I’m Black, and I kind of sit on the fence about this. On one hand, I think that it’s less offensive to wear make up  if you’re dressing up as a specific person. Years ago, I went to a Halloween party and a good friend of mine wore black face to be Rick James. This was during the height of the Dave Chapelle show. Without the make up, he might as well have been Kenny G with that wig. Lol I wasn’t offended at all.  However, that was a decade ago, around the same time as Whitney thing. Today is a very different climate.  While I wouldn’t be offended if my friend portrayed Rick James today, I would definitely question his judgment.

Just wanted to add: many of the black girls took pictures with Whitney, but that also doesn’t mean they nexcearily condoned it or thought it was fun.  It puts them in a weird place because it would seem overly sensitive or inappropriate to give Whitney a lecture about blackface at a Halloween party. So likely they just kept their mouths shut.  Yes, it was ten years ago and yes they may not have had any issues with it but just seeing a picture with everyone posing does not mean they gave their approval.

Yup. I really don't think she'd ever be cut, so she treats it like a game. more concerned she'll get in trouble for lying than the reality of being cut, and who can blame her? kelli reinforces that every single damn time VK gains more weight and doesn't lose it, when she blows off Jinelle, when she's immature, when she's childish, when she's overly familiar with her bosses, when she lies...every damn time, she gets away with it. what else is she supposed to glean from that than that she's bulletproof?

ITA. I think Kelli and Judy's threats hold water with her for all of a few minutes and once the tears wear off, she is back to being her old doofy self. Maybe VK really does not think they are being serious and figures TK will try to fix matters behind the scenes. The only thing keeping her in is her dancing. Other than being told earlier on she did not deliver that particular night, she is doing well and holding her own in only that respect.

Watching the triangle was SO interesting and visually appealing. It was neat to see everyone so in sync with one another. It was also interesting to see how Judy was breaking it down into 8 counts when doing the "domino" fall.

Victoria has been losing fans after it’s so obvious she should have been cut. I’ve said a few times that the season makes Kelli look weak and verging on incompetence as a director. That’s made me not like the season, because I liked to see Kelli and Judy as women managing a team. It was one of my favorite aspects of the show.

There is a definite level of efficiency seen in earlier seasons that S. #13 lacks. I feel like problems and issues are not being addressed early enough. The fact that Taylor got cut and VK did not is irksome. How Taylor's not-so-great interview got her cut, yet VK's ignorance of Jinelle and disrespect kept her on one more night befuddles me. VK did not do well on her news style interview, either. At least Taylor was quick to apologize. She should have been given credit for that. VK did not apologize until it suddenly occurred to her.

At this point, even if Kelli and Judy defend their actions (they do not have to explain to anyone), their credibility in my eyes is shot.

No worries! I think it’s smart business practice to focus on potential outcomes rather than “right or wrong.” Imagine the potential fallout from Taylor, as a DCC, not knowing about #metoo. Kelli was smart to avoid that.

I still feel that Kelli could have turned this into a learning experience for Taylor, as well as, the whole squad.  Why not have a seminar and talk about #metoo, the NFL/Cheerleader lawsuits, etc.  What if a DCC is on an appearance and God forbid, someone said something, did something?  How do they want the girls to handle it?  What will the DC organization do for the girls?  Talk about the lawsuits - are there going to be changes in anything?  Reassure the squad that they have their back.

Also, at the beginning of TC, why can't they give the rookies a list of 10 of the top news stories and tell them that at some point, they will be interviewed on these topics.  Why are these important?  How do they affect the DC organization?

Kelli has become more stubborn about hanging on to girls who aren't great dancers, but that she feels she can turn into a dancer.  You have Malena who may never catch on and she is still there.  Then you have Taylor, who has everything, but blew her interview, which would hopefully never happen again if she were to have a mentor.  We have VK who keeps getting pulled into the office about issues, but then we have gals cut who have never been pulled in.  And these gals show respect despite how they were treated.  And what if VK had never apologized?

VK apologized to Jinelle as a complete afterthought, which, to me, just shows me she did not find apologizing to be a priority. VK knew what she did by blowing off Jinelle and was not going to be mature enough to bring the subject up first.

Well, I think a Dallas Cowboys football player would face big consequences from Jerry Jones if he kneeled during the anthem... That the kneeling would be looked at as a bigger deal to the team than behavior that’s actually illegal speaks volumes IMO.

that he knealt with the players before the anthem (once) was such a PR driven stunt it was painful. appeased the masses, made it look like he gave a crap, and signalled to the players 'this is all you get to do, any more and your ass is mine'.

Because the top ten news stories at the beginning of camp will be vastly different at the end of the season, or even the end of camp. I imagine their schedule during camp is chock-full of activities and practices, and they probably don’t want to take additional time to spoon-feed these ladies knowledge about current events that can be obtained on their own time. TPTB make it VERY clear from tryouts that knowledge of current events is expected. It’s up to the ladies not to get caught with their pants down.

Why doesn't K&J cut a veteran?  There are so many good rookies. I have a suggetion, cut Kelli.  I seriously don't understand how she made the team when she looks like a Vegas hooker. K&J accused Brandy of looking like one but no,  this dime store doll gets a pass.  Future 20 year veteran of the porn industry. Yuck.

I’m not trying to get too far off topic, but this is information. The thing with the players kneeling was addressed a bit on the Amazon original show about the cowboys called all or nothing. It’s from 2017 I think.

The cheerleaders were also shown a bit as were Kelli and Charlotte is shown in several key roles. They go to the grandson kids  high school football game too.

True, but we are so focused on the forest here (specific news items) that we are missing the trees (actual media training).

Media training is a specific skill, (which I don’t expect early 20 somethings that spend their lives mastering dance to have), which would easily teach these women how to answer a question you don’t know, aren’t sure of, or is controversial. DC org shouldn’t want to spoon feed answers to them (although, part of media training is to help identify what the corporate line is), but actual media training would help these women that just are causfht flat footed and don’t know how to respond. I think when you have 21 (??) strong TCCs, you can afford to cut one for not having that skill innately (some of them definitely do possess the ability to answer or avoid a question and be cute and charming), but it can definitely be taught if they wanted to.

There are certainly veterans who aren't performing as well as the rookies this year.

I don't think that's their goal. I do, however, think they encourage them to be vague about or skirt around answers to questions that don't align with the Dallas Cowboys brand.

I really think someone on the other side of the door (maybe the lady who calls them into the office) told her to go back and apologize to Jinelle. I don't think it was anywhere on Victoria's radar that an apology was necessary or would look good.

Not knowing Me too is ridiculous.  Just ridiculous!  You can get so much news on your phone.  Then Taylor had one rough practice on sequencing and she was gone.  I would have cut her the first time.

VK "No words." Here is a smart girl (she graduated high school with college credits) but comes across as vapid.  Even if she gushed endlessly on wanting to be just like her mother and its her lifelong dream that would be better than "No words"  VK should have been cut over the 11 pound weight gain.  I am not sure what Kelli saw in the uniform fitting because I saw a tummy that on any  other TCC candidate or vet, they would have been in the office and cut or sent off to some diet program.  VK knew her weight could be an issue and if you have to keep weighing in, you know.  She is too immature to be on any public appearance.  VK's shabby treatment of Jinelle and then that half ass apology reminds me of Chelsea.  Call her back to the office and just say we're done.

Agreed. They already do media training though, as this episode showed us. The ladies should have already done their homework before the training so they can spend that time focused on being their best during media events. I’m sure Taylor knew about the training in advance, but showed up without looking at anything beyond her friends’ Instagrams. That was worthy of her release, as opposed to the ones that simply needed more polish on their answers (and didn’t get cut).

Can anyone tell me where Brennan was in the point? I tried to look for her but couldn't find her. I really like her and was so disappointed she got cut last year. About her eyes-she was criticized on photo day last year about her gaze being "off" when her chin was down so they told her to lift her chin. It almost looks like she has a lazy eye or some kind of pathology that makes her eyes seem a little cross eyed.

This isn’t media training, they finally renamed his a “media simulation”.  media training is a real thing that you can hire experts to conduct and teach you how to answer susinctly (is: no “no words”), how to stay calm, and how to redirect a question so you answer only what you want to answer.

If anyone other TCC had appeared as airheaded and unable to communicate as Victoria ("there are no words!"), there is NO WAY that Kelli's notes would have been "We need to get words and help you with your stories." She flat out said that she wouldn't put a camera or a microphone near Victoria after that terrible interview which would be grounds for cutting anyone else. That wasn't "rough around the edges" as Kelli described it. That was just BAD.

Ha, I knew that Kelli would love Brianna after she said that the NFL doesn't have more injuries these days (which is bull but the bull that the NFL is going to keep spouting). Kelli's interpretation of what Amber said about flag football was a bit much. Amber did not say that concussions in flag football are funny. She said that a flag football team would be fun. I get the connection (that a flag football team would reduce the amount of concussions) but still.

Taylor T. did not come off well during media training. I understand that sometimes your word choices on the spot are not ideal or you just totally brain fart and freeze. That's understandable. But she doesn't have the ability to cover it up well. She was like a deer in headlights when she was asked about the metoo movement. It's similar to dance performance. EVERY dancer has made a mistake in front of an audience at some point. What matters is if you can keep going. If you completely stop moving or get a panicked look on your face, that's a huge problem. But good performers can recover quickly, keeping their facial expression the same, not breaking character, and jumping right back into the choreography. Very good performers continue so seamlessly that you won't even notice that they made a mistake. The best performers recover so well that they can convince you that 35 other girls all made the same mistake simultaneously and she was the only one doing the right choreography!

To be fair, I thought that the open-ended way that the question was asked ("Do you think that the #metoo movement is something that the DCC should take on?") could have made it awkward to answer without sounding too pageanty. But GIRL, your sole source of news should not be Instagram. You have access to the internet so just go to a website and read the headlines for starters.

Victoria's excuses when she got called into Kelli's office were so bad. If she truly thought that Jinelle wasn't the right person to help her because Jinelle is naturally thin, then she should have opened her mouth and said so beforehand. Instead, she just ignored Jinelle's texts and didn't go to the doctor/nutritionist appointment. So immature and irresponsible. "I don't like the situation I'm in so I'm sensitive to it"? If anyone else had been disrespectful enough to ignore the resources that they had offered a TCC, Kelli wouldn't have said, "You need to develop who is Victoria and what's meaningful to you." It would have been "Tonight is your last night." Kelli is still trying to spin things to make it sound like Victoria should make the team. Ignoring someone's texts is not "a disconnect." It's rude and unprofessional.

I found it offensive that Kelli said Taylor T. would not be a good ambassador because she can't communicate but her assessment of Victoria is that she just needs to find her words. A side by side comparison of Taylor T. and Victoria: Victoria has a weight issue. Taylor does not. Kelli called out Taylor as her showstopper on the field last week. Victoria was not. Victoria has been called into the office FOUR times (in seven weeks of training camp) for various issues. I don't recall if Taylor was called in before this week, but even if she has been, she definitely hasn't been called in four times. If someone should have been cut between Victoria and Taylor, it should have been Victoria, not Taylor.

I think  Kelli is one of the sweetest DCC, seems pretty honest and gennuine. I find her lash extensions or false lashes very poor for her eye size and shape, making her eyes appear much smaller than they are, and they're already quite small, which ages her a lot but I tink she's super cute and has a great smile

What really gets me about Taylor not knowing about #metoo is that even if you aren't the kind of person who reads the Washington Post or the New York Times online, it has been ALL OVER the media for almost a year now. I've seen it pop up all over even the most frothy websites that are not known for politics. It's come up in the Project Runway forum because Harvey Weinstein was a producer of the show and the future of the show was in question. It was covered in articles about who wore what at various awards shows because of actresses wearing black dresses in solidarity (Golden Globes and BAFTAs) and bringing activists as their plus ones. The ESPY awards (which is all sports related) had 141 of Larry Nassar's abuse victims appear onstage together to accept this year's courage award which included a 10 minute speech by several of them including Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman (and this was preceded by a 9 minute video presentation about the women). In other words, even if you're getting your news from sources that are usually fluffy or not usually politically inclined, you must have seen SOMETHING about #metoo recently.

But I do respect that Taylor KNEW why she was being called into the office and she addressed the fact that she bombed the media exercise and apologized. That showed a lot more thought, preparation, and maturity than when Victoria just came into the office acting like she had no idea why she had been called in.

I understood why Brennan’s eyes look the way they do when I saw a picture of her with her parents (there was one posted here from her Instagram from Meet the Team night I believe), her father has the same eye issue, but his is even worse. They have kind of close set eyes that gives an intense stare.

Yeah that sounds like something I'd do. Ace math and science, struggle with English and history. Doesn't help that most of my family is not native English speakers.

But Taylor does not deserve being dragged through mud when she has already been cut. It's over and done. leave her alone.

I feel really bad for Taylor T. and that article - yeah, I don’t think I’d want anyone that I care about trying out for DCC anymore after watching what they did to Keyra and Taylor T. this season - that stuff can hurt them professionally in real careers - it’s the kind of reputation damage that goes beyond a cheerleading team.

That’s a tiny bit of what the  news story would have been if it was a real interview. That’s why I don’t think she will ever make the team. Honestly, I think it’s fair game.  It was shown on a tv show and seems to be a fair edit of what happened. I’m surprised it didn’t blow up more. Maybe it will now.

Taylor T. just got DRAGGED. Did she deserve to be corrected? Yes. I just think this is too much:

https://www.dallasobserver.com/arts/a-woman-on-dallas-cowboys-cheerleaders-making-the-team-didnt-know-about-the-metoo-movement-11240189

I didn't think she got dragged. The article just said what everyone here has been saying repeatedly. There was really only one paragraph that addressed Taylor directly.

I'll note this, though: The show likes to poke fun at girls who give stupid answers in interviews, especially in the initial rounds. I think the producers and the DCC think it shows that the girls who actually make the squad are the smart ones. I think in some ways it does just the opposite and just gives credence to the stereotype that cheerleaders aren't bright. I wish they'd dump those scenes.

Yeah, how was she dragged? The bulk of the article simply summarized what occurred. I was expecting her to be called stupid in every way possible based on the description of her being “dragged.” However, I didn’t see that. Was the article necessary? No. However, that’s the risk with reality tv. It’s not like they took a private conversation and blasted it in an interview. This aired on CMT...

So, I actually do media training as part of my real life job, and I think it's really unfair to take young women who have never had practice doing this kind of thing, toss them in front of a camera and see what happens, without any kind of REAL training before hand.  If nothing else, you "ambush" them, then do actual training and let them try it again.  But we don't put anyone (and I work for high-ranking military officers) in front of a camera who hasn't gotten some tips and some practice on how to deliver you messages, how to handle questions that are outside the scope of the interview, how to deflect and other strategies that will make your organization look good!

It's fun to see them flounder and make funny comments but it would be so much more valuable to teach them something FIRST.

I think you’re right but they don’t want to do that. They are looking for reasons to cut girls. This gives Kelli options of who to cut.

And Malena just made it that much harder for Kelli because she seemed to ace the media portion.  Now of course she should have been cut due to not getting the dances, but since she’s still there, this just made it harder for Kelli.

I think it's going to make it harder for Judy, cause now Kelli can use that as another excuse to keep her

What really gets me about Taylor not knowing about #metoo is that even if you aren't the kind of person who reads the Washington Post or the New York Times online, it has been ALL OVER the media for almost a year now.

It's even discussed on Instagram...the place where she gets her news!

This isn’t media training, they finally renamed his a “media simulation”.  media training is a real thing that you can hire experts to conduct and teach you how to answer susinctly (is: no “no words”), how to stay calm, and how to redirect a question so you answer only what you want to answer.

I’m willing to bet that this particular segment was made-for-TV drama and there are other media training activities we don’t see. Another reason why this show has disappointed me more each year. The drama just isn’t for me.

She keeps dressing like a 12 year old. At least she got rid of the Pocahontas earrings.

I'm just over her.  I never cared for her when she made DCC, I never watched The Bachelor or whatever show she was on to earn her 15 minutes of fame, and she didn't deserve the DWTS trophy ball...they just didn't want to award it to Shawn Johnson again.  There was never a time when she (Mentor Mel) outdanced Shawn.
