess.
